EtherFi Migrates To OP Mainnet

EtherFi, the leading liquid restaking protocol, completed its migration from Scroll to OP Mainnet, bringing more than 70,000 active cards, 300,000 accounts, and $220 million in total value locked to the optimistic rollup. The team said it chose OP Mainnet for its low transaction fees, sub-250ms finality via Flashblocks, 99.99% uptime, and throughput exceeding 20 million gas per second. The EtherFi card allows users spend or borrow against their restaking balances. It combines a self-custody mobile wallet with a Visa credit card, allowing users to either borrow USDC using their assets as collateral or convert those assets into USDC for everyday spending.

Trent Van Epps Departs Ethereum Foundation

Ethereum developer Trent Van Epps announced that he left the Ethereum Foundation last Friday. He will continue his involvement with Protocol Guild, an initiative he founded to fund Ethereum’s core protocol development. Protocol Guild is designed to support the long-term sustainability and integrity of the network by maintaining neutrality and preventing any single team from exerting undue influence over development. During his five years at the Foundation, Trent led Protocol Support, coordinated protocol efforts, managed Protocol Guild funding, and supported Ethereum upgrades.

Rainbow Launches RNBW Staking

Rainbow, an Ethereum wallet available on mobile and browser, launched staking for its native $RNBW token. By staking, users can earn a share of the wallet’s swap fees, automatically distributed as staked RNBW tokens. There is no lockup period, allowing users to unstake at any time. Top-tier stakers can receive up to 100% of their swap fees back in staked RNBW.

$1m Ethereum Audit Subsidy

The Ethereum Foundation, Chainlink Labs, and Nethermind launched the Ethereum Security Subsidy Program, a joint initiative providing $1 million in audit subsidies for Ethereum builders. The program aims to make high-quality smart contract audits more accessible, helping strengthen security in the Ethereum ecosystem. Builders can now apply for subsidies covering up to 30% of audit costs through the Areta marketplace, with access to over 20 leading audit providers. Applications are reviewed monthly by an Expert Committee based on criteria such as technical quality, ecosystem impact, and alignment with Ethereum’s core principles.

Polygon Launches sPOL LST

Polygon Labs launched its native liquid staking token, sPOL, enabling POL stakers to unlock liquidity while continuing to earn rewards. With over 3.6 billion POL currently staked on the Polygon PoS network, sPOL allows users to participate in DeFi, in liquidity provision, or as collateral, without unstaking. sPOL is a value-accruing ERC-20 token that starts at a 1:1 ratio with POL and increases in value over time as staking rewards accumulate.  Built and audited by Polygon Labs, sPOL launched with up to 100 million POL in liquidity support. The launch aims to make POL staking more efficient and attractive to Polygon users.

CoW Swap Suffers DNS Hijack

MEV-protecting DEX aggregator CoW Swap suffered a DNS hijacking at 14:54 UTC on Tuesday, affecting the front end of its cow.fi website. Users are advised to avoid the website and revoke any token approvals. An attacker took control of the domain’s nameservers, redirecting traffic to a malicious site that prompted users to approve transactions to a malicious contract. The affected domain has since been locked and taken offline, with recovery efforts underway. To keep the protocol accessible, the team has launched a temporary alternative on cow.finance, though users are urged to remain highly cautious. Frax Finance CEO Sam Kazemian recommended that crypto projects consider using MarkMonitor for DNS management to prevent hijacks

Lattice Shuts Down Redstone L2

Lattice, the gaming studio behind the Redstone L2 network built on the OP Stack, announced it is shutting down. Its blockchain infrastructure will go offline on May 15, 2026, and users are advised to withdraw funds beforehand, as assets in smart contracts will become unrecoverable after the shutdown. The company cited financial sustainability as the reason for the wind-down. Lattice is open-sourcing its core tools, including its MUD framework for building onchain games.

