onchain reputation is the new "credit score".

crypto has a memory problem. a wallet can farm a protocol, dump the tokens, and move to the next opportunity with zero consequences. because we treat every address as a blank slate, we treat the mercenary trader exactly the same as the long term believer. this is a massive inefficiency. we have built a trustless system, but we forgot to build a way to measure reputation.

right now, we look at wallets and see "universal trust". we see a balance, we see a transaction count. we see if they have money. but we don't see the context. that is a primitive way to run an economy. in the real world, you don't just want to know if someone can pay; you want to know if they will.

financial markets aggregate the world's beliefs and truths, but blockchains erase who acted and why. the transaction is the most honest form of content we have. it can't lie, it can't be edited, it's timestamped and permanent. but right now, it's unreadable. a raw hash on a block explorer tells you nothing about intent. making transactions legible and shareable is step one. scoring them is step two.

if you can attach a score to a wallet, or a cluster of wallets considering how tools like privy are spinning up new smart accounts for every app, you unlock contextual trust. you turn raw data into reputation.

take a wallet that held a cryptopunk through the 2021 mania, rode it all the way down to the bottom, and never sold. that tells you something specific. that user isn't a flipper. they aren't looking for a quick exit. they have conviction.

compare that to a wallet that mints and dumps in the same block. that's a trader.

neither is "bad," but the context changes everything. if you can quantify those behaviors into a reputation score, you stop guessing who your users are.

reputation is collective memory

here is where it gets dangerous.

reputation is just a form of collective memory. it's how a group remembers who is reliable. once that memory is onchain and interoperable, you can reinvent how value moves.

look at lending. right now, defi lending is over collateralized because we don't trust anyone. but if we have a reputation score, we can build a protocol that offers under collateralized loans to high score users.

imagine going to aave. instead of a flat rate for everyone, the protocol checks your score. high reputation? you borrow at 4%. low reputation or fresh wallet? you pay 11%. it's dynamic risk pricing, just like the real world, but transparent and automated.

and if you don't pay it back? we don't need a debt collector. we slash your score.

in the traditional world, a bad credit score is annoying, but it's purely financial. in this future, a slashed onchain reputation is much worse. it doesn't just hurt your ability to borrow; it locks you out of future airdrops, gates you from exclusive apps, and signals to the entire network that you are a bad actor. the social and financial cost of defaulting becomes so high that people will self regulate.

yes, reputation systems can be gamed. any score worth having is a score worth manipulating. but onchain reputation is fundamentally harder to fake because it costs real money and real time. you can buy 100k twitter followers in five minutes. you can't fabricate three years of holding through a bear market, or fake complex governance participation across multiple protocols. the attack surface shrinks when the inputs are immutable transactions instead of social signals.

killing the bots

this solves the distribution problem, too. every project wants to airdrop tokens to a "community," but they usually end up airdropping to bot farms.

if you gate access or rewards based on a reputation score, the bots are fucked. they can't fake a three year history of high conviction holding or complex governance participation. you can say, "you can't use this app unless your score is above X." suddenly, your user base is real people.

killing the parasocial noise

this solves the signal problem, too.

right now, the crypto ecosystem is dominated by parasocial reputation. it's based on one way exposure. whoever yells the loudest on twitter or buys the most followers is the "expert." you can be the stupidest person in the world, have zero onchain skills, and still be an "influencer." that's noise.

we need to move to social reputation. reputation built on repeated, verifiable interactions.

share is building exactly this. instead of constructing a score from the outside, share makes the transaction itself the post. users share their onchain trades with commentary. the "who" and the "why" that blockchains erase. that's a verifiable scoreboard where your reputation has a price. the market decides who's credible by putting money behind it. the shift is from who yells loudest to who performs best, and the ledger keeps score.

imagine a sentiment index derived only from wallets with high reputation scores. we aren't listening to the guy with 100k bot followers; we are listening to the wallets that have actually traded profitably, held through bear markets, and voted in governance.

that is actionable signal. that is alpha.

we are seeing the early innings of this now. you have teams like ethos and talent protocol trying to figure out the scoring layer. quotient is one of the more interesting ones, focusing on the farcaster network, aggregating data from mini apps to build a robust view of who a user is. and then share, which takes the other side of the same coin: instead of scoring behavior after the fact, it makes the behavior itself the content. a full stack real time indexer across solana, ethereum, and base, decoding over a thousand protocols, turning every transaction into something you can follow, share, and act on. that's how you get from data to reputation at scale.

