Most small businesses consider video-sharing to be hosted on just the most well-known sites, split into two kinds:

Traditional (horizontal) videos such as those in 16:9 format. These often can be longer-form videos and usually they are hosted on YouTube. Other longstanding video-sharing platforms include Vimeo, Dailymotion and a few others as well as uploading into a social media channel such as Facebook. Additionally, some small businesses prefer to self-host and use a low-cost service like Amazon S3 or even upload to a cloud storage with video playback features like Dropbox or Google Drive

Shorter, vertical-orientation videos such as those in 3:4 format. These typically get uploaded onto Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Reels, and - now - YouTube’s “Shorts” section

Regarding the first kind, the traditional / horizontal longer-form video, most small businesses have skipped over using another video-sharing site: Rumble.

What Are The Benefits For A Small Business Or Local Business To Use Rumble For Online Marketing?

Rumble offers several benefits to small and local businesses for their online video marketing efforts. In no particular order, you can benefit by:

Having lower competition when a keyword (search phrase) is entered. If you optimize your videos properly then you have good odds of ranking in the top videos on the first page, even there is a significant amount of competition for the same exact search in YouTube.

Rumble’s video descriptions allow for links, and these are now getting recognized (“indexed”) in search engine results such as Google. The links also can help boost search rankings for your website or secondary web pages such as a favorable press release about your business. This latter method is called “tier 2” SEO link building.

Rumble’s video settings permit references back to the exact same video on YouTube, should you have uploaded the video there first. This “co-citation” enables the search engines to see that Rumble is an extra point of distribution and give your video extra benefit by citing the YouTube version as the original source for the video.

Videos in Rumble now are getting visibility in Google Videos, Bing, and now also getting indexed (sourced) in AI tools like Perplexity

Rumble’s audience may be different than YouTube’s for your specific industry. Some people no longer trust YouTube after what they consider to be censorship, copyright strikes which were unwarranted, and similar reasons. You also can find a more “patriotic” audience in Rumble, but that isn’t always the case for all categories.

Examples Of How Various Small And Local Businesses Can Use Rumble

Here are some quick examples of how various businesses can use Rumble:

A dog car seat cover manufacturer can use Rumble to target more “patriotic” types who drive pickup trucks (such as the Ford F-150) who own dogs. This would be in addition to the SEO, page 1 Rumble ranking, link building, and other reasons mentioned.

A small business selling high technology marketing and experience design solutions to major corporations, pro sports teams, and nationally known organizations can use Rumble similarly to the above example. The difference is that certain organizations and companies will treat a presence on Rumble with higher priority, so the experience design studio may get first consideration instead of it was just found in YouTube. This video is an example of the kinds of organizations with which it deals on a consistent basis:

A local HVAC company in the suburbs of a major U.S. city could use Rumble more for pure local lead generation. This would be to comment on videos of local businesses, knowing a comment on another local business’ Rumble video may stand out and get more attention than a corresponding comment on the same video uploaded on YouTube. Also, the HVAC company could optimize its video content and get #1 rankings in Rumble for its primary keywords for smaller towns it serves. The links from inside the videos’ descriptions then could help boost SEO in the main search engines themselves.

The same as above would apply to a local plumbing company looking to expand its services into growing towns West and South of its primary location. One additional thing which the company could do is to comment on real estate videos in Rumble for the towns where it wants more exposure. By leaving helpful comments, even with resources such as local plumbing codes and local historical flooding data, the prospective homeowners and curiosity-seekers watching the local real estate videos would become aware of the plumbing company. If the comments are helpful & courteous then this may build trust in the company’s brand - even if it doesn’t have a physical office in the new town to which it wishes to expand.

A tax professional who wishes to offer a specific service statewide, such as using AI to help with tax planning and tax strategies, then could post his video content on Rumble. He then could comment on videos pertaining to his state which deal with starting or growing (scaling) a business. The links back to his Rumble profile would build trust and potentially generate new leads from those people who otherwise wouldn’t know about his firm and/or wouldn’t know even about the new option, in this case AI for tax planning.

