The best vending machine you’ll ever use

In the Attic, we’ve placed a vending machine that represents the store. Interacting with this machine opens up the store as displayed in the image below. It’s important to note that in this first release, the Epic Release, the store will be divided into two parts: the FP Shop and the BT Shop.

FP Shop

In the Forgotten Playland Shop you will find the heart of the game – Forgotten Playland tokens. $FP tokens allow you to purchase other items in the store, meaning that getting a hold on some is key to getting started in the game. In the store, players can choose from a variety of different token bundles. You can purchase $FP tokens using credit cards or with crypto.

With your freshly acquired $FP tokens you will be able to buy a plethora of different items. But for now we will focus on one; the PlushKyn Battle Tickets.

PlushKyn Battle Tickets

Now – as we announced last week – PlushKyn Battles are where it really goes down. Participate in thrilling battles to win big, and truly make a name for yourself. You’ll need a ticket for each battle, and these tickets can be bought in the store. The more you buy, the bigger the additional number of tickets. You can only buy tickets with $FP tokens, so ensure you get those first.

BT Shop

The second half of the store is our Battle Token Shop. In here you can spend your freshly won Battle Tokens from participating in PlushKyn Battles.

The cosmetics in this part of the shop can only be bought with these Battle Tokens - so if you see something you really like; make sure to show the rest of the Attic who’s the toughest PlushKyn.

In the future the store will host everything from single cosmetics to full sets, facial expressions, avatars, frames, banners, emoticons and stickers. The store will be your gateway to upgrading your game in Forgotten Playland, allowing you to show off to your fellow PlushKyns.

Three months - Hundreds of battles

The PlushKyn Battle is a paid feature that allows anyone who dares to participate to fight it out against one another in thrilling competitions; spread out over a total period of 3 months. What do you need to participate? A PlushKyn Battle Ticket. This ticket can only be purchased with $FP tokens within the in-game store. After redeeming the ticket, you’re all set to compete for Battle Tokens (BT).

After you have received your ticket, 4 players are matched together, to find out who is the greatest. This game mode consists of multiple party games and a podium where players can see their scores. Once a party game is concluded, the winning player will receive a point, as displayed on the podium. Once a player reaches 5 points, the PlushKyn Battle ends and all players will receive a certain amount of BT, depending on their position.

A couple of facts:

• PlushKyn Battle lasts 3 months during a season (90 days).

• There will be multiple PlushKyn Battles daily

• Tickets cost 3 USD in $FP tokens.

What happens to the $FP tokens?

An often heard concern by our lovely community is what happens with all the $FP tokens, and how that translates into the game. Therefore, we’ve made $FP a core part within this game mode. To start with, we only accept $FP tokens as payment for the PlushKyn Battle tickets. What happens with all those $FP tokens once a ticket is redeemed?

• 60% of the total FP tokens accumulated are burned permanently.

• 40% of the total FP tokens accumulated are rewarded back to the PlushKyn Battle participants.*

Do note: This ratio can be modified by the end of each season if need be.

* These 40% rewards will be paid out to the top 50 players at the end of every month.

Imagine there are a 10,000 battles played throughout the season, with the current $FP market price that would mean there is;

• ~6.500.000 $FP purchased in tickets

• ~3.900.000 $FP burned permanently

• ~2.400.000 $FP redistributed to the top 50 players

Redeeming your Battle Tokens

After a PlushKyn Battle finishes, you will receive Battle Tokens as a reward. Players can purchase exclusive cosmetics that are only available when purchased with Battle Tokens within the Attic (Hub). First off, players make their way to the Toy Vending Machine, and scroll through the available cosmetics. 

The Vending Machine offers a list of cosmetics for players to redeem. These cosmetics come in different token price ranges and supplies. The higher the rarity is, the more tokens it costs to redeem a cosmetic. Some of the cosmetics will be limited in supply and others will be unlimited throughout the season. Did you finish first on the leaderboard? You may have just earned yourself eternal bragging rights.

Show up, every single day

You may read the above quote and think that this only relates to physical activity where your sweat is dripping down your spine, muscles are aching and everything hurts, but it relates to much more than that. When it comes to gaming, it’s a matter of dedication and discipline. Through introducing daily quests, we challenge you as a gamer to show up every single day, and give it your all.

The idea is simple. Every 24 hours there will be 5 new daily quests presented to you as a player. There will be 2 short quests, 2 medium and 1 long quest. After completing the quest you will be awarded with XP and FLUFFY Points that contribute to your player level. The quests may differ per player, but the XP and rewards are distributed equally. If you don’t manage to complete the quest before the timer runs out, you lose your progress and you can start again with the new quests.

