The future of social networks is certainly decentralized and Farcaster is proof of that. It’s safe to say that what Farcaster did in the previous months is nothing short of extraordinary. They’ve recently reached a new milestone of 300k active monthly users and have developed some top-notch innovations around the social network itself, web3 identity, social graphs, protocol design, and other areas. They are actively pushing the boundaries in decentralized social network space, pioneering some of the coolest features like Tips ($DEGEN powered tips as user-chosen best content), Frames (programmable interactive posts), and Actions to further supercharge the user experience with more utility.

Namespace’s mission has always been to democratize access to web3 identity by making ENS available and accessible everywhere and the social layer of the new decentralized internet is closely tied to our identities.

As Web3 developers, we love to experiment and test other teams’ products. This is the type of mindset that we advocate for and it’s the type of mindset that led us to become 1) the Farcaster OGs and 2) Farcaster builders.

We are using new technologies and innovations in the Web3 space as onboarding vehicles to equip everyone with Web3-native digital identity powered by ENS!

Starting today, all ENS Name owners can issue (gift or sell) ENS Subnames through Farcaster Frames! Not only that, they can use the entire Namespace selling customization setup and set up different prices for different types of subnames. These Subnames are 100% unruggable, emancipated from the parent-level name, and completely in the hands of the users minting them. A perfect use-case for issuing unruggable web3 identity using Farcaster Frames and a protocol pioneering decentralized social networks in which a great part of our identity lies.

For any protocol or a chain to keep growing it’s important, among other things, to develop a strong community of

1. hardcore builders and

2. hardcore degens

Farcaster is a perfect mix of both, all hosted on a novel decentralized social layer.

Furthermore, as Web3 is still (for the most part) in its R&D and experimental phase of evolution, it’s very important to test and use new technology, innovations, products and chains and even social movements like degen-culture to leverage their strength to onboard people to crypto and ENS.

And benefits of having an ENS name or a subname as your dedicated web3 identity and a name for your wallet is already well established by now!

In a nutshell, this is our first meaningful attempt to experiment with the social layer as a way to issue digital identity to people.

1. Go to the Namespace platform: https://app.namespace.tech/

2. Connect your wallet and sign the Term of Service.

3. Navigate to “Account”

4. Then click on the “Manager” tab

5. Select the ENS Name you want to issue Subnames from

6. If the selected name is not Wrapped, you must Wrap it by clicking the “Wrap” button.

7. After that, you can customize the minting price for different subnames:

   1. Set base minting price

   2. Set special price for subnames based on length (special price for 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. letters subnames)

   3. Set special prices for digits-only, letters-only, or emoji-only characters

   4. Reserve some subnames for yourself and disallow people to mint them

   5. Or mint special subnames for special prices

8. **Note, other features like Whitelisting, Deadline, and Token-gated minting currently don’t work for Frames!

9. After you’re happy with the setup, click LIST.

10. Head over to the “Widgets” tab now

11. Click on Frames and generate a Warpcast link and share it and voila, you’re all set!

The manager is responsible for configuring and listing ENS names so people can mint subnames from them.

• Reduced gas fees by migrating configuration set up offchain

• Added token-gated minting for communities, allowing people to mint Subname from some ENS name only if they hold certain NFTs

• Improved user experience.

Offchain subname API support with detailed technical documentation.

We offer offchain subname support from now on as well. As we see our mission to grow ENS and integrate it everywhere, it’s hard to deny the interest people and projects have for offchain subnames due to their lack of use and flexibility for the owners in terms of maintaining a certain degree of control over what happens with subnames.

Namespace offchain subname support includes:

1. Minting offchain subname
   1.1. Ability to mint subnames to multichain addresses and associate them to different coin types as per ENSIP-9
   1.2. By default subname minted for coin type 60 (Ethereum)

2. Subname data management
   2.1. Check subname availability (if available for minting)
   2.2. Subname address resolution – 1) Subname address resolution through OffchainResolver and CCIP read gateway and 2) Multichain address resolution as per ENSIP-9
   2.3. Data management – Stores and retrieves all data associated with the subname: addresses with coin types, text records, and custom data.

3. Text record management
   3.1. Create, update, and delete subname text records
   3.2. Retrieve single or all subname text records
   3.3. Text record resolution

4. Custom data support
   4.1. Besides text records, the API allows for the storage of custom data JSON objects
   4.2. Create, update, and delete custom subname data
   4.3. Retrieve single or all custom subname data

And we keep updating it and adding more support with each new client we get and per their request.

