Farcaster has evolved rapidly, transforming from a social protocol into a powerful playground for builders, creators, and communities. With the introduction of Mini-Apps, developers can now create interactive apps that run directly within Farcaster posts enabling use cases from NFT minting to governance voting and more.

To further expand what's possible with Mini-Apps, We Them Media is organizing a Bootcamp & Hackathon an open call for developers, creators, and communities to build, learn, and collaborate around decentralized tools for media, governance, coordination, and culture.

Why Mini-Apps?

Mini-Apps are small, modular dApps built into social posts on platforms like Farcaster, allowing users to interact without leaving the post. These apps are powered by an open-source API and supported across multiple Ethereum Layer 2 networks, including Base, Celo, Optimism, and Arbitrum.

This new app layer enables a wide range of interactive experiences minting NFTs, making payments, spinning up games, launching AI agents, and more all inside the Farcaster feed.

About the Bootcamp & Hackathon

The Bootcamp and Hackathon is a multi-day event designed to introduce participants to Farcaster’s Mini-App ecosystem, support them through mentorship and workshops, and provide a collaborative space to prototype new ideas. It is open to all levels of experience and interests.

Participants will choose from six build tracks:

1. Mini-Apps for Community Engagement & Social Tools

Social dApps, onboarding solutions, and gamified participation systems. Hosted primarily on Zealy, it offered tasks that taught users about the DAO while awarding XP (experience points) for each completed challenge.

🎯 Key Activities in the Quest Included:

Joining the Lisk DAO Forum

Reading and understanding Lisk DAO documentation

Staking LSK and delegating voting power

Proposing improvements through governance case studies

Recommending DAO tools for smoother operations

Identifying top delegates within the ecosystem

Inviting others into the DAO journey

Each of these quests wasn’t just click-to-complete they required thought, engagement, and, in many cases, onchain action.

In a space where onboarding is often fragmented or overly technical, this Quest stood out for its structure, progression, and sense of direction.

What the Quest Achieved

1. Expanded Participation

With 159 participants many of whom were new to Lisk the Quest succeeded in growing the DAO’s contributor base, and introducing them to governance mechanics through action, not just theory.

2. Increased Governance Activity

By actions like staking and delegation, the Quest helped more users become active stakeholders, not just spectators.

In a world that’s increasingly driven by digital experiences, the question of ownership has taken a radical turn. From music and art to virtual real estate and collectibles, what it means to "own" something is evolving. Enter digital ownership a transformative idea reshaping how we perceive value, possession, and participation in the new age.

What Are Digital Assets?

Digital assets are any items of value that exist in a digital form. This includes things like music files, images, videos, design templates, online identities, and digital fashion pieces. They can be shared or transferred, but without proper verification, it's hard to prove who truly owns them. As our lives and creative expressions move increasingly online, the ability to securely claim and prove ownership of these assets becomes essential.

What Is Digital Ownership?

At its core, digital ownership refers to having verifiable control and rights over digital assets. Traditionally, digital files could be copied, shared, and stolen without trace. But with blockchain technology, we now have a way to prove who owns what, when, and for how long permanently and transparently.

What Are NFTs?

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are unique blockchain-backed digital tokens that authenticate the originality and ownership of a digital item. Unlike cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, which are fungible and identical in value, each NFT is one-of-a-kind. Whether it's a JPEG, video file, fashion design, or a smart contract tied to real-world products, NFTs provide irrefutable proof of ownership. Think of it as a digital certificate that can’t be faked, deleted, or duplicated.

Why It Matters

Digital ownership shifts power back to creators and collectors. Artists can sell their work directly to audiences. Buyers can resell with royalty benefits kicking back to the original creator. It ensures transparency, traceability, and community-building like never before. But most importantly, it invites us into a world where you don't just consume you participate.

How Vibes & Styles Is Redefining Fashion Ownership

Vibes & Styles a phygital African fashion brand based in Abuja is pioneering this future by blending traditional craftsmanship with modern blockchain technology. Our approach to digital ownership is rooted in three key principles:

1. Digital Twins for Every Collection

Every physical piece we create has a digital twin an NFT minted on the blockchain that serves as your proof of ownership, origin, and authenticity. This isn’t just tech for tech's sake. It’s about preserving the cultural story behind each design, ensuring your garment is traceable and immortalized.