we are moving from a world of anonymous, binary chaos to a world of verifiable, contextual reputation. the data is all there. the next step is making it legible. when the transaction becomes the post and the ledger becomes the feed, reputation stops being a concept and starts being infrastructure. we're closer than most people think.

we focus on early-stage crypto startups, curating high-quality dealflow from across the builder ecosystem. we operate on echo.xyz as group leads, and you can find our profile there.

if you ask someone what they’re doing onchain every day, they are less likely to be interacting with raw protocols anymore. they’re using crypto apps. many of them mobile.

it’s world app, base, and fomo. it’s betting on polymarket, scrolling farcaster and launching clankers, coining content on zora, copy trading on interface/share, or streaming/trading on pump.fun. it’s dm’ing crypto agents like bankr within social feeds or trading HL perps on phantom/rainbow. soon you will be saving on aave. we are watching a massive shift happen in real-time, and i’m not sure people fully understand that this is the future of the onchain economy.

for years, we talked about infrastructure. now, the infrastructure has finally converged to make the mobile application layer possible. you have stablecoins proliferating, privy for seamless custody, fast chains for instant settlement, and fiat on-ramps that actually work. you can download an app, load up to $500 with apple pay without a kyc, and you are live. you are transacting.

the tooling has abstracted away the hard stuff without abstracting away crypto, and what’s left is just an experience that people want to use.

and these crypto apps are natively global from day one.

in the web2 world, you hit cultural and logistical walls immediately. in the U.S., we use instagram and imessage. in China, they use wechat. markets are fragmented. but crypto is a global phenomenon. there are no borders for a wallet address. on a crypto app, your audience is the entire world, instantly. that creates a velocity you just can’t replicate in traditional tech verticals.

we are already seeing this with the numbers. according to a16z, we have around 40 to 50 million monthly active users on mobile wallets alone. that is a real user base, and the next iteration of crypto is just going to be more apps across some new verticals.

experiences that blur between entertainment and finance:

prediction markets, betting on outcomes

agentic entertainment, bonding with onchain agents and compete to solve their riddles for crypto rewards

crypto neobanks, deposit stablecoins/tokens and spend them with a debit card to earn rewards

ICOs, pooling into early token launches and onchain fund raises

crypto apps are becoming the new distribution layer. look at monad. part of why that ecosystem succeeded this week is because people didn't have to suffer through the old hurdles. the apps enabled the network.

compare that to 2021, when buying a $100 nft basically required a phd in binance and metamask.

we are in this amazing phase where the vision of crypto as infrastructure for apps is finally upon us. it doesn't matter what the prices are doing today;
typical social media decoupled prestige from excellence. onchain social recouples this, now your prestige is accrued from your excellence onchain.

it’s live: no downtime

there’s distribution and an audience: followers, readers, wallets, chains

there’s participation: the transaction is the post

there’s scoring/metrics: public pnl, alpha, hit ratios, onchain reputation, leaderboards, trading volume, market cap

there are new formats: live mints, co-buying streams, prediction slates, onchain scavenger hunts, trading competitions, icm, copy trading

blockspace is a new medium. onchain turns “content about actions” into “actions as content,” and it pays out at the moment of action. that’s what onchain entertainment feels like as apps like farcaster, tryfomo, class="dont-break-out" href="https://x.com/clicker">clicker start to get some traction. they let people publicly share onchain activity for fun, for learning, and for money. as more assets and actions move onchain—mints, tickets, collectibles, equities—the pie gets bigger. more things to do. more things to watch. more things to "copy trade".

look at how instagram and tiktok work. there are people who just vibe. there are people who create for fun. and there are people who go pro and monetize through ads, referrals, or their own products. it’s a big clunky loop: attention → conversion → payout. onchain bakes that loop into one click: the post is the action, the “link” is a smart contract, and when someone copies you, it runs the transaction, pays splits instantly, and logs the receipts for everyone to see. revenue is native.

the feed is literally the ledger. at scale, if you have a 10 million followers and you buy something, people can just buy it with you. works for tokens and nfts, sure, but also tickets, physical collectibles, equities, whatever. as financial stuff comes onchain first, this gets powerful fast.

