For context, the blog presents my thoughts after participating in the launch of $BORED token, through a crowdfund (boredcaster on party.app) administered by @boredelonmusk (@bored on farcaster), and written 12 hours after the token launch. It was a very successful crowdfund raising 1,562 ETH.

This article by no means offers investment advice - and more so, I see a lot of parallels to DAOs in the new generation farcaster-native memecoins making it a fitting topic for this blog.

This message was originally shared on a group chat called 'Onchain Rookies' an enthusiastic degen sub-collective within FBI (Farcaster Builders India).

With that out of the way, here goes:

Only read if you are bored. There's no alpha here, no technical expertise, just initial impressions, and memecoin gossip if I may:

• boredelon is a credible founder - unlikely to rug

• Early entry opportunity on Party DAO

• Potential for quick profit - 2x, maybe 5x (why not hope $$)

• FOMO?

  

• If one wants to dabble with memecoins, now happens to be the best time, as it's all the rage right now

• Party crowdfund seems to be a safe way to get involved without tampering one's reputation if things go south, being that it's pretty decentralized

• Exploring the meme potential of his 'BORED' brand (is it getting old btw?). The project is currently positioned as Anti-Memecoin Memecoin

• It was a huge success! with many people seeing the promise of the opportunity and diving in. Having raised 1562 eth, it also might have been the biggest crowdfund in Party DAO history.

• While boredelon is not actively shilling the project on his socials, he is the administrator of the DAO and probably /boredcaster farcaster channel. Likely, well invested too.

• So far it looks like most people participating are here to cash in on the eth raised and enjoy the memecoin, not the meme. (Is that the case with all memecoins?)

• It launched yesterday, and those who were monitoring had the opportunity to sell at a higher price. The ATH so far was around 70%, but it remained around 30% higher for a while.

  

• From the Party DAO chat, it looked like most people started selling immediately at the start, and got a decent exit

• Later, it dropped to -30% (loss), and on average it's been in that range for the rest of the day. Now, it's back to the original buy price and on its way higher as of this writing.

• If you bought, how did you react to the launch so far: Hold / Sell / Sell some / Buy more?

• Any reflections on your trade? If you sold at a loss, do you regret buying in the first place, or what would you do differently?

• If you're holding, what's your plan? Do you have a goal to sell, or are you waiting to see where this goes?

• Too early to tell, but not promising at the moment as the community seems to be just waiting for number go up.

• Does the meme have potential like $higher, $enjoy, etc: Probably not - but if the community steps up, I think there's a chance. Also, boredelon is surely smart, farcaster native and gets the meta (sidenote: are $higher and $enjoy in a different league already?)

• What's the meme: read here, or participate here.

• Will boredelon's popularity attract more mainstream participation like the crowdfund did? I think it can, but we'll have to wait and see.

• How about in the future, like 2 months from now - Is this gonna be a forgotten story? Any chance it's the center of discussion like $mog, or just a bored old memecoin?

• From a technical standpoint, how do we foresee it's performance now that the token has launched?

• Wot else?

The story dates back to 2021, when David Horvath, a renowned American Illustrator and comic artist known for his work on Ugly Dolls and Bossy Bear, along with his partner Sun-Min Kim created the UMA NO COPYRIGHT NFT, and released it as the cc0 first character-based NFT ever created, essentially inspiring a generation of onchain artwork in the public domain, with a direct link to the creation of Nouns, and even Prop House.

Last week, I had a conversation with matas about the life and journey of The UMA DAO, and this blog makes up some of that research. All of the quoted text that follow are excerpts from the livestream, said by @matascup (Aka. matas).

In May 2021, David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, launched UMA NO COPYRIGHT, making it available for the public domain.

"UMA marked a significant shift for me in the NFT space as it was the first cc0 NFT available at the time."

This was before Nouns, and way before cc0 NFTs were a thing. One of the co-founders of Nouns, 4156, found cc0 intriguing (later, leading to the inception of Nouns). He purchased two original UMAs and initiated a Twitter contest, encouraging people to pitch small business ideas or projects around UMA, that fit in a single tweet, and offering 1 eth and one of the UMAs to 2 of the winners he'd select (no prizes for guessing what inspired the Nouns Prop House).

".. and that really marked my switch from just a collector to somebody who wants to improve the space, create things, and for whom these NFTs are not just items to trade or fill your bag with. Especially with cc0 NFTs, they're like a blank canvas, an invitation for anyone to create whatever they like. It's a beautiful concept because it encourages everyone who sees them to become a builder, to create something cool."

Ever since, Matas has also built TOAD DAO and griftshop.xyz, on top of other renowned cc0 NFT projects. In his website, he writes: Because CC0 is meant to be built on.

I can't help but feel excited about the growth of cc0 NFT projects in the space. To me, the four main players in this area are UMA, CrypToadz, Nouns, and XCOPY's art. These projects, with their public domain art, have created a vibrant ecosystem that beckons to the curious and hungry, inviting them to build and innovate on top of the existing foundations. ~ mumke.com

"I think UMA started with my desire for this UMA IP, this UMA art, for things to be created with it. By this time, Nouns were a thing, and I saw all these really cool cc0 projects and how they inspire people. I made some UMA stuff just for the love of it, and my wish was to somehow create an incentive for others to co-create in this entire UMA universe."

On April 9, 2022, matas started the UMA DAO server. Here's an early message describing the thinking:

"You have this IP created by people who have created huge characters that are on Nickelodeon. And here, they have gifted you more or less this character that you can co-create with them. I think that's the coolest stuff."

As a frequent on Prop House, I tend to assume that everybody in DAO space know what Prop House is, but that is far from the case. Prop House is an extremely interesting invention from the Nouns community, stewarded by one of the nounders (founder of Nouns), Seneca.

Prop House is an experimental approach for communities to deploy capital. Through funding rounds, communities auction off fixed amounts of capital to builders with the best ideas. ~ prop.house/faq

UMA DAO started with just a discord and no website. Matas envisioned a community-driven space where contributors could express ideas and holders would allocate resources. He initially thought people would go into discord, express what they want to do, and holders would allocate something. However, this approach didn't work, and realized that Prop House, which was early then, would be ideal.

