As for ski resorts, Liu Kai told Science and Technology Daily that the construction cost of outdoor ski resorts is slightly lower, but there is a similar situation in the construction of indoor ski resorts. Snow presses mainly rely on imported equipment, and the total investment of the site is often hundreds of millions of yuan.

Another reason for the high cost lies in the operation link.

Liu Kai introduced that when designing and building domestic ice rinks, they often include different teams of refrigeration, heating and ventilation. Everyone has their own division of labor, but they do not integrate several links as a whole, which makes it difficult to achieve comprehensive utilization of cold and heat.

“Eventually, the operation cost of the ice rink is amazing.” According to Liu Kai’s rough estimation, according to the traditional design idea, a standard ice rink of 1800 square meters will cost about 1.5 million yuan of electricity in a year for refrigeration only. Coupled with dehumidification, heating and other costs, the annual operation electricity charge may be as high as about 4 million yuan.

When Liu Kai went to European ice rinks for investigation, he found that ice rinks in many countries integrate different links at the beginning of design and construction, and consider the comprehensive utilization of cold and heat. For standard ice rinks of the same scale, the operating cost is only about half of that in China.

In Liu Kai’s view, to promote ice and snow sports and develop ice and snow industry, it is very important to increase investment in science and technology. “If more domestic equipment can be selected during the construction of the ice rink, the investment cost can be greatly reduced; the comprehensive utilization of cold and heat can be scientifically considered at the beginning of the venue design, which can greatly reduce the operation cost in the later stage.” According to Liu Kai’s analysis, the construction and operation costs of ice and snow sports infrastructure are reduced, and the consumption threshold is reduced, so as to finally attract more people to participate in ice and snow sports.

Sun Yanling is also increasingly aware of the importance of science and technology to the ice and snow industry. She found that in Shenzhen’s indoor ski resort, people can wear sleds and face the big screen to simulate skiing on an electric ski blanket.