your track record is your record. if you’re good at identifying early meme coins, or you can bet well on prediction markets, or you just have taste on zora, that shows up in your history. people can evaluate it. they can copy you because the thing you did is real and provable. it’s alpha, but it’s also entertainment, the same way pack openings and live reveals are entertainment. courtyard is literally doing gotcha for pokemon packs onchain.

and it maps to real skills. some people are great at picking, others at timing, others at curation. onchain turns those skills into programmable, shareable actions with built-in monetization. it’s cleaner incentive-wise because attribution and revenue splits can live in the contract, not in a backroom ad deal.

zooming out, this plugs into the same human psychology that made sports betting explode. it’s the mix of stakes, spectacle, and story. but now the scoreboard isn’t a follower count but a verifiable pnl, a win-rate, a mints-hit ratio. people can move up the ladder on merit, not just aesthetics. the social graph gets a spine.

prestige now comes from excellence.

of course, it’s not all upside. copy-trading has risk. people can spam. wash trading exists. front-running and perverse incentives are real. but these are design problems, not fatal flaws. the same way web2 learned to fight spam and clickbait, onchain can learn to fight wash and bait.

zora shows a clean version of this with media. you post, people collect. not everything needs to be alpha. sometimes it’s just taste. sometimes it’s art. sometimes it’s the vibe of doing things together, publicly, with skin in the game. and because it’s onchain, a community can build on top with different variants of leaderboards, feeds, copy rails, reputation, and alerts, without an api.

if you believe more things come onchain—and i do—this is where the puck goes. first money and assets, then shopping and tickets, then more of culture. the more native the actions get, the more native the monetization becomes. the creator economy stops renting its rails from ad networks and starts owning its flows. people share what they do. others do it with them.

it’s entertainment. it’s social, but with proof. and it’s early. we’re just starting to feel out what it means to treat blockspace like a stage. my bet: we get a wave of new apps that make “do, share, copy, pay” feel as natural as “post, like, follow.”

<div class="callout-base callout-info"
how stories shape value, and why onchain makes them honest.

lore is the markup on meaning. it’s the story that turns an object into a signal. we don’t buy “things” so much as we buy the narrative attached to them, where it came from, who touched it, why it matters.

in the physical world, lore is everywhere. a painting is a myth of the artist, the era, the provenance. a basketball card is cardboard plus a season, a rookie year, a trade rumor, a kid’s summer. a great watch is a tiny time capsule—the brand’s ethos, a mechanism under glass, color choices that signal purpose, a person’s fingerprints on the design. history itself is curated lore—wars, movements, icons—compressed into stories that stick enough to pass between generations. the details aren’t always clean. paperwork gets lost. memory bends. gatekeepers control which tales get told.

lore is a coordination tool. it tells people what to care about and why to gather around it. that’s why some artists cut through while others don’t. they accumulate repeatable story: a moment, a stance, a recovery arc, a crowd that keeps the flame alive. lore drives attention; attention drives value; value reinforces lore. simple loop.

onchain amplifies all this. the same human desire for story, but with a ledger as the spine. mints, transfers, burns, recoveries, each action is timestamped, public, and linkable. instead of chasing rumors, you chase receipts. the narrative is still social, but the facts are verifiable. that makes lore both louder and harder to fake.

authenticity and provenance is native. ownership is a record. rediscoveries, airdrops, and weird edge cases become canon because you can point to the block where they happened. even small moments—who once held a thing, when it moved, what contract logic executed—calcify into the object’s biography. time helps, too. each block adds a layer. instead of dusty archives, you’ve got an always-on archive anyone can audit.

the result is a sturdier kind of cultural memory. physical lore depends on institutions and recollection. onchain lore depends on open data and shared interpretation. the story is still human, but the scaffolding is verifiable. that’s a big deal for authenticity. it means the myth can travel farther and infinitely without breaking. it means creators can design for legibility by building hooks into the asset itself so the history matters.

lore is how meaning compounds. in the world, it moves through people and content. onchain, it moves through blocks. same instinct, new substrate. and when the substrate keeps perfect records, the lore you build today has a better shot at staying true tomorrow.