"Prop House is a unique platform within NFT communities, almost like gamified democracy. It allows contributors and builders to pitch ideas, and a select group of voters, usually NFT holders, decide on the top proposals."

He explained his vision to Seneca who runs Prop House, and then, voila. Enter. UMA House.

Fun fact: UMA House on Prop House takes the crown for the highest number of Prop House rounds, across the platform, with Nouns in the second place with 48 rounds.

The UMA DAO NFTs is a PFP collection derivative off the origianal UMA NO COPYRIGHT, with custom traits, new visuals, and smart contract created and deployed by matas. The initial distribution of UMA tokens were done by matas, of 45 self-selected holders, from a snapshot of the holders of the original UMA NO COPYRIGHT NFT, and few contributors from the early UMA DAO community. This formed the governing body to kick off the DAO.

The prop house rounds have invited a lot of creativity and all sorts of ideas into the ecosystem.

This project is operated by matas alone. Yes, there are a number of contributors building on the UMA brand and broad support from prop house team and everything, but the day-to-day tasks of administering the Prop House rounds, handling Twitter, moderating discord, and essentially steering the project forward are solely managed by one individual, who created the project 🤯

"I think there's a lot of innovation to be done in the web3 space, and UMA DAO is one attempt of mine at doing that."

However, my mission remains to help propagate ways for others to get exposed to various careers and potentially identify work they'd enjoy doing. Following is a thesis for a proposed solution for said mission, and I am working on bringing it to life. I have submitted it to Nouns Prop House Garden Round, and you can read it below.

Too often, we witness seasoned professionals navigating through careers that leave them unfulfilled and yearning for more. Their jobs and career paths are often dictated by early educational and professional choices, leading to a continuous cycle of unfulfilling careers, stifling their true passions and potential.

In this proposal, I would like to present my blueprint for a transformative approach to career exploration, through a strategically designed IRL + onchain journey focused on a singular mission of career enlightenment.

A global network of creatively engaged communities within schools, united by a shared interest in career exploration. A community built 1-school at a time and scaled through a cc0 blueprint that includes an event franchise, high quality media, NFTs, and Prop House. A onchain savvy community that treats and uses blockchain as they do the internet through the culture inculcated by whoneedajob.⌐◨-◨

Career days are events held at schools where students get to learn about different careers from professionals. It is a practice in some parts of the world, but where I am from in India, it isn't. The plan is to conceptualize an event format, organized in schools, by whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨, and build excellence around it.

In phase 1, the goal is to:

• start the exercise - identify schools, propose the plan, figure out the execution. Introduce this event as a pilot experiment in 4-5 schools, and build resources and expertise in organizing it effectively.

• understand the logistics and operational cost for coordinating a team of 3 (including myself, a videographer, and event coordinator), to travel to schools in different cities.

• document learnings as individuals entering a new territory and pretty much starting from ground zero.

The career days event presents opportunity to capture beautiful stories about - a) schools, and b) professions within school networks, such as parents of the students. But more importantly, they act as a means for proliferating the movement by providing an event template and potential source of inspiration for replicating the concept as work in the public domain.

As a humble indie documentary creator myself, I am optimistic about the prospect of creating extremely interesting content from these events.

In phase 1, the goal is to:

• get creative, and identify storytelling format for this IP.

• assess the feasibility and workflow of producing documentaries for each school/event held and the frequency of organizing events based on that.

Ps. The content will be hosted on a new channel called Who Needs A Job, and not on Salman Needs A Job (obviously).

(note: event participants are not expected to have any knowledge of web3, nor hold any crypto)

For every Career Days event, we create a POAP issued to event attendees, which they will be able to mint using their email ID. All participants are most likely going to be absolute crypto newbies, and POAP provides a great gateway to a pre-wallet experience. As a next step, they will be required to set up their wallet if they wish to participate in a School Level Prop House Round that follows the career day event.

In phase 1, the goal is to:

• come up with artwork for each school event POAP.

• devise a process for administering the POAP to students (it may be straight forward, but POAP administration often is not straight forward, and also involves a cost nowadays)

• clearly communicate to students what POAPs represents and how it will be used for the upcoming contest/prop house round.

• provide guidance for setting up a wallet and rudimentary web3 knowledge like safety practices (TBD)

Prop House is central to this entire project and will be used for post-event onchain engagement and community building.

Starts with the POAP - once the POAPs have been disbursed, the snapshot of the event attendees/students who participated becomes available for us to use. The plan is to organize a prop house round of a fun whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ content RFP, only for holders of the POAP. Likewise, winners will be selected/governed by holders of the POAP, essentially establishing a minimum viable DAO, and proving utility for minting the POAP.

In phase 1, the goal is to:

• create whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ house on prop house.

• come up with the contest/request for proposal in a manner that is easy and accessible to anyone who wants to participate.

• train the students to propose, and to vote.

• create meaningful NFT rewards for participation (all submissions, and potentially voters), and IRL redeemable gifts for winners, making participation highly desirable.

• (perhaps in phase 2) - pilot experiment using 1, 2, 3, and 4, to select stewards and engage more schools to participate in this movement.

Well, discord, and everything else that happens there.

In phase 1, the goal is to:

• setup discord and make it useful

whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ at its core will be built on the nouns infrastructure and values. How:

• This project intends to do good for the younger generation to become more informed about their future careers, without expectation of return.

• One of the expected outcomes of whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ is a rich onchain footprint primarily through NFTs claimed via Prop Houses. This is a new generation getting involved with NFTs, not for financial reasons, but for reputation. These NFTs will be nounish af (brand-wise), and spread the nouns “meme” ⌐◨-◨

• This movement will create and proliferate cc0 content about the world of work, through documentaries from schools, community-generated content through prop houses, and a program intentionally crafted for the public domain - accessible for anyone to engage with or replicate.

• whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ will follow the nouns visual brand and proliferate the noggles in completely new ways.

• This project will leverage existing nouns cc0 assets and open-source infrastructure. I would like for my personal work to be a testament to this, where I have plenty of examples showing how I've leveraged - cc0 music, 3d nouns, nouns sounds (1, 2), Lil Nouns playground, created a cc0 powered movie around The Noun Square and Let's Play Lil Nouns, and messed around with a whole lotta noggles.

• whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ in itself is a meme that embraces absurdity, and hopes to create positive externalities in the lives and careers of those part of it.

• NFTs will play a central role in this project, serving as tools for accreditation, incentive mechanism, and play.

• As part of the prop house rounds, students will be encouraged to mint their work, which is made possible through Zora's recent creator-friendly update transferring the initial gas cost to the first minter. This will enable students to potentially onramp their first crypto through protocol rewards.

• One of the primary goals of whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ is to encourage participants to get onchain through minting / earning NFTs and participating in DAOs. It is meant to be accessible universally without the expectation of understanding the technicalities of blockchain or crypto.

Salman Needs A Job started on YouTube as my personal journey to find career enlightenment. Over the years, I've profiled various careers through podcasts, from scriptwriter to magician to coconut plucker to startup founder, etc. I've also developed an interest in creating documentaries and have a few that I'm proud of, most relevant here, is one about an innovative talent onboarding initiative by the local city police that I filmed at a school.

This journey led me to discover DAOs, and I've been extremely interested in web3 ever since. I sometimes write on fulltimedao.com and spend much of my time contributing to the space through various communities I'm a part of.

In the Full Time DAO series, our objective is to distill the wisdom acquired from the unique journeys of individual DAOs. This piece is structured into three segments, each dedicated to a particular DAO:

1. PubDAO - a media collective built around a content-as-a-service model.

2. Lobby3 - a decentralized advocacy organization

3. JournoDAO - a network of journalists seeking to incubate web3 innovations to support a healthier media landscape.

Spencers involvement in PubDAO began after discovering the DAO through a decrypt article. He gradually became more active in the discord community and eventually took on administrative roles and became a core contributor in the DAO.

PubDAO focused on creating a decentralized platform for content creation and publication. Contributors served as writers, and the project's scope expanded to define various roles, onboard community members, and connect them with opportunities to write articles for clients.

One significant lesson Spencer learned from his involvement with DAOs, including PubDAO, is the challenge of maintaining an active group of contributors. Many early projects tend to involve discussion and ideation, making it challenging to retain contributors who volunteer their time often without compensation.

Spencer also noted the importance of looking beyond superficial indicators of community engagement. While Discord channels might appear active due to discussions or memes, real productivity could be happening elsewhere, possibly within a core team's smaller group. Measuring the health and activity of a project is not solely based on external appearances.

PubDAO is currently inactive. PubDAO did not have a token and the project was co-managed by a centralized team from decrypt.

Lobby3, a nonprofit on-chain organization, established itself as a unique platform that aimed to bridge the gap between civics and emerging technologies. With an initial base of more than 800 token holders, Lobby3 engaged in various governance activities. This advocacy DAO was founded with the involvement of notable figures like Andrew Yang and his former campaign team, who envisioned leveraging Web3 principles to bring a new perspective to policy making and advocacy in Washington, D.C. While the DAO had promising objectives, it also faced several governance challenges related to identity verification and compliance in the lobbying space. The compensation model for contributors relied on retroactive proposals, highlighting the complexities of DAO governance and payment structures.

Lobby3 DAO encountered several legal challenges throughout its journey. Spencer highlighted the complexities arising from foreign nationals' involvement in US lobbying efforts, particularly concerning regulatory issues and the contributions of non-US nationals. Spencer explained the DAO's efforts to address these challenges by exploring solutions like zero-knowledge identity verification, using zero-knowledge proofs to verify participants' nationalities while maintaining their privacy. These insights underline the intricate legal matters faced by DAOs in their efforts to operate within regulatory frameworks and their attempts to strike a balance between decentralization and compliance.

Spencer's journey with Lobby3 exposed him to the complexities of systems design, as he got more involved in crafting governance systems within decentralized organizations. This entailed designing structured processes for decision-making, defining protocols for proposing and implementing changes, and laying the groundwork for coherent decision frameworks. Alongside this, Spencer recognized the pivotal role of comprehensive documentation. Through his experiences, he learned that extensive and well-structured documentation was a fundamental aspect of transparent and effective DAO operations. It served as a knowledge repository, providing guidance to members seeking to navigate the DAO.

JournoDAO

JournoDAO is an incubator for projects that transform and rethink the journalism ecosystem.

JournoDAO, founded by journalist Eric Mack (and Spencer as a fellow founding member), serves as an incubator for projects aiming to reshape the journalism ecosystem. The idea behind JournoDAO germinated in the PubDAO discord server, where individuals shared a mutual interest in web3 technology's transformative potential for publishing. As PubDAO's focus leaned more towards marketing content, there arose a distinct interest in exploring the unique questions and curiosities related to journalism. Eric Mack initiated the JournoDAO server, forming a community of people keen on the intersection of web3 and journalism. Over two years, this community evolved into the JournoDAO core team.

JournoDAO operates as a small, dedicated group of individuals passionately discussing how journalism can benefit from web3 technologies. JournoDAO has been instrumental in bridging the gap between web3 and journalism, acting as a liaison at journalism conferences and helping educate mainstream audiences about the potential of this technology.

Recently, JournoDAO has been working on creating an indexing system for content, especially journalism. They've collaborated with Ethereum Attestation Service to develop a system where journalists and content creators can securely publish their work to censorship-resistant storage layers. This method not only ensures the longevity of the content but also opens up possibilities for content authentication, enabling verification of the author's identity and more. This approach aims to make the publishing process straightforward, cost-effective, and censorship-resistant.

The journey of JournoDAO has been characterized by a substantial amount of thinking, ideation, and analysis about how this technology can address the challenges faced by the journalism industry.

