DANIEL DENVIR

I feel like what’s most shocking to people is that the election results could be so close after Trump presided over the worst year in many American’s living memory. How can it be that this pandemic solidified support for Trump among so many, to the extent that he could actually expand his base? Not enough to win, it seems, but expand it. Is it that Trump’s handling of the coronavirus perversely normalized the pandemic? And so what should have been this false choice — between getting the pandemic under control and boosting the economy — turned into, for many people, a zero-sum choice between lockdown and reopening? Or is it the deep racial and class disparities, and how the pandemic’s health and economic crises have been experienced? How has COVID shaped this week?

CORNEL WEST

You know, there’s just so many factors that go into this. It’s the same kind of denial as the denial of predatory capitalism. The denial of America as an empire and its 800 military units around the world. The denial of the centrality of white supremacy in the shaping of how America developed. And all these forms of denial just get extended to the denial of the vicious impact of the pandemic. It’s the Disneyland sensibilities, the Peter Pan orientation, you see, that you can be fifty-five years old and try to convince yourself you’re Peter Pan because you never want to grow up.

It’s just a certain kind of psychic immaturity and spiritual refusal to mature. And then you always fall back on your political options. You only got two: neoliberalism, which is dead as a doornail, or neofascism, which is so exciting. The rallies; its oppositionality. It’s subversive to the liberals: “The liberals hate us, that makes me feel so good. Ooh, CNN and MSNBC really hate us. So, oh, I feel so good because I know how limited they are.”

And, you see, in the end, these two positions become parasitic on each other. The neoliberal becomes parasitic on the neofascist, and we can’t even get a left-wing alternative. And yet it’s still something we have to oppose on the ground practically. And we even have to have these brief alliances with neoliberal centrists in order to push back the fascists. But we have to be very honest and candid about the degree to which the neoliberals, at the top, are still very much part of a ruling class that’s crushing poor people, that’s crushing working people with its greed, its indifference, its callousness toward social misery. It is denial to think that somehow those chickens won’t come home to roost. To think that somehow you’re not going to reap what you sow, given that kind of greed, and indifference, and contempt, really, for so many poor and working people.

But then there’s also the cultural issue, you know, of abortion, and same-sex marriage, and so forth. And so there’s so many different variables here, we don’t have an overarching analysis of this. I just read Simon Reid-Henry’s book, Empire of Democracy. He takes a stab at an analysis of the reshaping of the West after the Cold War. And he does a decent job, but we need to keep track much more closely of the role of the financial elites and the practices of predatory capitalism than he does. But he does a decent job.

But we still need more thinking about this to help us to see more clearly. Remember that wonderful moment in Max Weber’s Science as a Vocation where he says that one of the roles of the thinkers and intellectuals is to provide intellectual clarity? How do we see what’s going on behind the surfaces and the appearances? How do you keep track of the various cliques and formations within the ruling class? Because we’re at a moment now where the ruling classes are at each other’s throat.

The neoliberal wing of the ruling class is at the throat of the neofascist wing of the ruling class. But large numbers of Americans choose to do what? Have nothing to do with it. How many millions refuse to vote? That’s another kind of option, too. It’s not just the three options of neoliberal, neofascist, and radical democratic socialism. A large number of our fellow citizens said, forget it. You know, “the whole thing is professional wrestling, it’s already set up. I’m just going to go about my business.” And what does that do? It reinforces the structures of domination, reinforces the status quo in the form of a symbolic rejection.

I view Chile’s Broad Front pandemic policy platform and laws since early 2020 as mid 90s to mid 00s Anti Hero (mid 90s- mid 00s Anti Heroes are more heroic and less bad than 90s Anti Heroes (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NinetiesAntiHero#:\~:text='90s%20Anti%2DHeroes%20are%20the,re%20doing%20at%20the%20moment.) but still not as heroic or good as regular Anti Heroes).

I feel if for no other reason that a country like Chile deserves those type of pandemic policies and laws (well that and because I am loyal to the left wing in Chile which includes Gabriel Boric's leftist parties and alliances)

Russia had nothing to do with the Canadian trucker protest. Every bad thing that happens in the US/Canada is not because of Russia or Vladimir Putin. Only Russophobic crackpots would say otherwise

I am mixed to pragmatically neutral on Bill Maher's late Oct 2021 view on natural immunity

It's wrong , mean, and defamatory to call anti vaxxers or anti restriction/anti lockdown people 'pro co vid' or to want to deny them medical help. Many people who are not hardcore right wingers have such views

I am fine with the peaceful Trucker Freedom convoy protesters but I don't condone or endorse the ones who shut everything down (assuming they did but whatever)

I also don't believe most of hem are racists or neo nazis. Justin Trudeau was wrong to smear them harsh labels and I echo Bill Maher on his comeback to that. It was also wrong to freeze their bank accounts and to shut their businesses down. As for both sides (the government and some protesters) allegedly shutting businesses down, two wrongs don't make a right

Australia went too far with their pandemic restrictions, mandates and lockdowns. This of course is ironic since most Australians are descended from British criminals who were forced to settle in Australia (since Australia was founded by the UK as a penal colony). So I guess if you look at it that way, the pandemic restrictions, mandates and lockdowns in Australia were being consistent with Australia's founding principles (of being a penal colony) and letting Australians get a taste of what their criminal ancestors went through there

I appreciate the fact that leftist anti vaxx, anti lockdown and anti restriction protesters get blowback, critique and heat by Liberal 2.0ers and fellow leftists for having anti vaxx, anti lockdown and anti restriction views.

I appreciate this blowback, critique and heat by Liberals, Libs and other lefltists toward the anti vaxx, anti lockdown and anti restriction leftists because that shows that Liberals, Libs and other lefltists are consistent and not hypocritical on hot button issues like the virus/pandemic.

