Token Engineering is considered a critical expertise for building thriving Web3.0 ecosystems. From designing a cryptoeconomic system from scratch, to enhancing token utility and growing ecosystem value, to protecting a network against economic attacks and assessing risks, token engineering is a much sought-after expertise in crypto.

However, experts in this domain are scarce. Many projects struggle to find skilled contributors. Additionally, Token engineering is a new field, hence it’s difficult to determine if a job candidate is a good fit.

TE Academy is going to solve this with a new educational program: Token Engineering Fundamentals (TE Fundamentals), the first bachelor-level education, certification and matchmaking program in this new, crypto-native discipline which we are going to launch with our partners TE Commons and 1kx.

A comprehensive understanding of the whole process of token system design is critical for the successful creation of a sustainable token economy. With this course, aspiring Token Engineers can embark on a journey from first ideation steps over proper modeling to system deployment, learning all the important nuances of relevant disciplines and methods.

– Kris Paruch, Token Engineer and Cryptoeconomist at Cryptoeconomics Institute, WU Vienna, TE Fundamentals Content Lead

First, this program will be free for students and accessible online for everyone around the globe.

In parallel to the online course, we’ll offer online study groups, where students can learn together, meet their peers, and prepare for the examination.Successful students will receive an NFT-based certificate, the starting point to build up an individual token engineering skill tree — and proof of expertise for any project seeking to hire a token engineer.

Most importantly, there’ll be matchmaking activities and open job & bounty boards with partners in the crypto sector. TE Fundamentals opens career perspectives for graduates and ensures a smooth transition to a full-time role in Web3.0.

BlockScience is hiring and has helped various clients hire token engineering candidates for their ecosystem. Finding qualified candidates is hard; even when qualified candidates are found, there is a long road to round out their skills.TE Fundamentals will be a great foundation for aspiring token engineers. After getting the fundamentals, Token Engineers can develop their skills in a practical setting, ideally receiving on the job training from more experienced engineers.

– Michael Zargham, PhD, Founder of BlockScience, TE Academy Advisor

TE Fundamentals will cover the following topics:

Crypto-economic Systems- What are cryptoeconomic systems- Why we decentralize- Purpose-driven economies- Cryptoeconomies as complex systems- Engineering Ethics

The Engineering Design Process- TE Process OverviewDiscovery:- System Requirements and Context- Metrics- Agents and their GoalsDesign:- Diagramming Languages- Mathematical Specification and Formal Description- MechanismsDeployment:- Digital Twin, Python implementation- Experiments & Simulations- System Identification- System Governance

Introductions (incl. exercises)- Economics for Token Engineers- Mathematics for Token Engineers- Systems Theory for Token Engineers- Simulations, Scientific Computing for Token Engineers (Python)

Partner Content- Selected examples of cryptoeconomic systems and components- Including examination questions

Computer-aided, Token-based Governance- DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)- Governance Surface- Algorithms as Policy- Computer-Aided Governance Process

Token Engineering offers the promise of exciting new ideas to explore. At TE Fundamentals, you’ll find so many different ways to explore them. Working on this course is a joy for me.

– Andrew Penland, PhD, Mathematics Associate Professor at Western Carolina University, TE Fundamentals Content Team

TE Fundamentals will be available in Q3/2022. We expect a typical student to be ready for examination after around four months of learning. There are no requirements for previous knowledge, even though students without a degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or natural science can expect a steep learning curve. But no worries — we’ll offer study groups to learn together and secure progress!

TE Fundamentals will be your best place to start a career in crypto economics. I’m proud to develop this program together with TE Commons and our partners. Our shared vision is a world with safe digital economies that protect and support public goods. Learn with us, meet friends, find allies, and build the economies of the future!

– Angela Kreitenweis, Founder TE Academy/TE Fundamentals

Since July 2020, when TE Academy launched its first course, over 900 participants from 21 time zones have attended our lectures and community-research programs. We attract students with the most relevant backgrounds, like economics, finance, engineering, AI, or data science. Many of them are waiting for an opportunity to skill up and enter a token engineering career.Would you like to participate in matchmaking activities and access graduates’ job boards?Let’s start a conversation now.

