The uniqueness of ‘cryptoartistry’ is the blockchain. Links that let us create universes of our own imagination. We can tell stories like no other artist of history.

The current way I will articulate this meme is:

an artist having the ability to ‘link\interact with’ their entire body of work changes the real world use cases of art… immeasurably, and we’ve already walked through that door.

the rub

there is a technical skill of the new age that one must self acquire - ‘internetism’

• ability to sift through the ocean of information optimally

• creative ability to create &/o organize data online

• conscious ability to leverage ai algorithms

this is the current DLC of our time, & blockchains provide the new maps.

so

cryptoart is a mix of internetism & ‘traditional arts of said artist’ - that can result in:

• something that creates brands and universes

• something that localizes new memes & social ip

• an economic industry for a new world art movement

this will require artists to change in real time. it is something I obsessed over the past 17 months. but when you look around at the lack of talent and initiative it really does seem there for the taking.

for non-artists, it is important to know each piece of art u learn something ‘new’

• as innocuous as ‘I have a preference for left-leaning asymmetry’

• as life illuminating as ‘I avoid using red because I don’t want to stand out’

• as uncorrelated as ‘I don’t like wearing this color when painting’

now imagine what happens when u do one thousand five hundred and fifty-two speed rounds of that for 2 weeks… u learn quite a bit.

so here we are 1552 pieces later (more in 2 weeks than I made in the last 3 yrs, combining multiple disciplines). will they all see the light of day?? no.

will most of them ever be seen or sold?? no.

maybe 5%.

because what ai has revealed to me is the ‘process’ is not as ‘integral’ to my identity as I had previously assumed. the process of making art is very dynamic - digital painters today produce wrk differently than the woodblock painters of old Asia. now ai introduces a new wrinkle & it’s disturbing the ‘status quo’

counterpunch

the most popular arguments against ‘ai art’ are pointed at the ‘speed, ease, & sale’ of this developing artform. ‘neo-traditional digital artists’ (::kek::) have brought up concerns w the strength of this new ‘tool’. it is somewhat ironic considering how they make art, but still, they feel this way. and when I first began tinkering w it I too questioned ‘quality control’.

however, playing w ai has made it undeniable in my mind - this is art… a new kind sure, but art just the same. the ‘market’ arguments are not at all related to the art conversation, but instead the market conversation. 1552 pieces of art made later and it really is the tip of the iceberg.

my hunch is ai use will vary more than current digital art tools like photoshop, blender, figma, etc - the production ‘friction’ is seriously reduced and the specific way u think is now the input data. ppl will be able to reach into the depths of themselves in ways no previous generation could. it’s shaping up to be a new renaissance.

if u have been w us for a while u know how novel this style is for an av piece. the explosiveness, the power, the ‘aggression’ - it’s dope

this week I was granted access to full usage of the Midjourney ai. I have been making art for around 8 yrs (photo, acrylic, oil, digital, music, etc) & this by far is the most exciting development in the near decade I have been expressing myself ‘publicly’.

the merging of ai and human cognition is one of the more exciting inevitabilities to me personally - especially the desire to use it for ‘protopia’ outcomes.

creating with ai relentlessly for only 72 hours and I truly feel as if I have gone > 100 yrs into the future.

• the depths of my imagination are unlocked

• the ability to ‘code’ with my thinking is now a reality

• ‘conjuring’ of specific assets to incorporate in my ‘traditional’ mediums is here

• the wrk is orders of magnitude better almost instantaneously

the future

if u exist in the (crypto, nft) space then u are well aware of the generative art movement. admittedly I used to feel envious of their spotlight at first - it was a struggle to realize the new layer of ‘creative’ expression being done by them (and truthfully I was just butt-hurt that my wrk wasn’t selling).

well I’ve eaten crow on that one… as Claire Silver so eloquently put it, ‘taste is the new skill’ - there is something to the curation, collaboration, and ‘coding’ that is novel relative to ‘traditional art’ & a steps further compared to ‘digital art’ (think Adobe products, etc).

it truly is a new universe to play in, one where artists will be able to cut friction on their art process + refine their ‘philosophies’ at ‘superhuman’ rates.

there will be arguments that this ‘sullies’ the ‘purity’ of art, and while I can sympathize with that sentiment, I happen to strongly disagree in this moment. I am too young in the game to expound further, but I will be continuously revisiting it I’m sure.

what are we doing here beyond getting rich. what is it that feels so ‘right’.

we use the word ‘utility’ right now to hint at the direction of that ‘thing’.

so we are searching for this ‘sense’. the name u use is not uber important.

new game

‘gamer’ children seek the ‘sense’ through playing. ‘finance’ children seek the ‘sense’ through commerce. ‘artistic’ children seek the ‘sense’ through instinct. 3 ‘things’ tied into a ‘web’ is what blockchains have provided.

a new game. connected at last, we merge our ‘senses’ and look for that ‘thing’ we mentioned above. we can all feel the potential, we just don’t know where yet.

abstraverse

part of the larger pie. we are looking to use our advantage (being early) to help scale verticals that will most certainly get snuffed out if left alone too long.

the ‘sense’ for us:

• redefining the value exchange between art & consumer of art (making it positive sum & as win-win as possible)

• reimagining the possibilities of 1/1 art & the scalability of 1/1 artists

• building a foundation (think L1’s) for creative commerce in (web3, crypto) - one that artists, creatives, writers, musicians, etc can pull/leverage into their own verticals

• nurturing a culture around our creative interests & scaling it to a global community

• producing & assisting the next generations of creatives to surpass our accomplishments

this is why we reject the term utility. we are not fooled by the ‘rich’

it is clear as day that the old art world of gatekeeping & hand picking artists as ‘liquidity vehicles’ is becoming more and more the norm. they say “buy art for art'“ then demonstrate their same patterns of ‘blue chip’ investment practices (coordinate, fomo flex, dump on plebs) - convincing artists that ‘no utility’ is the utility. just paint ur pretty pictures and be glad u got a bid….

artists have been starving so long that it’s hard to look up at the better deals on the table. we will keep with our convictions & look to build with like minded ppl. there is a new renaissance in my most optimistic visions of the future - we will go for it with all we got.