Of course, small and local businesses who don’t like YouTube’s practices/policies and/or don’t like the functionality of competing services like Vimeo and Dailymotion also may use Rumble in a “primary” way - very much like YouTube is the primary video-sharing outlet for most local and small businesses around the United States.

In future posts we may discuss decentralized/web3 video-sharing platforms. This will depend on the results from testing, ease of understanding by local businesses and small business owners, ability to rank in the search engines, if promised compensation by these platforms is as advertised, and if there are search engine benefits. Testing the platforms’ functionality, such as ability to play back video on Android vs. iPhone and specific laptop browsers, will need to be reviewed as well.

Please leave your thoughts on other ways in which smaller businesses which sell either nationwide or even locally can use Rumble in ways which benefit the viewers as well as the business owners themselves.

If your company partners with another company on a project, joint venture, or similar kind of alliance - even if only for the short term - then the other company may mention your business favorably on multiple platforms. How can this help you?

In addition to informing its social media & website/blog followers, some of these announcements can be accessed through the search engines by people who don’t know that either company exists. Additionally, links inside these mentions can help with SEO link building all the way to getting more queries in subsequent weeks about your company name or brands you control.

Here is one such example of a small business, serving the roofing industry nationwide, getting exposure on the other company’s social media platforms:

https://www.threads.com/@hailtrace/post/DJmOacDg_bj

https://www.facebook.com/HailTrace/posts/%EF%B8%8F-contractors-adjusters-and-restoration-pros-your-inspections-just-got-smarterwe/1010229847968010/

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DI2TrdKR9Lr/

Some of the above will lead to SEO-boosting links and others simply will help get real world referral traffic from social media, the kind of traffic which the search engines like.

Another example is the syndicated press release. Most companies don’t do anything with their press releases after they get distributed regionally or nationally. Here is one such example of a small business press release which serves a state-wide audience:

https://business.bentoncourier.com/bentoncourier/article/getnews-2024-4-19-new-online-six-hour-spanish-language-adult-drivers-education-course-for-texas-age-18-and-older

What can be done with these kinds of releases, after they are made public?

Just a few ideas include:

Small pay-per-click campaign to the most-relevant regional (or niche) website which picked up the release

Sharing some of the press release outlet links on social media

Blog posts with related content and a link to one of the live press release pages

Include a link to one of the press release pages inside a YouTube video description

Converting the press release to a PDF and sharing it on PDF-sharing websites

Several other ways

Another press release technique is to get multiple locations mentioned, such as in this release page:

https://markets.financialcontent.com/stocks/article/getnews-2024-4-10-new-team-members-for-chiropractic-clinics-in-dallas-and-carrollton-texas

The same marketing methods mentioned earlier could apply here as well.

If you sell products nationwide, then you may get review-based videos (such as this one) which mention the company, but they don’t link to main website or the official YouTube channel (such as here). If this happens then there are a few things you can do:

Leave a helpful comment on the video from the company’s official YT channel (or TikTok or other) which then has a link back (such as the official logo/icon) to the company’s official video channel

Include any favorable review video as an embed on the company’s own blog, adding helpful text & audio & other video content around it if appropriate. This justifies new blog content which then can get shared on the company’s official social media

Similar techniques to these as you won’t control the video content; but you can control the “content around the content”

If your company is mentioned in local business directories, such as a local chamber of commerce website, then you can share that link on social media.

Here is one such example:

https://business.brightoncoc.org/list/member/secure-tech-group-962

Additionally, you can build out links to your company’s specific directory page in places like these to get traffic and/or get brand awareness & trust in your audience:

Email signature file

New social media platforms such as Threads, BlueSky, Mastadon, or any other you join

Share on your LinkedIn company page

Place on alumni association or regional business owner directories if you are given the ability to enter the link

Share at least once in a local Google Business Profile update

Similar methods to help grow trust in your company and/or brand(s)

If a local news station covers your business favorably, then be sure to thank them on your social media, any company email newsletter, and possibly as a blog post on your own website. Remember that saying “thank you” is becoming a lost art, so take the time to show your appreciation!