Win on a weekly basis

What happens daily, also happens on a weekly basis. Similarly to the daily quests, every 7 days there are 5 new quests that appear for the player. Obviously, these quests will be of bigger magnitude or difficulty than the daily quests, but the rewards system works exactly the same. In combination with the daily quests, a player can have 40 quests per week in total to complete.

You may be wondering, what kind of quests can I expect? Here are some examples!

• Knock 3 players off the platform in Jungle Rumble in a single game

• Use the boost pad a total of 10 times in Rolling Rally and win the game

• Remain disguised as a prop for 60 seconds straight in the Attic

• Win 1 game of Battle Bounce

• Complete and win a Casual game

Please note, the above are merely examples of quests, and may or may not be implemented in the final launch. As you enter the game after the release, you will find out the entire playbook of questing, and what kind of rewards await you after you manage to overcome your challenge.

FLUFFY Points

Anyone that plays Forgotten Playland throughout Season 1 will accumulate FLUFFY Points, be it by participating, playing games, progressing, or holding cosmetics. At the end of the season, these FLUFFY Points will then be converted into $FP Tokens and airdropped.

How to earn FLUFFY Points?

There’s a variety of ways to earn FLUFFY Points. Points can be earned daily, and there is a set limit on how much players can earn in a single day, week or season from gameplay, but by holding cosmetics you can scale up your earnings even more. The points are added automatically, so there’s no need for players to manually claim their points. Below is an overview of all the different ways to earn FLUFFY Points:

• 🎮 Casual game – Players earn FLUFFY Points by participating in the first 10 casual games they play during the day, refreshed every day at 0:00 CET. For every win, the multiplier increases by 0.5x. This means a maximum multiplier of 5x can be applied if a player wins all 10 games.

• ⚔️ PlushKyn Battle – Players can earn FLUFFY Points by participating and completing every PlushKyn Battle. There is no multiplier for winning in this game mode. However, the points paid out are more than what you can earn from Casual games.

• ⏳ Daily & Weekly quests – Players can earn FLUFFY Points when they complete every daily quest per day and weekly quests per week on top of their XP.

• 📈 Leveling up – Players can earn FLUFFY Points by leveling up their profile. They earn XP by playing the casual game mode, and PlushKyn Battle, and completing daily and weekly quests.

• 👕 Holding cosmetics – Players will be able to earn FLUFFY Points not only by playing the game but also by holding cosmetics. These points are rewarded for every day a player holds cosmetics during season 1. Different rarities give different amounts of points.

We couldn’t be more excited for players to go in and make the most of their time in Forgotten Playland. To smoothly track your performance, note that anyone can use their points dashboard, which will provide a breakdown of your standings.

Just so you know, this campaign is also meant to test our server capabilities (in other words: see what we can handle) and find out in what ways bad actors are trying to game our systems.

In reality, there’s a lot more to it, and we’re here to give you a little glimpse into the way we’re implementing both systems. Oh and when we say rewards, we really mean it.

Player progression – Make your way to the top

Are you ready to make your way to the top? Taking inspiration from basically every single game out there, we felt that currently, the player progression in Forgotten Playland is something that’s a little lacking. We want to give players an additional incentive to continue playing, and to keep challenging their friends.

Naturally, anyone that’s newly jumping into the game starts at level one. The level progression follows a linear leveling system all the way to level 60 for season 1. As you make your way through the game, there are four different ways to earn experience points (XP);

• Casual Game

• PlushKyn Battle

• Daily Quests

• Weekly Quests

After each completed game, quest or battle, you will earn a certain amount of XP that will contribute to the progression you’re making. Quests give a different rate of XP than battles or games do, and the amount of XP earned during the latter also depends on the position you end. Obviously, the player finishing number one earns more XP than the one who came in last.

With each level you gain, you unlock level-based rewards. We’re obviously not sharing every single reward that’s there, since we want to keep the element of surprise in, but you can expect anything from customized profile banners, titles, avatars and frames to emotes, stickers, cosmetics and much more.

Player profiling – Show off your efforts

Imagine you’re new to a game and you hop into a server to have some fun. You check who you’re playing against and immediately, you’re captivated by the titles, profile pictures, profile add-ons and levels that your competitors are holding. When you’ve put in a lot of effort into a game, you want others to see that, and it’s fair that you want to show off a little.

That’s why we’re introducing the Player Profile feature, where you can track a wide range of statistics about you as a player, or your fellow PlushKyns. Again, we’re not spoiling everything here yet, but the list below gives you a good impression of what to expect.

