Step 1. Sign in to Coinbase

• Go to Coinbase.

• Click on the Buy/Sell button.

• Click on “Buy” again and change the asset from Bitcoin to ETH.

• If you haven’t already done so, add a payment method (ex. your checking account) by clicking on “Pay with”.

• Enter the amount of money you would like to spend.

• Click on Preview Buy.

• Review your order. Note the Coinbase fee and make sure you’re comfortable with this (the larger your transaction amount, the lower the fee percent is).

• Click on “Buy now”.

Step 1. On your computer

• Open the Ledger Live app.

• Click on Accounts.

• Click on Add account.

• Select Ethereum (ETH) as the crypto asset and click Continue.

• Confirm this choice on your Ledger hardware wallet.

• Set up your Ledger hardware wallet.

• Created a MetaMask account (which is your software wallet).

• Created an ETH account in Ledger Live.

Now let’s connect your hardware wallet to your software wallet.

Step 1. Open your MetaMask software wallet in the Brave web browser

• Click on the Extensions icon (it looks like a puzzle piece), at the top-right corner of the Brave web browser.

• Click on the MetaMask extension icon.

• Enter your MetaMask password and click unlock.

• Click on the ellipses underneath the account icon and then select Expand view. This will open MetaMask in its own browser tab.

Step 2. In MetaMask, select the account icon on the top, right corner

• Click on Connect Hardware Wallet.

• Choose Ledger.

• Plug in your Ledger wallet and unlock it by entering your PIN.

• On your Ledger, open the Ethereum app - it will state, “Application is ready.”

• Back in MetaMask, click on continue.

• Select your Ledger wallet and then click connect.

• Select the ETH account you want to connect to MetaMask and click Unlock.

After you’ve set up your hardware wallet, you’ll want to create a software wallet. We recommend using the Brave web browser.

Step 1. Get the MetaMask software wallet

• Go to metamask.io (using the Brave web browser).

• Click on the “Download for Brave (lion icon)” button.

• Click on the “Add to Brave” button to install the MetaMask browser extension.

Step 2. Configure MetaMask

• Click on the “Get Started” button.

• Click on the “Create a Wallet” button.

• Agree or disagree to send MetaMask usage data by clicking on the respective button.

• Create a password.

• Click to reveal your Secret Recovery Phrase.

  • Store your Secret Recovery Phrase in a safe place.

  • Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase with anyone.

  • If you lose your Secret Recovery Phrase no one can help you gain access to your MetaMask wallet.

• Confirm your Secret Recovery Phrase.

  • Select each phrase in the right order.

• Go to: ledger.com/start and download the Ledger Live app.

• Open the Ledger Live app and follow the prompts on your computer.

Step 3. On your Ledger

• Turn on your Ledger and connect it to your computer.

• Once connected, follow the prompts on your Ledger.

• Success means you’ve created your PIN and established your recovery phrase.

Step 4. Back in Ledger Live (on your computer)

• Confirm that you were successful.

• Then complete the quiz in Ledger Live.

Step 5. On your Ledger

• Complete the “Genuine” check and allow Ledger Manager to access your Ledger.