I also feel like this because leftists who are anti vaxx, anti lockdown and anti restriction are even more sanctimonious and Liberals, Libs and other lefltist like in protesting against pandemic restrictions, mandates and lockdowns than right wing people are , it's annoying when right wingers do it but when leftists do it it is so over the top and cringe I beg for the Liberals, Libs and other lefltist and other leftists to call them out for it

I don't think Ron Desantis is a murderer or 'obsessed with death'. I think his heart was in the best place

I live in Florida and maybe I am biased, but I think he did a meh+ job if not somewhat extremely decent job with our state during the pandemic. I guess its because of propaganda but I get the sense from Ron that he thought he was doing a pro freedom, pro liberty type of thing by easing up on the pandemic laws.

Floridians like me who didn't take the bait by Desantis in 'being free' in 2020 and 2021 when he said we could do so deserve compensation for us not taking the bait (though my reasons for not going out much then had nothing to do with the virus, I also didn't go out much in 2018 and 2019 also).

He didn't want the economy to collapse so no matter how hard we go at him with pro science arguments on this that excuse will always be what he throws at us .

At the very least we have to respect him for doing something unique. Keep in mind some Democrats in Florida called him Mr Lockdown guy

That is because he rightfully or Wrongfully issued stay at home orders early in the pandemic which prevented countless lives from being added to the co vid victim list. Anyway despite what I wrote above, I still will call him Ron 'Deathsantis' however

Joy Reid and other Liberals/Libs and leftists had a right to be skeptical of the vaxx in 2020 because they think that DJT who was working on getting scientists to develop the vaxx , is a modern day Josef Mengele so its natural and understandable for them to question to question a vaxx that was DJT had input on.

We left wing pro vaxxers should not pride ourselves on our supposed moral superiority to left wing anti vaxxers (or possibly not pride ourselves on our supposed superiority to even right wing anti vaxxers but very maybe not)

The reason being we left wing pro vaxxers might have been anti vaxx like those left wing anti vaxxers (or possibly even anti vaxx like those right wing anti vaxxers but very maybe not) if we had a different life and upbringing.

We should debate anti vaxxers as it is a deeply divisive issue, however, the tone of that debate should not cause us left wing pro vaxxers to despise left wing anti vaxxers (and not want to literally bash the snot out of right wing anti vaxxers) no matter how wrong they might be. Fostering such disdain isn’t only unjust, but imprudent too, since a healthy (no pun intended) country requires some semblance of affection among its citizens as opposed to mutual animosities

I do hope people are restricted like they were during the pandemic but permanently, for reasons that have NOTHING to do with health and only to restrict them from doing recreational things in public

People are so brainwashed to do recreational things in public like in person theme parks, in person concerts, in person sporting events, in person conventions, in person porn, traveling by flight long distances, in person night clubs, in person parties, in person holiday events etc, that I would love seeing them be forced by law to permanently stop doing those things via restrictions and thus be as restricted from doing those things in the future as they were restricted from doing those things in 2020, 2021 (some right wingers would also have this view but not for my reasons but purely out of spite for co vid restrictions in 2020 2021 etc)

I have no issues with Russia's Sputnik vaxx. To Liberals, Libs and leftists (and neocons), don't criticize me for stating this, the Sputnik vaxx being so ineffective actually makes Russian soliders easy prey for NATO and Ukrainian soldiers to defeat so you should be happy the Sputnik vaxx isn't effective

I am fine with the Atlantic's article in 2022 which calls for mandates to end.

I conditionally vote not present lean conditional mild support for Mike Braun's amendment to the Prevent Pandemics Act.

Since February 2022 I no longer give off any oppositional vibes on Nancy Pelosi's mask mandates being overturned allowing congress people to the freedom to choose if they want to cover their faces in the HoR.(not that I ever was a radical cheerleader for such draconian [ymmv] measures such as Nancy's mask mandates to begin with)

I am begrudgingly tolerant of Joe Rogan in the whole Spotify ordeal and I have no major issues I know of with him having those particular doctors on his show in those situations.

Joe Rogan also surprisingly had a plausible defense even though he provided no evidence whatsoever and he may have taken things he cited in his defense out of context. My views on this aren't that far off from aligning with Marianne Williamson's views on that issue.

I am sensitive with the way Boris Johnson and his Conservative party handled the pandemic . Though I wouldn't go as far as to demand that the Conservative Party UK apologize for lockdowns (even if doing so would theoretically win anti science people to the Conservative Party UK side). I am too stubborn to go that far. The UK handled it like the US did and regardless of our views on the pandemic that is a fact

I am Anti centrist/radical centrist-Objectivist to Christian Democratic on some of what Larry Sanger said about the pandemic mandates, restrictions, lockdowns etc . This isn't to say that I agree with his views on those subjects really, it's just I have weirdly syncretic/variable and off compass views on his views on those subjects.

Keep in mind that Larry Sanger co created Wikipedia which is super pro science and Sanger has at least some of that pro science in him somewhere because of that Moreover, I am afraid to criticize Larry's views on the pandemic since he harshly criticizes people and so he would criticize me for criticizing his views. So like Niles being afraid of Stefano snapping at him as seen in this episode , I am similarly afraid of Larry Sanger snapping at me (which may happen if I criticize his pandemic views), so hence I won't criticize his pandemic views

I have no issues with Adam Kinzinger’s anti China comments in 2020 (in relation to the pandemic). China is a mess of an issue in terms of how syncretic and weird China's policies are. At the very least it was good to hear Adam criticize someone other than Republicans (since Adam beating a dead horse even ones like the Repbulican party gets old after awhile)

It is sad and unfortunate that anti vaxxers think they are being persecuted

I have no major issues if any with the Defeat the Mandate and they might be in the right

I wonder why 'pro co vid' people never embraced forced herd immunity as that would be a perfect match for their sick views on the pandemic.

I will concede that as fucked up as forced herd immunity is , forced herd immunity is still a better and more tasteful idea than the 'go back to normal' decree by MSM , corporations and pro vaxx, pro restriction and pro lockdown Liberals, Libs, radical progressives (a decree to nudge people after the pandemic to go out again and live like they did pre pandemic)

I don't think this meme is that far off from being correct but it should apply to people of all sexual orientations not just queer people.