How much time should I reserve for TE Fundamentals?

TE Fundamentals is equivalent to a typical 100 hours semester course. With investing around 7 hours per week, you can complete the program in about four months. If you can invest full time, you’ll be faster.Plus, since it’s an online course, you can start the examination whenever you feel ready for it, at any point in time.

What is an NFT-based certification?

As a TE Fundamentals graduate, you’ll receive a certificate. TE Academy will issue this certificate as an NFT to make it verifiable on the blockchain and available as proof of expertise, for example, to projects interested in hiring you. You can earn and collect additional NFT proofs of participation in other TE Academy research initiatives and many crypto hackathons or bounties. It’s a great way to build up your track record in Token Engineering.

Can I earn a Bachelor’s degree with TE Fundamentals?

No, TE Fundamentals is not a full-scope Bachelor’s degree program, and it is not part of any traditional academic Bachelor qualification program yet. However, a top-50 world-rank university recently granted first ECTS credits for a TE Academy course, so you might apply for acceptance at your university if you study a related field. Feel free to reach out in case of questions.

Is there anything else I should keep in mind?

We’ve recorded a AMA session with future students and the TE Fundamentals team earlier this year. You might find it informative! Check it out at our YouTube channel.

Since 2018, the Token Engineering community has gathered researchers and engineers from many disciplines to formulate the token engineering design process, validation methods, and a body of knowledge. With TE Academy, we’ve created the first educational institution in this field, which traditional academia hasn’t even picked up.Many of our session recordings and learning programs are publicly available on our YouTube Channel.TE Academy has led various educational initiatives with Balancer, Gitcoin, Ethereum Foundation, Boson Protocol, or Ocean Protocol. Our proposals have been successful in various DAO votings, like the DAO Rewards Systems Research Initiative with Ocean DAO, Near DAO, and Gnosis DAO.

Discord | Twitter | Web

I recall having lunch with a group of 8–10 people and discussing Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Litecoin.

I had no notion how anything worked, but I recall studying the pricing charts.

By November, the price of one Bitcoin had risen from roughly $1,000 at the start of 2017 to over $10,000. Ethereum had similar increases, rising from $10 per token in January to $400 per coin in November. The price of Litecoin has risen from $4 to $70 per coin.

I didn’t have a lot of spare cash at the time, and I didn’t know much about crypto, so I bought about $50 worth of Ethereum and $25 worth of Litecoin. Bitcoin appeared to be too pricey to me.

I forgot I had it after a month.

I discovered I had created a Coinbase account six months ago and worked out how to get back in. From the $75 I put in three and a half years ago, I had roughly $120.

If I had continued to invest in 2018, 2019, and 2020, I may have had a lot more. But I don’t want to become bogged down in coulda, woulda, and shoulda scenarios.

I’d rather concentrate on the future and wise investments.

Because cryptocurrency is still more volatile than equities and bonds, the best thing you can do is diversify your holdings and let them alone. My acquaintance earns a lot of money day trading Bitcoin, but they also spend the majority of their time learning and making informed trades.

I would not advise investing in anything you are unfamiliar with.

Before you open your wallet, spend 15–20 hours researching about crypto, the Blockchain, and Bitcoin.

I wanted to see how much money you’d have if you invested $100 in Bitcoin every month for a year. On the 1st, you’ll pay $50, and on the 15th, you’ll pay $50.

Because the price of Bitcoin fluctuates every day, this will not be a precise figure, but rather an accurate approximation. I got these rates from Coinbase, and I’ll include the $2 cost for buying Bitcoin with cash that Coinbase charges.

