I experience it as the consequence of optimism — the belief that I could move faster than my own rhythms would allow.

This is a familiar pattern for me. Optimism turns into overthinking. Overthinking into overextending. Overextending into over-explaining. And eventually I arrive at disappointment, overwhelm, and a quiet frustration with myself.

This delay wasn’t procrastination.

It was intelligence.

Not the kind we’ve been trained to recognise — but the kind that emerges when you stop overriding yourself in service of timelines that were never designed for you.

The technology we’re building at GOE exists because I needed it first. I needed a way to observe myself honestly. To read my own data. To ask: What do I actually need right now? What’s true for me beneath “expert” advice, productivity culture, and algorithmic pressure?

This launch took longer because I refused to override myself.

We’re taught to fear “falling behind.” We are constantly being sold urgency — and we can’t help but buy in, because it activates primitive survival tendencies wired long before timelines, platforms, or optimisation culture existed.

The world only rewards one of those modes.

What I’m hearing most—across nearly every interaction digital/irl—is a low-grade, persistent hum of overwhelm. Not dramatic burnout, not collapse (though that’s there too), but a kind of static in the system that makes it hard to focus, decide, or create.

Here’s how it tends to show up (for me) and maybe for you too:

1. Too Many Inputs, No Integration

The consuming constantly—content, opinions, tools, techniques—but nothing is sticking. We’re full of insight but starved for embodiment. It’s like emotional indigestion. And a mental delay, the mind keeps loading tabs it never closes.

“I know so much, but I don’t know what’s mine.”

1. Perfectionism Masquerading as Readiness

I find myself waiting to feel “clear” before acting. But clarity doesn’t come in stillness—it comes in movement. The need to be right, to be perfect, to not waste energy—it’s paralysing.

“I’ll start when I feel aligned. → procrastination = pressure intensifies.”

2. Noisy Internal Dialogue

There’s a constant loop: I should be doing more. I should rest. I should be grateful. I should want less. I should want more. It’s exhausting. Thought becomes punishment. The voice of intuition gets drowned in analysis.

“I can’t tell what’s intuition and what’s self diagnosis based off whatever algorithm I happened upon.”

3. Disconnection from Felt Sense

We are all living in our heads, totally unanchored from the body. We say “I can’t focus,” but what we mean is “I can’t feel.” The nervous system is hyper-vigilant, and focus is impossible without safety.

Some of what gets called “procrastination” or “lack of discipline” is actually grief. Grief for what the world is, what was promised, what hasn’t arrived. But instead of being held, it gets intellectualised. Or turned into shame.

“I just don’t care like I used to. But I’m scared to say that out loud.”
