That wasn't my experience.

My first generative collection, Animated Flow, took weeks of learning, testing, breaking, fixing, and trying again.

I'm not a developer.

Before starting this project, I couldn't have explained how a generative artwork is built, let alone deployed onchain. I simply had an idea I couldn't stop thinking about. I wanted to create a collection of animated geometric compositions that would only come to life when someone minted them. Every collector would receive a unique piece, created at that exact moment.

I knew what I wanted the art to feel like.

I just didn't know how to get there.

So I treated AI the same way I would treat any creative collaborator or teacher.

I asked questions.

I experimented.

I tested ideas.

I broke the code.

I fixed it.

Then I broke it again.

There were countless hours of conversations, revisions, deployments that failed, animations that didn't behave the way I imagined, and plenty of late nights trying to understand why.

Little by little, the project started taking shape.

The more I learned, the better my questions became. The better my questions became, the closer the code came to matching the vision I had in my head.

That, to me, is the exciting part.

AI didn't replace the creative process.

It expanded what I was capable of creating.

Every artistic decision was still mine. The pacing of the animation. The geometric language. The colors. The movement. The countless small adjustments that transformed a technical experiment into something that feels unmistakably like my work.

The tool changed.

The role of the artist didn't.

Introducing Animated Flow

Animated Flow is my first generative art collection.

It consists of 1,977 unique animated pieces, each generated only when it is minted. No pre-rendered images. No two outputs are exactly alike. Every collector becomes part of the creative process by revealing a composition that has never existed before.

The collection is intentionally minimal. Slow movement, clean geometry, and compositions designed to bring a sense of calm whether displayed on a digital frame, a screen, or simply enjoyed onchain.

The mint is live on Base for 0.00069 ETH, about $1.80 USD, because I wanted collecting to be accessible to anyone curious about generative art.

There's another reason this release means so much to me.

Every mint helps me continue building my new studio in Itupeva, Brazil, where I'll keep exploring both physical and digital mediums. In a very real sense, collectors of Animated Flow are helping build the space where future work will be created.

It feels like the beginning of an entirely new chapter in my artistic practice.

The Line occupies a CBD space in Hastings, Hawke's Bay. The gallery features primarily MintFace paintings, and select works from cryptoartists on The Line.

I started showing up daily.

Not to promote, but to connect.

Replying to posts, joining conversations, spending time in Waves… slowly recognizing names, and being recognized back. And I think that’s when things started to click for me: 6529 isn’t really about pushing your work; it’s about being present around others who are doing the same.

Somewhere in the middle of that, my Meme Card kept moving forward.

My Meme Card has now been approved and is going into mint.

It closed the voting phase with:

And that part matters.

Because on 6529, it’s not just about how many people vote - it’s about who is voting. Votes are weighted by TDH (Total Days Held), and in the end, it’s often the maxis - the top meme holders - who really shape what gets through.

So this wasn’t something I expected.

I thought this piece would resonate mostly with artists.

But to my surprise, collectors connected with it too.

Seeing comments like this honestly caught me off guard:

“I think that maxis and artists actually share something deeply in common with artists.”

That stayed with me.

Because maybe the gap between artists and collectors isn’t as big as we sometimes think. Maybe there’s something shared there - conviction, patience, long-term belief… different roles, but similar weight.

An Artist’s Life

This piece began as a concept draft I submitted in September 2024. Shortly after, the voting system launched and I was in the middle of relocating back to Brazil, so I couldn’t give it the attention I wanted at the time, but I never stopped working on it.

It is a tribute to every artist navigating this space while balancing life, expectations, and the reality of survival.

An Artist’s Life - 6529 MEME Card

Over the years in Web3, I’ve seen the same message repeated to artists whenever the market turns difficult:

“Don’t worry about the market. Just focus on your art.”

On the surface, that sounds supportive. But for many artists, it misses a deeper truth.

Artists don’t create in isolation. We create while balancing life.

Bills still arrive.
Families still need us.
Health still matters.
And the time we spend creating is time we are not spending earning somewhere else.

The idea that artists can simply ignore the market assumes that creation happens outside of reality. For most of us, it doesn’t.

The truth is simpler and more human: the life of an artist is a constant balancing act between passion, pressure, and survival.

Some days we sell work.
Some days we gain visibility.
And some days we simply keep going.

That tension—between the desire to create and the necessity to survive—is what inspired my latest Meme Card submission.

It’s about the quiet resilience that keeps artists creating even when conditions are uncertain.

When I was 20, living in Spain, I went to see Guernica by Picasso. The painting itself is massive, overwhelming… but what stayed with me the most wasn’t the final piece. It was the wall next to it, filled with his studies.

There was a horse sketch in particular that I found so precious—honestly, I liked it even more than the final horse in the painting.

That moment stayed with me.

It made me realize how powerful it is to have access to the artist’s process. To see the decisions, the variations, the paths not taken.

So with this piece, I wanted to share that too.

Not because I have it all figured out—but because none of us really do, and things keep changing fast.

I’m still on Farcaster, even as it shifts more and more toward trading.
I still show up on X, even though… I don’t love it anymore. The reach isn’t the same, engagement feels off, and I’ve definitely lost some motivation there. But everyone in Web3 is still there, so I check in, I post, I try to stay present.

