Donald Trump gave a speech at the 2024 Bitcoin Conference, highlighting key factors he believes are important for the American crypto community.

  • SEC Leadership Change. Trump pledged to fire Gary Gensler and appoint a new SEC chairman on his first day in office.

  • Strategic Bitcoin Stockpile. He proposed creating a U.S. government strategic national Bitcoin stockpile and stated the government would retain all its Bitcoin holdings.

  • Bitcoin and Gold. Trump predicted that Bitcoin would one day surpass the market cap of gold.

  • Stance on CBDCs. He declared that there would never be a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) while he was President.

  • Pro-Bitcoin Policies. Trump promised that under his administration, the U.S. would become the global leader in cryptocurrency and Bitcoin, ending what he described as the Biden administration's anti-crypto stance.

D. Trump is famous for his populistic claims but it seems that the Twitter community is happy with his promises.

Renzo Amore

One of the biggest liquid restaking protocols finishes its airdrop seasons and starts an incentives campaign.

The Renzo Amore initiative plans to distribute 5% of the total $REZ supply over five months to reward loyal community members and encourage continued participation in Renzo and the broader DeFi ecosystem.

This allocation will be retroactively distributed, with 4% going to ezPoints recipients and 1% allocated for token emissions to incentivize liquidity.

The timeline for the distribution is from July 26th to the end of November 2024. A total of 400 million REZ tokens will be distributed retroactively to eligible wallets.

Additionally, 100 million REZ tokens will be allocated to decentralized exchange liquidity providers who add liquidity to the ezETH/ETH and pzETH/wstETH pools over 16 weeks. Any REZ tokens not used for DEX liquidity incentives will be returned to the DAO treasury at the end of the campaign.

The news that Joe Biden declined to run for the upcoming U.S. elections caused a brief panic drop in cryptocurrency prices.

Despite very different circumstances, the news of an attempt on Trump’s life two weeks ago had a similar effect on prices. In the last hours of Sunday, prices quickly rebounded after the initial drop and are now quite volatile at the start of the week

Expect that Biden’s endorsement of Kamala Harris will signal that news about her or other potential replacements will become trending topics impacting cryptocurrencies. Regardless of your interest (or lack thereof) in U.S. politics, the social volume of these major topics continues to show a fragile correlation with speculative cryptocurrency prices.

Why Do Pendle Returns Decrease?

The trend is more comprehensive than you may think and the core issue is restaking. Pendle has recently launched new token markets that mature in October and December 2024, with APYs that are less impressive than expected. Most ETH derivatives offer a fixed APY of 4-15%, while USD markets yield 10-20% APY. This may be acceptable for some users, but it pales in comparison to the ~60% APY on USDe back in May.

Maturity of Liquid Restaking

Kelp, Renzo, Swell, and other restaking solutions are no longer in their early stages. Their TVL (Total Value Locked) is enormous, and their use cases span various protocols and chains. Some projects have already introduced their tokens, while others plan to do so soon.

Users now have a better understanding of their airdrop returns and what to expect from these solutions. All these factors indicate a relative maturity in the market, making extraordinary yields unlikely.

Proliferation of Restaking Projects

Many protocols want a piece of the pie, but it is finite. With numerous protocols restaking on EigenLayer, Symbiotic, and Karak, the market lacks a dominant player that will airdrop a large sum of tokens generously.

Each protocol needs to allocate funds for marketing, collaborations, team salaries, development, and other expenses. This competition dilutes yields for each project individually.

Ethena’s sUSDe Yields Have Decreased

sUSDe no longer offers the 35-40% APR it once did. As returns have decreased, demand has responded accordingly. The current yield now varies between 9-12% APY.

Tokenized NVIDIA SharesThe market for tokenized assets is on the brink of revolutionizing the world of blockchain solutions. However, many of the big ideas are still in their early stages. In 2018, a project named Synthetix attempted to tokenize stocks, but the effort was thwarted by the US government.

The situation now appears to be changing. INX, a Canadian trading platform, has introduced $bNVDA, tokens backed by real $NVDA shares held in the exchange's accounts. Crucially, $bNVDA can be traded by non-US citizens. But how has this become possible, given the previous US government restrictions on such activities?