When asked about Spencer's views on future of DAOs, he feels optimistic, recognizing their unique characteristics, emphasizing the potential of blockchain technology to bring transparency and decentralization to industries like journalism. In his view, DAOs represent a motivated community, resilient even in bear market conditions, working to address fundamental coordination problems. This optimism extends to exploring innovative use cases for DAOs, such as the concept of a blockchain-based Chamber of Commerce. His perspective aligns with the belief that DAOs have the potential to reshape organizational structures and promote transparency across various domains, reflecting the broader sentiment within the DAO ecosystem.

• Your delegate cannot transfer your Lil Noun NFT or sell it on your behalf.

• Your delegate can only vote on proposals that are open for voting.

Once you have chosen a delegate, you can delegate your Lil Nouns NFT by following these steps

3. Click on the "Delegate" tab.

4. Your current delegate will be assigned to yourself, in which case, click on "Update Delegate"

Delegating your Lil Nouns NFT is a great way to ensure that your vote is used to support the proposals that you believe in, even if you don't have the time or expertise to vote on every proposal yourself. It is also a great way to support delegates who are aligned with your values and who you believe will make good decisions on behalf of the Lil Nouns DAO community.

Web3 embodies the transformative power to shape a more accessible and fair digital future. For example, DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations) are a new type of organization that is powered by Web3 technology, owned and governed by their members, presenting the opportunity to foster entirely new types of businesses and economies.

Ever since learning about DAOs, I have been neck deep into this space, and it has shown me the potential of decentralized organizations. It is among the many first-hand experiences that have helped solidify my belief in the power of Web3. I know that many of my peers feel the same way.

Yet, the uncertain stance of several national administrations poses a challenge to the movement's future. Can we rally together and implore our policymakers to embrace this future, enacting clear regulations for crypto's prosperity:

Now that the round has concluded and so are most of the community activities around the cohort, I wanted to commemorate this event and our achievements of making it to this round. It is a little experiment in onchain reputation and potential governance mechanism based on reputation, and I am calling it - Reputation Drops. Here's the details:

I am Salman, one of the participants in Nouns Hack Week, during which I submitted part 1 of thebiggestlilmovie.wtf and a Nounish POAP tour on the content creation round by The Noun Square.

When I first discovered about Nouns Hack Week, I started brainstorming what my project for the round would be. My initial thought was - would it be possible to trace the journey of Nouns DAO through POAPs? I dropped in with a message on Explorer Grants (hack week organizers) discord server:

I got two answers.

1) I was going to create a POAP for Nouns Hack Week (still hadn't figured who should be minting it though), and the POAP itself wouldn't be my hack week submission

2) I was gonna do some research on Nouns POAPs, to identify the big idea for hack week

Dropped in on The Noun Square for "research" and it led me to @RobotFishGirl.

After a lil bit of back and forth on the TNS server with RFG, about her favorite POAPs, I slid into her dms and requested if we could get on a livestream. And, pretty soon, we did:

This was a fairly successful contest with 8 submissions. And a solid submission on TNS hack week round - a livestream + video clips contest. Unfortunately did not win this one, but, oh was I done with a project ✅

But, what was I going to submit for the main - Nouns Hack Week rounds? Well, April 1st was supposed to be a Polkadot India Conference. I was gonna attend and record podcasts for #SalmanNeedsAJob. In light of Nouns Hack Week, a lil change of plans. I planned to print out a few POAP cards of Prop Prop Prop POAPs, and then figure out a video around it.

And as they say, the rest is history:

The POAPs were initially given to people I met at the event, who knew about Nouns DAO and were expected to be featured in the video I was going to create. Sometime later, I came to a decision (rightly so) about the audience for the POAP, and that is going to be folks who participated in hack week, by submitting a prop or voted in any of the rounds.

gm DAOpunks. Welcome to part 5 of The Full-Time DAO Newsletter. It's one of those days where am a little short on time but I have a lot to say. So, LFG.

Last week, I took a break on account of the business ... oops. busyness covering India Blockchain Week, a feast of web3 events during the week of ETH India. Naturally, a lot of updates to report on, and we will get to that. But since today happens to be DAOpunks Cohort 1 finale, I thought I'll begin with some quick reflections on my journey so far. (will be doing part 6 next week as I missed the last one)

I have extensively documented my journey and thought processes through the last 6 weeks, from my motivations for working on the things I am working on, the ideas that I proposed to DAOpunks, and if you did follow along, the evolution of those ideas, associated priorities, and my action towards it. While all that is on the table and I am working on them, I wanna pinpoint to something that really hit the nail in the head during this cohort, which is the idea of staying accountable to DAOpunks through this simple act of writing every week.

What came out of this process is fulltimedao.com.

The idea called fulltimedao.com did not exist prior to me applying for the DAOpunks grant, heck, it did not even exist as I started out the cohort. In fact, in week 1 of my task to write a blog, Full-Time DAO was the name of a newsletter on LinkedIn that I wrote for DAOpunks, and through consecutive editions, I informed you of its developments through become fulltimedao.com and eventually going live with the project. The formation of the idea is fully documented in this very series.

While it may not be a completely new idea and it definitely encompasses what was proposed on my grants application, the act of setting up this project and writing about it in this newsletter has sharpened my sense of direction and unlocked a set of possibilities of things I can accomplish through this project. A name, as trivial as it may seem, almost feels like an answer to many of the questions that I have been seeking as I came into this cohort. How so?

Let's start with my livestream idea

To be honest, my struggle was not about launching a livestream series about DAOs. Kickstarting new episodes is something I can do immediately, and the concept is not all that new from what I already do. Through this cohort, however, I wanted to do something different, which is to build a foundation for a show that I could show up on and deliver consistently, and build leverage through the brand I create around it.

As someone who is turning 34 in a few days and has a child who's turning 1 in a few months, I do not have the privilege to be working on things simply on account of passion if it won't get me paid for it. Plus inconsistent effort on a brand called #SalmanNeedsAJob isn't going to get me there. Not to mention quite a number of other things I am currently involved with that needs to be taken into consideration and I am yet to figure out how. (read: the full-time DAOlemma).

