Crypto as asset is nice. It's fine. It's Wall Street 2.0, which makes me cranky. But, alright, let's have fun with it!

Crypto as cash, however, is what really matters.

Crypto as Asset is Limited

Crypto as asset is inherently limited:

• it's really only for the rich, and by "the rich", I mean the globally rich. So, not just the 1% in America but the 1% globally, which includes a lot of middle-class Europeans and North Americans.

• Crypto as asset is inherently trackable and seizable. Tokens tied to real-world assets (RWAs) can have their RWAs seized. Then the tokens become worthless.

Crypto as Cash is Almost Unlimited

Crypto as cash, on the other hand is:

• Anonymous; or at least pseudonymous. It's hard for anyone to know precisely who has which coins.

• Fungible. Coins are all the same!

• Censorship-resistant. When the coin sits on your key and you control the keys, it's very hard to stop you from transacting the coins with others.

• Hard to seize. Likewise, the value of a coin such as Bitcoin or ZCash is based on the scarcity and the network. Not on an underlying RWA that can be seized.

• Crosses borders as if they didn't exist. Crypto as cash does not see borders, nor does it fill out customs forms. It can obliterate the TradFi limitations that keep people poor across much of the globe.

Conclusion

Cash is what actually funds people's daily lives. As long as people's daily lives are in the hands of the fiat TradFi authorities, how will we sustain the revolution needed to facilitate prosperity for everyone everywhere?

It's that simple, and that hard.

Engage Rational Brain

OK, engaging my rational brain and setting the emotional one aside for a moment...

It is my own personal theory of the universe that people who are failures don't know it. They don't stress over it. They are happy where they are.

An even greater narrative is that no one is truly a failure until they give up.

And even then, you are not really a failure because at any moment you could stop giving up.

Life is dynamic like that. Which is why I always laugh a little when BTC maxis say "The market has decided!". As if that was a dictate handed down from God himself, etched in granite.

Everything is always changing. You can collapse to your knees one moment, ready to slit your own throat and let the squirrels eat your internal organs.

But the next you rise up.

And try again.

The Point

And that's really the point of this article.

Whenever you feel like a failure, just tell your brain to shut the hell up!

Turn that negative into something like this:

"OK, maybe I am a complete and total loser lost in my own delusions of grandeur. Yes, it is possible! Maybe even probable. I mean, all of my haters would certainly agree!"

"However, for now, just so we can tell God we tried with a straight face, let's just try this one little next step for the next 5 minutes. Just look at it, at least."

Just contemplate the path ahead for a sec. And push the negative thoughts aside.

Maybe placate them with a Starbucks Mocha or a Lindt chocolate bar.

And keep going!

People doing ground-level marketing and education projects frequently consult me for advice. They usually want to know how to keep their projects going.

They've seen that I've done successful projects like that for Dash and BCH.

My Advice

After a solid 4 years of doing that, my advice is simple:

Stop.

Here's why.

1. People in crypto don't value marketing. I've had people laugh in my face at the idea of marketing. "I don't think this project even needs marketing," they've said. This, after they've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and have investors chomping at the bit for results. What?

2. People are still struggling to find the hook on which to hang mass adoption. There is no best chain, there is no winning chain. There is no truly successful crypto-for-utility product. Nobody knows anything in crypto. That's why people keep having success with memecoins and NFT rugpulls.

3. People in crypto don't value education. The crypto bagholders usually came up the hard way, learning via self-study. Or, they are degens who still have no idea what they are investing in. You want to go out and teach this stuff from scratch to newbies? Hell no! Those newbies should pay for it!

Do This Instead

Here's what you should do:

1. The best products and tokens are the ones you build. Nobody really knows anything about crypto-as-utility adoption. So, you by getting out there and hobnobbing with the un-UTXO-ed masses, can quickly gain exclusive insights. And then build products based on those insights

2. Get support. Look for ecosystems where you can get support. This is important! When you go down this rabbithole and are broke after a year-long, cause-driven fever-dream, you are going to need funding. Don't underestimate mentoring and other forms of support either. When you happen upon a rich vein, and you're gaining attention, you want to be surrounded by nice people. Your mental health better be 1-A!

3. Never listen to the haters. Anyone who throws shade on you without offering constructive feedback alongside the criticism is a hater.

4. Bonus: Don't tie yourself to any one chain or language. Learn them all: Javascript, Rust, Bitcoin Script, Solidity, etc.

Final Note

On a final note, definitely, under no circumstances, ever, ever play the brain-dead game of buy and hold. It's a sideshow at best.

Trading is a zero-sum game and everything is a shitcoin to one degree or another.

Yes, you might 100x your money. Or you might be the next featured guest on Coffeezilla's channel.

Or you might sit and wait for 5 years, a hapless victim of the sunken cost fallacy, while your coin does nothing at all. While you sit, sweating the investment, receiving snide comments from the in-laws.

Don't waste 5 years hoping and praying for a bag. Start building today. Learn to code. Join a hackathon.

And don't stop.

I've seen it in so many areas, from my activism to my crypto mass adoption work.

It's just a fact of human life that arises from people who lack the confidence to do what you are doing.

They are impressed by what you are doing. They want to be doing it too! But there is something in them that needs work.

Hopefully, they will get there.

Builders need more support and I'd like to start an ongoing conversation here about how we builders can support each other.

Step 1 is to take a little time away from sources of stimulation and really explore your why, your purpose, your mission.

Dig deep into your own personal history, your background, your family history. Look at what upsets you. What excites you. What unleashes a raw spear of lightning in your gut.

For me, that has always been prosperity.

I used to admire the politician Jack Kemp because he went on about a rising tide lifting all boats.

Later, I was galvanized by Ayn Rand's thoughts on property and the non-aggression principle.

Later I read Gandhi's autobiography and was deeply touched by his compassion and love.

Finally, i discovered Hernando de Soto and realized why there is so much poverty in the world.

Now I am focused on building dapps that can help get crypto into the hands of people in the developing world so that more and more local crypto economies have a shot at sprouting up and flourishing.