2. Utility and Rewards for Collectors

Ownership is just the beginning. Vibes & Styles NFT holders gain access to a range of benefits:

Exclusive voting rights on upcoming collections

Discounts and early access to new drops

Invitations to private discord communities, brand experiences, fashion shows, and pop-ups

Loyalty rewards that evolve with your interaction

We believe ownership should come with influence. Our community isn't just watching us grow they're shaping the journey.

3. Crypto Payments and Borderless Transactions

Whether you're in Lagos, Nairobi, London or Tokyo, you can shop with crypto via our onchain store. This not only democratizes access but also places African fashion on a global stage, supported by decentralized technology.

Why This Matters to You

Fashion has always been a form of expression. With digital ownership, it becomes a form of empowerment. When you buy a piece from Vibes & Styles, you're not just purchasing a look you’re owning a story, securing its history, and becoming part of a decentralized, forward-thinking creative ecosystem.

This is the new era of fashion. One where heritage meets innovation, and where you don’t just wear a brand you own a piece of its future.

Stay tuned as we roll out our Heritage Collection in 2025 and unlock a world where style is secured by the chain.

Subscribe

What started as a playful, decentralized experiment in open-source creativity has quickly grown into one of the most vibrant subcultures in web3.

Built on the back of the original Nouns DAO, Lil Nouns is a community-powered project that mints a new NFT every 15 minutes, using the same colorful building blocks, think pixelated heads and those unmistakable Noggles. But what makes Lil Nouns truly unique is their commitment to empowering small voices to do big things. It’s a vibe. A movement. And now, it’s a full-on fashion statement.

https://lilnouns.wtf/

Not Just Merch. This Is Wearable Culture

At Vibes & Styles, we don’t just cover fashion. We cover meaning. So when a 10-piece fashion collection emerged from the Lil Nouns ecosystem, drawing from its memes, its art, and its global design playground, we knew this was worth more than a passing headline.

This is not your average DAO drip. This is high fashion coded with culture.

Each design in the collection takes cues from the digital-first aesthetic of the Lil Nouns community from the bold energy of the /NOC (“Noun O’Clock”) meme drops to the vibrant experiments on the public Figma brand page.

Let’s break it down:

The Black Denim Jacket: With silver Behringer clips replacing traditional buttons and belt holes creatively placed along the hem and sleeves, this jacket screams rebellion. The LIL NOUN design take over the entire back of the jacket.

The Yellow Jacket: Dominated by a chest-spanning Noggle graphic, this is peak visual energy. The kind of piece that needs no introduction.

The Sleeveless Hoodie: The front stays clean and classic but turn around and boom: a massive Lil Pipe design throws down a visual punch.

Stonewash Denim Crop Shirt: Cropped, raw, ready for wherever your day (or night) takes you.

Flame-Mixed Leather Jacket: A short-sleeved leather banger that fuses edgy design with heat-wave energy. “Lil” is stitched into the chest like a badge of honor.

Sky Blue Co-ord Set: This short-sleeve shirt-and-shorts combo is fresh air for your wardrobe, denim soft in color, sharp in cut.

Essentials With Intent: Think sweatshirts, hoodies, and crisp shirts all subtly branded with Noggle flair and made to elevate any streetwear rotation.

The Debut: Abuja Got the First Look

To launch this visual feast, Lil Nouns chose no ordinary drop. They unveiled the full collection during the IFMS Listening Party and Fashion Pop-Up in Abuja—an electric night where models rocked the runway in Lil-coded gear while music and creativity pulsed through the venue. Real-world vibes met onchain dreams, and the room? Fully locked in.

It wasn’t just a show. It was a signal.

Editor’s Note: What we’re witnessing here is bigger than fashion. The Lil Nouns collection proves that onchain culture isn’t limited to screens and servers it’s wearable, shareable, and absolutely runway-worthy. From meme to meaning, from Figma to fabric, this collection is a manifesto for a new era of community-led fashion.

We’ll be watching closely for what’s next from the Lil Nouns crew. One thing’s for sure: the noggles are no longer just pixel art

they’re high fashion icons in the making.

Stay vibey from the Aura Haus

Subscribe

In the ever-evolving world of fashion where culture meets innovation, a new name is rising with quiet defiance and bold purpose. Vibes and Styles is not just a fashion brand it is a movement. At its heart is Oyarebu Adulphus Gladys, popularly known in creative circles as Gnericvibes: a music artist, fashion designer, and tech enthusiast whose journey is stitched with resilience, artistry, and ambition.