• Stats – Track your XP, time played, win ratio, games played and more.

• Level – Check your current level, total XP gained, and remaining XP to the next level.

• Avatar – Pick an avatar from a wide range of options.

• Avatar frame – Decorate the border of your avatar frame.

• Title – Show off your gamer title under the username on a banner e.g. “Tournament Winner”.

• Banner – Decorate your profile with a banner that can be seen during matches of a party game, or pre and post screens.

In the profile section there’s a distinction between the statistics that can only be earned, and others that could also be bought in the store. Certain banners or avatars are only for the select few who manage to beat the competition, whereas others can simply be bought in the store. Adding in these additional features will allow for further customization, and another layer of competition within Forgotten Playland.

These are two of those features that we simply can’t wait to release. It’s a perfect tool to see who the real grinders are, and we will see who simply can’t close the game. To motivate the grind, we’ll be spraying with rewards in tons of unique ways like we described above, but that’s not all. There will be an additional rewards system, that we have not revealed yet. Reflection brings perfection

It feels like yesterday since we first introduced Forgotten Playland to the world. Coming out of the pressure cooker of Vermilion Studios, Forgotten Playland saw the light and was immediately embraced by a passionate bunch. Initially launching with merely a handful of party games, we were excited to welcome everyone into the attic.

The first reactions were positive. Especially at the events we visited such as GDC, Gamescom and the Beam community event, people were having a really good time playing against one another and seeing the potential. Shortly after the initial phase of excitement though, realization kicked in where we started to notice how we could’ve approached things differently.

The players came, that wasn’t the problem. We’ve had thousands of people come into Forgotten Playland and enjoy themselves, but only a small amount of those people came back. Not always having players present to play with, or simply not having retention features implemented made players uninterested in coming back. What did it bring us though? A lot of data points.

Let’s bring in the gamers

After some serious reflection upon ourselves in the past couple of months, we realized that it’s time to hit the ground running. We do have something special in our hands here, as we have been hearing over and over, but some essential ingredients were missing to serve it out to the masses. Confidently, we feel that with this Epic release, we’re ready for the gamers.

One of the main reasons that we’ve chosen to launch on Epic is simply because of the ease of onboarding. According to recent studies, the Epic Games store has more than 270 million users worldwide, all scouting for the latest games to play. Being a few clicks away from such a grand audience is key to reaching our goals.

Having our heart in the web3 space, we do not wish to shove all the exciting features away, but merely make them optional and abstracted for those only interested in simply enjoying a fun game. We want to comfort the traditional gamer, make them feel at home, and not force anything upon them. NFTs, blockchain integration, ERC-20 tokens – optional.

How to participate in the sale

The main characters of Forgotten Playland are Plushies. These characters can be customized with the help of cosmetics that come in all forms and shapes. To receive those cosmetics, we’re hosting this ToyBox sale that grants you the opportunity to be the first to own every single one of the 30 available cosmetics, all varying in rarity. Below, you can find a step-by-step guide on how to participate.

Step 1 – Head over to forgottenplayland.com/toybox

The first step to take is to head over to the official sales page. Please be careful of any imposters that use an alternate url.

Step 2 – Connect your wallet and add the Beam mainnet as your network

Once you’ve arrived at the sales page, it’s time to connect your wallet. In the upper right corner, you will notice a button saying ‘Connect wallet’. This will trigger a pop-up window where you’re asked to connect your wallet, whether that’s MetaMask, Rabby, or any other EVM chain compatible wallet.

When you’re connected with your desired wallet, it’s important to ensure you’re connected to the Beam mainnet. When using MetaMask a pop-up will trigger when connecting your wallet asking you to switch networks.

If you wish to add Beam to your wallet manually you can do so in two ways;

1. Connecting using Chainlist – https://chainlist.org/chain/4337

2. Importing the RPC settings:

   1. Network Name: Beam Mainnet

Step 3 – Select the amount of ToyBoxes

All set up and connected to the Beam mainnet? Great! Let’s proceed to determine how many ToyBoxes you wish to purchase. In the middle of the screen you see an amount of ToyBoxes that are currently selected. By default, this number stands at 1. You can choose to increase this number by pressing the ‘+’ symbol. Thereafter, if you wish to decrease the number, you can press the ‘-’ symbol.

Once you’ve selected the desired amount of ToyBoxes you wish to purchase, press ‘Buy’ in the middle of the button. This will trigger a pop-up where the process continues.