Now, there is no better time for me to use the word - amalgamation, so I am gonna go for it. fulltimedao.com is an amalgamation of many of these considerations and a framework for me to start thinking about building a career around my interests in web 3. Using DAOpunks Digital License Agreement

When I first heard about the story of DAOpunks NFT from CryptoBushi and Livefast on the Crypto Sapiens Podcast, one of the things that really caught my attention is the DAOpunks Digital Licensing Agreement. As a passionate DAO contributor and NFT enthusiast myself, I was intrigued by the idea of what you can do with the IP of an NFT that's proliferating the cause of decentralized work. Moreso, if it were to be used in the context of a media project. While it was not the primary motivation, it was an influencing factor in my buying the NFT.

In my application for the grants cohort, exploring using the DAOpunks Digital License Agreement was in fact one of my proposed deliverables. Initially, I was hoping to perhaps use the DAOpunks brand name in the creation of a show about DAOs, but realized that it was a little out of scope from the licensing agreement. In the eventual weeks as I started working on fulltimedao.com; there it was - voila. DAOpunk Anon #236 is going to be the star of the show - the mascot of fulltimedao.com.

Adding to that, the brand theme of fulltimedao.com as well is inspired by the NFT (colors).

How significant is this, I don't know. But I think it's cool. And there's definitely more to be explored on this front.

Addressing limitations of the name #SalmanNeedsAJob

Salman Needs A Job has gone from being the name of my YouTube channel to literally my pseudonym on the internet. It is my primary username on all my social accounts, it is my ENS, discord id, everything. It is an identity I have created and I happily embrace it.

However, I have found that there is a limitation when you have your name attached to the name of your brand, especially if it suggests that you need a job. The name makes it hard for people to take you seriously and associate/collaborate in an official capacity. It's not impossible, it's just hard, which is where Full-Time DAO comes in. A natural extension of #SalmanNeedsAJob whose job is now working full-time DAO - made official after winning the DAOpunks Grants :)

(I am very tempted to include the details about my project whoneedsajob.⌐◨-◨ here as it relates to this thinking on the naming convention, but we will save that for the next and final edition of the newsletter.).

In short, the genesis of the idea of fulltimedao.com owes its existence to the DAOpunks Grants and the act of writing I took up over the course of this cohort. I am very grateful for it and hope to make the best of it!

Weekly Update

Frens. The last couple of weeks has truly been a ride. I know I've been hyping up ETH India for some time now on this newsletter. Well let me assure you, it was definitely worth the hype. Over the last 2 weeks, a lot has happened, and I have been tweeting about it extensively. It's going to be hard to summarize it, so I'll try to give a chronological update with supporting tweets or screenshots of the activities to date.

Team: In the last newsletter, I mentioned that I am looking for a couple of immediate hires prior to getting started with the week of ETH India. (1) YouTube Content Management Intern and (2) YouTube Shorts Creator (bountied contributor). I am happy to report that I have found and started working with both of them. Examples of their work - 1, 2.

Crowdfunding: Juicebox is ready to go. All the settings have been established and will be live as soon as the first video from India Blockchain Week videos goes live.

ETH India podcasts: 14 recorded, will be published 1 a week during upcoming weeks.

Real-time coverage on Twitter: During the last couple of weeks, I did something that I have not done before, which is tweet infinite times a day. The idea was to do real-time coverage of India Blockchain Week from my perspective. That meant, lots of tweets, lots of shitposting, lots of pictures, lots of videos, and more.

India Blockchain Week POAP:

One of the more interesting things I did last week is create a POAP for India Blockchain Week, representing the 50 or more side events that were taking place across the city during the week. I also printed the physical POAP card with a QR code, which upon scanning leads to fulltimedao.com/ibc22-poap asking folks to follow a series of steps to get the POAP, which is basically to subscribe to fulltimedao.com. I must say, it was quite a wonderful campaign which got some press as well, and it was minted by none other than Sandeep Nailwal, who's the founder of Polygon.

Got featured in a popular Crypto Newsletter from India called Doodhwala, telling the story of the POAP. Definitely the highlight of the week, right after Sandeep's minting my POAP. read here

And most important of all, met many of my frens from BanklessDAO and some common web3 communities we are part of, finally IRL. How amazing.

Over the next few weeks, I am going to be very much focused on the campaign around the content from India Blockchain Week. It is going to be quite a bit of work, and I have some interesting activities in store which is probably nothing. The livestream is not going live just yet, but the foundations of it are being laid right now through the development of a team and building the Full-Time DAO brand.

While it is the cohort finale week this week, I will be coming back with one more edition of the newsletter to close out the 6-part series. A heartfelt appreciation to the DAOpunks community for giving me the grant and motivating me to pursue my dream of full-time DAO. And my gratitude to fellow cohort mates, Tyler and cryptovinci from TradFi to DeFi and Jomari from FiHub for sailing through this journey together.

In the last 3 editions of the newsletter, we have gotten into the DAOpunks grants story, my proposal to DAOpunks, new priorities for growth and brand building, pursuit for monetization, and then I laid out a premise for a little project called fulltimedao.com. Today, finally, we're gonna get into the project - fulltimedao.com - the why, the what, and the how?

Before we get into all of that, I wanna tell you a story. Just kidding. No story. This will be a quick one. Let's get to it:

WHAT

As I am still workshopping this idea, here are 3 versions of possible mission statements for the project. Would love to hear your feedback on them in the comments or dms.

Version 1:

fulltimedao.com aims to become a trusted resource for web3 enthusiasts and veteran DAO contributors alike to help onboard them to full-time DAO work.

Version 2:

fulltimedao.com will help you navigate the DAO ecosystem through in-depth DAO walkthroughs with DAO operators and conversations with everyday DAO contributors.

Version 3:

fulltimedao.com aims to onboard the next 10k web3 enthusiasts to Full-Time DAO work.