Born in the vibrant city of Lokoja, Kogi State, but rooted in the traditions of Edo State, Gladys' story is deeply African, profoundly personal, and unrelentingly modern. Now based in Abuja, she stands at the intersection of heritage and futurism, birthing a brand that is as much about aesthetics as it is about storytelling.

From Sewing Rooms to Studios

The seeds of Vibes & Styles were planted early. In 2014, she began her fashion career as a secretary at Frank Stitches Clothing. But being on the sidelines was never her destiny. Gladys immersed herself in the hands-on craft, eventually becoming a machine operator proficient in everything from design to weaving, buttonholing, and final tailoring. It was here she cultivated the patience and precision that would later define her collections.

A brief detour into academia saw her enroll in a two-year course in Science Laboratory Technology at the Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi State. But even science couldn’t dull her creative fire. After her studies, she returned to fashion, this time not just to create but to lead. From 2017 to 2022, she served as manager at Fashion Town, where she mastered acquisition, accounting, and the nuances of fashion business operations. This era was her real-world MBA, earned through late nights, tight budgets, and countless fittings.

Building Legacy with Fabric and Code

In 2022, Gladys co-founded her first brand, MOGIN with Colours Peter, later rebranded as Colours and Gene, a name that foreshadowed what was to come: a blend of fashion, identity, and innovation. But 2024 would prove to be the year that changed everything.

She discovered blockchain technology.

For someone already immersed in music, fashion, and digital design, NFTs and on-chain identity weren't just new tech buzzwords they were the missing pieces. The realization struck: what if African fashion could exist both physically and digitally? What if collectors could own more than just a garment, but a story, a timestamp, a cultural artifact?

Introducing Vibes & Styles

Vibes & Styles was born out of this revelation. A phygital fashion brand rooted in African culture, modern tailoring, and web3 innovation. The brand doesn’t just sell clothing it sells heritage, digitized. Each piece is a canvas that merges urban streetwear energy with traditional African silhouettes. From Lagos to Paris, Abuja to the Metaverse, Vibes & Styles is crafting garments that are timeless in narrative and bold in expression.

On-chain utility is more than a novelty here. Each piece is mirrored as an NFT a digital twin that offers:

History preservation of the collection and its cultural significance

Collector rewards through exclusive drops, discounts, and perks

Community governance(To Come) with NFT holders voting on future releases

Crypto payments via the brand’s onchain store for a borderless shopping experience

A Future Woven in Code and Culture

Today, Vibes & Styles operates out of Abuja, where the rhythm of a new Africa echoes through every stitch. For me, that time was captured in the four songs that made IFMS: “Road,” “Activate,” “Applaud,” and “This Spot.” These tracks weren’t just a project, they are a declaration. A moment of emergence from darkness into clarity.

I spent months living in my Friends music studio early 2024, disconnected from the world, trying to figure out who I was as an artist. In that solitude, I stumbled upon something completely new: Web3. As I dove deeper into this emerging space, I was simultaneously making music and believe it or not had a sewing machine right there in the studio(Shout-Out to Shino Boy for being such an amazing friend and support) music became my therapy, a tool of introspection. The result of those long nights was "Road" a track that embodies struggle, resilience, and discovery.

The feedback I often received was: “Hip hop doesn’t sell. Maybe try Afrobeats. Maybe sing more.” I appreciated every suggestion because I knew it came from love. But I also knew I had something real to say, and I had to say it my way. That commitment to authenticity birthed I Found My Sound (IFMS).

As the music came together and I was now finding my feet through life again so did the vision. We had photoshoots, video content, a release date, and a lead single (Road)out.

Then Kosbaar the A&R for the project and also the event coordinator suggested hosting a listening party and releasing merch for the project. But I knew I didn’t just want to do what’s expected. I’m not only a musician, I’m a fashion designer with a brand called Vibes & Styles

https://vibesnstyles.vzy.io/

and my dream is to create immersive experiences of both my Music and Fashion.

So I said, “Why not do something more? ”Why not bring my two worlds fashion and music together in one unforgettable experience? A start to bringing to life my life-long dream.

That’s how the IFMS Release Party and Fashion Showcase was born a first of its kind in my city, Abuja.