November 1st 2020

1 BTC = $13,737.11

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0034941 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0034941 BTC

Total Invested = $50

Total worth = $48

November 15th 2020

1 BTC = $15,955.59

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0030083 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0065023 BTC

Total Invested = $100

Total worth = $103.75

December 1st 2020

1 BTC = $18,778.45

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0025561 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0090584 BTC

Total Invested = $150

Total worth = $170.10

December 15th 2020

1 BTC = 19,443.19

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0024687 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0115271 BTC

Total Invested = $200

January 1st 2021

1 BTC = $29,413.29

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0016319 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.013159 BTC

Total Invested = $250

Total worth = $387.05

January 15th 2021

1 BTC = $36,754.60

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0013059 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0144649 BTC

Total Invested = $300

Total worth = $531.65

February 1st 2021

1 BTC = $33,534.39

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0014313 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0158962 BTC

Total Invested = $350

Total worth = $533.07

February 15th 2021

1 BTC = $47,935.66

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0010013 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0168975 BTC

Total Invested = $400

Total worth = $809.99

March 1st 2021

1 BTC = $49,635.30

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.000967 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0178645 BTC

Total Invested = $450

Total worth = $886.71

March 15th 2021

1 BTC = 55,629.08

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0008628 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0187273 BTC

Total Invested = $500

Total worth = $1041.78

April 1st 2021

1 BTC = $58,726.47

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0008173 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0195446 BTC

Total Invested = $550

Total worth = $1147.78

April 15th 2021

1 BTC = $63,229.04

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0007591 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0203037 BTC

Total Invested = $600

Total worth = $1283.78

May 1st 2021

1 BTC = $57,859.28

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0008296 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0211333 BTC

Total Invested = $650

Total worth = $1222.75

May 15th 2021

1 BTC = $46,771.01

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0010262 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0221595 BTC

Total Invested = $700

Total worth = $1036.42

June 1st 2021

1 BTC = $36,684.99

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0013084 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0234679 BTC

Total Invested = $750

Total worth = $860.92

June 15th 2021

1 BTC = $40,158.06

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0011952 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0246631 BTC

Total Invested = $800

Total worth = $990.42

July 1st 2021

1 BTC = $33,510.93

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0014323 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0260954 BTC

Total Invested = $850

Total worth = $874.48

July 15th 2021

1 BTC = $31,872.49

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.001506 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0276014 BTC

Total Invested = $900

Total worth = $879.72

August 1st 2021

1 BTC = $39,859.18

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0012042 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0288056 BTC

Total Invested = $950

Total worth = $1148.16

August 15th 2021

1 BTC = $47,014.38

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0010209 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0298265 BTC

Total Invested = $1,000

Total worth = $1402.27

September 1st 2021

1 BTC = $48,834.27

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0009829 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0308094 BTC

Total Invested = $1,050

Total worth = $1504.55

September 15th 2021

1 BTC = $48,144.03

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.000997 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0318064 BTC

Total Invested = $1,100

Total worth = $1531.28

October 1st 2021

1 BTC = $48,165.76

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0009966 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.032803 BTC

Total Invested = $1,150

Total worth = $1579.98

October 15th 2021

1 BTC = $61,690.32

$48 of Bitcoin = 0.0007781 BTC

Total Bitcoin = 0.0335811 BTC

Total Invested = $1,200

Total worth = $2071.63

Total worth = $224.12

Read More by Clicking Here

Dear fellow Bounders,

Our seed funding has come to an end. To be honest, it was not as smooth as we wanted it to be and there were some mini hiccups along the way. With that said, however, we managed to sell out within 36 hours! That really puts into perspective the trust and belief that our early investors have in us.

The team has reflected heavily and in this article, I will go through some of the issues we faced during the seed funding and what solutions we came up with to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself during pre-sale.

As the seed fund contract was posted in our Discord on 4th of Jan 2022 12 PM UTC, we had a mini-review done by Olympian IndyZa regarding the contract. You may refer to his post here. In his review, there were some concerns regarding the contract that he had and thus we had a discussion in the community chat.

Our dev joined us in the discussion and this was his response to the concerns that were pointed out.

Response:

The risk of 1 person owning 3 signatures in multi-sig wallet with 3/4 policy exists in every multisig wallet.

Answer: You can never 100% ensure that any given multisig consists of unique people only. In our case the multisig consists of different people. The fact that 2 wallets were funded from the same source — so what? We are a team at the end of the day. One guy bought -> sent some funds to another guy. Nothing bad about it. The fact that wallets are 1/2 days long — we are reducing risks by creating a new wallet for each team member. Having new wallets do not correlate to an increased risk factor at all.