Orgies in particular should have been banned during monkeypox

I echo Emma Vigeland’s pro union and pro worker counter to Jimmy Dore’s anti pandemic restriction views she made on the Majority Report

I in some ways agree (or at least I am open hearted to) with the Grayzone articles on the pandemic like below:

https://thegrayzone.com/2021/08/13/cdc-fda-women-covid-19-vaccines-menstrual-disruption/

I think justified paranoia about imperialist control of media really can poison some people (Glenn Greenwald, e.g.) into thinking any and everything liberals support is bad. This is why you need Marxism, not just hatred of America. You also need hatred of America, but not just that. SLS

Ron Desantis wasn’t as libertarian as he’d like you to believe on the virus but of course like me he had mixed and conflicting views on it.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4140191/posts

There are questions on whether the co vid vaxx actually stops spread of the virus, this NYT piece here is what I feel at minimum on that:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/23/opinion/covid-vaccines-transmission.html

https://thegrayzone.com/2021/12/24/leaked-files-syria-psyops-astroturfing-breadtube-covid/

https://thegrayzone.com/2021/12/03/flattening-curve-global-poor-covid-lockdowns-human-rights-vulnerable/

https://thegrayzone.com/2022/02/18/hacking-canadian-trucker-convoy-us-canadian-intelligence-operation/

I don’t know what to make of C.S Lewis’s fake quote here :

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/06/30/fact-check-1942-c-s-lewis-so-many-souls-quote-fake/3284214001/

I echo all the diverse and various points on co- vid and restrictions from this thread below:

https://thegrayzone.com/2022/03/31/left-covid-lockdowns-mind-autopsy/

https://archive.ph/1IkoI

https://www.reddit.com/r/stupidpol/comments/ttctfn/how_the_organized_left_got_covid_wrong_learned_to/

Love this point and I agree with it: I remember plenty of left-wing groups articulating 'correct responses' back in early 2020: that the governments of the world should act quickly and decisively to trace and isolate COVID before it spread globally. That people should come together to protect and help the most vulnerable to infection, and that workers should be protected from infection and compensated if they can't work safely. All those statements were ignored because those lefty groups have no political power or clout among workers. The nations of the world instead embarked on their own half-assed responses to the pandemic, and we've spent the last two years endlessly arguing over which shitty policy decisions were 'less bad' or 'more justified'.

It's the same thing with the current war in Ukraine. The ideal (some sort of international peace movement which could stop the warmongers and push for socialism) is nowhere to be found. So instead we all have to argue endlessly on the internet about which party of bloodthirsty capitalists is 'less bad' or 'more justified' for their part in the ongoing invasion.

"Trust the experts." The left can't bring themselves to oppose the technocratic masters of neoliberalism and thus show they will never be a serious threat to existing systems of power. We're going to overthrow the bourgeois system, assuming of course the heads of bourgeois institutions give us permission first.

Which is why it is important to provide a set of general rules to follow to protect these vulnerable workers, like getting vaccinated and masking up in shops

It feels like people who support masking are operating under the assumption that it actually contributes towards a goal, but they never say what that goal is. Clearly it isn't "ending transmission", because even the priestly experts who have kept the psyop going have admitted they don't help in that sense. So what is it?

Even if masks worked on a mechanical level, the relevant question is whether they work on a POPULATION level to achieve a defined endpoint. If you never define an endpoint, you can't confidently proclaim they "work" as an intervention. If everyone is going to get COVID eventually -- and we are -- then on what level can you say that masks work? Again, even if they DO work mechanically, the only thing that might follow is that they slow transmission. Okay, but "slowing the spread" is not an endpoint. With vaccines, the endpoint is severe illness. That's how we define efficacy and success. We measure against your likelihood of severe illness had you not received the treatment.

There is no such endpoint when it comes to masks. It's not even that they have no efficacy -- it's that we have a completely null concept of what efficacy even means when we talk about them. The same is true of every NPI. This is why NPIs are self-perpetuating. We have no conception of what it means for them to "work" other than as a method of buying time. That's all they can ever do. But buying time is not an endpoint. It's the opposite of an endpoint, it's a stopgap. And we're on the other side of that gap now. When someone says "masks work" or "distancing works", know that they are making a completely empty statement even under the most generous and charitable assumptions.

In fact, we already knew that masks didn't work to stop the spread even before this pandemic. It was known in epidemiology. It turns out that The Science™ is just a constantly shapeshifting abstraction that mutates in whichever way the ruling class wants it to!

Now we have billions of plastic facemasks in the oceans, and our children are facing severe learning impairments, not to mention the negative effects on ocular health -- prolonged and inadequate use of masks has led to a big increase in blepharitis and chalazions.

Masks are bad for plenty of reasons, not least of which is the fact the marginal benefit it provides (if any) is dwarfed by the amount of attention it took away from policies that could have actually helped people. It's absolutely astounding that we STILL tolerate this type of directionless policy, and the left seems fatally incapable of questioning it.

Lmao the "we didn't lock down hard enough" sentiment is just as delusional as zero covid lunacy, for the exact same reasons. It is unbelievable how much this opinion still lingers on the left.

Now compare obesity rates, labor laws, and healthcare systems.

In any case, plenty of evidence suggests that "COVID deaths" have been inflated by the timely introduction of new medical protocols instructing medical professionals to certify Covid-19 as cause of death when it is merely assumed to have caused or contributed to causing death, and even without clinical verification. In the WHO’s words: “always apply these instructions, whether they can be considered medically correct or not.”

t is hard to destroy your own cause and feel righteous while doing so, yet the American left has done it. After more than two centuries at the vanguard of the struggle for freedom, the American left, broadly defined, executed a volte face and embraced anti-working-class policies marketed as purely technical public health measures. For two years the left has championed policies of surveillance and exclusion in the form of: punitive vaccine mandates, invasive vaccine passports, socially destructive lockdowns, and radically unaccountable censorship by large media and technology corporations. For the entire pandemic, leftists and liberals – call them the Lockdown Left – cheered on unprecedented levels of repression aimed primarily at the working class – those who could not afford private schools and could not comfortably telecommute from second homes.