Reworked our backend API and Smart Contracts. The backend now handles the creation of listing configuration and gives verification for minting subnames. Listing configurations are now stored offchain so that ENS name owners don’t have to pay high gas fees for listing names and updating listings.

Easy-to-follow tutorials on how to implement ENS Names and Subnames for different purposes.

Currently, we have a how-to guide on How-To Mint Subnames on L1 1 from start to finish.

One of our goals is to integrate ENS everywhere and also to make it easily accessible everywhere, especially for as many developers and teams as possible. That said, we are constantly working on adding ENS to as many different apps, wallets, games, and other products, and also, adding it into a foundational layer to all blockchain tools and infrastructure provider companies, enabling developers quick access and easy integration of ENS.

Unicorn.eth – smart wallet

Unicorn uses Namespace’s Offchain implementation for integrating ENS subnames. Unicorn will gift its wallet users subnames from *.unicorn.eth and give them a brandable wallet name.

Web3js – JavaScript library for building on Ethereum

We built a Web3js Plugin that extends the ENS functionality, by providing the latest ENS features such as:

• ENS name registration

• Setting and retrieving text records

• Setting and retrieving addresses

• Reverses name resolution

Tatum – All-in-one blockchain development platform for Web3 builders

We built a custom extension that plugs into Tatum SDK to help their developers use ENS easily. Currently supports:

• ENS name registration

• Setting and retrieving text records

• Setting and retrieving addresses

• Reverses name resolution

Unlike Web3js, Tatum doesn’t offer any ENS native integration and support so there is a lot we can do to further develop and improve this.

QuickNode – Blockchain infrastructure provider

Namespace is the official QuickNode Partner. We built and deployed our own Offchain Subname API as their marketplace add-on. Immediately providing access to easy ENS Offchain integration, allowing smooth ENS Subname issuance and management to more than 125k active developers using QuickNode.

• Created QuickNOde add-on for Offchain Subnames API

• Created integration and registration process to allow QuickNOde developers to register and use the API

We need to meet the developers where they are already building and using the services from existing development providers. Therefore, the Namespace team will continuously support, upgrade, and maintain all custom-built add-ons, plugins, and extensions that make it easy for other developers to integrate and use ENS.

What is Namespace?

Namespace is an ENS-based Digital Identity Platform + Developer Toolkit.

Our mission is to Democratize Access to Web3 Identity through ENS.

Our job is to make sure ENS is THE naming system of Web3.

1) Community

Who is the Community?

The community represents every single ENS name owner who wants to issue Subnames with ease to their followers, members, supporters, etc.

Individual ENS Name Owners

Usually, individual ENS Name holders who have kick-ass names and want to put them to work are people we love working with! They either want to put their names to work by issuing them for free or selling them and making a profit.

Communities

Thanks to our Token-gated feature, communities that are looking to issue subnames and reward their community members with unique digital identities can do so in a very smooth way, using only our platform without knowing anything about the technical stuff behind these subnames.

One of the coolest things we ever built is our ENS Widget powered by Namespace protocol. It allows anyone with an ENS name to list that name on Namespace, create the widget on our platform, integrate it on their own website or a blog, and start selling subnames from there directly.

2) Developers

Who are the Developers?

When we say developers we usually mean integration partners such as games, wallets, infrastructure, or developer tooling platforms.

We are continuously building the infrastructure to support the easy implementation of ENS as a protocol and take full advantage of its capabilities primarily through Subnames that can serve multiple purposes.

Our job is to make sure ENS is THE naming system of Web3.

We achieve that by 1) proactively integrating ENS with other dapps and projects, and 2) building cool stuff for the ENS community.

What can you currently do on Namespace?

1. Register ENS name or subname

Currently, you can register both an ENS Name and a Subname.

Instead of showing you the name you searched for, Namespace also offers cool subnames you might want as an alternative if your Name is already registered.

Optionally, during registration, you can choose whether or not to select that name to be your primary name.

2. List names and issue subnames

Listing your ENS name from which you want to issue subnames will require approving our contract to do the minting on your behalf.

Once listed, people will be able to mint subnames from your name while you can track the registrations and potentially earn money with every registration.

Before listing you’ll be asked to configure how you want to issue Subnames which brings us to customization.

3. Customize issuing subnames

1. Customize minting price based on length — you can choose a custom price for subnames with 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. letters and also set the base price for all others.

2. Issue FREE subnames — if you want to issue free subnames, you just need to put the base price to be ‘0’ and that’s it.

3. Reserve subnames — reserving some subnames for yourself allows you to keep subnames for yourself and disallow anyone else to mint them. You can treat this feature as a blacklist of certain words to be minted or as a feature where you can set special prices only for certain words.