WHY

DAOs are many, and each have a unique mission and vision, methods of operating, governance and coordination, among others. DAO contributors on the other hand are few, and offer a lot to learn from. This presents an opportunity to provide potential contributors with in-depth media resource analyzing inner workings of a DAO and making it easy to navigate what is otherwise complex digital organizations.

On a personal front, as a DAO contributor myself, I am able to appreciate this new world that represents the future of work, and as well identify the challenges new contributors face getting involved in DAOs. I aspire to use my skills in content, and my interest and network in web3, to create an entity called fulltimedao.com

This also plays well with the work I have been doing with #SalmanNeedsAJob where I cover the world of work in web3, and it allows me to consolidate the content into a web presence through fulltimedao.com, essentially elevating the brand and adding further value to guests on the show.

Not to mention, it also allows me to leverage the DAOpunks Digital Asset Ownership License and begin to use my DAOpunks NFT in extremely creative ways (see logo of FTD).

HOW

The answer to this is three folds, that include content, community, and team.

1. Content

1.1 A livestream series about DAOs called the ~ The Full Time DAO Show. It is exactly the idea I have described before on the DAOpunks grants proposal, only difference being that while the show is on the #SalmanNeedsAJob YouTube, it will be called The Full-Time DAO Show, and will have a presence on fulltimedao.com. The Full-Time DAO Show will feature in-depth discussions about a particular DAO or web3 community on each episode, and cover everything about how they operate, and how to get involved. example.

1.2 A (text-based) AMA series with everyday DAO contributors, conducted async and presented as a newsletter. The newsletter will feature stories from the work life of everyday DAO contributors, and seeks to learn about all the ways people are adding value to DAOs, their experiences in the space, and lessons for other new and veteran contributors to take away.

1.3 IRL interviews about projects, people in web3 (what you already find on my channel).

2. Community

This is a difficult one. I am someone who benefits from the communities I am part of, however, I haven't been successful in creating one so far. While I do see the opportunity to create a community around the niche of DAO work, I'd like to tread lightly with this one. Ideas so far:

2.1 Conducting the AMAs for written interviews on a public telegram group chat (so other members on the chat can ask as well)

2.2 Actively using POAPs to engage all the participants on the livestreams and AMAs, which are guests, listeners, and members who ask questions.

3. Team

Until now, all the content on my channel (apart from the last 5 videos) has been fully created and produced by myself. I have wanted to change that and have started working with editors on my recent videos. However, in order to really scale the impact of my work, I would need to stop doing everything myself and ideally create a team to support in creating and promoting the content. I am considering doing this with a team of interns and bounties / contributors to begin with, and explore possibility of a cohort based contributorship model as a way for folks to get involved and get (soul-bound) accredited on a "web3 media project called Full-Time DAO".

Here's the team I would like to develop, with 1-3 being an immediate requirement:

1. Podcast editor (for IRL podcasts) - bounty / contributors

2. YouTube Shorts Creator - bounty

3. YouTube Content Manager (production help and publishing) - Intern

4. Writing & Social Media for @fulltimedao - Intern

5. Designer (POAPs and more) - TBD

I hope this gives a picture on what I am set out to do with fulltimedao.com. While all of these are ideas, I believe it is essential to document them and serve as a reference for the project. What is left is for me to start executing on these ideas. Where do I stand with that? Let's find out:

My weekly update

First a quick updates on what I've outlined above:

• Full-Time DAO text-based AMA: I have setup a telegram and have begun working on it. Currently midway through the first AMA, and trying to figure out a structure and assess if the async model is a good idea. So far it seems like it.

• Team - my initial experience working with a freelancer for YouTube shorts (which I mentioned on FTD part 2) was not particularly fruitful. I am looking to find someone new for this task.

• Team - I have created a job description for Content Management intern and have started floating it around with a few frens. This is an immediate priority that I want to have someone onboarded in the next few days. As a next step, I will post it as a job requirement in some relevant places.

Other updates:

• Sponsorship: I have reached out to a few more potential sponsors and made strides on the sponsorship front for my ETH India series, with a very small score on that. However, there's not been any breakthroughs yet. At this time, I am rather keen on taking the web3 native crowdfunding route for it.

• Crowdfunding: Juicebox is a web3 native crowdfunding platform. I have recently had a call with the team from juicebox and I feel confident that I will set it up in the next few days (prior to ETH India). I am curious to find out how this plays out.

• Website: Last week, I went live with fulltimedao.com. I am going to be adding the FTD newsletter from LinkedIn to the website once I publish this one.

• Grants: I have applied for a grant on Push Protocol as a content partnership for ETH India series. However, it is improbable to make it through on time before ETH India, so that's a lost cause (for now).

• ETH India: I have started scheduling guests for podasts during ETH India - and have a confirmed line up that consist of DAO founder, web3 VC, Dev Rel at a web3 protocol, Business Development at a web3 protocol, Founder of a prominent web3 company. Well, it's going to be an interesting series.

• Making Bank Podcast: I just recorded an interview (first time as a guest) yesterday on the Making Bank Podcast, a podcast about BanklessDAO by BanklessDAO, hosted by my fren and fellow DAOpunk Droste. I am very happy with the conversation, and did speak about my DAOpunks grant too. So, that's to be expected.

What does it really mean to go full-time DAO? Sounds fancy, sure. But is it though? Let's answer that.

While I am all for contributing to DAOs, and I am happy to vouch for the communities I am part of, it is undeniable that the Full-Time DAO dream isn't an easy pursuit and perhaps not even feasible for most people. However, it is also a fact that now is as good a time as any to work towards going full-time DAO.

In today's newsletter, I am going to suggest some arguments against full-time DAO, and of course, in the latter half, give my DAOpunks weekly report on where I stand in the journey (feel free to skip straight to that if that's what you're here for - it's in the "Why am I telling you all this" section).