Step 4 – Select your currency and buy now

After following the previous steps, you will be greeted with a pop-up that shows an overview of your purchase. In this overview, you can select which currency you wish to use to finalize your purchase.

Not just two party games, but more than five

The biggest question that’s been floating around Forgotten Playland is when the game’s expected to launch. We’ve always mentioned the launch to be scheduled in the first quarter of 2024 with two party games to start with, and more games to come soon after. The game studio has been working non-stop to make that deadline, but we feel that we can do better.

That’s why we decided to adjust our schedule slightly. Instead of opening up the gates this month we’re limiting it to a small group to start with. A month later, the game’s full launch is happening with a lot more than we initially planned.

Instead of launching with only two party games, we'll have more than five unique games to begin with. This additional month gives us the extra room to iron out the details and bugs, have a focused presence at GDC in San Francisco, and invite several gaming communities to join us from the very beginning.

Depending on the amount of tokens you hold, you will be airdropped a unique cosmetic. To ease your mind, the snapshot has already taken place, so you’re either in, or you’re not. 25th of April – Opening the Attic
The moment you’ve all been waiting for: the actual launch of Forgotten Playland! This is the moment where we invite everyone to download the latest version of the game and join us in the Attic. Compete against your friends across more than five different party games. That also means you can expect a wide range of clips, teasers and footage of those games in the next few weeks across our socials.

After releasing Forgotten Playland, we’ll be regularly updating it with new party games, new cosmetics and more features. The first of these releases will take place at the end of May.

The center of the playground

Forgotten Playland is a rich environment full of activity and joyful nostalgia. Given the extensive possibilities of cosmetics and the economization of the game, we’re determined to have all utility of the Forgotten Playland token to be within the game itself.

The main utility of the token is as follows:

Native currency for the in-game store: Within the Forgotten Playland there will be a store where players can acquire items to enrich their gaming experience. The store will include a grand variety of items that players can purchase, such as:

• Cosmetics: This could be standalone trait cosmetics to upgrade their character or full sets of cosmetics that consist of multiple traits. Both of these can and will vary in price depending on their rarity.

• Tournament tickets: Given the competitive nature of Forgotten Playland, tournaments will be frequently hosted. To participate in these tournaments, players may have to purchase tickets for individual tournaments or multiple tournaments at once.

• Toy Boxes: Acquire a variety of standalone cosmetics from all rarities with these Toy Boxes. New Toy Boxes may be introduced with special events. More details on the Toy Boxes will be shared in due course.

We are currently brainstorming a wide range of other utilities for the FP token that is scheduled to be introduced soon after the game’s launch. Do know that we intend to have all the utility happen inside the game.

Token economics

The total supply will be set to 10,000,000,000 (10 billion) FP tokens with no possibility for future increase in the token supply, and will be distributed as follows following the token generation event (TGE):

• 20% Game Reserve - Will be reserved for further expansion of the game (unlocking monthly over 48 months)

• 30% Community Incentives - Will be reserved for various community incentive purposes, including incentivation to play and be involved with the game

  • 10% of the 30% to be unlocked at TGE - The remaining 90% of the 30% is unlocking monthly over 24 months

• 25% Seed Contributors* - Will be allocated to seed contributors of the project

  • 10% of the 25% to be unlocked at TGE - The remaining 90% of the 25% would be locked-up for 3 months, then unlocked monthly over 18 months

• 25% Contributors & Advisors* - Will be allocated to the existing core contributors and future contributors (including future hires) working on the project (locked-up for 6 months, then unlocked monthly over 24 months)

The initial circulating supply will be 550,000,000 FP tokens (5.5%) based on the 10% of the Community Incentives and 10% of the Seed Contributors allocations being unlocked at TGE. Who would’ve thought that a bunch of toys laying around someone’s attic would create their own world of mystery. We’re more than happy to welcome you to Forgotten Playland, a social party game that houses a variety of minigames.

Launching in the first quarter of 2024, it’s time for an elaborate overview.

From abandoned attic to social playground

Ever wondered what happened to that bunch of toys you left unattended for several years? We discovered a captivating story of an abandoned attic in a house that was abruptly deserted by its owners. There are many unknowns that we have yet to discover. We have no clue where the house is located, who lived there or why they suddenly left all of their belongings.

All that is known is the magical world called Forgotten Playland. The once dusty attic has been transformed into a vibrant spacious area that has everything a toy would ever need. With toys from several generations like a telescope, train set and wooden building blocks, you can taste the history just looking around you.