Almost the entire left intelligentsia has remained psychically stuck in March 2020. Its members have applauded the new biosecurity repression and calumniated as liars, grifters, and fascists any and all who dissented. Typically, they did so without even engaging evidence and while shirking public debate. Among the most visible in this has been Noam Chomsky, the self-described anarcho-syndicalist who called for the unvaccinated to “remove themselves from society,” and suggested that they should be allowed to go hungry if they refuse to submit. [1]

In Jacobin, a magazine claiming to support the working class in all its struggles, Branko Marcetic demanded the unvaccinated be barred from public transportation: “one obvious course of action is for Biden to make vaccines a requirement for mass transport.” [2] Journalist Doug Henwood has scolded the unvaccinated with: “Get over your own bloated sense of self-importance.” [3] But Henwood has championed shutting down all of society in the name of safety, while refusing to engage counter-arguments – a combination that suggests a bloated sense of self-importance of his own.

Other left intellectuals, like Benjamin Bratton, author of a Verso book on the pandemic called Return of the Real, are notable for hiding amidst academic blather: “the book’s argument is on behalf [of] a ‘positive biopolitics’ that may form the basis of viable social self-organization, but this is less a statement on behalf of ‘the political’ in some metaphysical sense than on behalf of a governmentality through which an inevitably planetary society can deliberately compose itself.” [4] This is, as the late Alex Cockburn once said, “what dumb people think smart people sound like.”

Even the American Civil Liberties Union – long a bastion of objective thinking and civil liberties absolutism – has supported the mandates, lockdowns, and censorship. David Cole, the group’s legal director, debased himself in the New York Times with a tortured op-ed explaining how everything the ACLU stood for over the last 100 years suddenly did not apply during the season of freakout and overreach.5

When activist left influencers did stray from the official line, it was to occasionally harumph about how school closure would be ok if we just had “free childcare for all.” That argument is so flimsy one wants to respond with: “Yes, and let’s call these new socialist childcare centers: public schools!”

All of this unmasks the Lockdown Left’s blue-city provincialism. Its adherents drink high-quality coffee and enjoy bike lanes, but have revealed themselves to be as narrow-minded, clannish, mean-spirited and faith-based as any group of small-town “deplorables” might be. If you don’t agree with the consensus in Cambridge, Brooklyn, Bethesda, or Berkeley, then you are very obviously insane. End of story. For this set, Covid vaccines have become a fetish, a talisman to wave against the specter of “contagion”; while lockdowns and censorship are treated as purely technical, apolitical interventions. Prominent left intellectuals have embraced the weaponization of solidarity and made it into a lifestyle via their obsessive masking, scolding, and hiding. They pretend to care for society while actually applauding deeply anti-social and scientifically ungrounded policies like the indefinite shuttering of schools.

All of this is contingent upon the status of Lockdown Leftists as relatively privileged laptop workers who can operate from the comfort of home, dependent on anonymous “frontline workers” ferrying food and Amazon packages to their doorstep. Prior to the pandemic quarantines, many left intellectuals already lived as if they were on lockdown. I know this because I am part of that class.

Never mind that we are in the tightest labor market in 40 years and should be encouraging workers to unite and fight the bosses for better conditions. Instead, most of the left – including some trade unions – has supported measures that divide, distract, and intimidate the working class. It is a tragic and disturbing spectacle.

The socialist left, which wants to use state power to discipline capital has instead accepted the negative image of its goal: state power used to bully, harass, and discipline workers. The left’s embrace of Covid hysteria makes a mockery of the left’s goals of planning, industrial policy, economic redistribution, worker empowerment, and environmental sustainability. This leftwing self-harm will have deleterious consequences for years to come. Indeed, the situation is worse than a mere political fumble. The left is now actively helping its own enemies. In its unwavering support for mandates, passports, punitive lockdowns, and censorship, the organized left has sided with technocratic elites, the one percent, and the repressive state apparatus everywhere.

Even as politicians climb down from two years of pandemic overreach, the left continues to demand more covid repression and does nothing to oppose punitive vaccine mandates that have driven many thousands of workers out of their jobs – almost 3,000 public workers in NYC alone. For example, my union – the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) representing faculty and staff at the City University of New York (CUNY) and run by a self-consciously “left” clique – continues to demand that all CUNY workers submit to vaccination even as the administration had long ago settled into a workable “vax or test” system.

Worse yet, the PSC seems not to realize that its crusade may invite lawsuits that could fatally undermine the ironclad protections of academic tenure. If the union were to prevail against dissident members in court, their victory would, in effect, reduce tenure to merely another form of routinely breakable contract. University administrators across the country, eager to degrade and casualize academic labor, know this and will be watching with anticipation.

At John Jay College, where I work, the PSC demands vaccination policies – take the jab or be fired – even as a staggering 44% of the non-teaching staff remained unvaccinated as of late February 2022.6 And the union remains obtusely fixated on vaccines despite the fact that not even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains that vaccines stop or reduce Covid transmission. Director Rochelle Walensky volunteered this fact during an August 5, 2021 interview with Wolf Blitzer. [7] These days, the Lockdown Left still clings to the vaccine myth.

Covid repression portrays itself as apolitical and purely “scientific.” Sadly, most leftists accept this canard. But class war from above is always masked as “merely technical.” Proponents of the War on Drugs never described their open-ended campaign of domestic repression and surveillance as a war on workers and the poor. Likewise, proponents of the War on Terror never described their campaign of forever wars as a permanent assault on the Global South and a war to maintain American hegemony. The left saw through those concoctions. We opposed drug testing not because we were in favor of sharing the road with stoned truck drivers, but rather because we saw the political utility and inherent value in workers having autonomy from coercion by bosses. Alas, the War on Covid, has (at least temporarily) erased our side’s analytic capacities. For large parts of the left it is still March 2020.

from sim thread stpld anti vaxx anti restr true left position ,stupdpolers right wing, no left wing in us

Divide & conquer.

on virus in general

My views on co vid and co vid restrictions are value judgements for me. As such, I believe that there is no correct response. I do battle with my political enemies, ceaselessly into eternity. stupdl

