Today, we are pleased to announce that Chainlink has been integrated into the open and permissionless network of Oracles and Relayers which secure cross-chain messaging across LayerZero.

Before LayerZero, the Web3 industry was fragmented across a vast set of disparate blockchains. Applications were launched as single-chain and developers were forced to choose a popular, existing blockchain or take a gamble on the future success of an up-and-coming blockchain. With the advent of LayerZero, applications can finally be built everywhere, utilizing each chain’s best features, and ushering in a new era of applications: Omnichain dApps.

In general, blockchain technology is known for its strong security properties and resistance to outside attacks. However, different chains are designed with different strengths and consequent weaknesses; in a world where blockchains are connected, omnichain dApps are only as secure as their weakest link. Therefore the security of the underlying messaging protocol is paramount.

LayerZero achieves best-in-class messaging security with its non-upgradeable, permissionless smart contracts that perform on-chain validation of all messages. The protocol achieves this by utilizing an on-chain Ultra Light Node. As required by the protocol architecture, an oracle entity is responsible for delivering a block header and an independent relayer entity is accountable for submitting a transaction proof. This verification is performed on-chain, followed by the delivery and execution of the message. The oracle(s) and relayer(s) framework is entirely permissionless, allowing any application or individual to participate as one entity, however applications maintain agency and responsibility for selection of the participating entities. To achieve a secure, robust and decentralized messaging protocol, LayerZero offers omnichain dApps the optionality of a variety of oracles and relayers. To realize this goal, we are pleased to announce our integration of industry-standard oracle solution Chainlink as a major milestone in achieving the decentralization of the LayerZero protocol. LayerZero leverages Chainlink’s blockchain-agnostic oracles to provide a best-in-class security option for omnichain dApps.

Chainlink is the most time-tested, widely adopted, and flexible oracle solution in the market. Chainlink has a strong track record of security and reliability amidst major market volatility and network congestion, successfully helping secure billions of dollars in value for leading dApps, including Aave and Synthetix. Additionally, Chainlink is already integrated across many leading blockchains, and its External Adapter framework allows for quick expansion to additional chains as needed by our users.

Powering Omnichain Communication With Chainlink

LayerZero is an omnichain communication protocol designed to connect isolated blockchains and Layer-2 environments. LayerZero is purposely constructed to be the most lightweight client possible by avoiding reliance on cross-chain machine state replication. This design enables endpoints to be integrated on any blockchain without incurring prohibitive transaction costs.

At a high level, users can initiate a cross-chain transaction from chain A to chain B by sending a message to an on-chain endpoint on chain A. When a dApp selects Chainlink as its oracle, the endpoint receives a message, the Chainlink oracles fetch the block header data from chain A and send the information to the endpoint on chain B. Simultaneously, an independent relayer fetches the transaction proof on Chain A and sends it to Chain B. If both the block header and transaction proof are deemed valid– in other words, the independent oracle and relayer entities agree– then the smart contract will post a transaction. If the block header and the transaction proof do not match– one of the independent entities disagrees– the endpoint will disregard the message as invalid and revert.

Regarding the integration of Chainlink into LayerZero’s network of oracles and relayers, Bryan Pellegrino, Co-Founder and CEO of LayerZero Labs said, “Chainlink’s blockchain-agnostic capabilities and well-documented performance history made it a clear choice to help secure the oracle function of the LayerZero protocol.”

Exploring New Use Cases With LayerZero and Chainlink

“With LayerZero supported by Chainlink oracle networks, omnichain dApps will have the option to receive strong uptime and tamper-proof guarantees when relaying block header data between blockchains,” said Pellegrino, “The integration empowers a more decentralized, secure and scalable omnichain infrastructure for the entire smart contract economy. This integration highlights the expanding validation layer within LayerZero while maintaining the same simple framework and seamless experience for developers.”

The first 100 people who collect this entry will be rewarded in nearly days, wait for announcment at layerZero labs official discord

About Chainlink

Chainlink is the industry-standard Web3 services platform that has enabled trillions of dollars in transaction volume across DeFi, insurance, gaming, NFTs, and other major industries. As the leading decentralized oracle network, Chainlink enables developers to build feature-rich Web3 applications with seamless access to real-world data and off-chain computation across any blockchain and provides global enterprises with a universal gateway to all blockchains.