Tokenized NVIDIA Shares

The answer lies in cross-market regulations. The tokens are issued in Switzerland through INX's partner Backed. Favorable market regulations and trading conditions between the US, Canada, and Switzerland have enabled the issuance of $bNVDA under European regulations. Additionally, INX requires users to pass KYC (Know Your Customer) checks to use the exchange, making it unlikely that sanctioned individuals can access the platform.

During the recent week $BTC reached its lowest value since February. Order books were full of coins for sale, Fear & Greed Index reached 26 points. Notum has found the reasons for such a sharp decrease in the market and is ready to share with you what to expect in the future.

  • Mt.Gox

Many people do not even know what Mt.Gox is but back in 2014, it was one of the biggest crypto exchanges. Due to the lack of quality exchange security and an immature crypto market, the exchange was hacked and filed for bankruptcy. 10 years later, the exchange announced that it would return the stolen $BTC to the owners.

Mt. Gox owes 142,000 $BTC or 0.68% of the total Bitcoin supply. Many investors, fearing a possible influx of tokens to the market and a subsequent price drop, started selling, causing a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  • German crypto 🇩🇪

A wallet that Arkham defines as the “German Government” has recently transferred around 2700 to different centralized exchanges. The expectation of a surge in token sales worries many investors, who prefer to avoid risks and plan to reinvest once the price reaches its minimum.

  • Pressure from miners 🧨

After the April halving, miners started to earn less and waited for a price peak to sell their rewards. Most industrial miners have employees and other fixed costs that they need to cover every month.

Many of them expected a rise in; therefore, they held the coins. When it became obvious that wouldn't pump by the beginning of June, many miners rushed to sell some of their. In a declining market, miners’ sellings gave additional negative pressure.

  • But guys, keep your heads up! 👆

Whales are still holding their tokens and the current craze is just a temporary market shock. Despite the seemingly large amounts of BTC held by Germany and Mt. Gox, their share is small relative to the total BTC supply. Remember that the Bitcoin price has not still reached the historical maximum adjusted for inflation.

SolvBTC Babylon Staking & Why It Is Important

Babylon is the largest restaking protocol for $BTC. The project is not launched yet but invited users can stake their $BTC on the platform and now on Solv as well. However, with Solv users can use their LRT (from BTC) on other protocols and earn yields on multiple chains while earning Babylon points.

Symbiotic Finance: a New Challenge for Eigenlayer

We all knew about EigenLayer, the first restaking protocol that brought a new wave of hype to DeFi and became the second-largest protocol by TVL. But huge cash always attracts new players. Launching less than a week ago, Symbiotic has already reached its staking capacity. What is so unique in this project and why are investors so bullish?

Symbiotic stands out with its flexible, modular, and permissionless design, offering enhanced control and flexibility. It supports multiple assets, allowing direct deposits of any ERC-20 token, including Lido’s stETH and cbETH, which makes it more adaptable than Eigenlayer, which mainly supports ETH and its derivatives.

Networks that use Symbiotic can choose their collateral assets, node operators, rewards, and slashing mechanisms, providing tailored security settings to meet specific users’s needs.

Symbiotic’s core contracts are non-upgradeable, like Uniswap, which minimizes governance risks and failure points. The platform can continue to function independently of the team’s presence. DePINs Markets

Messari recently reported that the DePIN sector's market potential is about $2.2 trillion, with projections to reach $3.5 trillion by 2028. Firstly, your staked ETH (or LRT) supports side projects in enhancing their security through backed assets. You can’t redeem or transfer these assets, but EigenLayer can slash them if the protocol violates the rules. This occurrence won't result in asset loss but will boost earnings.

What can be done?

  • Choose secure holders of your tokens!

  • Prioritize those with proven track records, high TVL, public recognition, or personal assurance.

  • Create a checklist focusing on TVL across networks, Eigenlayer and AVSs’ recognition, SOC certificates, and past cases of unprofessional behavior resulting in fund loss before selecting Operators. For instance, Renzo provides a specific list of Operators it invests in so you can check which ones can be trusted and which cannot.

