GreenPill Brasil is a vibrant community-driven initiative at the forefront of blending regenerative practices with Web3 technologies. Our mission transcends the boundaries of financial systems and ecological restoration. By integrating cutting-edge decentralized tools with grassroots activism, GreenPill Brasil has become a hub for innovation, experimentation, and collaboration in regenerative finance (ReFi).

GreenPill Brasil was born out of a desire to tackle critical environmental and social challenges in Brazil, leveraging the power of blockchain to empower communities, decentralize decision-making, and mobilize resources efficiently. Over the past year, we’ve built foundational initiatives, from creating training programs for agroforesters to running decentralized governance experiments. Each project reflects our ethos: regeneration through collaboration.

One of our most transformative collaborations has been with AgroforestDAO, a project designed to onboard agroforesters and environmentalists into the Web3 ecosystem. The AgroforestDAO Journey training program became a cornerstone of our activities, merging practical ecological restoration with decentralized tools.

This program introduced participants to concepts like quadratic funding, POAPs, and decentralized governance while encouraging them to apply these tools to real-world agroforestry projects. By the end of the journey, participants had not only enhanced their understanding of regenerative finance but also contributed directly to ecosystem restoration efforts.

Through this collaboration, GreenPill Brasil is helping to distribute $3,500 in GLO tokens on the I AgroforestDAO Round that is running on Gitcoin until December 19. This wasn’t just about funding—it was about fostering a community capable of scaling agroforestry solutions sustainably.

On August 25, 2024, we tested our GreenGoods app concept in Rio Claro, São Paulo. Despite challenging weather conditions, six dedicated participants joined us to contribute to land restoration efforts. This event marked a critical milestone in translating the theoretical framework of GreenGoods into tangible action.

The day began with shared meals, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. Participants worked tirelessly to remove invasive Leucaena leucocephala, clearing 30m² of land. This challenging but rewarding task was followed by planting a mix of native and non-invasive exotic species like avocado, uvaia, and inga, chosen to enrich the soil and support biodiversity.

Beyond physical work, the event emphasized citizen science. Participants documented local flora to contribute to our biodiversity assessments, ensuring that data collection complements ecological restoration. To conclude, every participant received organic food baskets, reinforcing the idea that regeneration benefits both land and community.

The hypercert of this event was distributed to all our contributors from the DeSci Round GG21.

On December 10, 2024, GreenPill Brasil hosted an event titled Regenerative Networks: Exploring ReFi with Celo at Arcahub, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. This hybrid event brought together thought leaders, practitioners, and community members to explore the role of ReFi in driving systemic change, particularly in Latin America.

Key highlights included a panel discussion featuring Marcelo Silva and Renato Ximenez, who analyzed the CeLatam report about ReFi in Latam. The conversation offered a deep dive into the challenges and opportunities of implementing ReFi solutions across the region, emphasizing the importance of inclusive technologies like Celo.

Interactive workshops followed the discussion, with participants learning how to set up wallets for funding regenerative projects via Gitcoin. The event demonstrated not just the potential of ReFi but also the practical pathways to engage with it.

GreenPill Brasil has also ventured into the world of AI with Zap Tree, an innovative app designed to streamline plant species identification while training AI models for biodiversity research. By blending expert human input with automated learning, Zap Tree aspires to create a robust global database for ecological restoration projects.

The app’s card-based interface makes species identification intuitive, even for non-specialists, ensuring broader participation in biodiversity documentation. This tool complements GreenGoods by enabling detailed, scalable ecological monitoring.

As part of our commitment to decentralized decision-making, GreenPill Brasil has been leading governance experiments using the Gardens platform. With our native experimental token, Groweco, at the core, we are exploring how communities from our ecosystem can make collective decisions and share resources.

While the Gardens platform is still being optimized, we have set up an interim governance system on Charmverse, where proposals are submitted and reviewed manually. Funds are allocated via Safe wallets. This dual-layer approach allows us to experiment with decentralized governance while maintaining operational efficiency. We plan to release a detailed report on our learnings, hoping to inform similar initiatives worldwide.

One of our most ambitious projects, the Living Center, is taking shape in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. This community hub aims to integrate education, agroecology, and cultural activities under one roof. On November 30, 2024, we completed the first phase, including foundational construction and roofing.

The event gathered local residents, children, and representatives from various agroecology initiatives. This collaborative effort not only advanced the Living Center’s construction but also fostered a deeper sense of community. Participants shared knowledge about Web3 tools and regenerative finance, bridging gaps between technology and grassroots activism.