A lot of my views on co vid and the restrictions from it mesh with Krystal Ball’s views on this

restrictions

I conditionally and overall support Florida’s stance here below. I have seen the ‘don’t vaxx kids’ arguments in many places online from all sides of the political spectrum and that convinced me on this. Healthy kids are not anywhere near at risk to get the virus. Conditionally and overall I feel that ealthy kids should not (and should never have gotten) get the co vid vaxx.

https://nypost.com/2022/03/07/florida-to-become-1st-state-to-recommend-against-covid-vaccine-for-healthy-kids/

I echo the Jacobin article "“How Liberals Inflame the Vaccine War”

Some of my thoughts on some leftist anti vaxx, anti restriction etc protesters can be seen here

https://mirror.xyz/0x74Bdd4eA33A5454d9430Bee258790229d8188CEC/ujql3xU219noplnKsX75QcphIEc-MGEzud4jGcbFEwg

Anti mandate, Anti lockdown and anti restriction people are correct on at least 12 percent of the time (an extremely conservative estimate from me due to optics) on co vid related issues. To think the they are wrong 100 percent of the time on co vid related issues is naive, unrealistic and in fact ignorant (unless of course pro mandate, pro lockdown and pro restriction people move the goal posts )

I am apolitical mixed on pandemic restrictions and mandates. I don't view the pandemic as a political issue (but I am fine with it being a political issue)

I actually respect (and like the spunk of) the Democrats and Liberal 2.0ers as a whole for implementing harsh co vid mandates, lockdowns and restrictions because it is refreshing to see Democrats and Liberal 2.0ers as a whole get firm and tough on an issue (like the pandemic) instead of being woke snowflake pacifists (which the Democrats and Liberal 2.0ers would be if they weren't firm and tough on people and in particular anti vaxxers during the pandemic) . I support vaxx/anti vaxx apartheid /irony

A lot of Republicans falsely think Democrats/Liberal 2.0ers weak and let people do anything they want on many political issues, so for the Democrats and Liberal 2.0ers to be so firm and tough on people and in particular anti vaxxers/ 'pro co vid people' in terms of mandates , lockdowns and restrictions during the pandemic shows the Republicans that they are wrong about the Democrats and Liberal 2.0ers being weak and passive.

I disagree with people who say that Gavin Newsom didn't go far enough in 2020-21 in terms of fighting the viruses (except if they say that out of spite for him going too far than I agree with them)

Part of why I am not as pro co veed restriction as Liberal 2.0ers like is because virus mandates, restrictions and lockdowns hurt BIPOC+and poc in particular the most . They went through enough in 2020 with the anti black violence by our anti black structures (like the police), so for BIPOC/poc to also have to endure virus mandates, restrictions and lockdowns on top of that is too much to bear so I take some of that burden away for them.

Seeing anti vaxxers and anti restriction/anti mandate people employ Liberal 2.0 tactics to combat the mandates, restrictions, lockdowns etc keeps me from empathizing with those anti vaxxers and anti restriction/anti mandate people

Ben Shapiro was base (base means you agree with something; or when you want to recognize someone for being themselves, i.e. courageous and unique or not caring what others think) or suggesting that unvaxxed people should be forcefully vaxxed. But I also think Ben was base with his view here

https://choiceclips.whatfinger.com/2021/12/14/ben-shapiro-the-left-will-never-let-you-go-back-to-normal-desantis-no-reason-for-any-restrictions-anywhere/

that he expressed (and a similar view by Andrea Lynn who is a female version of Ben Shapiro). I can related to Ben Shapiro having schizo synthetic thinking views on the pandemic since I do too

I second a lot of things that RFK Jr said about the pandemic restrictions and virus. I mean his dad was RFK (who I am a fan of) so that alone gives RFK Jr much cred with me

I condone (but don't necessarily agree with) Gene Simmons saying that non vaxxed are the enemy

Sara Haines is wrong. Masks due to the co veed virus will NOT and should not be a permanent thing in the US or anywhere. I can justify people in the US etc wearing masks more in public each year permanently due to fashion trends, flu prevention and staying healthy in general but I will not not justify them doing so on a permanent basis due to the never ending cycle of co veed

I am against laws that require people to show their faces in public.

I am pro vaxx even if it is known by mentally ill MAGA supporters as the 'Donald Trump vaxx' .

I think if I had Donald Trump's MAGA EGO, I would say ' it is so ironic and poetic justice that something that DJT helped create (the vaxx) has helped millions of people not be infected with the virus' . But I won't say that since i don't have a MAGA ego. I will instead simply echo what the Washington Post said to Joe Biden on this 'Trump takes credit for vaxx' rhetoric (in which the Washpost told Biden to get MAGA people to get the vaxx by crediting Trump with the vaxx)

I support Piers Corbyn's right to protest vaxxs at that vaxx clinic in Britain in 2021. I feel it was an amusing and bold move for Pier Corbyn to protest people getting vaxxed like he did. But if i was there, I would have literally thrown him and his anti vaxx allies out of that clinic like Uncle Phil through Jazzy Jeff out of his home on the Fresh Prince (since I relatively like Uncle Phil's brand of Conservatism)

I believe that if people from Earth could have teleported to ET countries on other planets in other solar systems, galaxies or universes during the pandemic (like in 2020, 2021 etc) that those people from Earth who teleported should have done so (even if they were unvaxxed) and done so without social distancing, without covering their face, without self isolating and without mentioning to the intelligent life extraterrestrials on those other planets in other solar systems, galaxies or universes that they were coming from a planet (Earth) where there was a pandemic occurring.

All intelligent life extraterrestrials on other planets in other solar systems, galaxies and universes are immune to all of our viruses since intelligent life extraterrestrials on other planets in other solar systems, galaxies and universes are not human

In 2020 and 2021 , every person who rode a bike without a helmet but with their face covered should either have also not have had their face covered while riding the bike (since they were already being risk takers) or should have worn a helmet along with their mask while riding their bike. CONSISTENCY PEOPLE

I am against Big pharma

A lot of my other views on the mandates, restrictions, vaxx match the Libertarian faction of the Democrat Party’s platform/views on that stuff

State health

I rationalize Anthony Fauci implementing authoritarian pandemic restrictions. Why? DJT made Anthony Fauci our temporary 'President' in 2020 and so because of that AND due to being a health nut that all scientists and doctors are, it is expected that Anthony Fauci would implement such restrictions on the US.

