The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, appears to have been the first targeting the proposed merger, which would combine the two of the largest grocers operating in Washington into a single corporation. On Wednesday, Ferguson’s counterparts in the District of Columbia, Illinois and California jointly filed a similar legal action in federal court in Washington DC seeking to block the dividend.

The attorneys general all have also requested temporary restraining orders blocking the payment, which Albertsons had planned to complete Monday, until the lawsuits are resolved.