Like most of us, I’m just trying to find spaces where the work still matters. Where people still matter.

That’s what brought me back to 6529.io. Yes, I joined earlier last year.

And honestly? I was lost.

It has its own language, its own pace, and at the time I didn’t have the energy to figure it out. So I stepped away.

Recently, I decided to give it another shot.

This time, I slowed down. Paid attention. Started connecting the dots.

And it started to make sense.

So… what is 6529?

The simple version: it’s a Web3-native ecosystem built around NFTs, culture, and participation.

But what makes it interesting is how it works.

There’s no typical algorithm deciding what gets seen. Instead, the system leans on signals from the community.

Artists submit Meme Cards, and people vote on what resonates. It’s messy, human, and surprisingly refreshing.

There are also Waves, which feel like open channels where conversations and ideas flow more freely.

And then there are the signals that shape everything behind the scenes:

• TDH - Total Days Held, (I think?) — how long and consistently you’ve held 6529 NFTs

• REP - Reputation — what others in the network think of your contributions

• NIC - Network ID Check — a way to establish trust between identities

It takes a minute to wrap your head around it, but the idea is simple:
show up, participate, and over time that presence actually means something.

Why I care about this

As artists, we’ve spent years adapting to platforms that reward attention more than depth.

We’ve learned how to play the game—post more, engage more, chase visibility.

And still, it often feels like we’re shouting into the void.

6529 feels… different.

Not perfect. Not easy. But different.

It feels closer to something built with the community instead of just extracting from it.

It comes from something I’ve been thinking about for a while—and something I’ve lived through, especially during the bear market.

I remember seeing people say:

“Don’t worry about the market. Just focus on your art.”

And I get it. It’s well intentioned.

But it’s also not that simple.

Artists don’t create outside of life.
We create in the middle of it.

Bills still come.
Family still needs us.
Health, time, energy—it all matters.

So the piece became this:

That’s the reality for so many of us.

Some days things click.
Some days they don’t.
And a lot of the time, we’re just figuring it out as we go.

Over the past months, several NFT platforms have announced their closure or slow wind-down. This week, I personally withdrew my remaining NFTs from Nifty Gateway and I’m currently in the process of wrapping up with Rodeo.

When platforms shut down, the immediate reaction is panic, followed by declarations that “NFTs are dead.” That reaction usually comes from the same place that fueled the hype in the first place: a focus on platforms, liquidity, and speculation — not on art.

From an art perspective, something else is happening.

Custody Is Not a Feature — It’s an Artistic Position

One of the reasons I never fully embraced Nifty Gateway was custody. The artist didn’t deploy the contract, didn’t control minting, and ultimately didn’t control the long-term fate of the work. During the hype cycle, that felt acceptable. In hindsight, it wasn’t.

Provenance matters. Not as a buzzword, but as a foundation. If the artist doesn’t mint from their own contract, authorship is already mediated by infrastructure that may not survive the next market cycle. Platform shutdowns expose this fragility very clearly.

If NFTs are to be taken seriously as part of art history — not just as collectibles — custody cannot be optional.

I can’t help but feel sorry for the damage the custodial model of Nifty Gateway will do to this space. Nifty was never about Web3 or adhering to any of the ERC standards.

Rodeo: A Beautiful Place to Get Lost

Rodeo did many things right. Its social feed genuinely worked. Fixed pricing with a 24-hour counter created urgency without auctions. I discovered many artists there and collected works I still care deeply about.

I loved my time on Rodeo.

At the same time, the platform naturally encouraged experimentation over completion. I found myself publishing ideas, tests, and fragments more than fully resolved works. The feedback loop was fast and rewarding, but it subtly shifted my focus away from depth.

This isn’t a failure — it’s a design choice. Rodeo optimized for flow, discovery, and play. As an artist, I had to eventually step back and ask whether that rhythm aligned with the kind of practice I wanted to sustain long term.

Tezos: Quiet, Generous — and Hard to Be Seen

Tezos is not dead for me. I moved away for different reasons.

It became a space largely driven by artists collecting other artists, often at very accessible price points. There’s generosity there, and a strong experimental spirit. But visibility doesn’t come easily. Minting alone does nothing.

To gain traction, artists need to constantly share on X or push their work through group chats and DMs. I never enjoyed that. I hate spamming people. When my reach on X collapsed, the entire visibility loop collapsed with it — and that’s ultimately what made me pause minting on Tezos.

Still, I’m reconsidering it as a space for experimentation again, precisely because it exists outside the current financialized attention economy.

Social Platforms, Trading Gravity, and the Zora Question

On ETH and Base, social layers like Farcaster and the Base app have increasingly shifted toward trading behavior. Attention is priced. Momentum is monetized. Art becomes a wrapper for engagement.

Zora sits at the center of this tension. It looks like art, but it doesn’t behave like art. Tokenized posts, visuals that don’t even register as artworks in wallets, and a system that prioritizes circulation over context. I’m not dismissing it — but I am confused by it, and that confusion feels important.

This isn’t an art-native system. It’s a social-token economy borrowing art’s surface language.

From Hype to Maturity

MoMA has held NFTs in its collection for some time, but its recent acquisitions — donated works formally accepted and curated by the museum’s board — marked a turning point. Museums don’t chase hype. They contextualize movements once they matter historically.