Yesterday, on Nov 18, BanklessDAO launched the 3rd edition of the Writers Cohort. It's a 4-week cohort-based writing program that is open to all bDAO members for free. The program has raving reviews from past participants and is known to help clarify your thinking, improve your writing, and push you to publish articles every week. The program is also known to have some members not be able to deliver on the expectation to publish 4 weekly articles, and at times give up much sooner. While this maybe a common trait in all such programs, I mention it because I am attributing the reason to the 100 other things you will find DAO contributors to be working on, and understandably fail to commit to a voluntary deliverable like this.

Do I wanna join the Writers Cohort? - hell yeah. But do I have the time to take up another new commitment at the moment? Well I am not happy to admit it, but the answer is a no.

Similarly, a couple of months back, I missed out on another cohort-based program called a Governance Accelerator Cohort, which had I taken, I would really benefit from, however, had to pass given the time commitment needed to see that through.

One might wonder what seems to be the hold-up here. What is going on in my life that I am having to pass on what looks like extremely valuable skill-building opportunities? Well, this is the time I tell you about the things I am working on - not going to type it from scratch, but through sharing screenshots of an elaborate introduction message on a discord server not too far away.

While these messages make me look cool, sure why not, what I am actually trying to convey to you is that - a lot is going on for a lot of people in the space, frens. It's crazy, and it's amazing! And burnout, how real is that?

Well, very much turns out. Burnout in DAOs are so real that there are case studies of high performing contributors giving up on DAO life or taking a break due to it. There are web3 projects and DAOs as well providing aid for this, might I say potential epidemic (nope, went too far).

Here's the thing - DAOs are too interesting, and if you wanna get involved in any aspects of it, YOU CAN. And while that is great, and exactly what I love about DAOs, it is also what leads to a situation where you are biting off more than you can chew, and that's the DAOlemma many of us find ourselves faced with today.

Echoing above. If actively seeking income then gotta get paid in USD equivalent at least 50% of your time. That was the point where I was actually able to justify being full-time DAO via a stable monthly budget. If investing, then time = money.

Everything mentioned above are challenges on the pursuit to full-time DAO. How about at the beginnings of the journey? What are the challenges then? In DAOpunks cohort 1 applications, one of the applicants Sprinklesforwinners outlines her experience onboarding herself into web3, and how she made her way into DAOs:

"This is my second attempt at going web3 full time. The first time, I became so lost and discouraged that I gave up. A few months after returning to the day to day monotony, I remained unhappy, which lead me to again consider web3 opportunities. I am sure others have a similar path. Redefining determination as my personal goal, I completely immersed myself within the DAOs, I organically landed at banklessDAO. I have completely immersed myself within the DAO, in some areas being a disruptive force. I have experienced blockers obstacles and hurdles, however constructively pushed through these barriers to pursue the goal(s) of the project"

How interesting that she pushed through and finds herself able to inspire others to do it as well.

because I think it's interesting. DAOs are new to most people on the planet. Every day, there's probably somebody who's joining a discord server lurking through the #getinvolved channels and making a choice whether to ever return to the server.

Then there are others who are a little too deep in the journey, conviced that this is the path for them, but struggling to make it.

And there are those, who are leading the way, kickstarting decentralized teams and projects, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and showing us how to DAO.

Where is all this information captured? Answer: All over the place.

I hope to pick up some of the bits and pieces of that and find meaning and structure as I present it to you on fulltimedao.com. Well, that's kind of my update for this week. So, subscribe, and stay tuned my frens.

In the last newsletter, I spoke about my monetization efforts - there has been progress. I have begun communication on sponsorship with a few people and projects. The interest in sponsoring my content is positive, but nothing has materialized yet. I am as well considering going purely a Juicebox route for the ETH India series to explore a web3 native way to fund the project.

Apart from that, I have submitted a grant proposal to Push Protocol, for a content partnership on the ETH India series, although the timelines for pushing a forum proposal and a snapshot are against me on this, still keeping my fingers crossed.

As you can see, I have setup the domain - fulltimedao.com, secured the ENS, the .xyz domain, and some social handles, and created the salmanneedajob at fulltimedao.com email. The website as well on paragraph.xyz is live and kicking which I am excited about (paid for the custom domain using crypto, woohoo #gobankless). Have started brainstorming on what I intend to do with the project, a lot of which you can read on the DAOpunks grants proposal.

I will be using my DAOpunks Anon 236 as a mascot for Full-Time DAO because the DAOpunks Digital Asset Ownership License allows that. Super exciting and a check on one of my commitments on my DAOpunks grants proposal!

Apart from that, I'd say it's life as usual. Hosted a twitter space on @0xTPH yesterday about building a successful NFT project (thereby delaying the publishing of this newsletter). I minted the historic SBF vs. Erik Voorhees debate podcast NFT from BanklessHQ and essentially got into a telegram group with Ryan and David. Unbelievable. Nothing more to add and I just hope to be able to justify in the future all of the work I am doing right now.

The next couple of weeks is going to be busy as I'll be traveling to Bangalore, India, for the ETH India conference. Hope to be able to keep up with this newsletter and stay accountable.

In last week's edition, we went over some surface-level information on what is web3, and what is is a DAO, which let me remind you again, stands for Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (digital orgs),. I gave you an outline about the DAOpunks NFT community and how they are supporting me in this transition to Full-Time DAO.

Today, I wanna delve into my plan itself, and report on where my head is currently at and what progress I have made so far.

Let's start with the second one, a reality check on what's happening right now.

Reality check

Today as I write this newsletter, the crypto industry is neck deep into new levels of the bear market, most recently caused by what looks like the demise of not just another, but the second largest crypto exchange in the world - FTX, founded by a celebrated entrepreneur Sam Bankman-Fried, who just apologized 3 times in a tweet thread that started with "I fucked up, and should have done better".

In the last 8 months, since I started contributing to DAOs and working in web3, the crypto markets have only continued to go progressively down hitting new lows every other day. As someone whose primary income is in the form of DAO governance tokens, I am not going to lie - this event has been a particularly difficult one to grapple with. While on a normal day, I do not look at the charts, and "continue to build in the bear", this crash and another all-time low have me questioning things. Is it going to get any better? Is it really worthwhile to continue to invest your career in web3 considering how fragile all of it seems to be, and the value of your time relative to the risks associated with working in this industry?