we focus on early-stage crypto startups, curating high-quality dealflow from across the builder ecosystem. we operate on echo.xyz as group leads, and you can find our profile there.

the hardest thing about crypto is the mental shift it asks for.

most people still think about money the way they think about a wire transfer. there’s a sender, a receiver, and a bunch of ledgers somewhere in between — credits, debits, everyone keeping score in their own books. that’s how the world’s financial plumbing works. you send money from the U.S. to the U.K., it bounces through a few correspondent banks, gets debited and credited across different ledgers, and the system balances. it’s messy, it’s slow, but it makes sense in a mental model built on trusting institutions.

crypto breaks that model completely. there’s one global ledger, and everyone can see it.
no middlemen, no hidden books, no 3-day settlement. just code, consensus, and instant finality. that’s hard for people to wrap their heads around not because they’re dumb, but because it rewires how you think about ownership and movement of value. even people in traditional finance struggle with this. it’s like trying to explain the internet to someone who’s only ever used a fax machine.

and that’s really the point, crypto is new mental operating system.

remember when the internet was new?

people didn’t get it either. they heard about “websites” and “email”. most people weren’t chatting on irc or reading blogs in 1997. it took a whole generation growing up online before social media exploded. the technology didn’t change as much as the people did. once everyone had spent enough time in the digital world, everything clicked.

crypto’s in that same early stage. the infrastructure is mostly built, the tools exist, but the mindset hasn’t caught up. you can’t shortcut that part. a new generation needs to grow up thinking wallet-first — to them, self-custody, tokens, and onchain identity won’t feel weird. it’ll just be normal.

once that happens, the same way the internet became invisible, crypto will too.

that’s why, when i walk around the world today, all i see are tokens waiting to exist.

i’m at a restaurant, and i tip a waitress 20%. she’s great — thoughtful, sharp, clearly going somewhere. why can’t i buy her token instead? why can’t i invest in her long-term potential, not just reward the moment?

i meet a college founder who’s maybe too early but has the spark. why not own a small piece of his journey?

i see a street performer crushing it on a sidewalk (he might be the next john mayer). why not buy his token, back him early, and let the world see that belief onchain?

that’s what makes this powerful. everything’s public, everything’s open. if a famous person or investor buys that performer’s token it’s a signal. suddenly everyone who follows that person can see it. that’s how opportunity spreads. that’s how attention turns into capital.

there’s not enough opportunity in the world right now.

private markets are gated. public markets are closed off. most people are stuck with whatever their geography or background gives them. crypto flips that. it makes everything permissionless. it gives everyone a shot. anyone can issue a token. anyone can participate.

that’s the part people miss when they call it “speculation.” sure, speculation happens and it always has. but underneath it, this is about unlocking potential. some people aren’t great at selling themselves. some are shy. some don’t fit neatly into the current system. tokens and onchain networks give them another way to show what they’re capable of and to get rewarded for it.

that’s how economies grow. the internet expanded connectivity and access to information. crypto expands monetization and access to ownership. every time access expands, gdp grows. you get new markets, new business models, new ways to earn. it’s the same curve, just one layer deeper.

so yeah, maybe crypto’s taken longer than people expected. it’s a shift in how people think about value itself. you can’t expect everyone to wake up one day and understand it — it takes years of slow rewiring.

- Chris Dixon

the next generation will get it by default. they’ll grow up using wallets before bank accounts, they’ll see tokens the way we see stocks or likes or followers. it’ll just make sense to them.

and when that happens, crypto won’t feel like crypto anymore. it’ll just feel like the world — fast, open, permissionless, global. the way it always should’ve been.

we focus on early-stage crypto startups, curating high-quality dealflow from across the builder ecosystem. we operate on echo.xyz as group leads, and you can find our profile there.

why every parking service should live on a ledger instead of another ugly app.

every public service that takes money—parking meters, bathrooms, park access—spins up its own little silo: a new vendor, a new backend, and a new app. cities pay to build and host the same payment stack over and over. residents juggle apps, logins, and updates. staff reconcile reports from five systems that don’t natively talk to each other. enforcement uses bespoke portals that require constant maintenance.

there’s a cleaner way: use smart contracts on a public ledger.

take public parking. the physical stuff stays put. put a qr code on each spot. that code points to a contract. as a user, you park, scan, your mobile wallet pops up preloaded, the contract knows the rules (minimum hours, price by time of day, surge for events), you send a stablecoin, done.