Here is one example of such a video which then got embedded on the main website’s relevant page:

You even can share on other platforms a favorable post about your company. In this example, a Facebook post about a ribbon cutting on the local chamber of commerce can be shared on the company’s blog or shared on a different platform (such as Twitter / X):

https://www.facebook.com/Waxahachie.Chamber/posts/duncan-plumbing-solutions-llc-was-founded-in-2011-and-has-remained-a-family-owne/4111892735527723/

A local business also can share its podcasts on social media, email newsletter, official website’s blog post, or other platforms. This helps give local prospective customers or clients extra ways to increase their trust in your company.

https://open.spotify.com/episode/2Z5KpRj4WaezxbFVNDysxJ

Finally, find a way to become a legitimately-recognized expert in your industry. That way you can offer helpful tips which then position your company favorably in the eyes of a wide audience. Here is one such example of a local pest control contractor who is able to share his helpful tips with a large audience online:

https://www.wikihow.com/Author/Chris-Parker

The above example also shows co-authored articles. This helps you get more reach because the other author(s) will share content on social media + other ways to get to the same articles & topics.

Even a niche directory, such as for law firms, is worth sharing on social media or your Google Business Profile updates every once in a while. It just shows that you are legitimate to your audience as your company wouldn’t be on such a website unless it met the requirements to be on an authoritative platform. Such platforms easily can ban a fraudulent company or one which is substandard as it wouldn’t meet a minimum quality for its visitors. One example of such a niche directory is this:

https://www.lawcrossing.com/lawfirmprofile/KrZ6O/Wyde-Law/

Finally, your company may be licensed by the state or other regulatory agency. It may be lumped together with all of your competitors. Nonetheless it can help on occasion to mention your company being on a state government or other authoritative page such as this one:

https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/schedule-drive-test-authorized-third-party-skills-testing-tpst#:~:text=1-2-3%20driving%20school

Feel free to send comments or replies with other ideas on how to leverage your company’s name, brand names, or mentions of key employees on third-party online platforms which are not tied directly to the main company website, social media, maps, or email newsletters.

As a veteran internet marketer, one of the perplexing things seen for local small businesses is the lack of planning to market their videos. Over and over again, you can find so much emphasis is made by the owner and employees on the video production side of the equation. This can range anywhere from people worrying about getting the right tan & makeup, all the way to worrying about lighting and over-rehearsing their scripts to the point where what appears on camera borders on being “inauthentic”.

However, the same people have almost zero planning on what to do with the video AFTER it has been produced. The goal of most small local businesses’ videos is to help generate more sales, either directly or indirectly. Yet they don’t have much planning other than to “throw it on social media” and then forget about the video.

This easily can be seen in competitive local niches, like plumbing or landscaping, even in some cities and larger suburbs. Some videos on YouTube can be live for five years… yet they only have 3 or 4 views! Yes, some videos have fewer views than the number of years since being uploaded, despite the video still offering solid value to the first-time viewer.

Of course, on which platforms and whether or not you run paid ads is dictated by your business category, who is your target audience, and what you would like them to do. Certain local businesses do better with the vertical-orientation, shorter-form videos which you can see on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook Reels. Other videos are better for the traditional horizontal (16:9 ratio), longer-form videos which can be seen on a platform like YouTube or Vimeo -- especially if you want the viewer to click a link to a website page other than an easy-to-convey home page. Specific “landing pages” on your website are better served with these kinds of videos so that the viewer who leaves the platform (like YouTube) only has to make just one click to get to the page you want them to visit.

So how do you know what to do? Consider using an experienced video marketing service with knowledge of your specific area, or at least with experience in what you would like to accomplish. This can be a standalone business or individual consultant, or it can be a service offered by a trusted video production company.

Examples Of What Can Be Done With Video Marketing Planning

You are going to see examples of videos being marketed in unique ways, designed specifically to help get more viewers & exposure to desired audiences. Each of these required at least some degree of planning for what to do after the video was produced.

This video was designed to be emailed to attendees and other patients of a local chiropractic clinic. It shows testimonials and people having a good time, despite heavy rains that day (!), for the practice’s 20th anniversary. Friends & family then shared it with others to help them potentially decide to visit the chiropractor for the first time.

Most local business owners often aren’t aware of the multiple kinds of online map platforms which can represent their office or store locations. There are dozens of online mapping platforms, each of which has its own unique features.