4. Set a minting deadline — set the future deadline for how long the minting will stay open.

5. Whitelist wallets — currently, there are two options when it comes to whitelisting:

   1. Only whitelisted addresses can mint - whoever is whitelisted will be able to mint a Subname and everyone else won't be allowed to mint at all.

   2. Whitelisted addresses can mint for free - whoever is whitelisted will be able to mint for free and everyone else will have to pay for predefined prices set by the ENS Name owner.

4. Issue Community Subnames

Token-gated listing allows ENS Name owners to token-gate who gets to mint the Subname based on the certain token holding.

Currently, we support token-gated minting for:

1. ERC20 tokens - anyone holding a certain number of ERC20 tokens can mint a subname.

2. ERC721 - anyone holding certain ERC721 NFT will be able to mint a subname.

3. ERC1155 - anyone holding certain ERC1155 NFT will be able to mint a subname.

This feature is especially valuable for Communities, PFP collections, private groups, etc. who already have token-gated access of some kind, and now want to reward their users with unique and web3-native digital identity.

It’s been a while since we posted anything. We’ve been busy building, rebuilding, designing, redesigning, participating in the ENS Service Stream provider grants program, and thinking about Digital Identity and its future in the context of the Web3 world and the new internet that is being created.

#1 Officially full-time!

Thanks to ENS DAO and Service provides grants our entire team will start building Namespace full time starting today! Namespace was selected as one of the 9 projects to be funded to continue its development and we cannot be more thankful and excited!

We have AvsA to thank the most for pioneering this Service Provider initiative, revitalizing and breathing life into the ENS ecosystem with a $3.8M strong capital injection. A true visionary and Web3 steward who understands the importance of ENS Ecosystem projects and the importance they carry to maintaining ENS protocol’s dominant position in the evergrowing market.

#2 Launched Digital Identity channel on Warpcast (Farcaster)

It is of utmost importance to stay up to date with the latest trends and developments if you want to be competitive and one of the best in the market! That said, we launched a Digital Identity channel on Farcaster.

We encourage everyone interested in DIDs, Attestations, onchain reputation, verifiable claims, and Decentralized and Digital identity. The channel already has amazing people who are thought leaders and digital identity builders and a lot more will join!

#3 New Website created

Design revamp with a new website with a .tech extension that incorporates a broader scope of our services, cleaner design, and the latest features, services, and products we’re working on! You can check out our new website at namespace.tech. The new website currently opens our Dapp on Sepolia, and it’s not live on the mainnet yet! We are getting ready to launch on the mainnet pretty soon and we’ll publish an announcement about it as well.

#4 Official Namespace Dev Docs

Considering Namespace is expanding its product and service offer to API+SDK services we launched our official Namespace GitBook. Documentation includes the Namespace’s mission, entire modus operandi of Registrar, Manager, products and features, Usecases, API dev docs, and guides.

#5 ENS Widget is LIVE for testing on Sepolia

It’s finally here!

You can test it on https://staging-app.namespace.ninja/ and see if it works. You can test it and let us know in Discord if you find any bugs.

When it comes to the widget, you can now customize how you want to use the Widget, import it, and start issuing Subnames from your own websites, platforms, etc.

#6 Token-gated Subname Minting (for communities)

We officially added support for token-gated subnames minting. What does that mean? It means that we allow communities to token-gate who gets to mint their subnames from the ENS name they own. Meaning, only people holding certain NFTs will be allowed to mint a subname.

#7 Team growing - hired new front-end dev/ninja

A lot of our work focuses on providing the best user experience for our end users, therefore, we hired a new front-end dev to join the Namespace team.

#8 Other Tech updates

• Migrated to Sepolia because Goerli for our test environment because Goerli support has been stopped.

• Remove commitment from the Subname registration and widget too!

• Digital Ocean gave us 5k USD free credits so we migrated our servers there.

• Significantly reduced gas fees for users because we rebuilt our Listing configuration and optimized it to offload unnecessary onchain storage.

• Implemented the latest ENSjs-V3 library.

• Implemented a monitoring and logging system to track errors to ensure the app runs smoothly all the time.

• Added security layer: encrypting the verifier wallet with Hashicorp vault for enhanced security.

• Added support for token-gated minting subnames.

• Developed and deployed a new contract for offchain listing and minting.

• Added the ability to mint and customize the minting price for any letter of Subnames underneath ENS names being listed.

• Developed a custom resolver contract on L2 with a sponsored wallet to cover gas fees on behalf of users.