That signal is important.

Art NFTs are no longer primarily seen as trading assets — and that’s not a failure. Speculation moved on to memecoins, gaming, and financial primitives. What remains is quieter, slower, and more demanding.

Fewer platforms. Less visibility. More responsibility on the artist.

So Where Does That Leave Us?

Recently, I was asked on a podcast: Where should artists mint today?
The honest answer is no longer a platform name.

It’s a set of questions:

• Who controls the contract?

• What kind of practice am I building?

• Do I want visibility or depth — and at what cost?

• Will this infrastructure still exist in five years?

NFTs as an art movement didn’t die. Platforms optimized for hype couldn’t survive. What’s left is harder — but also more honest.

And that might be the first real chance this medium has had to grow up.

This Didn’t Happen Loudly. It Happened Correctly.

No hype cycle. No flashy announcement. No institutional “experiment.”

Just structure.

Ryan Zurrer joining the MoMA board was the quiet tell. A cryptonative collector inside one of the most conservative canon-making machines in modern art.

From there, the question was never if MoMA would get it — but how long institutions take to move once they do.

CryptoPunks and Squiggles didn’t need defending. They needed positioning.

And that positioning is now permanent.

Why This Acquisition Is Different

This wasn’t one collector pushing an agenda.

This was a collective donation — cryptonative collectors contributing works from their personal collections to a public institution.

That matters.

Movements don’t enter museums through ego.
They enter through consensus.

Punks and Squiggles weren’t chosen because they’re expensive. They were chosen because they’re foundational. Early. Minimal. On-chain. Instantly legible. Impossible to unsee once understood.

This is MoMA saying: this is where the lineage starts.

If You Were Here Early, This Is Your Win Too

If you were here in ’21 or earlier — minting, collecting, writing, arguing, building — this moment didn’t arrive for you.

It arrived because of you.

Institutions don’t discover movements. They ratify them after the fact. The work was already done.

MoMA is just catching up — and doing it properly.

What Comes Next

This is not the finish line. It’s the green light.

• Node Foundation opens in January with a major CryptoPunks exhibition.

• MoMA exhibitions follow acquisitions — not the other way around.

• Once one blue-chip institution locks a canon, others align.

This is how art history hardens.

Slowly. Then all at once.

We did it!

Crypto art no longer needs validation.

But history needs anchors.

Punks and Squiggles are now institutional anchors — fixed points in the story of 21st-century digital culture.

Wen MoMA?

Now.

And the implications are just getting started.

I spent years building my presence there, one authentic interaction at a time. Last I checked, I sold around 40 ETH worth of art and spent about 50 ETH collecting from others. It was more than a marketplace — it was a living ecosystem of creativity and reciprocity.

But life, as it often does, had other plans.

I ran from an abusive husband and lost my business in the process. It was a brutal reset. I kept my son, and that was all that truly mattered. ❤‍🔥

When I stopped spending, the attention faded fast. A few wrong associations didn’t help either, and suddenly the space that had once felt vibrant and supportive grew distant and cold. It’s painful to watch a community that once celebrated your art turn away when you no longer fit its algorithmic rhythm.

Then I found Farcaster — a much warmer and more genuine corner of the internet. The conversations there felt alive again, real, human. It reminded me of the early days of Web3: before the noise, before the marketing gloss, before the hierarchy of visibility.

But collectors aren’t quite there yet. And when you’re working two jobs and raising a child alone, there’s only so much time to give to the machine.

So I deactivated my X account — not in anger, but out of self-preservation. The platform hasn’t felt healthy for a long time. I needed space to breathe, to create without the weight of algorithms and empty engagement.

Still, part of me couldn’t erase the years I invested in building that presence. The people, the stories, the history — they mattered. So I decided to quietly bring the account back, not to chase relevance, but to keep the door open.

It will stay on the back burner for now — waiting for a shift in management, culture, and spirit. Waiting for X to feel like a community again, not a competition.

I’m not disappearing. I’m simply choosing heart over hustle.
Because some spaces feed the algorithm, and others feed the soul.

It seems obvious when you put it that way. But that brings me to a crucial question:

What is an Original?

In the digital realm, you can’t point to one “original object” the way you can with a canvas. But you can assign meaning through ownership. The ownership structure is what defines the work: is it a single token, or is that ownership split into ten, a hundred, or ten thousand parts?

The work is born at the moment of minting on-chain. That’s when intention crystallizes into existence, but the “original file” dilemma remains.

Projects like Art Blocks on Ethereum and Ordinals on Bitcoin are good examples, where the art (and often the code itself) lives entirely on the blockchain. With those, I almost feel the tangible presence of an “original.”

Most other NFT drops work differently: the token only points to a file somewhere else—usually on IPFS or Arweave. Those are safer than centralized servers, sure, but they’re still not the same as the permanence of fully on-chain data. I’ve often had the feeling that the “file” on IPFS is the true original—but the deeper I go, the more I believe it’s the act of minting that makes the piece “real,” despite where the original file is placed.

This is a new level of concept art!

