Doodles

We’ve always been huge fans of Doodles. The creativity, innovation, and camaraderie in this community never cease to amaze us, and we're thrilled to have celebrated together at their event. Not only did we have the opportunity to meet and connect with various individuals from the Doodles community, but we also forged strong bonds with several members of their talented team.

Our excitement for the future of Doodles and its community is only growing stronger. We believe that these tight-knit relationships we've developed are the foundation of success in the NFT space. MonkeDAO

On Wednesday, April 12th, we had an unforgettable time at Ainslie Bowery for the MonkeDAO & MetaPlex's MonkePlex event. The mantra "Reject humanity, return to Monke!" captured the essence of the gathering perfectly, as we immersed ourselves in the playful and creative world of MonkeDAO.

🚨 Recent update on MonkeDAO and its acquisition of Solana Monkey Business:

The Solana Monkey Business (SMB) project, known for its pixelated monkey NFTs, has seen its intellectual property (IP) acquired by MonkeDAO for $2 million after a community vote. Previously, the SMB project's founders had sold it to Hadeswap, but the decentralized trading protocol decided to transfer the IP to MonkeDAO. This acquisition grants MonkeDAO the rights, assets, accounts, and keys associated with SMB, in exchange for 2 million USDC, as well as legal registrations, website code, and social media accounts. Experts believe that this move may lead to increased NFT market activity, contribute to the project's decentralization, and intensify competition among NFT projects, ultimately driving innovation and creativity in the industry.

Pudgy Penguins

The Pudgy Penguins event at NFT NYC was a total blast! We all got together to have a good time and make new connections. Chilling in the VIP area, we could see the excitement and energy buzzing all around. The Pudgy claw machine was the star of the show, stealing everyone's hearts. It was an awesome night for the community to hang out, share their love for the cute Pudgy Penguins, and make lasting memories.

Shell Orbz x Nakamigos

One thing we learned is that Nakamigos isn’t only trending online…

We flocked to the IRL Shell Orbz and Nakamigos event at Hotel Chantelle, and when we arrived the atmosphere was already buzzing with chatter and excitement. The party went on until the early hours of the morning, bringing together a diverse crowd of artists, musicians, project members and more.

Big Apple Apes’ BAYC: A BORING EVENT

We had an absolute blast at the hottest event, "A BORING EVENT," hosted by @BigAppleApes at Den Social! As proud sponsors of the event, it was incredible to meet and party will fellow apes! The energy in the room was electric, as the community came together to celebrate and connect with one another. The night was filled with lively conversations, new friendships, and unforgettable moments that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the BAYC community.

Connecting with On1 Force & Azra Games

Attending IRL events is always a reminder of why we absolutely love them – they create amazing opportunities to connect with diverse projects & communities that truly embody the spirit of web3. We had a fantastic time interacting with the folks from 0n1Force, Azra Games, The Wanderverse, and The Fracture communities! Each of these projects showcased their unique contributions to the web3 space, and it was an incredible experience to learn from and connect with such talented individuals.

Claynosaurz

And of course… we couldn’t miss the Claynosaurz event.

What an insane vibe we experienced at the Claynosaurz, Solana Mobile, and Hyperspace event! The atmosphere was definitely filled with excitement and enthusiasm as we connected with amazing team and community members.

We had an absolute blast, sharing ideas and learning from one another. These kinds of events truly showcase the vibrant and dynamic nature of the not just the NFT community, but the Solana ecosystem.

🚨 Solana’s price has made an epic bullish comeback in the past few days, just as the whole crypto market is heating up again. SOL is (at the time of writing) currently $24.93, its highest since March 23, soaring over 30% from its lowest point in March.

Crypto Tech Women

Crypto Tech Women certainly brought the heat at their rooftop event! The open bar kept everyone's spirits high. A huge shoutout to the amazing people we met at this event for the amazing energy they brought to the party!

We’re more than happy to see more women joining the web3 space! It's a great sign that the industry is becoming more diverse and inclusive. And let's not forget the awesome energy that these talented women bring to the table.

The power of DeGods

Frank DeGods Birthday Pizza Party

Despite our busy schedule running around New York City, we made sure to attend Frank DeGods' birthday pizza party, and we were so glad we did. The event was packed with incredible people from the DeGodsNFT and y00tsNFT community, and it was thrilling to see so many NFT enthusiasts gathered in one place. To top it off, the pizza from Joe's Pizza was absolutely delicious, making for a perfect evening filled with good food and great company.