The CDC and Anthony Fauci did better with the pandemic than Republicans and leftist anti vaxxers, anti restriction people and anti lockdown people thought but that is not good enough especially since i hold the legacy health department (the CDC) and Mr Science himself (Anthony Fauci) to a higher standard since they see themselves as being so esteemed

I am also fine with Anthony Fauci’s niece working for Twitter. i figure if Twitter is going to censor non main stream co vid info, having Anthony Fauci’s niece working for Twitter gives them an excuse to to do so

I do appreciate Ron Johnson's pandemic hearing early in the year on the pandemic to give more perspectives on this issue. As long as it didn't delve into anti science territory, there was no harm with those hearings .

I mean me opposing our government from talking about one of the biggest issues of our time (the pandemic) would make me look insensitive, selfish and basically like DJT in February and early March 2020 (when DJT wanted to pretend there was no pandemic happening)

Krysten Sinema politically dealt with the pandemic better than the vast majority of Democrats did

Jimmy Dore’s pandemic views have a few broken clock moments here and there but he is too daring on this topic. Dore should put more energy on making healthcare accessible and affordable to people than him criticizing pandemic restrictions, mandates and lockdowns. The former would do more help than the latter

China should have acted against the virus in late 2019 NOT against the whistle blowers. Shame on China for their response to the virus in late 2019:

From the Atlantic “China has a history of mishandling outbreaks, including SARS in 2002 and 2003. But Chinese leaders’ negligence in December and January—for well over a month after the first outbreak in Wuhan—far surpasses those bungled responses. The end of last year was the time for authorities to act, and, as Nicholas D. Kristof of The New York Times has noted, “act decisively they did—not against the virus, but against whistle-blowers who were trying to call attention to the public health threat.”

loxdowns

I wonder what would have happened if the US dealt with the co veed pandemic the same exact way the US dealt with the 1968 HK Influenza flu (like see

http://web.archive.org/web/20201029031416/https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2020/04/28/how-different-we-treated-the-hong-kong-flu-pandemic-of-1968-n135718

) Though maybe if they used the 1968 pandemic method in 2020 there would have been a collapse of hospital systems around the world, which might have killed something on the order of 40 million people by the worst estimates. That would have been twice as bad as the Spanish Flu, though in a population four times greater than the population of 1918. Not puny numbers by any stretch, though humanity has seen much worse like the AIDS virus for example

My position on lockdowns as a Left winger and Marxist would seem to indicate that I demand early and comprehensive lockdowns alongside adequate economic relief for workers. I mean as a Left winger and Marxist you would think that anything else by me on lockdowns is either unworkable or benefits the ruling class at the expense of workers.

After all, public fear of the virus is what's at least somewhat responsible for the overwhelming majority of job losses, with or without lockdowns right? The virus is also the cause for the lockdowns themselves and any additional economic losses those bring? (though Kristi Noem did say that the virus didn't cause lockdowns and restrictions, but the government and its allies did)

So really, it is perfectly reasonable for me, at least on paper as a left winger and Marxist to spout Liberal 2.0 talking points like

"by way of mandating disengagement from economic engagement, lockdowns end up accomplishing these two goals: they put the state on the hook for the economic hit and they ensure that the the inevitable decline in economic engagement truly translates into a decline in virus"

Why would I as a left winger and Marxist want to be seen as incoherent by being a 'one of those left winger/marxist anti lockdown dudes/dudettes'. Such incoherence is usually had whenever there are attempts to mix left and right after all

It is true though that since I support economic relief. if I was anti lockdown that would mean that by me being anti lockdown, I would be rooting for the state to not prevent people from working and shopping and thus indirectly and unbeknownst to myself I would be by extension rooting for something that causes the state to be off the hook for the economic hit that emerged from the pandemic which sadly would make economic relief less likely which can be seen in comparison to the UK and Canada lockdowns and the US lockdowns

So we can follow that line of thinking to this line of thinking 'income support for US workers is much less generous, and demands for direct income support are drowned out by demands to "assist workers" by forcing them back to work'

I have heard that leftist "anti-lockers" claim furthermore to represent the best intentions of the working class as opposed to the capitalists. Yet a significant chunk of the working class does not oppose lockdowns, with the majority of the militant opposition to lockdowns being from smaller and medium sized business, and supposed GOP front groups.

Big business does a-okay with or without soft lockdowns, yet a strong lockdown with liberal income support would be costly for them. Overall, the ruling class would be happy to simply force everyone back to work and into stores, and to pursue herd immunity for the working class. The capitalist state would then be off the hook for costly public health initiative and economic relief efforts.

In practice, all that the anti-lockers ultimately ensure and prolong rolling lockdowns. The pro and anti lockdown positions are absoutely symbiotic. When the virus is less virulent, anti-lockdowners could stall lockdowns. But this necessarily causes in the minds of Liberal 2.0ers unchecked spread, which in turn causes lockdowns to be inevitable.

At that point, the best that the anti-lockers are able to muster is them weakening the lockdown, and so prolonging it.

But, as seen by experience, they cannot prevent the inevitable. Then, when after these lockdown tactics occur and there is eventually a "flattened curve", the anti-lockdowners swing into action and call for reopening, which if there are fresh outbreaks causes them to get blamed for it (though it is rational to believe that the odds really do go up for an outbreak by such openings)

So the lockdown is never allowed to get the job done regardless of whether it would or not, which leads to the cycle of rolling lockdowns. And as such cycles go on and on if God forbid in some way new resistant strains emerge, this cycle keeps happening

The other side of this above view is from people that perceive these lockdowns as a textbook expression of social conflict theory. Where the wealthy weaponized the virus versus the poor and utilized it to accumulate incredible amounts of profit at the same time as restricting the movement of the poor and stripping their wealth away. This is the wealthy taking advantage of the hard truth that the majority of people can't afford to be locked down for long periods of time.