Secondly, invest only in trusted LRT providers. Pay attention to their operators and how they support their peg. Companies like Renzo or KelpDAO should have large liquidity pools across different networks to avoid a possible depeg of LRT in case people decide to redeem their tokens. Remember their smart contracts and audits made by independent agencies. Contracts should have no critical or serious vulnerabilities.

zkSync and Polyhedra Game of Thrones Tokens

The first battle over a token name emerged out of nowhere. Last week, zkSync announced that their token would have the ticker $ZK, which Polyhedra already own.

Matter Labs (zkSync) has filed trademark applications in 9 countries, claiming that ZK is the exclusive firm’s intellectual property. Co-founders of Polygon, Polyhedra, StarkWare, and others have sent a public letter criticizing this decision. Nonetheless, Polyhedra has announced they are changing the token's name to $ZKJ.

Both networks are competitors in the field of zero-knowledge technology, which may explain zkSync's aggressive attitude towards Polyhedra. However, previous projects have never clashed over tickers. How can it affect crypto projects? Most likely, more protocols will take steps toward better legal security. All court cases consume significant time and financial resources for the companies involved. Ultimately, unsecured projects may become entangled in legal proceedings and lose substantial sums of money just because their ticker was not registered.

This situation harmed Polyhedra's $ZK investors, with the token declining by 20% following the news. It demonstrated that an aggressor could act with impunity, potentially paving the way for similar actions by other projects. While we aspire to a friendly crypto community, ultimately, business is business.

Karak Continues Rising

Karak is the most vivid EigenLayer’s competitor which has recently reached $850 million TVL. Unlike EigenLayer, Karak accepts stablecoins, wBTC, Pendle Principle Tokens (PT), and even LRT like ezETH or weETH. Read more about the protocol here.

Recently, Karak added support of USDe and during this week people got an opportunity to stake sUSDe and get Karak points upon their 35% APR.

Pendle has incorporated Karak-staked derivatives into its platform. Users can now earn 64% on their Karak staked eETH and 40% on USDe. US Hot Crypto Politics

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has recently approved ETH ETFs which caused a boom in crypto-twitter and other social media. The community excitement even brought down the SEC's website for a while.

The ETH price has not spiked as expected, and there are several reasons for this. The ETH ETF has not yet been launched and may not be for several weeks. Although the SEC has approved a form for ETH ETFs, the regulatory process will take time. Therefore, no money has been invested yet, and the real impact on the ETH price has not been reflected. Moreover, the case of BTC ETFs shows that the price does not rise significantly even after trading begins. The most likely scenario is that the ETH price will gradually increase as more investors enter the crypto market.

The United States House of Representatives voted for the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act (FIT21). The act defines blockchain, and digital assets and introduces rules for citizens' interaction with them. Moreover, FIT21 introduces stringent consumer protection measures, including the segregation of customer funds, mandated lock-up periods for token insiders to curb speculative practices, limitations on annual sales volumes, and comprehensive disclosure requirements.

Over the past several years, the SEC has been particularly conservative regarding large crypto players, scrutinizing Coinbase, Binance, and Ripple. This new law is likely to decrease tensions in American crypto politics and build a more transparent legal sphere for all web3-projects.

Ethena Yields Go Wild

Ethena is an emitter of USDe, the yield bearing stabletoken that allows investors to get more than 20% APR. This is the first mass stable coin solution not tied to USD by collateral. Ethena uses the deposited dollars by buying ETH/wstETH and hedging them with perpetual contracts. The yield comes from staking and funding fees from futures. But, why does it reach >30%? ETH staking does not exceed 4% while funding rate fluctuates around 11% APR.

Ethena is running the airdrop program and offers an additional boost program for USDe liquidity providers. Therefore, the current APR also includes the yield from the upcoming airdrop. Pendle fixed yields on USDe and sUSDe are >30% and >40% respectively.

The $ENA token plays a crucial role in Ethena governance. By locking the token, users get the maximum 30x airdrop boost, contributing to the token's success. This feature has enabled the token to achieve the >80% fixed APR on Pendle. Additionally, the token can be hedged on popular exchanges, eliminating directional risk for this strategy. Few other industries offer such lucrative and stable returns!