The most important factor of the attic must be the hundreds, if not thousands of plush toys dancing, competing, building and roaming around. Although the space looked clean at first glance, you could smell the fierce sense of competition gushing through the air. What no one ever realized was the dark-side that rose within the plush toys after they had been left abandoned for all these years.

Enter the Social Hub

Your starting point in Forgotten Playland is the Social Hub; a dynamic and interactive online space where players come to hang out and socialize within the game. The Social Hub is the Plushies’ attic where they were left behind. It functions as the starting point for the player’s interaction with the game.

Within the Social Hub, you can find a variety of thematic areas that divide the attic in a number of vibes and themes. Are you in the mood for an uplifting dance-off in the Space Disco Area, or rather go sunbathing at the Beach Bar? There’s something for everyone. Besides roaming around, the Hub is your portal to important aspects of the game;

• Customization Station – Customize your in-game character

• Minigame Chest – Compete in thrilling minigames

Customize your Plushie

As a player, you make your way through the game as a Plushie. At first look, they have a very cute appearance with an innocent touch to it. Their dark-side is hidden, and only comes out when triggered the right way. Whereas the base layer of each character is similar, players can customize up to six different traits of their Plushies through the use of cosmetics:

In the Social Hub, the player makes their way to the Customization Station where a wide range of possible adjustments to their character are shown. Naturally, these cosmetics will vary from common to ultra rare ensuring every single Plushie is unique. Collecting these cosmetics is done through ToyBox collections, the first of which to be released prior to the game’s initial launch.

World full of minigames

What’s more fun than playing games with friends? Playing a lot of games with your friends! Inspired by the great names that went before us such as Mario Party, Wii Party and Little Big Planet, it’s safe to say that social games are here to stay. Instead of one storyline a player has to complete, Forgotten Playland is built to continuously increase over time with new minigames.

Players navigate the Plushies through a series of imaginative and competitive minigames, set within the creatively repurposed confines of the attic. Each minigame showcases the Plushies' competitive spirit and challenges the player to stand above the crowd. As of today, there are two minigames that we can reveal – Bump-A-Ball and Jungle Rumble.

Bump-A-Ball

Bump-A-Ball is one of the inaugural minigames introduced in Forgotten Playland. Players engage in an exhilarating contest with 2 to 4 players, in which they try to knock each other off a wooden table platform. The platform evolves as saw blades gradually cut it down; shrinking the space and amplifying the difficulty. Players must skilfully balance offensive and defensive tactics, with the goal of being the last one standing amidst the intense competition.

Jungle Rumble

Jungle Rumble is another thrilling minigame introduced in the first release of Forgotten Playland! Players navigate a vibrant jungle-themed area, dodging obstacles - as well as each other - to become the last Plushie standing. The lively chaos of different obstacles creates an unpredictable adventure that intensifies every passing second.

Forgotten Playland is intentionally built in a way where we can always iterate fast and ship new games in relatively short timeframes. The core of the game should be steady and enjoyable, but we believe that new experiences keep players entertained, and not endless refinement of what’s already there.

Upon release, Forgotten Playland will launch with Bump-A-Ball and Jungle Rumble but there are dozens of other minigames that are already being actively worked on. There’s no limit to the number of games that can be played in the attic as the Plushies imagination can’t be contained.

Enter Forgotten Playland

It was March 2023 when the founders of Merit Circle stumbled upon a passionate group of seasoned game developers. Eagerly wandering around for the latest in gaming, they had a burning desire to pick up their tools once again, and release a new title. Hearing this, and realizing the gaps in the current gaming landscape that were left unexplored, an idea was born.

The conversations continued and intensified as the idea of a playground for abandoned toys came to be. Inspired as they were, the team of game developers immediately took it upon themselves to create a first build of the game. Later that year, on May 19th, a first playable version of the game was displayed during the Merit Circle DAO’s community event in Amsterdam.

Overwhelmed by the response from the community who had their first go at the game, we soon realized the potential of Forgotten Playland. Instead of overcomplicating the release of a game and continuously iterating tiny details, we felt that small minigames would make much more impact. Brief experiences where you can challenge yourself, and more importantly, your friends.

Forgotten Playland will release in the first quarter of 2024 with a range of minigames. Bump-A-Ball and Jungle Rumble are currently confirmed, but more games are already in development.

Fuel for greatness

We’ve been fortunate to be born out of an idea by both a veteran gaming studio, and a team with seasoned experience within the blockchain space. This combination grants us a team of skilled game developers, smart contract engineers and an extensive network within the gaming, and web3 industry. As displayed in the closure of this funding round, we currently have a powerful network to tap into.

The attraction of talent is an ongoing process that will never truly be done.