Burning the Physical

This debate isn’t new. In the early days, there was a movement where collectors would ask artists to literally burn the physical original after minting the NFT, to make the token “the only version.”  There were videos showing proof of the artist burning the physical piece, and some collectors paid huge sums for them! It shows just how much we’ve struggled with the question of what the ‘original’ really is. Personally, it never felt right—and honestly, it deserves a whole article on its own.

If you’re working digitally, that art is inherently digital. So, is the original the first file saved on your device? Or is it the moment you decide to mint it? I’d argue it’s the minting—the intentional act of saying, “this is it.” That’s when the work – and therefore the original - is born.

Multi-Chain Editions and Transparency

Then there’s the question of multi-chain minting. Some people call it cheating, but I don’t think it is—if you’re transparent about it. Call it an “Open Edition Multi-Chain” and let collectors decide which chain they prefer. Transparency is everything.

For me, it would be comparable to offering a collector a choice of paper and frame to how they’d want their print made. If I had the choice, I’d want all my art on one chain, in one wallet. Instead, I follow where artists choose to mint—and right now, that experience is fragmented and messy.

That said, this only really works for unique art editions. For 10k projects, which function more as assets, it’s a whole different game. In theory, you could have a cross-chain mint—but it would require a serious tool: one that compiles all mints across chains, aggregates floor prices, tracks secondary activity, and makes the whole collection legible as a single asset class. Without that, cross-chain is just confusion.

Art x Assets

This brings me to a distinction I think we don’t talk about enough: Art vs. NFT assets.

A 10k PFP collection isn’t really “art” in the traditional sense—it’s an asset class that relies on liquidity, floor price, utility, and trading activity. I’d compare it to trading cards and other collectibles. Collectors in that space are often still just crypto traders in disguise. 

True art collecting is about meaning, connection, and intention. And I believe the NFT art market will only fully mature when real art enthusiasts come in with that mindset. Because for them, ART IS the utility. We collect to appreciate it, to support the artist—not to flip it. Trading can be part of it if you want to rotate your collection and keep the wheel spinning, sure, but that’s secondary. We could go deep into royalties and the secondary market here, but that’s another article, another debate.

So, is Every Digital Artwork a 1/1? 

After much thought, I could agree that every digital artwork is, at its core, a 1/1. The rest is just a question of how you divide ownership, how you choose to store it, and how transparent you are in that process.

So maybe the better question isn’t what is the original? but rather: how do we, as artists and collectors, decide where the “birth” of a work takes place and how we want to split ownership?

Because in digital art, the original isn’t something you can hold in your hands—it’s something you choose to recognize. And at the heart of it all, that recognition is about ownership.

For 25 years, I worked in the traditional art world. That meant building a clientele, selling work, and (let’s be honest) creating what people would actually buy. Landscapes, tourist-friendly scenes, art that “fit” into homes. I wasn’t faking it — but I wasn’t fully free either.

The only time I broke away from that cycle was a big project called Like a Girl, Dare to Dream. It was about empowerment, representation, impact. It got attention, made waves, and for the two years I dedicated to it, I felt like I was creating from my soul. But financially? It crushed me. I couldn’t get enough sponsors to even cover the costs. The lesson was harsh: passion projects don’t always pay the bills.

And then… NFTs.

Suddenly, in 2021, I found myself surrounded by a community that didn’t care if my art matched a sofa. Collectors in this space encouraged weird, raw, authentic work. They challenged the system. They wanted truth. It was liberating.

I sold a lot back then. And every bit of what I made, and more, I reinvested into supporting other artists. My marriage was stable, my shop was doing well — so I used that window of freedom to build a digital collection I still treasure today. It has zero liquidity, but it gives me joy every single time I look at it.

Then everything fell apart.

The market crashed. And so did my marriage. My ex weaponized everything he could think of: threatening to sue me over my online posts, demanding rent from me because I refused to keep living in what had become passive rape, and finally pushing the one card I couldn’t gamble with — custody of my son. I gave up my rights because I couldn’t risk losing him. And then I ran. I grabbed my son, the cats, and left to seek shelter with and old friend.

She tried to help by selling my inventory, but they went for less than the cost of materials — many of my oil paintings sold just to be painted over. Two decades of work reduced to blank canvases. That broke me.

I stopped painting. I focused on getting by with admin jobs, side gigs — anything that kept us afloat.

But Web3 never really let me go. Every so often, a project, a drop or collab pulled me back in. Digital art didn’t require canvases, brushes, or months of savings. I could create with almost no cost. And beyond that — the blockchain itself became part of the inspiration. A new medium. A new playground. Suddenly, I wasn’t just making images. I was experimenting with technology, trying new formats, and finding a place to share my story with a community that actually cared.

So did NFTs ruin my art career?
Yes. They tore down everything I thought I had built.

But they also freed me. They gave me space to create without compromise, to explore without worrying about materials or galleries, and to connect my art to something bigger than just me.

Now, I still mint. I still create. Sales? Practically none — and I joke about it, because if you don’t laugh, you cry. But every piece I put out is mine. Pure, unfiltered, not made for anyone’s living room but for my own need to express.

NFTs didn’t save me financially. But they gave me something else I needed just as much: a place to share my story.

It was a surreal moment. Not just because my work was featured in national media—but because I wasn’t credited anywhere.