Basic Marxism does run contrariwise to my above pro lockdown views

I can't fall into the trap of me treating these lockdowns as if they are something that people are angry about because they got to stay at home 24/7 and are merely spoiled about it.

So some anti lockdowners (like the Mises caucus) perceive lockdowns the way they do as through almost a year plus of lock downs they've been subjected to live off, or potentially might have been subjected to live off of, of mere scraps from the federal government as the unemployment mechanisms of their states/provinces used almost collapsed. Famines or homelessness is merely as lethal as the virus itself in these cases

So this anti lockdown counterpoint gives me pause. And I can see why anti lockdowners who live in a country where the Government did not give them more money than the US gave to its citizens or a place with a lower cost of living than the US or at a job without the benefit of working from home would be anti lockdown and have their concerns

How am I going to filter between the evident real and propagandic critiques of China. My view is addressing the bigotry against the Chinese is the highest necessary part of it and the rest is an all encompassing grey area that will only lead to chasing our own tails and going after each other randomly. .

Maybe I can justify being pro lockdown by me saying 'opposing lockdowns in principle is the authoritarian position'

But I would come off as someone who sincerely believes the government by force preventing someone from leaving their home is not authoritarian and thus I would be seen as someone who cannot be reasoned with.

But maybe as a compromise I could view lockdowns as authoritarian but a more preferential authoritarianism in comparison to the assumed outcomes of libertarian views on the situation.

So my views on lockdowns follow the line of thought :

Now besides for the reason of my balanced views on lockdowns as mentioned above, I also won't criticize lockdowns because I give amnesty and forgiveness to the western governments and the US government for lockdowns and this article (

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/10/covid-response-forgiveness/671879/

) explains why

But John Hopkins had an interesting report (

https://www.investmentwatchblog.com/johns-hopkins-publishes-paper-saying-that-lockdowns-did-nothing-good-destroyed-economy-and-society/

) on lockdowns (plus there is this

https://www.bizpacreview.com/2020/10/22/pandemic-has-led-to-national-mental-health-crisis-american-psychological-association-survey-finds-987555

) . The USA Today gave an assessment of those findings by JHU and basically downplayed them or was more open to them than the solid of majority of Liberal 2.0 MSM outlets in the process.

Due to my above balanced views on lockdowns, I am somewhere in the middle between JHU and USA Today on JHU’s findings on lockdowns and where exactly I am in the middle of that depends on my mood. Don't worry, I will never go as far at the Washington Times does here

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/jun/30/covid-19-lockdowns-caused-more-deaths-instead-of-r/

in saying lockdowns were bad. But then again, I am not in the 'lockdown analysis' business so I will comment no further

China implemented lockdowns and the US and other countries just copied them and didn't take the time needed to research the lockdowns.

China's zero co veed lockdowns are harsh, wrong and fascist. They violated human rights with their lockdowns . I am as against China's zero co veed lockdowns as much as the most anti lockdown protesters in the US, the UK etc were against lockdowns in those countries. Even if not, there could be a placebo effect with that treatment for mainstream scientists and doctors which while it doesn't cure patients it at least pushes mainstream scientists and doctors to come up with more effective and more user friendly treatments and cures for the virus

I am pitifully cautiously somewhat barely supportive of Dr Oz's reaction to his wife not allowing their kids to be vaxxed years ago .

Based on this Based on this article:

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-trudeau-china-protests/

Justin's clarification is nuts and people eat it up, since it just amounts to him saying "state sanctioned means of protest are good. non-state sanctioned means of protest are dangerous". Golly gee, I wonder if the state has any incentive to sanction and encourage ineffectual means of protest. Freaking rubes.

Yes the freedom convoy was blocking international borders preventing trade and annoying the whole city of Ottawa. Yes they didn’t allow people sleep for weeks due to their incessant honking. Yes in Alberta they tried to be gun toting cowboys like in the wild Wild West. But the freedom convoy was still a protest. Maybe if the freedom convoy protesters held up signs saying 'my body my choice' or took a knee Justin would have supported it?

Though Justin isn't being hypocritical if you see his thinking as him opposing the freedom convoy since that convoy hurt the economy in Canada but him supporting the China anti lockdown protests is because he rightfully sees those lockdowns as human rights violations. Though Justin being consistent here can be seen as consistent as him dressing up in blackface for his friends, and then using BLM instead of truly supporting their aims

Though wouldn't Justin agreeing with China's government be more beneficial to the Canadian economy?

Though a few years ago, yes. A shitlib (Joe Biden) is back in control of the White House which means that trade wars with China are really a good thing now. Even Donald Trump’s poorly thought out tariffs that were seen as bad and absolutely ineffective are now a nuanced and vital part of US-Chinese relations.

Politics selects for statesmanship and ruthlessness, not ideals.

Though if anyone is hypocritical it is business magazines like the Financial Times, The Economist etc who put out articles every few days fuming about China's zero co-viid policy since those policies negatively affected supply chains. It's sort of comical seeing normie (western) social media recognize the hypocrisy over the MSM coverage of China's protests compared to their coverage of domestic protests. The CDN to these western media is an economic zone must be protected at all cost.

"Ottawa Citizen: Canadian bank CEOs told Freeland that 'Freedom Convoy' made Canada a 'joke'

The Emergencies Act response wasn't about safety, public order, or ear piercing truck horns, as much as it was about the fact that some bank CEOs were sad.

Though with the freedom convoy, the premiers of Ontario and Alberta asked Justin Trudeau for the help The issue wasn’t Canada having an overreaching government. The issue is the convoy wrote an MOU declaring themselves the government of Canada. They were seen by some unsympathetic Canadians as blocking trade and the truckers they said they were there supporting. In Alberta, they were seen by some to go further than that like with weapons to have a shoot ‘em up with the police. So I guess depending on your perspective it could go both ways with the freedom convoy

It's different since there was a neo n4z1 flag at that one freedom convou protest. Also, Canada has to send weapons and money to Ukrainians with 1488 tattoos.