These business owners typically only know about Apple Maps, MapQuest, Google Maps and perhaps one or two other similar services. Interestingly, they usually don’t even know about the various kinds of maps which can be made just within Google’s mapping service. This post will go into many of the versions which could be applicable to a local business in a large city or serving an area outside of major city, with a “major city” defined as being 400,000 or greater population. 400,000 is chosen as that is roughly where the top 50 U.S. population cities ends according to this resource:

https://www.biggestuscities.com/

Here are several examples of the various kinds of Google Maps which can be used:

The regular Google Map for a local business. In this case it is for a piano bar in Downtown Houston, using the regular “map” view. This shows the number of reviews, average star rating, address, and nearby landmarks in that city.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/h7pbft2moirpXmBg6

Here is a similar map, except from satellite view for one of the piano bar’s other locations. In this case it is in Fort Worth, and this may help show where the location is relative to which side of the street & other helpful tips for directions.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/XcTPZxtvsCsMTcC79

This local HVAC company services several counties north of the Dallas Fort Worth area, up to the Oklahoma (Texoma) border. Instead of a specific location, this map shows the company’s service area:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/yHYgaYSVkyqVHQrE8

This business in the Dallas area (Garland) serves both a local audience as well as a statewide customer base. Reviews are heavily needed in this particular industry, so this Google Map shows the location as well as the top reviews since the company started its Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business profile):

https://maps.app.goo.gl/xyvTAdoJqNtBGNoj6

This map combines location plus examples of a specific service often desired by people searching. In this case, a chiropractor in the North Dallas area uses a ProAdjuster machine for those who don’t respond well to manual chiropractic adjustments. The machine is sought by those who moved to the area and were familiar with the machine previously. Since it is not common across chiropractic clinics in the area then the prospective patient may be seeking a clinic with this specific machine. The map shows a photo of the specific machine, the cleanliness of the office, and a map location.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/7mxNfM1vbmfumZSb6

Another chiropractic clinic, this time in a suburb of Dallas, wants to emphasize its proficiency and care for those who were injured in auto accidents. One of the practice’s 5-star reviews in Google mentions this specifically. You will see the location pinned on the map; but this time you will see a specific review which emphasizes the care received after a bad car accident:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/nywKajC5dfHHXBnv8

Similar to the above example, this used auto dealership in Plano (just north of Dallas) wants to emphasize its proficiency in providing its customers for specific makes/models of cars. In this case, the Map shows the location and all reviews - instead of just one specific review - which people left about pre-owned Jaguar vehicles:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vj2VMmVRvmjjhBSw8

As mentioned earlier, some Maps offer the ability to emphasize a specific service. However, sometimes video is more compelling than image content. In this example, a Portland Oregon pest control service has a Map which shows its location as well as a short video about how it naturally prevents rodents from entering local homes:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/PVtdbtqSsFDcSdDa6

Proximity, sometimes based on urgency, is a major decision factor when people are looking at whether or not to use a local business. In this case, a pest control company with an office in Everett, Washington has a driving directions map. This example shows directions to the nearby yacht club, as such a business may want proximity and urgency should rodents appear and risk upsetting its members:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/RVy3rBvq1rheGd9eA

Some people make decisions for local businesses based on the ownership. For example, some people may wish to use only women-owned businesses, even for a service like a local plumbing company in the suburbs near a major city. One such Map which could be shared, which mentions the women-owned status for the business, can be seen here:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/UrLFXBRemQz93cBf6

You may combine this with video confirming the ownership and/or showing the person(s) who would be inside one’s home performing a service like plumbing. An example of this is mentioned in this post:

https://mirror.xyz/0x9C534C74725A6B82107770A440708008f05cA8c0/AlLzovhcAISTIF-bvUJDUgG56FTGS24QlPmgwLoEWAc

Please note that all of the above examples are just tiny pieces of a larger strategy to help your business increase its rankings & traffic to your Google Maps (Google Business Profile) listing. There are at least 50 different steps which need to be taken regarding your Maps profile, besides just getting more favorable customer reviews, to help it rank better.

