Not using an organization account

Apple believes that touching a wallet means you are a financial app, which leads to them requiring you to be an organization. There’s no way around this, even if you are just signing messages.

Restricting your app using NFTs (token gating)

If any of your app functionality is restricted by NFTs, they will ask you to offer in-app purchases. Yes, that means if your core product is token gating for Bored Apes, you will need to do a $100k in-app purchase. There’s no way around this except making your app work without NFTs. Alternatively, all your NFTs need to be cheap and mintable with IAPs.

Not having Content Moderation

If you have user-generated content, Apple will require you to have content blocking, reporting, and moderation. This means you have to be like a web2 social app.

Referencing another company on sign-in

If you mention another company in your sign-in, Apple will require you to support “sign-in with Apple”. It’s best to only have email and wallets as your sign-in options.

No Account Deletion

Apple requires account deletion starting June 30th, which means you need to support easily deleting all user-content with the press of a button. They will not accept “email us to delete your account”, unless you argue legal reasons why (e.g. financial institution).

Ruthlessly avoiding meetings is critical to being an overfounder - if someone schedules something on your calendar, resolve it async, do the meeting right away, or cut the meeting short. Overfounders make strong founders in the long run, as they learn critical time management skills that many traditional founders don’t have in the early days.

Places such as California have strong protections for overfounders: California Labor Code Section 98.6 and California Labor Code 2870-2872 protect moonlighting and intellectual property, as long as employers equipment is not used - much easier to accomplish in a remote environment then at the office. Tech moonlighting is common nowadays, with many employees having multiple remote tech jobs. Check your local laws and confirm you are protected as a moonlighter.

I highly recommend taking the plunge by becoming an overfounder.

We’ve decided to host a community on BΞB with heavy alignment, CryptoPhunks, which has been previously delisted from OpenSea 3 times (and recently verified). Hosting them is an ideal test of a web3 social platform on the mission of creating a decentralized community protocol. In some sense, this is our chaos monkey that will ensure our infrastructure supports multiple ingestion sources for NFT data, not relying on a centralized API such as OpenSea. Update (April 30): Added Token Garden

Easier to Fail the Howey Test: Soulbound NFTs make it harder to qualify as an investment under the Howey Test, since you cannot sell the NFT. A Soulbound DAO could potentially have a blocklist to revoke privileges to anyone selling their NFT through a proxy or through trading private keys. Profit sharing would swing a soulbound NFT to be an investment however.

Influence Is Not Transferred: Many DAOs want to operate like a company, with DAO token holders being shareholders. A wealthy individual could perform a hostile takeover of a DAO to perform a governance attack, which has already been attempted in the real world (Justin Sun and Compound). Only new influence can potentially be created in a soulbound DAO, and if all the influence is already assigned, a governance attack is much harder.

Better Alignment of Incentives: “Show me the incentive, and I’ll show you the outcome.” ~ Charlie Munger. Many web3 projects rush to form DAOs to have exit liquidity for founders, investors, and users. If you design a soulbound DAO so you cannot sell membership and there is no profit to be shared, there is better alignment across the membership for your DAOs purpose that is not financially motivated.

What are BΞB private professional groups?

We believed from the beginning that professional networking can be anonymous yet high-quality. The private groups are places for authentic discussions between members of similar backgrounds.

What is the application process?

Since we are in early beta, the team behind BΞB will review each application and referral manually.

What are the acceptance criteria?

Some attestations are undeniably subjective, hence why we are transparent in providing quantifiable criteria when possible. We believe exchanging higher-quality discussions for centralization is a fair tradeoff at this stage. In the future, to gradually decentralize the application process, we’ll introduce a BΞB DAO that will vote on the formation of independent committees, each responsible for reviewing and granting its soulbound NFTs.

How long is review process?

The applications are reviewed within a few days. If accepted, you will receive an airdropped NFT. Then, you can log into beb.xyz, and access the corresponding group.

With the new redesign of BΞB today, we now have an emphasis on private professional groups rather than only focusing on professional networking, gated by different soulbound NFTs. We’re betting on private groups because we know people are much more comfortable sharing their personal opinions in private settings. We also know there are a diverse set of web3 people ranging from artists, investors, founders and more, and we want BΞB to serve everyone. The private beta group we are launching today is going to be broad, and we’re letting mostly everyone who was on our waitlist in with a beta soulbound NFT. From there, you can apply to the alpha group and the other groups we are introducing soon. We are also excited about rolling out attestations for our future groups, so even a freshly-created pseudonym can participate in an e.g. angel investor or engineer group.

We’re excited to launch a new experiment today, a web3 social network gated by a soulbound membership NFT: BΞB.xyz. Members who apply and receive a free soulbound BΞB NFT can access our community to connect with other professionals and discuss anything they desire.

Why a professional social network?

There are thousands of web3 professionals excited to network with each other for career discussion, learning new technologies, and to raise capital. BΞB has the potential to accelerate many of our members careers and help web3 startups find talent that is otherwise is fragmented across many existing platforms. We aren’t stopping at soulbound NFTs: we are considering the usage of NFT-gated exclusive groups, peer-to-peer payments and bounties, user-centric DAO governance, and more.

How are soulbound properties enforced?

We enforce the soulbound property by disabling non-zero address from transfers, and our platform requires a BΞB account address to possess the assigned NFT when logged in. Transferring the NFT would require hijacking of the previous identity of the account, which would be detectible by our platform.