SEC Guidance On DeFi Front Ends

The SEC published a staff statement clarifying that certain crypto front-end interfaces do not need to register as broker-dealers under the Securities Exchange Act. The staff says it will not object to DeFi providers operating without registration if they function strictly as neutral tools rather than intermediaries. The guidance applies to “covered user interface” providers that do not offer advice, do not handle user funds or execute transactions, and present market data and routing options based on objective, pre-disclosed criteria. Front-end fees must also be fixed and paid solely by the user. The guidance is also temporary, set to expire in April 2031.

Scroll To Dissolve Security Council

Scroll, an EVM-equivalent ZK rollup, proposed dissolving its 12-member Security Council and shifting protocol control to a Scroll Admin multisig. Notably, the team aims to make the change within 10 days. According to L2Beat researcher donnoh.eth, the change would downgrade the network from Stage 1 to Stage 0 decentralization. Scroll cited high operational costs as the main reason, aiming to streamline governance and redirect resources toward product growth. Scroll is also cutting several DAO contributor roles, including marketing, program coordination, and accountability positions. The proposal comes amid the recent departure of EtherFi to OP Mainnet.

Dappnode Reduces Smooth Pool Fee

Dappnode reduced the fee for Smooth, its MEV smoothing pool for solo Ethereum stakers, from 7% to 5%. Smooth enables stakers to pool and share execution layer rewards, like MEV and block rewards, smoothing out the typically uneven payouts and improving overall returns. TheDAO Fund also committed 69,420 ETH to the pool, helping deliver consistent rewards for solo stakers. Despite a decline in MEV opportunities, Smooth still outperformed solo staking by ~78% over the past year in terms of execution rewards.

Bitmine Holds 4% Of ETH Supply

Bitmine Immersion Technologies Inc. digital asset treasury now holds 4% of the total Ethereum supply. The 4,874,858 ETH holdings are valued at over $11.4 billion. BitMine continues its accumulation strategy, progressing toward its long-term goal of owning 5% of the total ETH supply, roughly 6 million ETH. Corporate treasuries collectively hold more ETH than Ether ETFs.

Scroll Overcharges Users By $50k

Scroll, an EVM-equivalent ZK rollup, manually increased its fee scalars by up to 1,280x, leading to significant overcharging its users for transaction fees. According to L2BEAT, it resulted in over $50,000 in excess fees charged. The scalars control how much users pay for L1 data, but fees were far higher than the underlying costs. Engineers from Succinct reported paying over $20 per transaction on the L2 network. The inflated fees coincided with ether.fi migrating its credit card infrastructure from Scroll to OP Mainnet. Although Scroll later reduced the scalars by 160x, fees still remain about 8x above baseline without a clear reason and no response from the Scroll team.

WLFI Borrowing Strains Dolomite Liquidity

World Liberty Financial, an Ethereum-based DeFi platform by Donald Trump, deposited 5 billion WLFI tokens from its treasury as collateral to borrow $75 million, comprising $65 million in USD1 and $10 million in USDC, via the Dolomite lending protocol on Ethereum mainnet. Notably, Dolomite co-founder Corey Caplan is an adviser to World Liberty Financial, raising conflict-of-interest concerns. The large collateral deposits have driven utilization rates on Dolomite to peak levels, leaving many stablecoin depositors unable to withdraw their assets. Utilization has exceeded 80% in the USD1 pool and 90% in the USDC pool. Since WLFI has thin liquidity, a potential liquidation could result in bad debt for Dolomite and losses for regular depositors. World Liberty Financial has already transferred $40 million to Coinbase Prime, likely for off-ramping.

Redirecting Staking Rewards To Builders

Ethereum Foundation public goods researcher Devansh Mehta proposed an in-protocol mechanism to redirect a portion of Ethereum staking rewards toward funding developer teams that improve the operator experience. The aim is to trade slightly lower validator yields for a stronger ecosystem and higher long-term ETH value. The proposal would be introduced in a hard fork and coordinated through the Ethereum Validators Association. Validators would signal their gas capacity, the share of rewards they’re willing to redirect, and their preferred funding recipients. If a majority supports a redirect, the same contribution would be applied across all validators.

