“The frequency of extreme weather events has a significant impact on global food security, so that an accurate understanding of the impact of extreme weather events on crop yields is a major scientific concern for global change studies. The research team introduced the two mechanisms into a land-based process model, and based on an improved model simulation, found that extreme precipitation over the past 20 years had resulted in an annual reduction of 8.1 per cent of our rice yield; by the end of the century, extreme precipitation will be based on the effects of climate warming and rising carbon dioxide concentrations, resulting in an additional reduction of 7.6 per cent of rice yields, concentrated in the north-east and south-eastern coastal areas of the country, and a key area for the response of rice to extreme precipitation.