Speaking of DeGods…

The strength and passion of the DeGods community was undeniable at NFT NYC. As we mingled with builders and enthusiasts, we were continually impressed by the innovative ideas and exciting projects being developed.

The DeGods team made a splash at the NFT NYC meetup by booking an entire floor of a prestigious hotel in the city. The buzz around the event was palpable, and it quickly sold out within a few hours of going live.

We’re extremely grateful for the amazing experience hosted by DeGodsNFT and y00tsNFT at Public Hotels. The experience was a banger, and we couldn't get enough of the incredible vibes.

The ultimate DeGods Basement Party

And to top it off, one of the top events of NFT NYC was DeGods DeNYC Basement Party, held at the stunning Public Hotels Basement to celebrate with the DeGods and y00ts community.

Despite the event being limited to DeGod and y00ts NFT holders only, the line to enter the Basement of the Public Hotel was still long, with attendees eager to join in on the night's festivities. The excitement and energy hit us in the face as we made our way through the door, greeted by a stunning atmosphere filled with beautiful details and great vibes. As promised, drinks were provided, and the music was on point.

It’s events like this that make us grateful to be a part of this vibrant NFT community.

Cryptoadz NFT

We also swung by the Cryptoadz NFT event and had a ribbiting good time! The event was packed with fun, laughs, and great connections with other like-minded individuals.

One of the highlights of the night was meeting and connecting with the wonderful people from NounsDao and Nounish.

Azuki

NFT NYC 2023 showcased the continued growth and bullish outlook of many NFT projects, including Azuki. Attending the Azuki event was a highlight, featuring a two-story venue with a gallery-style first floor and vibrant rooms on the second floor and an outdoor terrace. The event gave us the opportunity to connect with the community and receive some awesome goodies.

We’re super proud of the progress of Azuki and couldn’t be more impressed by their community.

Reflecting on NFT NYC 2023

NFT NYC 2023 was an epic showcase of the latest and greatest in the NFT world. Despite a smaller crowd, the connections we forged and the knowledge we acquired were worth their weight in gold. It was amazing to see the incredible projects, ideas, and people who are driving the NFT space forward. The energy was electric, and we were inspired by the passion, creativity, and sense of community that was on full display.

Events like this one reinforce our passion for the NFT space, bringing together a community of like-minded individuals committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible with Web3. We are a group of NFT lovers who have walked many paths in web2 and beyond — as founders, innovators, designers, and technologists, in VR/AR/XR, in architecture, in cryptography, in “big tech”, and more.

Although we had each been following web3 for a while from afar, our paths converged last year, when we tumbled down the NFT rabbit hole together. Like many of you, we fell head over heels in love with NFTs before we could even figure out what happened.

Now, we find ourselves all in on NFTs, and filled with a simple purpose — not to help web2 “power” the metaverse and collect all the value, but to help NFTs empower the metaverse and keep its value in the hands of the community.

How did we get here?

After taking some time to gather perspective, we wanted to share four things we believe about NFTs that make us incredibly excited for a future filled with them and for the journey that lies ahead of us.

#1 - NFTs Make Decentralization Meaningful for All

“Decentralization” has been one of the key promises of web3. While this unlocked enormous amounts of value with cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based protocols, it has so far meant little in terms of the things we actually create and consume in our everyday lives, even online.

With the proliferation and maturation of NFTs, the web3 revolution is becoming truly meaningful for everyone. To use a somewhat older framework, you might say that NFTs are helping web3 to “cross the chasm” from early adoption into the mainstream.

At its core, decentralization — or more specifically, the decentralized existence and utility of things — is just another feature of the physical world that has finally been brought into the digital world with the magic of technology. It gives things permanence, something we understand even as children.

To put it simply, in the real world, we have every reasonable expectation that when we, say, buy a car and drive it off the lot, it won’t stop working the moment we are no longer on their property. It’s not just the ownership of that car that matters, but the fact that its very existence is defined by the physical world and its utility by the laws of physics that govern it.

Our physical world was the original “decentralized” platform of existence. Once we entered the digital world, however, we made a Faustian bargain (that we weren’t even necessarily aware of) with a few web2 companies so they could provide us things that work online — but only on their property.