Zerion Temporarily Disables Web App

Zerion, a leading portfolio tracker and wallet provider, is advising users to temporarily avoid its web app while it investigates suspicious activity. As a precaution, it has taken the web app offline and blocked access using Blockaid to mitigate risk. Zerion confirmed that user funds remain safe, with only the web app affected. The iOS and Android apps, as well as the browser extension, continue to operate securely. Zerion later stated the attack is contained.

Polygon Onchain FX Markets

Polygon Labs, Frax, Curve Finance, and DFB have launched onchain foreign exchange (FX) liquidity pools on the Polygon PoS network, enabling fast, low-cost currency swaps. The pools use the frxUSD dollar-pegged stablecoin as the base asset. Initial pairs include the BRZ (Brazilian real), IDRX (Indonesian rupiah), tGBP (British pound), AUDF (Australian dollar), and KRWQ (Korean won). Curve Finance provides the trading infrastructure through its FXSwap pools, designed for low slippage and tight spreads, while DFB handles liquidity and market-making for non-USD stablecoin pairs. Together, the system enables near-instant settlement, lower fees, and transparent pricing, bringing FX markets onchain.

Linea Improves Prover Speed

Linea, the EVM-equivalent ZK rollup developed by Consensys, improved the speed and efficiency of its proving system. The improvement comes from a redesign of its core architecture, replacing 252-bit “large fields” with much smaller 31-bit fields, which dramatically lowers computation costs. Although the Ethereum Virtual Machine operates on 256-bit numbers, Linea splits them into smaller chunks and processes them in parallel, taking advantage of modern CPUs that are optimized for efficient 32-bit operations. Linea also introduced zkASM, a flexible constraint-writing system that works across different field sizes, avoiding the need for a full rewrite of existing logic. Together, the improvements make proofs faster, cheaper, and more efficient, enabling faster withdrawals and better liquidity, lowering hardware requirements for developers, and reducing transaction fees for users.

Etherscan Redesigns Contract Interface

Etherscan released a revamped smart contract tab on its block explorer, making it easier to explore and interact with contracts. The update introduces a full IDE-style code browser, letting developers navigate using a file tree, jump between functions with a contract outline, open multiple files in tabs, and search across all contract files. It also features improved Read/Write tabs with a cleaner interface for understanding and interacting with contract functions.

Reth 2.0 Release

Paradigm released Reth 2.0, the latest version of its Ethereum execution node written in Rust, delivering 1.7 Ggas/s throughput on large blocks and a major storage reduction to around 240 GB for mainnet nodes. The release introduces an upgraded snapshot system, allowing users to download only the data they need. Architecture improvements in the release include parallel state calculation, with the Sparse Trie Cache enabling in-memory persistence across blocks and eliminating the state root as a bottleneck. The parallel execution is enabled through Ethereum Block Access Lists (BALs). 

Polygon Activates Giugliano Upgrade

Polygon activated the Giugliano upgrade on its PoS network, delivering faster transaction finality, more predictable and transparent fees, and improved overall performance. Confirmation times have dropped to around 5 seconds, down from roughly 7 seconds. Gas fee parameters are now embedded directly in block headers, making it easier to estimate transaction costs. The upgrade also introduces enhancements such as improved block propagation, restored snap sync, and stronger Heimdall failover support. Giugliano is part of a series of recent upgrades pushing Polygon closer to its Gigagas goal, as it continues evolving into a platform optimized for payments.