If you need any help then you are welcome to contact us here:

https://www.morethanseo.com/contact/

If you are a local business owner who is looking to leverage video in order to gain new leads in your area, then you may not necessarily yet be aware of the various options you have. Just one video, if it resonates with your desired audience, can be used in at least a dozen ways online to help you grow your business.

Please note that in the current era, the videos must connect with your audience(s). This requires authenticity. The days of the older, overly-scripted, “inauthentic” (perhaps even considered to be “cheesy” by a younger audience) video just won’t do much for you. Most people now are turned off by video which looks like an advertisement or heavily-scripted content. They may even consider it that you are trying to be “fake” or otherwise defraud them, even if that is not your intent at all.

There are many types of videos which can be used to help your business. Here are just a few examples of ones which have helped to generate sales in the current time period, in this case the end of 2024 and first half of 2025.

Testimonials and reviews from actual customers/clients

Before/after video footage, such as with a luxury landscaper or home remodeling contractor

Showing little-known features about your business or actual establishment, such as a restaurant which has a private room for parties - yet isn’t known by most of the restaurant’s repeat patrons

Customer appreciation footage showing real people having a good time

Leveraging other people’s videos enjoying your business, such as including them in a playlist or otherwise getting the rights to use the video footage

Product demonstration, including helping people with common problems

Screen recording videos

Converting audio-based content, such as a podcast or local radio station interview, into a video which offers benefits

Problem-solving video footage which can range from helping people find something locally, all the way dealing with commonly-accepted problems such as how to deal with record heat or cold weather in your area

If you can get the rights to use the video footage for marketing purposes, any local media outlet which has featured you favorably

Many other types of videos for local purposes

While you may have your preferred online platforms to share video content, let’s go through a few examples of local businesses which leveraged their video content to help generate new sales or long-term clients. Hopefully you discover new possibilities for your existing, and future, videos which offer value to your prospective customers or clients.

In no particular order:

Combing your own videos and other people’s videos into YouTube playlists, targeting your specific geographic area. This example features multiple YouTube playlists, targeting the company’s multiple locations, having fun at bars where guests can sing and dance to live music:

This playlist takes videos from the business as well as authoritative statewide news stations’ YouTube channels, and combines them to offer value to both local and statewide audiences. Texas allows for parent taught driver education to be taken online for teens ages 14 to 17, so this playlist addresses the statewide audience - and it has some additional local benefit as well:

This local HVAC company offers residential service across several counties. It is in an area known to have extreme weather swings during the year, as low as below zero degrees in winter to over 105 degrees in the summer. It is a tips-based, explanation “short” video which is less than 90 seconds. It also is in the vertical orientation, and this allows for uploading to YouTube Shorts, Instagram, Facebook Reels, and TikTok.

It can be shared easily on the company’s Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) in order to give the company’s “Maps profile” more content and helping prospective customers discover the company:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/CPe6eRRQbYc

Some videos combine music, excitement, and technology such as some drone footage. One example is a local luxury used auto dealer who made this video for Instagram & Facebook to reach desired audiences, but it also was able to have benefit inside YouTube as well:

One way to show authenticity and longevity for a local business is to have video footage combining real testimonials plus customer appreciation. Such a video from a local chiropractic clinic’s 20th anniversary patient appreciation event can be seen here:

An example of a video targeting a nationwide audience still can be used for local purposes, such as a local dog appreciation event in a big city where the company either sponsors the local event and/or has a booth at the local event. The video, showing the product’s benefits & features, can be used in a local ad campaign (YouTube or Facebook) such as targeting dog owners wanting to protect their car seats who live in/near the city:

Most local business owners aren’t aware of the latest cybersecurity and malware threats. It takes a dedicated business, dedicated to serving a growing area, a willingness to share latest threats to a business owner especially in smaller towns. Here is one such video about the new “deepfake” threats to business owners:

Even a traditional scripted video production effort for a local business, such as a local plumbing company serving towns just outside a major U.S. city, need to be good for branding purposes. This kind of video even can be optimized for ranking well inside YouTube and possibly the search engines, such as when you see a video ranking in the search engines for a local search or a “near me” search you may make. This particular example emphasizes lots of happy customer reviews on Google, a BBB favorable rating, and you get to see the actual person who may be coming to your home to perform the service -- thereby increasing the trust factor. This is a big issue especially for those concerned about home/personal security.