From Studio to Stage: Making It Nounish

During my personal transformation, I found out about Nouns through the Artist Program where I made 5 Nounish digital art designs. I did a lot of research about the community, amazed at how effective the decentralized governance in the DAO is I was thrilled and when I began seeking a way to become an active part, I came across flows which gave me the opportunity to begin making tote bags and gifting Nounish Builders and even hosting Noggles Weekly, X spaces that spotlights builders and hear them sharing their stories. That’s when I connected more with Lil Nouns DAO , joining Nouncil and Happy Hour calls, learning more about the DAO, It lit a fire in me: to proliferate Nouns through fashion and introduce my community to the value of onchain creativity.

Two weeks before the event, a new idea hit me: “What if this wasn’t just about my EP… but also about introducing Lil Nouns to my people?”

That’s how Prop 302 came to be.

A proposal to make the IFMS event Nounish. I requested 1 ETH to create Lil Noun-inspired merch (totes, stickers, hand fans), include the DAO in all promotional materials, rent a photobooth, and organize two Lil Noun NFT raffle draws. I wanted to give back to the DAO by offering revenue shares from sales and helping onboard new members in a meaningful way.

The support from the community blew me away:

Lil 67 delegated his NFTs to help me submit the prop.

Fatty and Mike Good gave valuable feedback.

Bixbite helped me understand the disbursement timeline.

Everything came together like magic.

https://lilnouns.camp/proposals/302

Be a Part of this amazing community join here:

https://warpcast.com/~/channel/noc

https://warpcast.com/lilnouns

https://nouns.world/

The Event: Music, Fashion, and Lil Nouns

Held at Taticana Lounge, Abuja on the 27th of April, the event was pure magic.

The buzz of Nigeria’s crypto scene is impossible to ignore. From Lagos to Abuja, young, tech-savvy individuals are diving headfirst into the world of blockchain, NFTs, and decentralized finance. Nigeria consistently ranks among the top countries in the world for crypto adoption, with a vibrant community of enthusiasts who are active participants in the global web3 ecosystem. Yet, despite this enthusiasm, there’s a glaring gap: while many are actively involved, few are leading.

The reality is that much of the participation is driven by an extraction mindset…. airdrops, token farming, and short-term gains. While these activities are not inherently bad, they often overshadow the deeper potential of web3: the opportunity to build, innovate, and create lasting value. The question we must ask is: How can we move beyond farming and empower Africa’s web3 community to become builders, founders, and leaders in this space?

The Current Landscape: Active Participation, Limited Ownership

Nigeria’s crypto community is undeniably vibrant. From Twitter Spaces to Telegram groups, Nigerians are some of the most active participants in web3. They work as community moderators, content creators, and bull posters for various projects. Many are motivated by the promise of airdrops, free tokens distributed by projects to early adopters. For some, this is a way to earn a living in a country where economic opportunities are scarce.

However, this focus on airdrop farming often comes at a cost. Many participants are so focused on extracting value that they miss the bigger picture: the chance to contribute meaningfully to the ecosystems they’re part of. They become consumers rather than creators, followers rather than leaders. This extraction mindset, while understandable, limits the potential for long-term growth and innovation.

The Barriers to Building

Why aren’t more Nigerians and Africans transitioning from participants to builders? The reasons are complex but not insurmountable.

Lack of Access to Capital: Building in web3 requires resources and money to invest in tools, platforms, and talent. Many talented individuals in Africa simply don’t have the financial means to get started.

Limited Education and Mentorship: While many are active in the space, there’s often a gap in understanding how to transition from participation to building. How do you go from being a community moderator to launching your own project? Many don’t know where to start.

Infrastructure Challenges: Unreliable internet, power outages, and limited access to tools and platforms can make it difficult to build and scale projects.

Cultural and Systemic Barriers: Systemic issues, such as limited access to global networks or biases in the web3 space, can make it harder for African builders to succeed. Additionally, the lack of representation can make it difficult for aspiring founders to see themselves in leadership roles.

Shifting the Narrative: From Consumers to Creators

The good news is that the potential for change is immense. Africa’s web3 community is full of bright, creative minds who are eager to make their mark. But to unlock this potential, we need to shift the narrative from extraction to innovation, from consumption to creation.