Coinbase Developer Platform CLI

Coinbase launched the Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP) CLI, a unified command-line tool for accessing payments, trading, wallets, custody, and onchain workflows. The CLI also doubles as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and agent skill, enabling AI agents to call Coinbase APIs directly without custom code. Block-in-Blobs (BiB) EIP-8142

Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter introduced Block-in-Blobs (BiB) EIP-8142, which proposes to encode transaction data into blobs, similar to EIP-4844, so validators don’t need to download every transaction. BiB makes data availability explicit and efficient, rather than implicit. While zkEVM removes the need to re-execute, it does not eliminate the need to access transaction data. BiB packs RLP-encoded transaction bytes into blobs with cryptographic commitments, allowing validators to then verify the commitments and use data availability sampling (DAS) to ensure all data is available, maintaining full security, drastically reducing bandwidth requirements, and scaling Ethereum L1.

Biconomy Introduces ERC-8211

Biconomy, a cross-chain execution protocol, has introduced Smart Batching ERC-8211, a proposed Ethereum standard that transforms transactions into dynamic, multi-step programs. It enables onchain agents and users to execute complex workflows with a single signature, without deploying custom contracts. The standard addresses the limitations of current static batching, where parameters are fixed at signing and can become outdated. Instead of hardcoding values, smart batches fetch real-time onchain data, validate it against constraints, and execute only when predefined conditions are met. ERC-8211 enables fully composable, cross-protocol and cross-chain workflows, reduces failed transactions and leftover balances, and provides a shared execution standard for autonomous onchain agents.

KPK Launches A Web App 

KPK, a DAO treasury manager, launched the KPK App, a web interface for tracking and allocating assets across KPK yield strategies. The app features live performance data across all strategies, risk tiers tailored to different user profiles, and unified position tracking across both Vaults and Funds. KPK currently offers two vault types. Prime Vaults are designed for capital preservation and high liquidity, relying on established collateral like ETH and strict risk controls. Yield Vaults, by contrast, target higher returns through broader collateral exposure and active rebalancing, often focused on stable assets. KPK, originally incubated by Gnosis in 2021, manages treasuries for organizations such as ENS DAO.

Privy Enables Swaps Via Uniswap

Privy, an embedded wallet infrastructure provider, integrated swaps powered by Uniswap, allowing developers to support conversions between assets with a single API call. Privy abstracts away the complexity of routing, calldata, slippage, and transaction execution, while leveraging the Uniswap API for liquidity. Privy enables apps to embed crypto wallets using familiar Web2 login methods such as SMS, email, Google, X, and Farcaster.

Polymarket USD Stablecoin 

Polymarket announced a major infrastructure upgrade rolling out over the next few weeks that will replace bridged USDC.e with a new native collateral token, Polymarket USD, backed 1:1 by USDC. The shift transitions Polymarket to have direct control over its settlement layer, reducing reliance on third-party bridges. The upgrade also includes a rebuilt trading engine and new smart contracts designed to improve execution speed, lower gas fees, and streamline the overall system. According to 0xngmi, more than $1.25 billion is currently held in Polymarket user wallets. During the transition, all open orders will be canceled during a short, pre-announced maintenance window. Developers and advanced users will need to make updates.

Ethena Diversifies USDe Backing

Ethena is expanding the collateral backing of its USDe stablecoin to include overcollateralized institutional lending, liquid real-world assets (RWAs) beyond t-bills, commodity basis trades, and prime lending. Previously, USDe’s yield was primarily driven by crypto perpetual futures funding rates. USDe is an overcollateralized, yield-bearing stablecoin, backed by crypto assets and delta-neutral strategies managed by Ethena. The shift aims to create a more resilient, diversified reserve portfolio that can perform across different market conditions, reducing reliance on funding rates alone. Ethena states that the core architecture and redemption mechanism remain unchanged, and all new strategies are conservatively sized and overcollateralized.

