Former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes will be sentenced this Friday after pleading guilty to violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). Although Hayes could face up to five years in prison, it's not uncommon for BSA violations to result in jail time.

Circle VP of Product: $61B USDC Stablecoin Redeemed Last Year

Joao Reginatto, vice president of product at Circle, said during a panel discussion at Permissionless on Wednesday that collateralization of stablecoins is important during periods of high market volatility, with the Boston-based stablecoin issuer redeeming $61 billion in USDC stablecoins last year. And last week, as the market reacted to the Terra crash, Circle redeemed $7 billion worth of USDC, meaning Circle processed more than 11% of the total redemption total for the year in just one week. Reginatto said: Our model is very boring and very simple fully collateralized. Customers bring in $1, we give them 1USDC, and we keep that $1. They bring USDC and we give them $1 back.