enforcement is just as simple. the officer scans the same qr or opens a dune dash. if the current time isn’t covered onchain, ticket. no custom portals or brittle apis. the ledger is the source of truth. this isn’t theoretical anymore. cheap, fast chains like base/solana exist today. stablecoins like usdc/usdt are everywhere. smart wallets are built into everyday apps. the stack is ready.

money flow gets easier, too. payments land in the contract, then sweep into a city treasury contract at defined intervals. no nightly reconciliation across five vendors. audit is real-time and public.

setup is easy. nothing new for the street hardware. the meter doesn’t need to talk to a cloud. the qr/contract is the pointer. the smartphone is the interface. the chain is the backend. that’s it. pricing logic is code. holidays are code. grace periods, refunds, event blocks—code.

now zoom out. public bathrooms with smart locks? same idea. park access, boat ramps, rec centers, community rooms: same template, different parameters. one ledger. many services. all composable.

costs shift from “standing up bespoke stacks” to “shipping standard contracts and tiny UIs.” you retire servers, databases, uptime drills, and most vendor lock-in. you keep the physical maintenance. the digital side collapses. most of what used to be “product ops” becomes “contract versioning and key management,” which is smaller, more predictable work.

there are obvious vulnerabilities people could try to take advantage of, but nothing that can’t be mitigated. take the fake qr problem: someone could slap their own sticker over an existing one to route payments to their wallet. cities can use merkle proofs and work with wallet providers and other middleware to flag transactions with fraudulent addresses before they go through. on the street, use tamper-evident or holographic stickers so fakes are easy to spot and replace. the goal is good design—make life smooth for honest users and hard for bad actors.

once money moves onchain, policy can too.

payments are programmable. revenue splits to the city, a maintenance fund, and a neighborhood trust can happen atomically onchain at the moment of payment. no human bottlenecks. grants or subsidies can be coded as price modifiers for residents who meet criteria. transparency is built-in. think of benefits as attributes. once a resident is verified for “senior,” “resident,” “disability,” “low-income,” or “veteran,” that status travels with their white listed wallet and auto-applies everywhere. one verification, citywide coverage. no more reapplying program by program.

so why aren’t cities doing this already?
your onchain activity paints an authentic self portrait.

onchain identity is tied to a set of wallets, not a person. a wallet (or a cluster you actually use) is the identity. whether it maps to your public persona or stays anonymous is a choice layered on top. the ledger doesn’t care. the receipts exist either way.

when you choose to link that wallet set to your name or public handle, you get benefits: credibility, authenticity, copy-trading, distribution, clout, deal flow. if you keep it anonymous, you still keep the same history and signals just not attached to your face. both are valid. both are useful.

transparent wallets are powerful because onchain spend = conviction made visible. nobody buys a $500 digital art piece they don’t like. nobody sizes into a project token they think will lose value. onchain actions cost money and risk, so they tell the truth. that’s why wallets read like portraits.

linking identity to assets feels risky to some people. fair. but most high-profile losses in crypto are social engineering, not physical threats. also, none of this is mandatory. keep private wallets private. go public where the benefits are worth it—cred, reach, deal flow, clout, discovery. use separation, common sense, and basic opsec hygiene.

as more assets move onchain, the self portrait sharpens. the wallet becomes a mirror that’s cryptographically anchored, portable, composable. four layers show up:

cultural. your taste surfaces in what you actually collect and back—art, music, writing, collectibles, memberships, creators. not a mood board; purchases. that’s real signal for discovery. if i rate your taste, i can track it, and subscribe to it.

financial. wallet history is a running ledger of behavior: what you hold, how you manage risk, where you borrow. you can see loans on aave (or elsewhere), repayments, liquidations avoided or not. not a full credit file yet but enough to underwrite basic credit or p2p deals with fewer PDFs. protocols like 3jane are already experimenting with onchain credit scoring.

social. when the social graph lives onchain (e.g. farcaster), influence becomes legible and composable. who you follow, who follows you, what propagates through your corner of the network. you can take your network to any app you log into.