Chaos Labs Leaves Aave DAO

Chaos Labs, a risk service provider to the Aave DAO, announced it is stepping down from its role managing risk for the Aave protocol. The departure follows the recent exits of other major contributors, including the Aave Chan Initiative (ACI) and BGD Labs. Chaos Labs said the decision was driven primarily by a disagreement over how risk should be managed, particularly as Aave V4 expands. In response, Stani Kulechov stated that Aave Labs was open to increasing Chaos Labs’ compensation to $5 million, but did not support other aspects of their proposal, which he says included making Chaos Labs the sole risk manager, replacing Chainlink as the default oracle provider, and adopting Chaos Labs’ vaults as the default. Kulechov confirmed that risk management responsibilities will continue without disruption.

Ethereum Tx Delay Tracker

Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter launched txdelay.xyz, a tool that tracks average Ethereum transaction inclusion times. He estimates that the current delay is around 6 seconds, but expects it to increase by ~2 seconds under ePBS (EIP-7732), a feature planned for the upcoming Glamsterdam hardfork. He noted ePBS has a similar effect to increasing slot times to 16 seconds, meaning Ethereum would need ~8-second slots to return to today’s inclusion delay. The tracker uses data from ethPandaOps’ Xatu nodes, comparing when transactions are first seen in the mempool versus when they are included onchain.

Bank of Canada DeFi Lending Report

The Bank of Canada published a report on DeFi lending, focusing on returns, leverage, and liquidation risk, using Aave V3 as a case study. The report found that earnings are concentrated, with a small number of tokens generating most of the profits, while overall returns remain low but stable due to low operating costs and conservative, overcollateralized lending. The report also highlights that about 20% of borrowing activity comes from recursive leverage strategies. Overall, it characterizes DeFi lending as transparent, automated, and cost-efficient, with risk managed through strict collateral requirements and liquidation mechanisms. The report concludes that lending without traditional intermediaries is technically and operationally viable.

Ethereum Foundation Stakes 47,050 ETH

The Ethereum Foundation executed an additional staking deposit of 23,000 ETH from its treasury to the Ethereum Beacon chain as part of its broader goal of staking 70,000 ETH. The addition brings the foundation’s current total staked ETH to 47,050 ETH. The staking rewards flow back to the foundation treasury to support Ethereum ecosystem initiatives. The foundation is using minority clients, multiple Beacon and Execution client pairings, and a mix of hosted and self-managed infrastructure across jurisdictions.

Safenet Beta Launch

Safe launched Safenet Beta, a decentralized transaction security network designed to protect Safe account activity by enforcing security checks before transactions are executed. Safenet works through a network of validators that evaluate proposed transactions against predefined security rules. If a transaction passes, validators issue onchain attestations, which are verified before execution. Transactions that fail the checks are blocked unless users explicitly override them. The system replaces centralized warning tools with protocol-level security enforcement. The beta launch includes six initial validators, such as Gnosis, Safe Labs, and Blockchain Capital, along with features like basic attack protection, a staking interface, and a public attestation explorer. The launch also evolves the SAFE token into a network security asset, allowing validators and delegators to stake SAFE and earn rewards.

x402 Foundation Moves Under Linux

Coinbase announced that the x402 Foundation, an initiative to establish the x402 protocol as a universal standard for AI-driven payments, is moving under the Linux Foundation. The shift is intended to ensure vendor-neutral, community-governed oversight of the protocol, with backing from major tech companies including Cloudflare and Stripe. The foundation, established in September 2025, supports x402, an open protocol launched in May 2025 that builds on the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code to enable a native payment layer for the web. It facilitates instant, primarily stablecoin-based transactions, along with deferred settlement capabilities.

OpenCover Introduces Covered Vaults

OpenCover introduced Covered Vaults, a new product for vault-native risk transfer, enabling insurance for vault deposits. It allows users to protect their positions against technical or economic risks by paying a flexible, usage-based premium, without committing to fixed terms. The solution is built on the underwriting infrastructure of Nexus Mutual. Covered Vaults integrates with DeFi protocols like Morpho and Kiln. Users who deposit into existing ERC-4626 vaults can stake their vault shares into Covered Vaults to activate protection. Coverage can be disabled at any time. Initial vaults will be available on Base and OP Mainnet.