The Role of Education: We need more educational resources, workshops, and mentorship programs tailored to African web3 enthusiasts. Imagine a world where every airdrop farmer has access to coding boot camps, design workshops, and founder incubators. The possibilities are endless.

Community-Driven Solutions: African web3 communities can pool resources, share knowledge, and support each other to overcome barriers. By working together, we can create a thriving ecosystem of builders and innovators.

Collaboration with Global Ecosystems: Global web3 projects have a role to play too. By creating grants, scholarships, and incubator programs specifically for African builders, they can help bridge the gap and foster cross-pollination of ideas and resources.

How to Help and Empower:

So, how do we turn this vision into reality? Here are some actionable steps:

For Individuals: If you’re an active participant in web3, consider taking the next step. Learn to code, design, or contribute in technical ways. Join hackathons, builder communities, or DAOs to gain experience. Shift your mindset from short-term gains to long-term value creation.

For the Ecosystem: Global web3 projects should invest in African builders and founders. Create opportunities for mentorship, funding, and collaboration. Representation matters, more BIPOC founders and leaders in web3 can inspire others to follow suit.

For the Community: Let’s create local web3 hubs or innovation labs where people can collaborate and build together. Successful African web3 founders should mentor others and give back to the community. Together, we can build a thriving ecosystem of innovation and leadership.

A Call to Action

The time to act is now. Africa’s web3 community has the potential to be a powerhouse of innovation, but it requires a shift in mindset, more support, and collaboration. Let’s move beyond farming and build a future where Africa’s brightest minds are leading the charge in web3.

Ask yourself:

How can I contribute to creating more opportunities for African builders in web3?

What role can I play in shifting the narrative from extraction to innovation?

How can we, as a global community, support underrepresented founders and creators?

The future of web3 is global, inclusive, and decentralized. Let’s make sure Africa is not just a participant but a leader in this exciting new frontier.

Beyond farming lies a world of opportunity, a chance to build, innovate, and lead. Africa’s web3 community is full of untapped potential, and it’s up to us to unlock it. By shifting our mindset, investing in education and resources, and working together, we can create a future where Africa’s brightest minds are at the forefront of web3 innovation. The journey won’t be easy, but the rewards will be worth it. Let’s move beyond farming and build something extraordinary.

Creative Alchemy: Redefining Web3 for Creatives, One Community at a Time

In the fast-evolving world of Web3, the space is often synonymous with developers, blockchain engineers, and technical builders who shape the infrastructure of decentralization. But beneath the code and protocols, there’s a quieter but equally powerful force emerging—one that champions the contributions of artists, storytellers, and cultural creators. At the heart of this movement is Creative Alchemy, a community that’s rewriting the narrative of who “builders” truly are in Web3.

As an outsider looking in, the impact of Creative Alchemy is profound. This isn’t just a group of creatives dipping their toes into Web3; it’s a full-fledged community on a mission to make the digital future inclusive, accessible, and genuinely creative. For those who believe Web3 should reflect a diverse ecosystem of contributions, Creative Alchemy offers a beacon of hope and inspiration.

Championing New Values in Web3

The foundation of Creative Alchemy lies in three guiding values that set it apart in an ecosystem often skewed toward technical achievement. By focusing on these principles, Creative Alchemy isn’t just welcoming creatives; it’s fundamentally changing what success looks like in Web3.

Building What People Want – In an industry often driven by innovation for innovation's sake, Creative Alchemy brings a refreshing shift. Its projects prioritize real-world impact, responding to the needs of the community and finding new ways to enhance everyday experiences in Web3. This “people-first” approach ensures that creativity serves a purpose beyond novelty.

Keeping It Simple – Web3 can be complex, with its decentralized systems, token economies, and technical jargon. Creative Alchemy has made it a core mission to simplify this space, making the language, technology, and workflows more accessible to everyone. In doing so, they’ve opened the door for countless creatives who might otherwise be daunted by the intricacies of decentralized technology.

Bringing New People On-Chain Through Education – While Web3 holds enormous potential, it requires a community of empowered users to fulfill it. Creative Alchemy understands this, dedicating resources to educate, guide, and support creatives. Their emphasis on education is more than onboarding; it’s about fostering a generation of Web3 natives who are as empowered as they are inspired.

