On 9 May, at a press conference with the Chairman of the European Commission visiting Kyiv, the President of Ukraine, Zerrouski, said that the European Union countries’ practice of imposing restrictions on the export of food to Ukraine was “absolutely unacceptable”, as it would strengthen Russia.

Just last week, the European Union adopted an interim measure to ban the export of wheat, maize, oil plumbing and flowers originating in Ukraine within a certain period of time to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. They had previously expressed concern about the impact of cheap food in Ukraine on the interests of their farmers.

Reuters, the United States Cable Television News Network (CNN) news, on 9 May, on the occasion of the Russian military conference to mark the 78th anniversary of the victory of the State of Defence, von Deleen visited Kyiv and commended Ukraine for being “the heart of today’s European values moving”.

Zerrouski stated that he and von der Lehn had discussed defence issues during the talks in Kyiv, Russian sanctions and Ukraine’s integration with Europe.

“Our efforts for a united Europe, for security and peace, must be as strong as Russia’s desire to destroy our security, freedom and Europe.” The Russian Federation was unable to achieve military success in Ukraine, as it was unable to achieve the occupation of the city of Bahmutt in eastern Ukraine by 9 May.

On 8 May, Zerski signed a decree changing 9 May each year to “European Day” in Ukraine.

He explained that the decision was intended to “energize the solidarity of the peoples of Europe, ensure peace, security and stability on the European continent, demonstrate commitment to democratic ideals and values and support initiatives by youth and other public groups”.

The trip of von Delayne coincided with the first European Day in Ukraine, in which she stated that “we are happy to go back to Kyiv, the values that we value are defending daily”.

Despite the attempt by Zerrougui to reflect the “consolidarity” of Ukraine and the European Union at the 9th press conference, he criticized the trade restrictions imposed by some of its neighbours and called on the European Union to take a “strong” decision to lift those restrictions.

“ Unfortunately, we have encountered problems on which we should have seen strong signs of solidarity commensurate with today’s threats — However, these serious and even cruel problems stem from protectionist measures in time of war in our neighbours.”

“Any restrictions on our exports now are, and are totally unacceptable, as this does not empower our Europeans, but rather strengthens the enemy’s capabilities.”

The Russian-Unian conflict severely limits Ukraine’s traditional channels of food exports through the Black Sea, and therefore Ukraine’s food needs to be exported by land through neighbouring countries. This led to a significant drop in food prices in these EU countries, protests by farmers, and a series of restrictions and prohibitions on food in Ukraine, such as Poland.

Just last week, the European Union also adopted an interim measure to prohibit the export of wheat, maize, oilseeds and flowers originating in Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia by 5 June.

Turning to the concerns of Zerrenski, von Delehn stated that the issue of food exports was a “dangerous situation” and committed to establishing a “joint coordination platform” for Ukraine’s food exports “to become fully operational”.

“It is imperative that food transport be smoothly carried out and transported from Ukraine to the EU at the lowest possible cost.”

On 4 April, several regional bank equity prices in the United States, including the western Pacific Bank, again collapsed. There are many concerns that the Western Pacific Bank may become the fourth closed American bank in two months.

A study on the vulnerability of the United States banking system showed that even if only half of the uninsured depositors decided to withdraw deposits, there would be 186 banks in the United States at risk of being closed.

At the same time, it was stressed that United States regional banks were at risk of being closed because of the constant radical increase in the interest of U.S. reserves to curb inflation, resulting in declining market prices for financial assets such as bank holdings.