Circle Announces cirBTC

Circle unveiled cirBTC, its own version of wrapped Bitcoin backed 1:1 by BTC. The token will initially launch on Ethereum and Circle’s Layer-1 blockchain Arc, with plans for multichain support in the future. Circle says cirBTC will be integrated with USDC and Circle Payments. The launch rivals with Coinbase, which introduced its wrapped Bitcoin, cbBTC, in 2024. Skepticism remains around centralized wrapped tokens due to potential censorship risks, as highlighted by USDC, which can be frozen at any time.

Franklin Crypto Division Introduced

Franklin Templeton introduced Franklin Crypto, a new division dedicated to institutional-grade digital asset investment management. The firm is also acquiring crypto investment company 250 Digital to strengthen its capabilities in the space. Part of the deal will be executed using BENJI tokens tied to the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund (FOBXX). The move underscores Franklin Templeton’s effort to become a leading global digital asset manager, building on its existing $1.8 billion crypto platform and its broader management of over $1.5 trillion in assets.

L2BEAT Adds Aztec As Stage 1 Rollup

L2BEAT added Aztec Alpha Network to its L2 tracker as a Stage 1 rollup, noting that its decentralization and censorship resistance more closely resemble Stage 2. Aztec has immutable core contracts, a built-in exit window for users, a permissionless sequencer system, and no security council. In a Stage 1 rollup, only a security council can intervene, whereas a Stage 2 rollup is fully trustless, and no one can interfere with the system. L2BEAT said it classified Aztec as Stage 1 because some critical parameters are still controlled by a DAO, and transaction inclusion delays can reach several days in worst-case scenarios.

Base App To Support Web Apps

Base App, the self-custody wallet from Coinbase, announced that it will support all standard web apps in an upcoming release scheduled for April 9, 2026.  Farcaster mini app developers are advised to register their projects on Base.dev, transition authentication from the Farcaster SDK to Sign-In with Ethereum (SIWE), and review their existing Farcaster SDK integrations for compatibility. The move comes as Base App transitions from an onchain social focus to a trading-first experience.

Aztec Launches Alpha Network

Aztec Network, a privacy-focused Layer 2 on Ethereum, launched its Alpha Network, a fully functional upgrade that brings native privacy to data, identity, and computation. Developers can now build smart contracts and apps where privacy is the default, from execution to settlement. The launch follows nine years of development on a privacy-first architecture. Aztec first rolled out Aztec Ignition in November 2025. While further upgrades are planned before Beta, developers can start building on the network. Aztec also opened sign-ups for a smart contract course.

Quantum Breakthrough Threatens Crypto

Justin Drake highlighted two new research papers that show quantum improvements that make future quantum attacks on modern cryptography, such as the elliptic curve signatures used by Ethereum, more plausible. Drake emphasized that the breakthroughs suggest that private keys for 256-bit elliptic curves, such as secp256k1, could be recovered in minutes on quantum computers. The technical details from Google Quantum AI's paper were sensitive enough that they were released using a zero-knowledge proof generated by Succinct’s SP1 zkVM. He estimates there is roughly a 10% chance that quantum computers could break real cryptographic keys by 2032. Drake underscored the growing urgency around post-quantum cryptography. Ethereum is already working on a coordinated, multi-year transition toward quantum resistance, with phased upgrades across protocol layers.

Fe 26.0 Overhaul Release

Fe released version 26.0, a complete overhaul of its smart contract programming language, introducing a stronger type system and improved safety model. The update adds a new effect system that requires functions to explicitly declare side effects, such as storage access or external calls. It also adopts immutability by default. The relaunch includes a redesigned contract architecture, giving developers more precise control over EVM behavior and low-level operations. It also introduces a new compiler backend built on SSA. Fe combines Python-like syntax with a Rust-inspired design, featuring generics, traits, algebraic data types, and a simplified ownership and borrowing model. Fe version 26.0 is still experimental and not yet ready for production use.