For creatives stepping into Web3, these values offer a lifeline. They create a space where artists and cultural figures can thrive without needing to be coders or tech experts. It’s a transformative model that has resonated deeply with the community, giving rise to a new paradigm of “builder” that goes beyond traditional definitions.

Redefining Success for Non-Technical Builders

One of the most commendable aspects of Creative Alchemy is its approach to measuring success. Traditional Web3 metrics—such as smart contract deployment or transaction throughput—don’t always capture the contributions of creatives. Creative Alchemy is leading the way in redefining these metrics, championing a more inclusive perspective that values:

Community Engagement: Celebrating the ability to unite and inspire others, fostering dialogue, and building connections that strengthen the Web3 ecosystem.

Cultural Impact: Recognizing the ways creatives shape narratives, amplify voices, and introduce new perspectives that enrich Web3 culture.

Digital Track Records: Highlighting measurable contributions such as NFT mints, wallet interactions, and community-building efforts that reflect an active, meaningful presence in the space.

By expanding the definition of success, Creative Alchemy isn’t just uplifting its own members—it’s challenging the broader ecosystem to think differently about what it means to build value in Web3.

“Together is Always Better”: Building a Community of Impact

At the core of Creative Alchemy’s vision is a commitment to collaboration and collective growth, embodied in the simple yet powerful slogan, “Together is always better.” This motto isn’t just about working together; it’s about the realization that in Web3, the real power lies in diverse voices, shared knowledge, and mutual support.

Creative Alchemy has built a safe haven where creatives feel seen, valued, and empowered to share their talents with the world. It’s a testament to the potential of Web3 when individuals come together not just as users but as contributors to a shared vision. This culture of collaboration has made Creative Alchemy a trailblazer, demonstrating that the future of Web3 is at its strongest when it’s inclusive, cooperative, and community-driven.

An Open Invitation to Join Creative Alchemy

If you’re a creative exploring the world of Web3 or an experienced contributor looking to make a deeper impact, Creative Alchemy welcomes you. Our community is open to everyone, built by creatives, for creatives. Together, we’re calling on all who believe in uplifting, onboarding, and educating others, and who want to change the narrative around creatives—who we believe are the true lifeblood of this ecosystem.

By joining Creative Alchemy, you’ll become part of a collective that is redefining what it means to be a builder, advocating for a fair and inclusive Web3, and ensuring that every voice has a chance to shine.

“Together is always better.”

In the heart of the ancient Benin Kingdom, nestled within the rich lands of Edo State, the traditions of the people run as deep as the roots of the Iroko trees. It is a land steeped in heritage, where symbols speak louder than words and attire carries the weight of generations. This illustration, titled Deeply Rooted, captures the essence of this culture, honoring the people of Benin City and celebrating their timeless traditions.

The figure stands tall, adorned in sacred attire—a pure white shirt, emblazoned with intricate designs of the sacred sceptres, Ada and Eben. These are not mere symbols; they are the very heartbeat of the Benin Kingdom, relics of power, authority, and reverence. The Ada, a sword of honor, gleams with dignity, representing the strength and valor of the ancient monarchy. Alongside it, the Eben, a sword for dancing, moves gracefully in the wind, a symbol of celebration, joy, and unity within the community. Both sceptres, introduced during the Ogiso Ere dynasty, have become enduring emblems of the monarchy’s authority and the sacred connection between the ruler and the people.

The attire is further adorned with traditional coral beads, draped around the figure’s neck and wrists. The vibrant red beads pulse with the energy of the kingdom’s past. Coral beads are more than mere decoration in Benin—they symbolize power, dominance, and the hierarchy that has long structured the ancient kingdom. Worn only by those of significant stature, these beads elevate the wearer to a realm of respect and influence, marking their place in the social and political structure of the land.

The piece is a tribute not only to the grandeur of the attire but to the story of the Benin people. It is a visual tale of a civilization that has endured, of kings and queens who ruled with wisdom, and of a people who have never forgotten where they came from. The white of the cloth reflects purity and peace, while the sacred sceptres tell stories of bravery, leadership, and a vibrant monarchy system that still echoes today.

As you stand before this image, you are not just looking at an illustration. You are beholding a legacy, a celebration of Benin's culture, and the soul of the people. The piece, the second in the Deeply Rooted series, serves as a reminder of the creator’s African heritage and the indomitable spirit of Edo State. It stands as a testament to the pride and respect carried by the people of Benin City, their roots stretching far into the past and flourishing into the present—a symbol of the beauty and strength of African culture.