Well, I am not going to attempt to answer that, because the state of the markets or the speculation is really not in my control. I am here for what the technology underlying all this enables, and to be part of and contribute to the way work happens on the internet. If Balaji Srinivasan's idea of The Network State is going to be a reality, I am here to not just buy a ticket to the Network State, but to read the book, understand what its about, be part of and contribute to the communities that are building on the idea, and identify my place in it all. I refuse to be taken down by what Sam Bankman Friend does with his intelligence, or Elon Musk with his tweets. I'll admit that while it's nice to transact in crypto, that's not what I am here for. I am here for what the technology unlocks and all the enthusiasm and creativity web3 has brought to the world. Web3 is a revolution and I am here for it.

Okay. <takes a breath>. <drinks water>. LFG.

Now that we've sort of separated crypto from web3, let's get back to talking about DAOs on The Full-Time DAO Newsletter. If you've read FTD part 1, you probably know that this series originated as a documentation of my journey in cohort 1 of the DAOpunks grants program.

The Proposed Plan

In the program, I have proposed to DAOpunks community that I'll be working on following 3 ideas around #SalmanNeedsAJob:

1. Launch a livestream series about DAOs (status: brainstorming phase)

2. Explore how I can use DAOpunks Digital License Agreement (status: had an initial discussion with livefast9986.eth about scope of using the DAOpunks NFT as IP, and have some ideas that I have started to work on)

3. Create a roadmap for @whoneedsajobdao (status: brainstorming phase)

I am going to delve into these in detail in the upcoming newsletters as I make further progress on them. Let me now tell you about what I have been working on over the last week.

New Priorities

Broadly, the project #SalmanNeedsAJob could really benefit from the following initiatives, which have otherwise been ignored for far too long. What are they:

1. Monetization: Sponsorship - Juicebox (web3 crowdfunding)

2. Brand Building & Channel Growth: Shortform videos from podcasts - Website

I have started working on them. Below are the motivation for working on it, and the status update.

What's the motivation behind focusing on these new priorities

Well, the answer is ETH India.

The ETH Conferences are one of the most prominent conferences in web3, and attracts builders, enthusiasts, and web3 brands to participate from across the world. I am going to be attending the events surrounding ETH India, and expect to be recording tons of interviews with operators in the space. I am considering partnering with one sponsor for the entire series. I believe through these interviews, there is a unique opportunity for me to provide value to web3 companies who are trying to reach the ETH India attendees. In light of the fact that the conference is less than 3 weeks away, now would be the time for me to work on securing the sponsorship. That said, regardless of whether or not I close a sponsor, I am going to be recording podcasts at ETH India like I always do, and in fact many of them.

Status Update

On the Sponsorship front

I have currently prepared an offering and I am running it by frens in the space for feedback and potential interests. Below is what the placement will look like (if you are reading this, I would love to get your suggestions / feedback that come to mind as you read these):

• The logo of the sponsor will be placed throughout the video (like - sponsored by piedpiper.xyz)

• I will give a shoutout at the start during the episode intro, saying - this series is sponsored by piedpiper.xyz

• A 30s - 45s ad spot in the middle of the interview explaining the sponsored product which I'll speak about during the interview itself and showcase using screen overlays in the edit.

• A dedicated interview with the sponsorer explaining the product in-depth. This will be added as a card on YouTube in each video in the series during the ad read.

• Links to the product and the link to the dedicated YouTube video will be added in the description.

I am yet to figure out how much I should price it, but have some indications based on the discussions so far. If you have any feedback or you want to explore the partnership for your company, I am happy to connect and chat.

For reference, you can take a look at some of my past videos at web3 conferences on my channel.

Next step: Continue reaching out to frens for feedback, to potential leads, and the list of sponsors at ETH India. I absolutely want to see this through and have my first sponsor on the channel. This is going to add to the credibility as I launch the DAO livestream show as well.

What's this Juicebox thing

Juicebox is a web3 crowdfunding platform, which is essentially a no-code smart contract that you can set up to allow your subscribers/patrons to donate to you in crypto, and that you can program in sophisticated ways to do a bunch of things for the donor, as well as for your team. This was introduced to me by my mentor at BanklessDAO and fellow DAOpunk Ernest of Gaia, who is an ardent evangelist of the platform.

This week, I have gone through the platform along with Fine, who's a contributor in whoneedsajob community. We realized that there is still a lot of figuring out to do on how best to use the platfor for videos created on #SalmanNeedsAJob.

Next step: begin the conversation on the Juicebox discord server seeking consultation on setting up Juicebox campaign for the project.

Shortform Videos from Podcasts

It is no secret how effective shortform videos are almost on all platforms. So far, due to my limited bandwidth, I have never created shortform content out of my podcasts, but now with the grant from DAOpunks and the motivation to level up my project, I am seeking help from freelancers to begin working on the podcast. The idea is to create one or two YouTube shorts for all of my content going forward (and retroactively backwards), and use them across YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn video, Instagram Reels, and more importantly, Lenstube.

I have already made progress on this and I am about to finish working on the first YouTube shorts with a community member I met on the eDAO server.

Website: I wanna set up a website for #SalmanNeedsAJob, and begin to index my content on the web, establish an identity for the brand, and potentially provide value to the channel sponsor through a referral link in the website.

However, I don't feel very confident of being able to achieve this before ETH India. I would need to give this some thought and figure out what the next steps should be. If you have any ideas for me, please do pitch in.

Closing thoughts

This is more or less the status of what I have been upto, and what my priorities look like. Over the next weeks, I wanna do at least one DAO livestream before launching a show officially in order to test the waters and feed to the momentum. I would like that to be with DAOpunks itself, who have been doing such phenomenal work with the Grants Program, the Job board, and of course, their one-of-a-kind NFT collection.