Learn more about Chainlink by visiting chain.link or reading the developer documentation at docs.chain.link. With this deployment, users will be able to move USDC, USDT, and ETH into Aptos from Etheruem, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Polygon, and BNB Chain.

How to use

The Aptos Bridge is live now and can be found at www.theaptosbridge.com. The easy to use interface will get you into the Aptos ecosystem in only a few clicks, and the bridge will airdrop you APT once you arrive!

Heading into the Aptos ecosystem, you may experience a slightly different flow than you’re used to from most other ecosystems. For example, if you’re interacting with an asset for the very first time on Aptos, the chain requires you to register the asset. Users will then receive prompts to register or claim the asset based on whether or not they’ve interacted with the asset before and if they already have APT in their wallet or not. If you’ve already interacted with the asset before and have APT, then the bridge will work exactly how you’re used to with a seamless, single-click experience.

Risks

Aptos launching as an entirely new ecosystem means that many features users are accustomed to using on other chains are not immediately available; this includes common tooling, libraries, and things like native assets issued by groups like Circle (USDC) and Tether (USDT).

In order to import assets into an ecosystem, new chains rely on wrapped assets to mirror existing assets from other chains. An example of a wrapped asset is WETH or Wrapped Ether; WETH is created when ETH is locked on its home chain (Ethereum) and a synthetic (wrapped) version is created on the new chain.

Wrapped assets have different properties than native assets, primarily in that the asset itself carries some of the risk of the underlying bridge. As native assets are introduced into the ecosystem, LayerZero will hand over control or facilitate the migration of our assets to the native version of the assets. In order to mitigate the potential risks of a newer ecosystem, the bridge will start with some early guardrails that will slowly be lifted as the environment proves to be stable. In addition to enabling Pre-crime for all bridge transactions, we will be enabling an outbound rate-limit ($1m outbound per 24 hours per pathway) and a 3-day transfer period on outbound transactions. Transfers inbound to Aptos will have no rate-limit and no delay on transfers.

Once native assets have entered the ecosystem, the Aptos Bridge will hand over or facilitate migration of the contracts to the native asset issuers at which point native asset bridges such as **Stargate **will be able to facilitate the seamless transfer of these assets between Aptos and external ecosystems, alleviating the risk of wrapped asset bridges.

Build on Aptos with LayerZero

LayerZero is currently launching native Aptos integrations with dozens of teams with many more to come. Select launch partners include Econia, Martian Wallet, Pontem Network, Notifi, Aries Market, and Blocto!

The LayerZero omnichain messaging protocol is already enabling countless use cases for teams connecting their applications to Aptos. Users can bridge assets directly to Aptos and securely transfer USDC, USDT, and ETH (with more to come).

Teams looking to integrate LayerZero to seamlessly connect with Aptos can do so with only a few lines of code and interact directly with our widget or the complete docs.

One of our first experiences with testing systems at scale was a battle of “us” against the Goerli faucet. We camped the faucet for days, begged, and ultimately ended up buying a bunch of Goerli ETH OTC via Twitter. The faucets were an intractable combination of fast enough to get the minimum amount we needed and slow enough to make testing large batches of deployments and transactions near impossible. As developers, we promised ourselves that when we had the time we’d create something that would solve this problem for our team and future developers.

Today we introduce the Testnet Bridge and create an open market for immediate pricing of ETH/GOERLI-ETH.

The initial price of Goerli-ETH is set to $0.10 and the pool is seeded with 12,500 Goerli-ETH. These pools are open and hosted on Uniswap on both Ethereum and Goerli. We welcome the community to LP and actively trade to achieve real price discovery and equilibrium. The two pools are listed as

Goerli: ETH/mETH (“Mainnet ETH”)

Ethereum: ETH/gETH (“Goerli ETH”)

What happens in the background is a swap from ETH on Ethereum to Goerli-ETH on Goerli executed as:

Swap ETH/gETH locally on Ethereum

Bridge gETH from Ethereum to Goerli

Unwrap gETH to ETH on Goerli

…from native ETH on Ethereum to native ETH on Goerli in a single click.

You can move your ETH to Goerli mETH or your Goerli-ETH to Mainnet gETH directly through the UI and can LP and trade directly through the Uniswap UI or in a consolidated manner on https://testnetbridge.com/.

We hope these markets make it significantly easier for Ethereum developers to test and have access to ETH on Goerli.
