Introduction

The Pool Points Party is designed to build and sustain borrowable liquidity for the Loop protocol by encouraging users to deposit Ethereum (ETH) and Liquid Restaking Tokens (LRT). The program rewards participants with Quaaloops based on their contributions, distributed hourly to promote early and sustained participation.

The Pool Party also features a referral system. When a deposit is made using a referral link, the user who provided the referral receives 20% of all Quaaloops awarded to the depositooor.

The Points Program operates in phases, known as epochs, which are structured to gradually enhance participant engagement and deepen protocol liquidity as the roll-out of the protocol progresses.

The Epochs

In Epoch 1, you are rewarded for depositing ETH and LRTs along with participation in the referral program. Withdrawals of deposits are enabled but result in a 50% slashing of the points generated by that asset. Among Restaking Protocols, there is the Loop Olympics with the first prize of a 1% LOOP Airdrop. But more on that in an upcoming blog article.

In Epoch 2, you can convert your existing deposits to WETH and mint lpETH at a 1 to 1 ratio. You now get points simply for holding lpETH. Withdrawals are disabled and replaced by trading lpETH on DEXes. If you provide liquidity on a DEX and lock lpETH-ETH LP tokens on Loop, you get a large points multiplier.

With the initiation of Epoch 3, the protocol launches. You now can earn Quaaloops for all actions on the protocol: Looping Pendle Restaking LP Tokens, lending ETH and holding the receipt token lpETH, staking lpETH to earn interest, providing liquidity for lpETH, locking lpETH to forfeit yield but maximize points.

The Token Launch

6 months after launching the protocol or after reaching $100M in TVL (whichever comes first) this third epoch ends and the LOOP token launches with an Airdrop.

7% will be Airdropped with a linear conversion among all participants. Only the largest wallets will be prone to a vesting schedule over 6 months with a 50% unlock at TGE.

With the token launch, the protocol unlocks its final form and goes super saiyajin. 20% of all revenue captured flows directly to the users that lock the LOOP token as liquidity in the dLP. Loopers maintaining a dLP value exceeding 5% of their Total Position Size qualify for LOOP token emissions to offset borrowing costs incurred from leveraging. This way, demand is created and only protocol aligned users receive token emissions.

Closing Statement

We are in an era of predatory tokenomics, where upside value is almost exclusively being captured in private rounds by VCs and early angel investors. These groups are able to move money from retails pocket into their pocket at every launch thanks to the high FDV/low float paradigm that has plagued the 2024 cycle so far. The market needs tokens valued fairly at launch with a reasonable float/supply, reasonable liquidity and a chance for retail investors - the real users and supporters of the projects - to get early access too.

Utility of the NFT

Being an owner of an Aficionado NFT will grant you a fixed Loop Points allocation - for free. Each NFT Holder receives 500 Loop Points which are equal to participating with 0.33 ETH ($1.000) in the Points Program. Furthermore holders receive a 20% lifetime boost in the Points Program for any deposits.

Yields are the biggest narrative in DeFi. It doesn't matter how you earn them, they're the holy grail everyone's chasing. It's like Darwin's theory, but instead of survival of the fittest, it's survival of the yieldiest. We've all been taught that chasing the highest yield leads to passive income and financial freedom. And now, the latest playground for these tempting yields is the restaking market.

Loop Protocol steps into Ethereum's restaking scene with a clear goal: to provide credit, improve liquidity and (de)generate yield. While LRTs and especially Pendle LRT LPs are gaining traction, Loop aims to offer a secondary market use case that improves capital efficiency even further. It‘s like Inception: we need to go deeper.

Loop’s Role in the Restaking Market:

Loop acts as a Credit Hub for Ethereum Restaking. A lending market tailored to ETH-denominated carry trades based on LRTs. Users can use various yield generating LRT receipts as collateral to borrow ETH and multiply their yield exposure while remaining price insensitive. By introducing attractive secondary market usage for LRT LPs, Loop enhances general capital efficiency and deepens the liquidity of the underlying LRT.

Importance of Restaking in the Ethereum Ecosystem:

Restaking is becoming a north star in Ethereum's DeFi landscape, causing rates to skyrocket all around! Currently 25% of total ETH supply is staked, and EigenLayer accounts for roughly 3.4%, equivalent to a hefty $15 billion.

EigenLayer's restaking narrative has become the hottest narrative in DeFi, offering shared security models for various services. The newborn liquid restaking landscape is booming, with billions in TVL flowing in.

Industry innovations:

Loop took a significant stride forward by introducing its YED (Yield-backed ETH Derivative), which is acting like a bond for a basket of LRTs, enabling a diversified restaking yield exposure. The receipt token of Loops YED is lpETH. Moreover lpETH can be staked for slpETH to receive a share of platform revenue, generated from the interest paid by loopers (borrowers).