With web3 and NFTs in particular, we are merely bringing that basic feature into our digital world. By putting more and more definitions and utility for digital “things” in decentralized places, we are gradually recreating a stable world that doesn’t disappear the moment we step outside.

This is a world we believe serves everyone better.

#2 - NFTs Are Content, and Content is NFTs

If the fungible tokens of web3 revolutionized the way we think about abstract societal infrastructure like our financial systems and data transfer protocols, NFTs are now in the process of revolutionizing the things riding on top of those rails — i.e. content.

One way to think about this is that NFTs are a new digital primitive introduced by web3. As such, we can consider what the existence of this new digital primitive enables (or “affords”) us to do, that we couldn’t do before.

As its name suggests, NFTs (non-fungible tokens) provide a decentralized way to represent and track things that are not exactly alike (i.e. where one instance of that thing is not completely interchangeable with another instance). That is, it makes things distinguishable.

This again pretty much describes how we think about anything in the real world — where almost nothing is perfectly interchangeable with anything else, even within the same class of thing — and is especially how we want to think about things like content.

It’s not just when the original works are different, but we even want to differentiate between instances of a work — this one is mine, this is the original, this was once owned by so-and-so, etc. Distinguishability allows us to imbue things with meaning and context, things that matter to us as individuals.

Web2, on the other hand, didn’t have the ability to distinguish between content, so it had to treat content as fungible, creating copies of it wherever that content went, and treating each copy the same as any other copy, including the original. A big reason why so many people still have difficulty understanding the value of NFTs today is because they haven’t yet unlearned that web2 interpretation of the world.

NFTs are a vastly improved technology to represent things in ways that we as a society want and value — i.e. with permanence, and also distinguishability (which in turn enables ownership and access) — making NFTs the perfect way to represent any and all meaningful digital content in web3.

You might even say that with the advent of web3:

Content == NFTs

All content is NFTs, and all NFTs are content.

#3 - NFTs Will Eat the Metaverse...

Just as the “information technology” revolution hoovered up all things that could be better represented with its digital data primitive, so too will web3 hoover up all things that can be better represented with its new, more nuanced digital primitives. Information can (and will) now quickly become separated into that which is best represented in a fungible way, and that which is not.

As a result, all content online will gradually become NFTs as new creators use them, and people migrate existing things to become them, and we will see the proportion of all content represented by NFTs follow a familiar, steep S-curve.

And so, just as information technology and software helped web2 “eat the world” for the last 10 years, so will NFTs help web3 eat the world for the next 10 years (at least).

Moreover, we currently stand at the once-in-a-generation intersection of two major technology trends — web3 and metaverse — which can actually be thought of as two sides of the same coin.

Whereas web3 is about improved representational technology (i.e. representing a thing’s definition and context in a decentralized way), the metaverse is about improved rendering technology (i.e. presenting that thing back to you).

While there’s a longer thread here (for another time) about what the metaverse “really is”, this means that, regardless, the metaverse will be dominated by content, since that is what we mostly perceive (and want to perceive) in the world.

So by extension, NFTs are not just going to eat the existing world, but also the coming metaverse, which is developing at the same time.

#4 - ...And That’s a Good Thing

Given everything mentioned above, and the general inevitability of it all, it would be pretty scary if everything we cared about got sucked into a state of the world that was terrible for everyone.

Thankfully, we believe that not only are NFTs the future, but, importantly, we believe that NFTs represent a better future, not just any other future.

Taking everything above together, we can at least be sure that when everything comes to be represented by NFTs in web3, we would get back two key features of the real world that we had bargained away, decentralized permanence and distinguishability.

And with the right design mentality, we may still get to keep the best parts of web1 and web2 that we picked up along the way — massive amounts of digital content with rich, user-first experiences.

But best of all, NFTs open up a new model of control in this new world, and how value generated can be distributed amongst its contributors. By starting everything not with the platforms that make existence possible in web2, but with the community that makes the content possible in web3, we turn the power dynamic upside down.

So, as NFTs eat the metaverse, they will strip away the worst parts of web2 — centralized control and value extraction — returning control of content back into the hands of its creators and the community, like “freeing” everything that had been eaten by web2 platforms before and returning it to the people.

And we believe that’s a good thing.