This painting was originally collected during my time as a resident artist in Charleston and shown at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. It’s one of my most-loved works—especially popular as a print and on throw pillows (seriously, people adore the pillow version!). Its warm glow and nostalgic mood capture the soul of the city.

The homeowner, Kelly Pfeil—dear friend and collector of my work—renovated this 1802 mansion with incredible care, and my painting became part of the rebirth of that space. Now it’s being seen by millions. And yet, my name wasn’t included in the TV coverage, or the viral post, or the real estate listing. That’s the reality of being a traditional artist: your work can travel far, but your identity doesn’t always accompany it.

Enter NFTs.

Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with Web3.
NFTs provide something that the traditional art world often forgets: permanent attribution. On-chain provenance. Built-in credit. A link back to the creator—always.

Which brings me to this: I’m currently considering launching a curated NFT collection featuring my most iconic oil paintings from the traditional years. These are pieces that have built my career, made their way into prestigious collections, and now—some of them—are going viral without a signature attached.

It’s time to change that.

We say in Web3 that “you are early.”
But this is a rare moment where the past and future of my art are literally hanging on the same wall.

As a woman and as an artist, I already felt overlooked in that environment. I hadn’t yet come out locally as bisexual, though I’ve known this about myself since my teens. Being married to a man at the time, everyone assumed I was straight. I never corrected them. I didn’t want to perform my identity for anyone—but that invisibility weighed heavily.

That moment crystallized something for me: even in the art world—supposedly a space of progress and expression—queer visibility still comes at a cost.

Now, years later, I find myself curating Post-Pride—a group exhibition opening July 5th at Casa Nua in São Paulo. The name says it all: it’s what comes after the parade, after the hashtags, after the rainbow-washed marketing fades.

This isn’t about visibility as decoration. It’s about reckoning, survival, joy, rage, embodiment, and reclamation. It’s about what’s left behind when the party is over—and who gets to keep telling their story.

Curating this show as a Web3-native artist has given me a unique lens. I’ve watched how NFTs offered us new freedom—freedom to mint on our own terms, to sidestep gatekeepers, to connect globally—but also how this space, like any other, struggles with power, erasure, and tokenism. Post-Pride reflects that duality: a collision of on-chain expression and analog intimacy.

We’re bringing together artists across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, working in all kinds of mediums—from glitch video and performance to painting, photography, sculpture, menstrual blood art, and traditional film. Some works are NFTs, some are physical. Some are loud and confrontational; others are soft but defiant. Together, they tell a powerful story.

And it is a story—carefully curated, not a scattered group show. The exhibition is structured around pairings that explore dualities: softness and violence, celebration and mourning, intimacy and resistance. There’s political protest and poetic reflection. Sacred rage and sensual tenderness. It’s all there, because we are all that.

I’m not here to “give voice” to anyone—queer artists already speak loud and clear. I’m here to help build a platform that refuses to look away. A platform where our truths don’t need to be sanitized to be accepted.

Share the Process, Not Just the Product

Collectors aren’t just buying pixels on a screen—they’re investing in a story, in a vision, in you. When you mint an NFT, you’re not just releasing an artwork into the world; you’re building a permanent, public record of your creative journey. That journey deserves context.

Take the time to include details about your process:

• Did you sketch it by hand first?

• Which software or tools did you use?

• Was it generated through AI? If so, what role did you play in shaping the output?

These details not only deepen the value of your piece but build trust. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using AI—it's a tool like any other. What’s problematic is presenting an AI-generated prompt as if it took hours of manual labor and complex editing. This kind of misrepresentation doesn’t just hurt the trust between artist and collector—it diminishes the credibility of the entire space.

Mint With Intention, Not for Attention

The blockchain may not be eternal, but it’s currently one of the most durable and transparent ways to document your work. Every NFT minted becomes part of a digital footprint that can outlive trends and survive beyond social media platforms. Ask yourself: Will I be proud of this five years from now? Am I adding to a meaningful body of work or just chasing a quick buck?

It’s tempting to treat NFT drops as disposable, especially in a fast-moving market. But short-term hype rarely translates to long-term respect. Collectors can tell the difference. And future curators or historians—regardless of whether they’re researching from a decentralized archive or some yet-to-be-invented system—will be looking for substance, not just hype. What you choose to mint today shapes how your work is remembered tomorrow.

A Living Database for the Future

By including metadata, process notes, and thoughtful descriptions, you’re not just marketing your work—you’re creating a living archive. Imagine a world where art historians can trace not only the aesthetic evolution of digital artists but the very tools and technologies that shaped each generation.

This information is more than just fluff. It’s documentation. It’s education. And it could one day become part of the permanent story of art history.

Your Signature on the Chain

Your NFT is more than a file with a price tag. It’s a piece of culture, a timestamp, a reflection of your voice in this moment. Whether you sculpt it by hand, code it line by line, or generate it with AI, your process matters. Don’t hide it—honor it.

We’ve all heard those big success stories about artists who “made it,” but for every triumph, there are countless others struggling to find their way. Like any industry, not everyone will achieve the same level of success.

To grasp the true complexity of the NFT art scene, we need to consider multiple perspectives.

Art NFTs didn’t emerge from the art world itself. They were born from the crypto movement, opening up an unexpected opportunity for artists to reach a global audience of digital investors.

