Officials of the 8.5-acre breeding centre said the crocodiles were being relocated as overcrowding in their original home was leading to fights.

"Because of overpopulation at the bank, hundreds of crocodile eggs are destroyed every year," says Nikhil Whitaker, curator of the centre in Chennai city. "The decision to shift the crocodiles was taken to give them a better space to live in," he adds.

Over the years, the bank has been sending its crocodiles to protected areas and zoos across India. However, this is the first time that such a large number of crocodiles are being shifted.

The 425-acre, three-year-old zoo in Gujarat's Jamnagar city has said in its latest annual report that the crocodiles "will be given adequate space, food and care".

The breeding centre was started in 1976 for conserving mainly three native species of crocodiles - muggers, saltwater crocodiles and gharials.

It initially had around 40 crocodiles, and the goal was to protect them so that they could multiply and their populations could be released into the wild to restock their natural habitats.

At least 268 people, including many children, have died so far. Around 151 people remain missing and more than 1,000 are injured.

Hundreds of responders have been sent to Cianjur to accelerate the rescue.

But their efforts have been stymied by torn-up roads and continuing tremors.

Mr Kamil told the BBC's Newsday programme that the local community was still exposed to these aftershocks, which have in some cases put responders at risk.

"The follow-up earthquake [sic] is still happening," he said, but added that he hoped these would come to a stop by Friday. "Currently we are coordinating [our mission] to focus on search and rescue...[as] many people are still missing mostly in remote [hilly] areas [and] mountain tops."

Mr Kamil told the BBC rescue teams are still traversing the ground on foot and motorbike, with road paths not always accessible, but that they also had helicopters on standby to transport found victims to hospital.

The 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck near the heavily populated town shortly after lunchtime on Monday, reducing scores of buildings to rubble.

It is pointed out by a great many people that one should not expect any reward when doing a goog deed.They believe that good deeds belong to voluntary service,purely out of willingness,which has nothing to do with expectation of rewards.In other words,people do good deed is not because intending to obtain money or returns from others,but because wishing to do so and feeling honored,respected and needed.As a result,doing good deeds will be an essential source of one's happiness,pleasure and even pride. However,people who agree a fresh view claim that people should be rewarded for doing good deed,because those warm-hearted and nice people will sacrifice their own benefits.Suppose those people cannot obtain any praise and reward,will they still manage to do good deeds?The answer will not be

optimistic.Logically,they emphasize that proper and proportionate rewards will definitely encourage people in ever increasing numbers to help those who are in trouble.

Weighing the pros and cons of both two sides,I believe every view has its own reasons.Nevertheless,I cherish a belief that rewards,although many people do good deeds in order not to gain any reward,will gradually and eventually increase the number of people who expect to help people.