As a creative in the Web3 space, you're at the forefront of a digital revolution, bringing art, music, fashion, and innovation to decentralized platforms. However, this also makes you a target for bad actors looking to exploit vulnerabilities. From phishing attacks to malicious smart contracts, it's crucial to stay vigilant and protect your wallets, accounts, and funds.

In this post, we'll explore practical steps you can take to safeguard your Onchain presence and continue creating with peace of mind.

Avoid Suspicious Links One of the most common ways creators fall victim to hacks is through phishing links. These links often arrive in the form of messages, emails, or even comments that look legitimate but lead to malicious websites designed to steal your information.

Key Tips:

Never click random links: Be wary of unsolicited DMs or emails containing links, even if they appear to come from a trusted source. Phishers often create fake websites that mimic well-known platforms.

Verify before clicking: Always double-check URLs for subtle differences (like replacing an "l" with a "1"). When in doubt, type the website address directly into your browser.

Use secure browsers: Enable anti-phishing tools and consider using privacy-focused browsers like Brave or security extensions like MetaMask.

2. Understand Smart Contract Permissions Smart contracts power many Onchain interactions, but they can also be used maliciously to drain your funds. Before approving any transaction, make sure you understand the permissions you're granting.

Key Tips:

Review permissions carefully: Always check what a smart contract is asking for before signing. If it requests unlimited access to your funds, you might want to reconsider. Revoke access: Use services like Revoke.cash to periodically review and revoke access to dApps you're no longer using or that seem suspicious.

Test with small amounts: When dealing with a new or unfamiliar dApp, try it out with a small amount of crypto to minimize risk.

3. Secure Your Assets with Hardware Wallets A hardware wallet (like a Ledger or Trezor) stores your private keys offline, making it much harder for hackers to access your funds. For creators holding valuable digital assets, this is a must-have security measure.

Key Tips:

Use a hardware wallet: Store long-term assets like NFTs and crypto in a hardware wallet to keep your keys safe from online attacks.

Never share your seed phrase: Your seed phrase is the key to your wallet. No legitimate service will ever ask for it, so keep it secure and offline.

4. Be Cautious When Connecting Wallets Connecting your wallet to websites and dApps is common practice in Web3, but it also exposes you to potential risks. Some malicious sites can drain your funds the moment you connect.

Key Tips:

Only connect to trusted platforms: Always verify the legitimacy of a site or dApp before connecting your wallet. Look for security audits or reviews from trusted sources. Use burner wallets: For testing or interacting with unknown platforms, create a burner wallet with minimal funds to avoid compromising your main accounts.

Enable MFA: If supported, enable multi-factor authentication for extra security on platforms where you manage your assets.

5. Strengthen Account Security The platforms you use to mint NFTs, trade assets, or connect with Web3 communities are also vulnerable to attacks. It’s essential to protect your accounts from unauthorized access.

Key Tips:

Use strong, unique passwords: A password manager like 1Password or Bitwarden can help you generate and store secure passwords across different platforms. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Many platforms allow 2FA, which adds an extra layer of protection against unauthorized logins.

Monitor account activity: Regularly check your accounts for unusual activity. If something looks suspicious, take immediate action to secure your assets.

6. Stay Informed About Web3 Security The security landscape in Web3 is constantly evolving, and staying informed is key to protecting yourself. By keeping up with the latest news and vulnerabilities, you can better navigate the risks.

Key Tips:

Follow security updates: Platforms like CertiK, and other Web3 security experts provide regular updates on known vulnerabilities and new threats.

Learn from others: Many creators share their experiences with hacks and scams, creators like Latasha, Jamee Cornelia and Kokocodes have had their accounts and wallets attacked by scammers using phishing links. Keep an eye on community forums, social media, and newsletters to stay ahead of potential threats.

Conclusion: Stay Vigilant and Create Safely Web3 gives creatives unparalleled control over their work and assets, but with that control comes responsibility. By taking the right precautions—avoiding suspicious links, managing smart contract permissions, using hardware wallets, having multiple accounts that is not used to connect to links, and securing your accounts—you can protect yourself from bad actors while continuing to explore the exciting possibilities of blockchain technology.

Stay secure, stay informed, and keep pushing the boundaries of creativity onchain!
