On January 25, according to the Kunming traffic police detachment, the construction of Kunming intelligent transportation project has been basically completed: 521 traffic intersections in the city have completed intelligent transformation, 503 intersections have implemented the “green wave belt”, and the average delay time of 12 trunk lines has decreased by 10.5%. The traffic congestion has been greatly reduced in the past year.

At the beginning of last year, Kunming traffic police detachment reached cooperation with Alibaba cloud to build a “smart traffic control brain”. Since then, the technical service team has started a one-year construction work. At present, a complete intelligent transportation command, management and service system has been formed. In particular, traffic order research and judgment, comprehensive command and dispatching, signal optimization and control and other applications support the business sectors of the traffic police. By integrating all kinds of traffic big data, the intelligence of analysis, prediction and decision-making is realized, so as to better provide services for citizens’ travel.

Recently, more and more citizens have found that when the queue of vehicles in one direction of the intersection becomes longer, the green light time will be prolonged. In fact, this is the AI sensing device that detects the real-time traffic at the intersection and adjusts the signal duration in real time. If the traffic flow in all directions of the intersection is uneven and the traffic flow in one direction is large, AI will appropriately extend the green light time in the direction with large flow according to the flow ratio in all directions, so as to allow more vehicles to pass through and improve the overall traffic efficiency of the intersection.

What provides AI perception capability for these intersections is the intelligent roadside terminal equipment and the cloud edge end integrated intelligent transportation system constructed by cloud computing, big data and Internet of things technology. At present, 521 intersections in Kunming have completed the upgrading of edge intelligent sensing devices.

On 12 trunk roads in Kunming, including Dongfeng East Road, Renmin East Road, Renmin West Road and Beijing Road, the cloud platform can automatically judge the congestion status of 12 trunk roads based on global data integration, big data analysis and intelligent algorithm, and adopt different control schemes according to the traffic flow.

The improvement of Kunming’s traffic in “points” (intersections) and “lines” (trunk lines) also promotes the optimization of “point to area”. Previously, Kunming traffic police and Alibaba cloud located three key areas in the East, West and south of the first ring road. Kunming “intelligent traffic control brain” carries out dynamic zoning and regional state detection according to the data. In the peak period, single point induction and coordinated induction green wave are the main control modes, and slow in, fast out and balanced control strategies are implemented in the peak period. After data evaluation, the average daily delay time in the eastern and western districts within the first ring road decreased by more than 10%, and that in the Southern District decreased by more than 5%. Among them, the optimization effect of evening peak was the most obvious, and the delay time in the first ring road decreased by 20%.

In addition, the city has also completed the Adaptive Coordinated green wave scheme for 503 intersections of 141 sections such as Huancheng East Road, Beijing Road and Rixin road. According to the specific traffic flow at different times of the road, Kunming “intelligent traffic control brain” can adjust the traffic light duration at the intersection. Drivers can enjoy the smooth experience of “green light all the way” as long as they drive at the speed recommended by Kunming traffic police in these green wave sections.

It is understood that Kunming has achieved optimization at different levels of “point line area” by relying on the “intelligent traffic management brain” on the premise that the number of motor vehicles has increased year by year, the travel demand has continued to grow at a high speed, and the supply is seriously insufficient due to the Limited road network structure. This year, more intelligent transportation scenarios will be launched in Kunming to facilitate citizens’ travel.

He said that about 30000 stations in Europe will eventually use open ran, and rural areas will first benefit from 4G and 5g new base stations with more flexible radio technology. When the project is extended to urban areas, any existing 5g base station equipment will be replaced and reused elsewhere to reduce unnecessary waste.

Nick read, CEO of Vodafone group, said in MWC’s keynote speech, “we need a local scale to narrow the investment gap and ensure that we can quickly deploy 5g. We need a regional scale to narrow the digital gap.” At present, 5g coverage in Europe is low, with only 10% of the population, while 5g networks in China and the United States have reached 60% and 45% of the population respectively.

Vodafone has always been one of the key drivers for the development and use of open ran technology. The company has deployed one of the first open ran base stations in Wales. Subsequently, Vodafone built an open ran base station in Cornwall and the first 5g open ran station in the UK.

Nick read called open ran a “good example of departmental collaboration”. He emphasized Vodafone’s work through cooperation with the Spanish government, such as opening a pan European R & D center in Malaga, creating a European v-hub service, and helping small and medium-sized enterprises realize business digitization.