Airdrops Are Shrinking

Renzo, LayerZero, Taiko…these are just a few big names that have recently announced or airdropped tokens. A common issue is that many in the community are dissatisfied with the amounts received. While complaints are common after any airdrop, current data proves that this is not just hot air.

Previously, protocols allocated around 15-30% of tokens to the community, but this has decreased to about 10-12%, often divided into portions. The absolute value in dollars has also declined in 2023, and this trend appears to be continuing.

Why is this happening? There are a few reasons. First, companies have realized that airdrops have become a large "business" involving wallet farms and professional software. Crypto protocols aren’t interested in sharing money with "ghosts" who stop participating in the project's ecosystem after receiving the airdrop. Thus, protocols are banning those wallets from participation and simultaneously decreasing the amount of money they allocate. LayerZero is undoubtedly the top sybil-identifier in the current market, striving to minimize the number of fake users as much as possible.

Second, protocols focus on investors. As the crypto market matures, the role of investors becomes more prominent, relegating the community to a secondary position. Large funds monopolize the market, demanding larger allocations to ensure profitability even if the token scams or significantly loses its value. This explains the growing investor share in tokenomics.

Finally, the business models of crypto projects have become more sophisticated and geared towards sustained growth. Protocols are adopting “season” models, dividing tokens into baskets, extending the unlocking periods, and making staking mechanics more favorable. Many tokens are now reserved for reward incentives planned for 2-3 years after the initial airdrops. Consequently, the share of tokens dedicated to airdrops has significantly decreased.

Should the crypto community worry about this trend? Probably not. If you are an investor willing to actively participate in the projects, they have incentives to reward you. This is one of the main reasons why point systems have become so popular: they make it easier to identify the real contributions a person has made to a protocol.

Ethereum Gas Fees Have Dropped by 94%

According to the data on Ethereum gas fees, the average daily cost in USD for doing transactions has declined by >90% from the price peaks in March 2024. Current transaction fees fluctuate around $1.60, resembling the fees of L2 protocols before the Dencun update.

The last time values hit such a low threshold was in October 2023. However, that period didn’t last long, and currently, low fees seem to become a trend. The question is: why has it happened? Here are possible reasons.

Reason #1: Switch to L2-solution

Many traders and liquidity providers are switching to L2 rollups on Ethereum to harvest airdrops and participate in initiatives. The costs of creating one's own blockchain on Ethereum have significantly lowered thanks to technological innovations and such projects as OP Stack and Arbitrum Orbit.

These tools help developers to deploy protocols faster, speeding up the overall creation of new solutions. Alongside the general rise of crypto projects and the current bullish crypto market, new protocols like Mode, Blast, and Linea are encouraging investors to provide liquidity and trade on their platforms by sharing part of the revenue through airdrops.

This inspires people to bridge their assets and participate in campaigns outside the Ethereum mainnet. As a result, Ethereum's activity decreases, ending up with lower gas fees.

Reason #2: Decrease in Speculative Activity

People are moving from Ethereum to other blockchains to trade. Even current low fees can’t compete with those L2 solutions and blockchains like Solana, Sui, and Aptos offer. Their transactions cost less than $0.01.

No wonder, daily traders choose cheaper solutions. That leads to a decrease in trading volume on Ethereum. DefiLlama’s data shows that Ethereum's trading volume has almost halved over the last several months. Such tendencies can be a precondition for a return when a bearish phase. ETH's price stays relatively stable, avoiding dramatic falls, which is a positive sign.

Reason #3: Whales Have Changed the Strategy

Many large wallets are either taking profits or simply decreasing their on-chain activity. Some wallets find the current market stage optimal for selling their assets and cashing out expecting a traditional summertime stagnation of crypto.

In other cases, investors just withdraw their assets. Since summer is a holiday season, some large investors take part of their profits from funds for personal usage.

BTC Is on Its Way Up

It seems Bitcoin is only in the middle of its bullish cycle. Its market cap is currently growing faster than its realized cap, a pattern that has typically lasted around two years in previous market cycles.