It’s important to recognize this context. Most people in the space aren’t traditional art buyers; they’re investors. To understand the trajectory of NFT art, we first have to understand the crypto investor mentality.

We’re here because we love crypto, whether driven by a heart of anarchism, dreaming of a utopia free of centralized control, or by a trader's mindset, seeing it as an opportunity to profit anonymously and exit when the time is right.

But the reality is that money flows where tokens trade, and art is often the side stream, starting with popular PFP projects and trickling down to limited editions and 1/1 pieces. In 2021, when NFT art was thriving, discussions rarely centered around the quality of the artwork; instead, the buzz was all about the floor prices of collections.

Many NFT collectors began as crypto traders who gradually ventured into the art market. After countless interviews on Spaces, I’ve learned that most purchases come with a consideration for liquidity—whether the piece can be resold if needed. Only a small segment buys purely for the love of art.

The upside? People who never considered buying art before are now collecting. But many lack traditional art knowledge and make decisions based on an artist’s visibility in the community, their sales history, and sometimes just the hype. Yes, some genuinely appreciate the art, and there are also a few collectors who buy pieces to cherish and display in their digital galleries. Still, the underlying financial motive is hard to ignore.

Let’s face it: we’re tired of the "starving artist" stereotype, and NFTs appeared to be a great opportunity to finally make a living from our art. For many, it was their first time making a living off art. And for some, it was even their first time considering themselves artists.

Selling digital art removed the logistical nightmare of shipping and opened doors for international showcases. I’ve seen firsthand how impactful this has been—like when I organized a show in Brazil featuring nearly 300 artists. The feedback was overwhelming; for many, it was their first international exposure, a moment they thought might never happen.

Suddenly, the world seemed accessible. Artists who once struggled with local limitations found themselves engaging with a global audience. I curated virtual galleries, hosted events, brought art to Times Square, and wrote articles to support our community. I put my heart into it, and I know many of you did too.

We all started with 1/1s at respectable prices. But as the bear market arrived, we began to lower prices, run zero-bid auctions, and experiment with editions. We became each other’s biggest supporters, buying from friends to keep the vibe alive. Yet, many left—pushed out by the harsh reality of needing to pay the bills.

Now, the latest trend is free (or nearly free) editions. We share what we wouldn’t sell at high prices but still offer good art. Why? For validation? Exposure? The hope that something will go viral and become profitable? The shift is a sign of struggle; many of us feel pressured to keep creating while being told by big collectors to “just focus on the art” as if our bills will magically pay themselves.

It’s clear that we’re desperate, while still having hope. We feel an innate need to create and share our art with the world.

I’ll leave market predictions to the crypto experts and instead focus on how we can utilize blockchain technology to evolve the art space.

• NFTs as a Medium: One of the most compelling aspects is using NFTs not just as a digital format but as an art medium itself. Like choosing between oil paint or sculpture, artists can intentionally craft works with interactive and dynamic features unique to NFTs—leveraging burning mechanisms, redeemable traits, and other yet-to-be-explored ideas.

• NFTs as Proof of Authenticity: Traditionally, a printed certificate accompanied physical artworks for authenticity. With NFTs, provenance is embedded in the blockchain, and we can even create digital twins for physical pieces to offer a seamless link between the two worlds.

• NFTs as Documentation: As long as IPFS issues are addressed, NFTs have the potential to serve as digital records of art history, preserving works for future generations in ways that traditional mediums never could.

• NFTs as Access/Tickets: The use of NFTs for token-gated events and exclusive content is already happening, and I see this area growing rapidly in the coming years.

Despite the clichés, the possibilities truly are endless.

Ultimately, it all comes back to art. For most of us, the only sustainable path is to attract genuine art lovers rather than speculators. This starts with education. We’re seeing this shift already, with services like art subscriptions for Samsung Frame TV and other innovations that are making digital art more mainstream.

Digital displays need to be more user-friendly to help people appreciate their digital collections at home and work. We can also educate about the benefits of owning digital art—like changing displays to match your mood or accessing a global artists and diverse cultures.

I’m sorry to say this, dear average Joe, but we aren’t all going to make it. The high-stakes game is dominated by serious traders. But hey, we can still enjoy ourselves and keep building a vision for a tech-driven art future.

Let’s continue to seize the opportunities the blockchain and our community offer. Keep your head up. Keep creating.

But please be realistic. Invest your time where there is a return on investment. I was frustrated when I saw artists shaming each other for not being active during the bear market, only to return at the first signs of the bull. Nobody knows your story better than you do.

Don’t let anyone dictate what’s best for you. Only you can decide that.

For those who are new, here's a quick clarification: Farcaster is the network, and Warpcast is the client (the app we use for social networking).

Someone gave me an invite code, and I started to explore. I came across a few artists, but most of the crowd at the time were degens. So, I quickly lost motivation to interact there because my peeps were not joining the party (YET.)

Fast forward a year, and Warpcast launched frames. GAME-CHANGER!

Frames function as a mini-app inside the app. But why is this so cool?

For starters, you can mint NFTs right in the timeline. Devs are getting creative with all sorts of frames, which can be gadgets with great functionality or simply for fun. I mostly use the frames that check "tips allowance." Let's dive a bit into this!