Risk of funds being stuck forever.

Answer: Again, the risk of having internal disagreement is unavoidable. This is something that any multisig-owned project could be prone to. We still believe that having a multisig in place is better than a contract owned by a single party.

Withdrawal Risk.

Answer: This is by design, not by mistake. Once the seed funding is finished, we will withdraw the funds raised to pay for several services as discussed previously. This includes KYC and more. This is not a risk, this is essential.

No claim token or claim functionality.

Answer: This is correct. You are right that the contract has no claim functionality. The ERC20 token has not yet been created at this point of time. The token will be created before the public offering. The public offering will operate in a way that the protocol automatically adds liquidity to a BND-BUSD LP pair and sends a certain % of funds raised to the Treasury. The public offering contract will have a claim functionality. Investment info (info about how much each member invested) is publicly available on the seed funding contract. This information will be used by the public offering contract when deciding how many tokens to allow a user to claim.

The way that our seed presale contract logic was set up is that no tokens are given in return when participants invested. There was also no claim functionality that was immediately available in the seed presale contract’s code that would allow investors to claim their tokens.

Reasoning?

We were actually planning to conduct all three rounds of sales first, including the public sale, and only after that to allow investors in all or any of the previous rounds to claim their BND tokens.

Apart from IndyZa, the community also spoke up about this concern. The majority were in favor of having a claim functionality at the start right when they buy in, as they would want to have something tangible to maintain their trust in us. This also proves their ownership of the token. We heard this loud and clear and as such we have decided to take action.

Solution

The team has discussed this with the devs and have decided to come up with a new contract within 24 hours to allow participants to claim their seed funding tokens. This token will be called preBOUND and when you buy at pre-sale and public offering, this will be the same token given to you in return.

Once the contract has been created, we will update our website as well to reflect the changes and allow seed sale investors to claim their preBOUND. In order to claim your preBOUND, you will need to connect the wallet that you used to invest in the seed sale and click on “Claim preBOUND”. Doing so will automatically send the number of tokens that you are entitled to straight into your wallet.

Future Changes

When you participate in the future presale rounds, preBOUND will be automatically sent to your wallet when you buy in, meaning that you will no longer need to claim preBOUND manually.

On launch, preBOUND is exchangeable at a ratio of 1:1 with BND.

There were a few members who were whitelisted that wished to enter and had problems with connecting their wallet addresses and signing on the KryptoSign link.

Solution

The team has decided that in the future, we will show the whitelisted members the excel sheet containing all the signed addresses before the sale starts. This is so that participants can double-check and confirm that their address is inside before we initialize it on the smart contract.

We will also come up with how-to tutorials showing how to sign Kryptosign and purchase preBOUND on the website.

One thing that we did well that should be touched upon is the team’s lightning-fast response to IndyZa’s concerns. Some of the community were shaken by the news and it sparked a bit of fear and panic. Thankfully, the team and the devs worked hand in hand and managed to quell any sort of FUD.

With this, we were able to maintain the trust that the community had in us and it presented how responsive and transparent we were in our thought processes.

Overall this seed fund was a major success as it demonstrated the confidence, trust, and also the belief that our community has in both the team and the project.

From here on out, the team will continue to take swift action in addressing any questions that the community has and strive to be even more open and transparent on what happens behind the scenes. We understand that we might have made some mistakes regarding the contract but we will definitely learn from this and make BND claimable on launch. A huge shout-out goes to IndyZa for pointing these concerns out and bringing awareness to the community. This really gives us a lot of confidence in using him as a peer-reviewer for our project!

With that being said, since we were successful in our goal of selling out seed funding, we are now able to continue with the RugDoc KYC, finalize protocol logic, Peer-Review and also spend on marketing/partnerships.

Thank you all for reading and supporting the project!

In the next article we will look into:

Treasuries — A Breakdown

ShadowProof Reading — ACW

Twitter: https://twitter.com/BoundlessDCFDiscord: https://discord.gg/boundlessdcfWebsite: https://boundless.money/
