On top of that, we're building an oracle-based swap protocol engineered specifically for stablecoin-to-stablecoin transactions: low slippage, price stability, no impermanent loss.

Why ZARP?

ZARP is a South African Rand-backed stablecoin - and the South African Rand is the most traded currency on the African continent. South Africa has one of the most mature financial ecosystems in Africa, with deep capital markets, a large crypto-native population, and growing stablecoin adoption driven by the need to hedge against rand volatility.

For builders operating in the African DeFi space, ZARP is not optional - it's foundational. For insstance, a cross-border payment infrastructure connecting South Africa and the rest of the world needs a reliable, verifiable price feed for ZARP onchain.

What This Integration Unlocks

Adding ZARP to IFÁ Labs' oracle infrastructure isn't just a product update. It's a building block - one that expands a whole class of use cases:

Cross-Border Payments - Imagine a payment app that lets a merchant in Lagos receive settlement in cNGN while their supplier in Cape Town gets paid in ZARP, with real-time oracle pricing governing the swap. That's not a whitepaper idea. That's something builders can now start building.

DeFi Composability - Lending, borrowing, and yield protocols can now use ZARP as a verified collateral asset with a trustless price feed. This is exactly the kind of DeFi composability that we unlock, not afterthoughts.

Remittances - The Nigeria-South Africa corridor is one of the most active remittance routes on the continent. Stablecoin-native remittance apps can now route ZARP/cNGN flows with price certainty, without relying on offchain sources or centralized intermediaries.

Stablecoin Wallets & Exchanges - Any product that holds or swaps ZARP now has access to a reliable, onchain-native price feed to power accurate valuations and settlement..

What's Next

ZARP joins a growing list of supported assets on IFÁ Labs - including cNGN, BRZ, USDC, USDT etc. Each new asset brings us closer to a world where any stablecoin, from any market, can be priced, swapped, and settled onchain without compromise.

If you're a builder working with ZARP - or building anything in the Southern African DeFi space - we'd love to talk.

Let's build the infrastructure Africa deserves.

IFÁ Labs is a trustless, multi-chain oracle network for stablecoins and financial instruments - starting with Africa, scaling globally.→ifalabs.com→ X:@ifá_labs

At that moment, I had two choices: either implement a quick fix using offchain services or build the foundational infrastructure that would potentiallly help other builders as well. That decision led to the birth of IFÁ LABS

What is IFÁ Labs?

IFÁ Labs is an onchain trustless oracle network providing accurate, real-time data for local stablecoins and other financial instruments - onchain and offchain. Starting with Africa and scaling globally, we’re building tools that will empower local builders to build. On top of that is our oracle-based swap protocol engineered for stablecoin-to-stablecoin transactions. Unlike traditional AMMs, it prioritizes price stability, low slippage, and efficient execution - minimizing volatility and eliminating impermanent loss.

What Problem Are We Solving?

With the growing evolution, adoption, and diversification of stablecoins on Base - emphasized by Jesse and Brian's recent tweet, my team and I envisaged a critical gap in onchain Accessibility and Interoperability amongst these assets.

PROBLEM

1. Limitation in Stablecoin Accessibility Onchain

According to Cointelegraph, approximately 86.95% of DeFi products rely on Chainlink, Pyth, WINkLink, Switchboard, and Chronicle for price data.

<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/baac9a714a98f3b1b1074ca2b2a80399787602f2149cba4d91a8093790753ff7.png" alt="Chart depicting the market share of the top Oracle providers. Source: DefiLlama

However, none of these oracle providers currently support price feeds for local stablecoins on Base. After conducting a deeper research, I found that their listing requirements are nearly impossible for most local stablecoin issuers to meet. This creates barrier to adoption, stunting the growth and integration of local stablecoins within and beyond the ecosystem. As a result, builders are often left with no choice but to either pivot away from stablecoin-focused products or rely on offchain oracles, which compromise decentralization and reliability.

2. Stablecoin Interoperability/swap Inefficiency

Uniswap is widely used as the default swap solution for most Ethereum, Base, and broader EVM ecosystem builders, as well as everyday users, with thousands of liquidity pools across multiple chains. However, when it comes to stablecoins, Uniswap’s Automated Market Maker (AMM) model presents several inefficiencies. Issues such as price volatility, slippage, and impermanent loss make it less reliable for stablecoin-to-stablecoin swaps, which require high precision and minimal exposure to volatility. Furthermore, most local stablecoins do not have dedicated liquidity pools on Uniswap, making interoperability and trading challenging.

<img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/papyrus_images/4678e46aaa9a5e002dc3978f1acf4fcca0ebce64c8e0e061d6002594a30aafbb.png" alt="The image above shows "no route available" for TRYB/IDRX pool. By providing reliable, auditable onchain price feeds for assets like cNGN, ZARP, CADC, BRZ, EURC, USDC, TRYB, IDRX, MXNe, NZDD and others as they evolve, we empower developers and issuers to build efficiently.

Alongside this, our oracle-based swap protocol is engineered for stablecoin-to-stablecoin transactions. No one grasps the struggle of moving money across borders with sky-high fees like the migrant worker trying to send money home. This is why African-led innovation matters. Most solutions we consume are carefully built to solve their problems abroad.

However, local builders have a priceless advantage: context and a large market. If every student knew that they could build solutions not just for today, but for generations.

It’s not just about building for Africa. It’s about building with Africa.