A “faceless” music video can work at the local level if it shows how the local company can prevent problems. In this case, you get to see a local pest control company and how it addresses the solution of preventing rodents from getting into one’s home. It has basic branding, music which is appropriate for all audiences, and shows real (on-location) video of the technician addressing the problem:

If you make decisions for a local small business, such as a local chiropractor or accountant or sports bar, then you may not yet have an idea of how to use the new web3 technology for your business. Most of the web3 topics are focused in investing/trading/speculating, big brands with national exposure, or other topics which aren’t relevant to just getting more customers, patients, or clients in your city and from nearby towns.

This article is just a short overview of how web3 technology (as of the summer 2024) now can start to generate new local customers and/or solve problems which are otherwise difficult or expensive to solve. First, let’s cover just a few of the topics of what web3 technology is available to a local business owner:

NFTs (non-fungible tokens)

POAPs (proof of attendance protocol NFTs)

AI (some of this is web3)

Decentralized content writing, such as Mirror.xyz

Virtual real estate (aka “digital land” or “digital real estate”)

Augmented Reality (in some circumstances)

Decentralized finance

Tokenized businesses and other real world assets (RWA’s)

Metaverse lands and other digital assets like digital wearables, digital collectibles, and more

Other gamification aspects to make your local business more compelling, especially a more traditionally-considered “boring business”

Web3 top-level domains (TLDs) and second-level domains (SLDs)

3D objects uploaded into a metaverse or augmented reality platform

This topic is covered more on this page:

https://www.morethanseo.com/web3-local-business-lead-generation/

This video shows an example of a local convention center holding a virtual trade show. A “real world problem” which this solves is the ability to extend the benefits of a trade show long after the conference/expo/event has concluded. People who missed out on the trade show can interact with vendors; and vendors who weren’t able to connect with otherwise-motivated prospective customers increase the odds of increasing business in case the people at the trade show booth didn’t connect with the prospective customers.

Even though this is for a trade show, the concept can be expanded into a local business environment. For example if the local chamber of commerce wants to increase membership + the members want to increase awareness of their businesses to other members & non-members, then something like the above video can be created as a “Chamber approved” web3 venue which would allow members to have their content at each “booth”.

The other benefit, as compared to just listing all members on a common web page or directory, is that the local business Chamber member is welcome to join the metaverse venue and interact directly with anyone else who happens to be in that metaverse at the time. This allows for interactivity, which static web pages/directories (which most Chambers only have) can’t replicate. Many metaverse platforms do not require any extra technology such as headsets or glasses, and most can work just on desktop or laptop computers. Some also allow people to access even on mobile devices.

If you are the kind of person who says, “I don’t care about fake trade shows and metaverses and the such. All I care about is MY land and how it relates to ACTUAL places on Earth, such as my office or store,” then no problem! There are some metaverse platforms which are based around Earth and actual latitude/longitude locations. Here is a video of what is coming soon for just one of the roughly 12 (at the time of this post) Earth-based metaverses:

You also may say, “I don’t care about any of those things. My only concern for marketing is increasing my local search engine rankings. If I can rank at the top of the search engines for ‘my business category + CITY’ then I won’t have to worry about anything related to web3.” If this is you then no problem at all!

Of the roughly 12 platforms, at least 4 of them have local SEO rank-boosting potential. This article just begins to touch on this potential:

https://www.morethanseo.com/seo/seo-for-local-businesses-using-virtual-lands-nfts-web3-metaverse-and-ai/

You also can, or soon will be able to, use web3 technology to overcome local business owner “headaches” such as:

Getting access to capital and/or other financing

Expanding into new towns

Creating a program to reward loyal customers/clients/patients

Reducing the risk of your shared content getting your account suspended or eliminated, such as what many business owners experienced in the post-2020 environment

Making their “boring” businesses more exciting, especially to a younger audience which doesn’t trust print advertising, flyers, mailers, and other local marketing methods trusted by an older generation

Over time you will see more web3 at the local level. Feel free to connect if you wish to discuss this in more detail. Thank you.
