In web3, the parity is one ecosystem with as many applications as possible:

• Ethereum for databases

• Polkadot for chains

• What about NFTs?

Owning an iPhone gives access to Apple iOS (operating system) and the underlying ecosystems (software). By analogy, similar principles apply to NFT ownership.

In 2021, the most popular NFT categories on Opensea were collectibles and art. In 2022, the beginning of utility NFTs and different experiments begin to emerge, such as social identity, membership pass for exclusive physical spaces, and metaverse world building aka choose-your-own-story.

But if we were to explore further, can we reimagine NFTs as operating systems (protocols) instead of hardware (collectibles)?

NFT as an operating system

This is the core of my work at BEBverse domains. There are two components:

• .beb is the actual NFT and represents a new on-chain namespace. If .eth represents identity, .beb represents community. Owning gives you moderation and role-assigning abilities for that community.

• BEBverse is an on-chain protocol backing the .beb NFT. You must own the .beb to plug into the protocol and experience different applications building on top of it. Anyone can permissionlessly build and extend the protocol, hence the term Super NFT.

What can you build?

In other words, why can’t we just use the centralized solutions in web2?

In a world of product sameness, we will see more and more story-driven products.

Communities will all eventually exit centralized monoliths to have custom and dedicated apps.

Examples of what is possible:

• Experience Shogun Japan like a West World Park in VR, where you bring your squads to fight together

• A physically gated concert for the premium members of your comunity

• Existing applications for a core feature with different ‘vibes’, e.g a gated social audio club for Warriors fans and another for Raptors fans. I like to think of those small apps the difference between the Gem Saloon and the Bella Union in Deadwood.

• Any social experience tailored exactly to your community’s need

1. Register a community on beb.domains

Go to beb.domains and search for the name of the community you want to register.

After committing, wait 15 seconds to register, and wait for the registration transaction to go through.

If all is successful, you should see this screen:

Click ‘set up roles’, and you should see this screen to initialize the community.

3. Create the Farcaster role

The Beb protocol gates content depending on a set of ‘rules’, which can be owning a specific NFTs or having a connected Farcaster address.

By clicking “add new role”, you should see a modal like this which automatically has assign the role to any Farcaster users.

This grants the role to all existing users in the deployed Farcaster registrar. Future registration will be indexed at a ~15 minutes intervals.

4. Configure the role’s permission

Click on the permission tab to grant permissions to the role members.

5. Wait for the members to be populated

If all is set up, you should see the role’s members being populated automatically. You can then access the community at https://[community_name].beb.xyz.
