In-house mail from Meta showed that at the end of the summer of 2022, Chief Executive Officer Meta, Mark Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg), had convened his main assistant for five hours of analytical discussions on the computational capacity of Meta, focusing on the capacity of Meta to carry out advanced manual (AI) work.

According to internal mail, company announcements and the disclosure of relevant informants, Meta faces a difficult problem: Despite large-scale investments in AI research, the slow progress in Meta on how to introduce AI-friendly soft hardware systems in the main operations. This has affected the company’s temptation to promote overall innovation, in the context of increasing reliance on Meta to support further growth.

This email comes from Santos Janardhan (Santosh Janardhan), the new head of infrastructure in Meta, which shows: “In the context of the development of AI, we are significantly lagging behind in tools, workflows and processes, requiring significant investment in this area.” The mail was released in September on the Net in Meta and was recently exposed for the first time.

The mail also indicated that the support of AI would require Meta to “change radically the design of hardware infrastructure, software systems, and ways of providing a stable platform”.

Over a year, Meta is carrying out a large project to replenish its AI infrastructure. Although Meta publicly acknowledges that there are some backwards in the development of AI’s hardware, details in this regard, including weight pressure, management change and an abandoned AI chip project, have never been reported.

With regard to the mail and related restructuring initiatives, the Honourable Meta, Joen Carvill, stated that “Tata has been proven in the construction and deployment of the most advanced large-scale infrastructure, thanks to its deep expertise in AI research and engineering development”.

He stated: “As we provide new AI experiences for the application and consumption of products, we are confident that we will continue to build infrastructure capacity to meet short-term and long-term needs.”

However, he refused to respond to the news that Meta abandoned the AI chip project.

According to the information disclosed by Meta, the reorganization resulted in a quarterly increase of about $4 billion in capital spending by the company, almost double the year 2021 and resulted in the suspension or cancellation of the construction plan for the data centre at four locations.

Meta is also facing financial pressure. Since last November, Meta has launched a large-scale redundancy that has not been available since the end of the millennium Internet.

On the other hand, Microsoft-supported OpenAI issued ChatGPT on 30 November last year, an AI chat machine that quickly became the fastest ever-growing consumer-grade application and triggered an arms race between scientific and technological giants. Large scientific and technological firms have introduced their own generation AI products. In addition to identifying the models in the data, such an AI can generate text and visual content in a similar manual manner based on input information.

According to several sources, the generation of AI consumes a large amount of accounting, leading to a more urgent need for an expanded computing infrastructure in Meta.

Annex

Inadequate investment in projects that burned money

According to sources, one of the key aspects of the problem is that Meta is very late in starting to introduce GPU cores in AI. GPU is well suited to AI calculations and can carry out a large number of tasks in parallel, significantly reducing the time-consuming processing of volume data. Of course, prices are also more expensive, and 80 per cent of the market share is in the glorious hands.

As a result, Meta is largely dependent on the CPU to undertake AI calculations. CPU is the main core of the computer industry, which has spread throughout the world over the past several decades, but is not well suited to processing the AI counting mandate.

According to two sources, Meta also uses self-designed chips for AI reasoning. However, by 2021, the use of CPU and chips proved to be slower and less efficient in the AI area than in GPU. In addition, the GPU is more flexible in operating different types of AI models than the chip used in Meta.

Meta refused to evaluate the performance of its AI chip.

According to sources, with Zackerberg pushing Meta towards the universe, pressure has affected the ability of Meta to deploy AI to respond to competitive threats, such as the emergence of a social media counterpart, TikTok, and apple-led privacy policy adjustments.

These setbacks were also brought to the attention of Peter Thiel, former Board member of Meta. He resigned from the Meta Board in early 2022 but did not provide any explanation.

According to known sources, at a Board meeting prior to his resignation, Türk told Meta occupants that they were too complacent in the core social media of Meta and that the universe was too flammable.