Loop is opening the doors for delta-neutral leveraged yield farming on the fundament of DeFi‘s most promising sustainable yield source: ETH restaking yield. The looping process is fully automated and finalised in one transaction. In total loopers can be eligible to receive income from six different yield sources at the same time:

• Eigenlayer Restaking Yield

• LRT Emissions

• Pendle Swap Fees

• Pendle Emissions

• Loop Emissions (if eligible)

• Protocol Revenue Share (if eligible)

Conclusion

The future of Ethereum Restaking is bright. Due to the more attractive returns in comparison to native or liquid staking, it‘s likely for Restaking to attract similar if not even more capital. Loop positions itself at the forefront of Ethereum Restaking as the LRT Credit Hub. Adding capital efficient high yielding secondary market utility to the flourishing LRT sector.

A quick scan of the lending avenues facilitating the ETH carry trade (i.e., borrowing for cheaper than the yield earned on leveraged collateral), however, shows that there are still opportunities for optimization. Users tend to go about it in one of two ways:

• Borrow dollars against ETH-denominated collateral

• Borrow ETH against ETH-denominated collateral

In the case of the former, borrowers are limited in the leverage they can take on because DeFi lending platforms need to protect against bad debt risk with conservative loan-to-value ratios. Users who want to borrow dollars wind up getting 70 to 80% of their collateral value as a result.

Platforms that facilitate the borrowing of ETH against ETH-denominated liquid staking tokens (LSTs) or liquid restakings tokens (LRTs) are able to offer a much higher loan-to-value ratio as there is not as stark of an asset-liability mismatch, though collateral depegs are of course possible. That said, In the world of utilization based interest rates, this quickly leads to an unattractive cost of capital.

We’re launching Loop Protocol as a hybrid solution capable of offering high leverage on ETH yields with favorable long-term interest rates for aligned borrowers.

What is Loop?

Loop is a dedicated lending market for Ethereum carry trades. Users will be able to supply a long tail of LSTs, LRTs, and their derivatives as collateral in order to borrow ETH for increased yield exposure.

• Lenders deposit ETH and receive back a receipt token, lpETH, that can be used throughout DeFi as well as staked to earn further subsidies beyond just protocol interest

• Loopers borrow ETH for automated releveraging strategies based on the collateral they provided in order to augment their ETH-denominated yields

Both sides can benefit from reduced protocol fees and extra rewards by locking a dynamic liquidity pool (dLP) token composed of the protocol’s governance token, LOOP, paired against lpETH. This ensures that protocol power users receive preferential rates all while keeping them aligned for the long term.

The goal of Loop is to create the most efficient market possible for ETH staking. By unlocking affordable credit for any type of LST, or the liquidity pool token of an LRT, Loop is able to level the playing field for all protocols working towards diversifying where users put their ETH to work. Moreover, we see lpETH lowering the barrier to entry for users who want to benefit from this releveraging activity without having to actively manage their positions, as it provides blended exposure to borrowing demand across all supported collateral pathways.

What is a dLP?

Loop has taken inspiration from the team behind Radiant Capital which introduced the concept of dynamic liquidity pool token staking. With the dLP model, users can make themselves eligible for protocol emissions and rebates by holding a threshold amount of the governance token paired against ETH; in their case, the dLP must be worth at least 5% of the user TVL provided to the protocol. This shifts rewards away from outright mercenary capital by incentivizing users to take longer term stakes in the performance of the underlying protocol.

With Loop, we’re taking this model one step further by pairing the protocol’s token, LOOP, against its issued asset, lpETH. This will ensure that the Loop dLP serves as a natural demand sink for lpETH due to users needing it to participate in staking. However, like with Radiant Capital, this pairing will still occur in an 80/20 Balancer pool. Any price distortion this activity has on the secondary price of lpETH can then be arbitraged through the minting or redemption of lpETH by third parties.

Users will be able to choose whether to lock their dLP stakes for durations of either one, three, six, or 12 months. As long as they maintain a threshold amount of stake, currently assumed to be 5% of the value of their borrowing activity, they will be eligible for augmented protocol emissions and revenue distributions. This implicitly results in lower borrowing rates and higher supply rates for aligned users. In practice, what this means is that Loop can charge higher borrowing rates upfront and rebate such users over time to the point where they wind up paying less or earning more than they would have on alternate platforms. The end result is a competitive moat that builds up over time in the form of to-be-paid-out subsidies. Moreover, this model provides more working capital for the protocol with which to de-risk its exposure as it onboards long tail collateral from Ethereum’s staking landscape.