You know how we always struggle to get engagement on X? Imagine if you could tip your followers for engaging with your posts?

Well, on Warpcast, a bunch of new meme coins are using a tipping system to distribute tokens to new users. You have to hold a certain number of tokens to be able to receive an allowance to distribute. Each token has a different requirement.

I am currently involved with DEGEN, RARE (yes, SuperRare is in there), HAM, and some other tokens I don't even know. People tip, and you can claim your tokens at the end of each season.

I am particularly bullish on DEGEN, and here is why: the value keeps going up, and they have a pretty good roadmap that involves staking in a new project called ALFAFRENS. Yes, I have just signed up for that.

There is so much going on, and it is hard to choose what to invest your time in, so I was a little reluctant to try this, but I see the potential, so here we go. I am very new, so here is what I understood so far:

It seems to be another social on Farcaster, linked to Warpcast, but you must use a browser on your phone to navigate. The first step is to move some DEGEN to the custodian wallet generated for you at signup.

After you have DEGEN in there, you subscribe to channels for 500 DEGEN/month each. The channels are direct communication channels where the host shares their "alpha." As you subscribe to channels, you start receiving Alpha tokens. You can claim them and stake them on channels.

I will be very honest. I don't really know the right strategy on this yet as I only signed up a few hours ago, but so far, I think it is a great plan to incentivize people to hold DEGEN (it will support holding the value and make it stronger).

The NFT Art Dilemma

NFT art presents a unique conundrum in the art world. Critics argue that digital art, often associated with NFTs, lacks the physicality and historical context that traditional art forms possess. To address these concerns, metadata can play a transformative role.

1.     Authenticity and Ownership: Metadata can serve as a digital certificate of authenticity for NFT art. It can include information about the artist's identity, creation date, and a cryptographic signature, providing irrefutable proof of ownership and origin. This helps address concerns about counterfeit NFTs and ensures that the digital art is a genuine creation of the artist.

2.     Provenance and History: One of the key aspects of traditional art is its provenance, the documented history of ownership and exhibition. Blockchain technology, along with the use of metadata, can capture this information for NFT art, tracking its journey from the artist's creation to various digital galleries, exhibitions, and private collections. This provenance data not only adds value to NFTs but also anchors them in the rich tapestry of art history.

3.     Contextual Information: Art derives much of its meaning from the context in which it was created. Metadata can include detailed descriptions, artist statements, and historical references, offering viewers a deeper understanding of the artwork's significance. This contextual information can bridge the gap between NFT art and traditional art forms.

4.     Exhibition and Curation: Metadata can help curators and collectors organize and curate NFT art exhibitions, much like traditional art. By categorizing and tagging NFTs based on themes, styles, or periods, metadata facilitates the creation of meaningful and engaging exhibitions in virtual spaces.

5.     Accessibility and Preservation: Metadata ensures that NFT art remains accessible and well-preserved. By recording technical specifications, file formats, and storage conditions, metadata assists in the long-term preservation of digital art, making it available for future generations.

Embracing the Transformation

For NFT art to be recognized as real art, it must embrace the transformative power of metadata, using already established formats such as the one offered by Linked Art. When artists, collectors, and platforms adopt standardized metadata practices, it will not only protect the integrity of digital creations but also enhance their cultural and artistic value.

Furthermore, the art world as a whole must evolve to acknowledge the unique qualities of NFT art. Museums, galleries, and institutions can play a crucial role by integrating NFT art into their collections and exhibitions, accompanied by comprehensive metadata. This step will signal the art establishment's recognition of NFTs as a legitimate and innovative art form.

Conclusion

Yes, I have been absent, and I apologize. My past few months have been dedicated to building something huge for the art community, a partnership with Nik Kalyani.

I would like to introduce you to ArtPacks and share some of my vision of what we are building, why we are building it, and how we plan to support the NFT Art Community.

During my 20+ years in the art industry, the most important thing I have learned is: selling art is not easy. There are several things one has to master in order to sell, and the "least" important (although it should be the most important) is the actual art.

When I joined web3, I heard over and over about how artists could now connect directly with collectors (a huge perception mistake) as if that would help them sell their art. People got confused between content ownership and relationship.

There are tons of things I love about web3, and a top favorite is that you own your content. A platform may go down, and you may lose the interface you are used to, but the actual content is minted on the blockchain, provenance points to the creator, and all you need is to know how to read and edit it (the job platforms do for you).

When you think about art and the dream of having no middleman, no gatekeeping to present your content (art in this case), you go back to the misleading idea that if you create, someone will buy. It is not that simple. Web3 offers no gatekeeping to mint your art. Sales is another thing.

Having managed my own art business for roughly 20 years, I realized that the least I did in the period was actual art. I spent 99% of my time on administrative and marketing tasks. I did most of my sales directly to my collectors, very few through galleries. The sales part took most of my time.

I have watched artists in the NFT space look at a handful of highly successful cases and dream that it would be easy to replicate and that every artist could become a millionaire. We had a lot of incredible stories in 2021, but with the bear market, most artists have come to the sad conclusion that it is actually not that easy.

What is ArtPacks? 

ArtPacks is an Art Minting Platform using gamification as an attractive to collectors.