predictive. prediction markets turn takes into positions, and resolved bets turn wallets into scoreboards. when a wallet shows settled predictions, you can copy trade judgment, not just tokens, and weight voices by proven accuracy (hit rate, calibration, pnl). as this behavior spreads, media shifts from headlines to odds—live tickers for everything: “does curry drain the next three,” “does the bill pass,” “does the model ship by friday.” creators can tie claims to tradable lines, so attention flows to people who price reality well.

what this enables next is straightforward -> consumer apps that read public trails and reveals things that are useful.

once people get comfortable with this transparency—and i think they will, because the incentives are strong—we need consumer apps that make sense of it all. apps that aggregate your onchain activity, reveal patterns, prove your expertise, build trust, and track your behavior across different protocols. not in a creepy surveillance way, but in a way that lets you build and showcase your onchain reputation.

some patterns that are emerging in media and on X:

money → information. every onchain action becomes a ranked data signal. feeds won’t just say what happened;

crypto’s creator markets are loud, fast, and a little unhinged. you’ve got people on zora running experiments with their creator tokens, while streamers on pumpfun run shows to juice trading volume. grifters are faking hospital beds and exploiting their grandmas, while teenagers are flexing in rented fake private jet rooms. it’s chaotic, but there’s a real product–market search happening under the noise.

pumpfun streams are everywhere. when the stream is on, attention turns into volume, volume turn into creator fees, and everyone pretends there’s a floor. when the stream stops, everyone sells, volume dries up, buyers log off, and the token dumps. no one’s streaming 24/7; even if they try, people just get tired. you can’t build a market structure.

could you pause trading between streams? maybe. it would cut the bleed, but it also kills spontaneity and makes price action feel scripted. better than nothing? possibly. but it still doesn’t solve the human part: people want to sleep, and speculators want instant exits. until someone breaks that loop, pumpfun stream mechanics are broken in an obvious way.

and the bigger question: why haven’t pro gamers/streamers jumped in? something’s off. there’s a stigma around tokens where people get wrecked, and the whole thing reads as gambling. If you’re a legit streamer, that reputational risk is a non-starter. you don’t want your brand tied to viewers losing money while you’re on camera. so yeah, something is missing for this to go mainstream. until the mechanics feel fair, and the optics feel clean, the pros will keep their distance.

the market acts like it respects star power, but it actually respects repeatable reasons to come back.

that’s why zora is interesting.

they started nft-first and recently pivoted hard into a broader creator token platform where every profile can launch a token, and every post is tokenized and spins up its own liquidity pool tied back to the main token. it’s a clever flywheel: posts create micro-buy pressure; micro-buy pressure sustains the parent token; the parent token gives people a reason to care about the next post. not magic, but it aligns creation with price action better.

zora’s token mechanics also feel less trenchy than pumpfun. half the supply goes to the liquidity pool, half streams back to the creator. that lets the creator do grown-up things (burn, vest, distribute, lock). because it’s not built around a single performance window, snipers and instant rugs don’t dominate the culture the same way. you still get speculation (it’s crypto), but the tone is different.

even so, the ceiling is real. i’ve watched big accounts launch and stall under $1m market cap. some hit tens of millions (balaji-level names can mint a floor on reputation alone) but most drift into a fair-value band unless there’s an engine behind the token: regular output, tight community loops, or mechanics that reward sticking around. my own zora creator token floats $30–60k and honestly that feels right for what i’m doing. the market isn’t dumb;

we tossed erc-721 in the drawer way too fast. the digital art mania, the pfps, the stimulus checks. yeah, that era had noise. but the standard itself? still elegant. still useful. we just attached it to a hype cycle and then walked away when the music stopped.

back then, some platforms like mirror flirted with the right ideas: collecting essays like you collect prints, except onchain. that’s a great mental model. you don’t “like” an essay; you own it. but the timing was rough. infra was clunky. fees were high. “token” was a dirty word. platforms couldn’t ship what they wanted without tripping over stigma or gray-area rules.

fast forward. a bunch of the blockers are different now. stablecoins are everywhere and onboarding new users. wallet ux is better. the regulatory posture is not hostile. the environment is finally friendly to simple, durable products that don’t apologize for using tokens.

make erc-721 boring again, in the best way. we don’t need a metaverse; a gambler, and shitcoined away all his savings going 50x leverage on dog coin derivatives. what matters is that we learn the intact unbiased truth.

take this personal experience that spans a
