I found Henry Lloyd.

A journey into finding menswear began.

It was 1994.

Henry Lloyd caught my eye.

How? Through footballs, casual passersby?

Their logo intrigued me.

Henry Lloyd wasn't yet,

On mainstream radar.

Found on the corner

East St. Arcade.

The Lanes Brighton.

A few select pieces.

A few weeks wait.

Brighton Marina Yachting supplies

Provided the stockist.

Filled with yachting gear, not menswear

Rope galore,

Likely Lad,

The yachting keepers stunned.

I ordered. Shoes. Shorts. A rugby shirt.

A rugby shirt with thick blue and white stripes remains.

A symbol of Henry Lloyd's past quality.

I fondly recall a technical black fleece jacket.

Timeless.

Mates also bought their gear.

Henry Lloyd's clothes: comfortable durable.

Perfect for beach and beer.

Deck shoes.

Twill shorts.

Strong. Durable. Well-priced.

Brighton days were memorable.

Became high-street.

Lost the authenticity.

This story is more than clothes.

Aquascutum beckoned

Manchester '98,

St. Ann's Square charm,

Head down,

The stairs to tradition,

Youth in a realm of age-old style.

Their knitwear wasn't just fabric; it was time travel.

Trench coats in rows—

The staff recognized the pattern:

A young casual returning, seeking tradition.

They'd nod, understanding.

Once, an affluent couple paused, noticing the shift.

I wasn't just shopping—

It was an inheritance.

I kept coming back,

Became part of the narrative.

Old style, new blood.

Aquascutum wasn't just worn;

It was a story told anew.

Old style pulses anew,

More than wear—

Stories reborn.

Brighton, early 2000s.

Withdean Stadium—

A game, a tap, a question: "Can I buy your cap?"

It was spreading—this heritage vibe.

Founded in 1851, Emary's vision.

Trench coats, from Cary Grant to Thatcher, classic.

Now, silence in London, whispers in China.

Funding denied, heritage on hold.

The corporate voice laments, "They've done nothing."

Aquascutum's spirit endures.

Even in absence, a narrative persists.

"We wear history," echoes the sentiment.

Not just a trench coat—

I am menacing,

Legacy empowered.

It held a secret.

A design - the Military Pattern's

Meticulously crafted. Lovingly detailed.

But it was just sitting there.

Free in its digital form yet confined. Untapped potential.

The thought niggled at me.

"How do I make this magic known?"

Years back, in Brighton, the distinct scent an army surplus stores was a call to adventure. Tables filled with remnants of history. Amongst it all. Not a toy, but gear from a bygone era. It was transformative.

"Could treasures truly be shared and freely?"

Fast-forward decades.

That same urge to share it brewed within.

I had a design pattern, and it deserved the light.

Then came Rickard, [a]industri and connect. clo-set

Suddenly, the subtle hum of my hard drive echoed on a grand stage.

In moments, my Military Patterns were reborn.

From obscurity to open-source. Accessible. Unchained.

Much like that pattern from the surplus store.

Seeing it on @[a]industri portal, available to every innovator and dreamer, was euphoria. A vision, now tangible.

"Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality."

The wave began. One pattern led to a blossoming community. Ideation. Creation. Unity.

Life doesn't wait.

Designs, stories, lessons - they're meant to be shared.

Someone, somewhere, needs it.

Will treasure it. Evolve with it.

Unleash your magic.

Sculpted 3D metal pass, my ticket to the unseen.

Tunnel,

Darkness,

Base,

Shadows,

Freedom.

Approaching the Guardians, 3D metal pass in a sticky grasp.

Descending into darkness, the base crashes through the wall.

A distant glow,

Swinging doors reveal a hidden world.

Warmth rushed past, enveloping me.

The potent mix of sweat, beer and freedom fills the air,

Green laser etch electric stories upon the  silhouettes in the dark,

And then the clarity of the beats.

Acid House

A Red Stripe in Hand, cool and liberating.

I moved, swayed, and a danced amidst the silhouettes.

Queue or not, escape is within.

Dance, move, find my rhythm.

Every place is an escape if the soul dances freely.

Choose the rhythm, ignore the confines.

Lessons from the dark, laser-lit room:

Keep a beat kept alive in the imagination.

Dance on.

The M-65 morphs from military to mainstream. Veterans like John Kerry don it in protests, birthing a symbol of peace.

Yet its essence remains untouched.

It’s not just fashion; it’s a narrative. From battlefields to racks of local army surplus stores to the streets, the M65 endures.

Crafted to last and steadfast, it remains prominent with over fifty years of service.

A shield

A symbol.

A dream.

An icon, stitching its story through decades and genres to come.

"Dress from your feet up," an old mod wisdom echoes, not merely a style but a philosophy to live by.    Desert boots, once guardians of soldiers' feet in WWII, morphed into symbols of mod rebellion.   

The 1980s brought us the Nike Air Ship, Michael Jordan's initial step into an NBA legacy, weaving sport and culture into a single thread.   

VIRGIL ABLOH reflects, "Revert against stiff and formal. Look as comfortable as you feel."