Collectors buy a pack containing five artworks inside that are revealed after purchase. The entry point is low, with a chance of revealing a higher-valued art. All possible pieces for each drop pass a curation process to ensure quality.

Who is Fer? 

I’m a 46 years old single mom, Brazilian-born fiery Latina. I started working at the age of 15 as my mother's assistant in her graphic design home studio. My first gold medal award for art was at the age of 12 in a competition for adults. However, I never believed art was a possible career, so my formal education is in Marketing and Advertising. I went to school at night so I could have a full-time job, not by monetary need, but because I wanted to be ahead in my career.

In my first year of University, I was accepted as a trainee at a major multinational, and after I left, one year later, the Marketing Director personally called me to offer me a position in the company he had moved to. I was doing really well. In 2000 I got married, and due to a work opportunity for him, we moved to the USA. My visa didn’t allow me to work, so I returned to art, my first love. Again, I received awards and have a long list of international exhibitions and accomplishments, including a 2-story museum solo exhibition and being co-owner and marketing director at a gallery in Charleston, SC.

In 2021 I started my journey on NFTs through a collector’s invitation, being part of a charitable project (Kindred Hearts). Since then, I have several sold-out collections, have been a speaker at NFTNYC twice, a speaker at NFT Moonfest in Las Vegas, and have created and participated widely in virtual events.

Today l would like to discuss virtual galleries and their benefits for NFT artists.

I have had great experiences as an artist (I had sales on several of my virtual receptions) and as a collector (collected after a private tour with the artist in his gallery), and I would love to encourage you to set up your virtual gallery! Or several... I have over 20, between the ones I curate for the community, some with my collection, and a few with my own work.

Before we get started, I would love to share my most recent gallery, a custom design by Art Unchained, and this time I actually added my own art. 🤣

If you're not familiar with NFTs, they are digital assets that are verified on a blockchain. NFTs have become increasingly popular in the art world as they provide a new way for artists to monetize their work and reach a global audience.

Points to consider:

One way that artists can showcase their work is through virtual galleries. Virtual galleries offer several benefits, including increased accessibility. Unlike physical galleries, virtual galleries can be accessed from anywhere worldwide, allowing artists to reach a much larger audience.

Virtual galleries are also cost-effective. Setting up a physical exhibition can be expensive and time-consuming, but with a virtual gallery, there's no need to worry about logistics or finding a physical space. This can save artists both time and money.

In addition to being cost-effective, virtual galleries also provide an enhanced user experience. Visitors can explore the exhibition at their own pace, view artworks up close, and even interact with the artist. This level of engagement can create a more memorable and meaningful experience for visitors.

Another benefit of virtual galleries is increased sales opportunities. Virtual galleries provide a direct link between the artist and the buyer by eliminating intermediaries such as galleries or auction houses. This can result in increased revenue for the artist.

Finally, virtual galleries are versatile. They can showcase a wide variety of art forms, including 3D and multimedia works, which may be difficult to display in a physical gallery.

In conclusion, virtual galleries offer a valuable platform for NFT artists to showcase their work, reach a larger audience, and increase their revenue opportunities.

There are several platforms and metaverses to have your gallery at. I use Oncyber and Spatial mostly.

Multidisciplinary, but I have a special connection with 3d and Neo-expressionism, both traditional and digital.

• How long have you been an artist?

My entire life. Art has always been a release for me and a way of expressing myself.

• What inspired you to become an artist? 

Escape - I know that sounds strange but growing up extremely poor in an abusive home, art became my escape. It was something I had that allowed me to forget who I was and imagine a better life.

• When did you start on NFTs?

NFTs were a natural progression for me in 2021. I had been involved in the crypto world for many years leading up to it. It gave me a path to incorporate two things I love -technology and art.

• How is your creative process?

My creative process is ever changing. Doing digital art usually involves lots of coffee and many hours in front of the computer. Traditional art is more sporadic for me. There are moments I feel inspired and have to put something down on canvas or paper. I have a very artistic household where I try to encourage creating for my children and involve them in as many processes as possible. If you can incorporate your family into the creative process, you don't take time away from either for the other.

• Did NFTs change the way you create?

Yes and no. The process and styles are the same, but it has allowed me to create more frequently and explore subjects that I probably wouldn't have explored otherwise.

I currently have a drop on Foundation that will include 10 works when finished. "Techno-Expressionist Visions" is a very personal collection depicting the struggles and complexities of the human condition.

• Who are the people that inspire you on web3?

Well, there are so many. For starters, Irina @Ambi_eth She has a will like nobody I've ever met. Doing art to survive after escaping Ukraine and raising children alone. One of the strongest women I've ever met. Ella @bright_lightart always a professional with an intense passion, and creativity. David @dpoxley as a techie, I am inspired by his work incorporating technology into his artwork. and you yourself Fer you have a love for art that is unmatched and it shows in everything you do. There are so many others I would love to mention, but I would be here a while. The level of talent that I draw inspiration from in this space is astounding.

• Who is your dream collab?

If we are talking dream collabs, it would definitely be Xcopy

• If you could travel in time, where/when would you like to visit and why?

This is where many would say the future, but I already plan to visit that tomorrow. I would start off at The Curtain Theater -1595 to see the first-ever performance of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. From there, I'd go to 21st century bc and visit the Sumerians. Where it all began.