Nope! The protests in Canada and China were not the same! Debaunked! They didn't actually weld persons into their homes! China = bad; Canada = good! Faux news! There was no point in being upset at the restrictions in Canada since it might have been worse! Fascist! The existence of any particular thing worse elsewhere is to say that everything that happens in Canada is a-okay and wonderful and not the time and effort of being upset over! source here /s

It doesn't matter that someone couldn't access their bank account for bail money since it was frozen by the government imprisioning them! Doesn't make a difference that Canadian banks might never allow these protesters to own a home ever! Did you see a welder? Thought so, nerd. (Source)

It's the same with all bourgeois dictatorships using the nebulous label of "Democracy".

Maybe its not hypocrisy with Justin being against the freedom convoy protests in Canada while supporting the ones in China ,maybe it is just Canadian Exceptionalism (or western hypocrisy). Or Canada like all shitlibs has a political position which basically comes down to 'only stuff i agree with shall be allowed' there is no reason to try and discuss beyond that.

The mental gymnastics and hand wringing about Canada and how they see China's protests as different than the freedom convoy is crazy. They think since there was a general approval for lockdowns and mandates (which got pretty overreaching) that Canadian freedom convoy protests was still an "unjust occupation" or some b.s

Isn’t the difference between the freedom convoy protests in Canada and anti lockdown protests China simply about how much of the peace was disturbed?

I don’t think the freedom convoy protests are bringing numerous people to one city center who stay overnight and are getting drunk, blocking streets, honking etc. I think that there was a more inherent negative bias to the freedom convoy based off of political views yet in my understanding some civilians in Ottawa were frustrated due to the disturbances.

And, everyone has fine and cringe people at protests thats the way it goes but some Canadians never have been scoulded for wearing a face covering outside and called bigoted slurs by freedom people convoy in some of their towns so if that aspect was present in the freedom convoy it makes a difference at the time that the general public and the protest starts to meet head one.

People get pretty super pissed off at old growth protests which stifle roads despite several Canadians agreeing that preserving nature is good. That is not toe say that the emergency act was the correct thing to do but the China protests seem much more meek in contrast to the freedom convoy.

Yet the freedom convoy protests at the end of the day are still nothing compared to the protests in Venezuela, for instance, that the shitlibs did support.

Phil Ochs said it best:

"In every American community, you have varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects. Ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally." - 1966

Justin is saying he supports the anti lockdown protests in China, because no one is pressing him on the specifics.

Trudeau had no problem going after India for the methods they used to handled the farmer protests in their country and mention the farmers plus their cause.

But he won't do so in this situation.

They should ask Justin the supports the co veed policy driven protests in China, since that's what they're protesting for.

It's so odd seeing Canadians ditching their right to protest to spite other people for protesting

All they had to do was cast them as Canada's January 6ers and it was done. Some people would let have anything be done to them after that. Canadians have the government they deserve

Imagine if Justin has his bank accounts frozen and him labeled as a terrorist for supporting the anti lockdown protests in China. Imagine how quick he would then sympathize with the freedom convoyers in retrospect if that occurred

90% of the lure of the Freedom Convoy was seeing who it was triggering. The bedshitting shitlib temper tantrum was pure Viagra. (Sadly though it didn't do any lasting damage to the neoliberal economic system)

Does Justin know he would come off as a hypocrite and give ammunition to my enemies by rightfully supporting the anti lockdown protests in China? Obviously not

Nonsense, though Justin knows damn well all that. He simply knows that the bigoted masses will slurp it all up and use it as license number 3494034 for hate. It doesn't have to make sense or be consistent, it only needs to give blokes an excuse.

It’s not hypocritical Justin's Canada freedom convoy China anti lockdown view difference though. Canada didn’t lock people in their homes like in China. Canada relatively merely reduced restaurants and businesses filling up and made Canadian citizens stay home if you had the virus while pushing for mandated masks. Canada's lockdowns no matter how cringe they were wasn’t anything at all like China.

That hypocrisy simply assigns a value to the people. Justin Trudeau for Canadian lockdown since he earnestly believes such measures saves the Canadian people. He's rightfully against Chinese lockdowns regardless of the medical peril for them since it threatens his supply of clown makeup and milk bags and Horton cups.

I may not have the complete picture, but the Canadian lockdown was a heck of a lot different than literally welding people into their freaking apartment buildings like in China

I'd like to see Justin Trudeau asked if any future pandemic could justify China type lockdowns in Canada

Though maybe the "Freedom Convoy" was really an anti-vax protest, and not a an anti-lockdown protest as in China's case. So if that is true, then to compare the freedom convoy protesters to the protesters in China is technically misguided and offbase. The convoy was whatever people hoped that it was. People on social media who weren't Canadian saw it different than Canadians for instance.

Anyway if we assume the China and Canadian protests were similar and Justin is a hypocrite supporting China's anti lockdown protesters and trashing Canada's freedom convoy protesters, then we must say that Justin Trudeau has always flip flopped like he did here (supporting China's anti lockdown protesters but being against the freedom convoy protesters). Clearly politicians are opportunistic, but Justin is exceptionally so

I'll reiterate. It's hard though to compare what happened in Canada (where the most drastic measure was a provincial curfew which had exceptions) with what's taking place in China (people being literally chained inside their apartment buildings). If people can't see the differences in severity here, or if they can't infer which one is "softer", they are either ignorant by design or mentally broken. Or simply brainwashed by Chinese propaganda.

Though minor nitpick but Canada did literally give in to the US's ban of the unvaxxed entering the US. (along with other 'minor inconveniences' within Canada imposed by Justin such as flying, bussing or traveling by train inside of Canada etc)

Yet a few Canadians were trapped in that b.s hole due to them being injected with a vaxx that wasn't on the shortlist.

Mock that all you want, it was unacceptable. Some of those particular Canadians have family abroad, you know, people they care about and want to see.

I do not go all in in equating anti vaxx passport demonstrations in Canada with the zero virus policy imprisonments in China. We can criticize Justin Trudeau all the way. But his so called hypocricy is not the win we think it is, unless we think kicking truckers out of Ottawa is the same level of bad as inprisoning people for weeks on end for testing positive.
