What is the Moloch Framework?

Moloch Framework is a term that refers to a set of smart contracts that make decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) work. These contracts are like the rules and systems that govern how a DAO operates. It's kind of like the operating system for a DAO.

In a Moloch DAO, membership is a big deal. You can't just join one; you need an existing member to invite you and vouch for you by sponsoring and voting on a membership proposal. Membership is tracked using shares and loot. Shares give you voting power, meaning you have a say in the decisions the DAO makes. Loot represents a claim to the DAO's money, but it doesn't give you voting power.

"Quorum" refers to the minimum percentage of members' voting power needed to approve a proposal so that it can become a real action or decision. This quorum percentage plays a crucial role in how a DAO functions. Initially, after the DAO is created, this percentage is set, but it can later be changed through a proposal made by the DAO members. It's an important parameter that impacts how easily decisions are made within the DAO.

"Minimum Retention %" represents the highest percentage of DAO members, including those with voting and non-voting stakes, that must continue to be part of the DAO after a grace period. If the number of members drops below this percentage, the proposed action or decision is not carried out. It's a way to ensure that a certain level of member participation is maintained for proposals to take effect.

"Sponsor threshold" is the minimum number of voting stake tokens that a member must possess in order to support or endorse a proposal. This rule ensures that only members with a certain level of influence in the organization can propose or back specific ideas or decisions.

During our discussions with the Department of Agriculture, one of the key topics that emerged was the importance of access to financing for our agriculture projects. We were pleased to learn that the Department of Agriculture has a bank called “Banco Agricola,” which is dedicated to advancing the development of agricultural infrastructure and ensuring a stable food security system.

As a DAO, the core of our philosophy is to prioritize shipping 10x more than the funding we spend. However, we see this as an additional “failsafe” that can provide us with more stability, resilience, and liquidity in case of emergencies.

Our vision is to remain community-led, and we believe that the initial distribution of Governance shares to fund the V1 Plantation is the way to achieve this. This approach allows us to obtain funding, governance, and “wisdom of the crowd” in one take. Our main goal is to build a community-owned asset that serves as a proof of concept as a decentralized group of people, who can control and develop real-world assets independently of its founders or core team. By reducing the voting power of the founders & core team, we can create an organization that evolves based on collective beliefs, rather than being controlled by a centralized group.

Hello Web3 Community and friends! This is my first blog post on this platform, but I won't be talking about myself. Instead, I will be focusing on the "why," "how," and what we expect from the creation of these "Deep Dive Sessions."

Why is an Agriculture DAO doing this?

We have been on the sidelines for a long time, learning, researching, and trying to stay engaged. It's clear that there is a lot of noise in the Web3 community - information travels quickly and updates, launches, gatherings, and conferences can sometimes obscure accurate and meaningful information.

In my journey through the Web3, DAOs, and DeFi space, I have encountered countless people who are building amazing solutions to real-world problems. They go beyond simply creating magic internet money and develop use cases with solutions based on blockchain technology. These solutions are sometimes designed for local problems but have the potential to scale and move the needle on a global level.

I'm leading this initiative, which won't cost a dollar for the DAO, and will provide many upsides for Kokonut Network, such as exposure and possible partnerships.

How do we plan to achieve our desired outcome?

Why do we need DAOs?

Being internet-native organizations, DAOs have several advantages over traditional organizations. One significant advantage of DAOs is the lack of trust needed between two parties. While a traditional organization requires a lot of trust in the people behind it — especially on behalf of investors — with DAOs, only the code needs to be trusted.

Every action a DAO takes after being launched has to be approved by the community and is completely transparent and verifiable.

Such an organization has no hierarchical structure. The lack of a hierarchy means any stakeholder can put forward an innovative idea, that the entire group will consider and improve upon. Internal disputes are often easily solved through the voting system, in line with the pre-written rules in the smart contract.

By allowing investors to pool funds, DAOs also give them a chance to invest in early-stage startups and decentralized projects like Kokonut Network, while sharing the risk or any profits that may come out of them.