Table 2

Alternative GPU, but lagging behind

According to a source, in 2022, following the elimination of large-scale deployment plans for corollary, the Meta Custodians began to procure hundreds of billions of dollars in Anglo-GPU. At that time, Meta had apparently lagged behind rivals such as Google. Google began to deploy a ready version of GPU, TPU, as early as 2015.

In the spring of 2022, Meta High Authority also initiated the restructuring of the Meta-AI sector, with the appointment of two new engineering directors, including the September mail writer, Jalalhan. According to information on the Leading Platform and informed persons, over a period of several months of turmoil, over a dozen managers separated from Meta. The management team for the MetaAI infrastructure was almost completely replaced.

Next, Meta began replanting the data centre infrastructure to accommodate the upcoming GPU core. Compared to the CPU, the GPU consumes more electricity and heat, and needs to be clustered through specially designed networks.

According to mail and news sources in Jalalhan, these facilities require 24 to 32 times the network capacity and new water capacity.

Law enforcement officers conduct law enforcement inspections in a hotel lobby.

The illegal establishment and use of radio stations has long been one of the major pitfalls in disrupting the air wave order and disrupting the normal use of radio operations at legitimate stations. Over the years, the Radio Monitoring Centre in the municipality of Wei, in the Province of Shanxi, has been active in exploring practices that have emerged from a three-pronged road of prevention, control and management, effectively defusing the problem of illegal pumping.

The first is “preventive”. Medical treatment is provided, medical treatment is provided and medical treatment is provided. Prevention is a priority in order to effectively break out of the problem of illegal establishment. Over the years, the Radio Monitoring Centre in the City of Wetland has taken the important moments of the World Radio Day, World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, Radio Management Promotion Month, etc., making full use of radio and television, newspapers, websites, microfiscal masses, active in the form of animated films, legal interviews, “five” face-to-face interaction, public service announcements, etc., and has endeavoured to raise awareness throughout society that radio spectrum resources are scarce in the country, that radio stations must be used in accordance with the law, and that radio stations must be charged with criminal charges and even criminal charges. On the one hand, users who intend to set up their desks are allowed to burn down their own booths, and on the other hand, they have a certain deterrent effect on those who have already been installed. The results of the wide dissemination are very significant, and there is an increasing number of users who have taken the initiative to establish desks in accordance with the law.

The second is “control”. Control is an important instrument. The Van Hai City Radio Monitoring Centre focuses on strengthening “control” in three ways. The first is to regulate the marketing of radio-launch equipment. Insisting on regular and irregular inspections, it is determined to eliminate the inflow of unauthorized radio launch equipment into the market, to induce distributors to sell radio launch equipment in a timely manner to inform, and first to have information on purchase units (individuals), mode of contact, type of equipment and quantity, in order to carry out timely, targeted dissemination of laws and regulations governing radio management, and to urge them to proceed as expeditiously as possible. The second is the control of information on the procurement units of radio-launch equipment published by the Government Procurement Network. Daily Internet access visits are conducted to capture information from procurement units in a timely manner, and information is found to be immediately followed up until it is established by law. The third is monitoring the subject of inspection. The establishment of a follow-up information bank will include those who are required to process the withdrawal of radio stations, the suspension of their use, the discovery of unauthorized booths that have been disposed of, and the indication by users that they will no longer be used in the future, the analysis of the need for the use of radio stations according to the operator’s business, and other cases requiring follow-up. Follow-up checks are conducted on a regular or irregular basis.

The third is “correction”. Governance is the last line of “management”. In order to make this point good, the WVC radio monitoring centre opens telephone calls for reporting complaints and is open to society as a whole, encourages the masses to report complaints in a timely manner and to organize their effective disposal; provides detailed radio monitoring to ensure that the frequency spectrum is used in a number of minds, and, once unidentified signals and harmful interferences are discovered, conducts regularized law enforcement inspections, establishes illegal booths for discovery, and distinguishes between different circumstances.