If the trade remains, the current phase will last until April 2025. It means that we have plenty of time to invest in emerging projects and, what’s more important, the current protocols and chains have enough time to grow before the next winter.

Here Comes $EIGEN

EigenLayer finally launched an airdrop, distributing 15% of the total supply of $EIGEN tokens across multiple seasons.

Season 1 Phase 1 is currently underway, with 6.05% of the total supply issued to users who restaked $ETH or LSTs on EigenLayer before March 15, 2024. Phase 2 is scheduled to commence in mid-June, distributing the remaining 0.70% of the Season 1 airdrop.

The claimed tokens are non-transferable but will be unlocked by September 30th, 2024.

EigenLayer has revised its final airdrop allocations twice in response to community feedback, but this latest version appears to be the definitive one.

EigenLayer will distribute 100 $EIGEN to all users who engaged with the protocol before April 29th. Additionally, users can delegate $EIGEN to an EigenDA operator and get extra rewards in the future.

Puffer Is Launching Mainnet

Puffer Finance mainnet has been launched this Wednesday, coinciding with the end of the 5x Puffer points event. Nonetheless, a promotional period continues: puffer decided to distribute 1000 points per 100 $EIGEN staked on the EigenLayer website.

Moreover, Puffer started the conversion of stETH tokens to ETH in order to decrease dependence on a single dominant staker. Users do not need to take any action; all is handled by the Puffer team.

Lisk Airdrop

Along with the migration to the new L2, Lisk welcomes the arrival of its airdrop season. Over the upcoming months, a succession of airdrops will be unveiled, crafted to ignite engagement and propel momentum forward. A substantial allocation of 15 million LSK has been allocated for these initiatives. To become eligible for the airdrop, you must have a balance of at least 50 LSK during the transition, slated for May 21st.

Lisk is a blockchain platform that enables developers to build decentralized applications using JavaScript. The protocol is built on Optimism Stack providing full compatibility with other EVM products.

USD Stablecoin with 25% APY

Hermetica announced USDh tokens backed by BTC and BTC perpetual futures. The token is going to be native for Bitcoin L1 and L2 nets. The partners already include Runes protocol and Stacks.

The delta-neutral token concept isn’t new. Projects like Ethena have previously introduced synthetic dollars using similar operational mechanisms, such as USDe. The main point is that nobody boasted an APR as significant as what is typically seen, ranging around 10-15%.

Typically, such tokens encounter de-pegging issues stemming from infrastructural inadequacies. There are some doubts regarding the team's choice of exchange for derivative purchases and the mechanics behind emissions. Layer3 Snapshot Is TakenLayer3 introduced the $L3 token and confirmed a snapshot taken on May 10th. $L3 is planned to launch in early summer. A total supply will be 300 million $L3, with 51% allocated to the community and 5% for the first Airdrop. Detailed tokenomics will be introduced in June.

Memcoin’s Lightning Fast Week

The top 50 memcoins have collectively increased their market capitalization by +10% over the past week. Almost all of the memcoins are on BSC and Base networks to provide an easy minting process.

Mode Network Announced $MODE Token

Mode, a Layer-2 chain operating on Ethereum, has initiated an airdrop targeting all users who contributed liquidity to the chain. A snapshot was taken on May 5th. Subsequently, on May 7th, the top 2000 wallets, ranked by points, are set to receive 50% of the allocated $MODE tokens.

The remaining tokens will be available for claim after 90 days from the date of the initial airdrop. The conditions really narrowed down the number of people who could get the token but there is an opportunity to replay.

Mode has also unveiled the second round of airdrops, offering an opportunity for users who missed out on the first distribution. Both airdrops are expected to distribute a similar quantity of tokens, prompting eager participants to act swiftly! Queit Friend.tech Airdrop

Friend.tech discreetly airdropped the $FRIEND token on May 3rd, following their earlier announcement on X that an airdrop would be launched on April 27th. To secure the tokens, users must join a Club and follow a minimum of 10 users on FriendTech. As trading commenced, the token's price stabilized at $1.7 reaching $168 at the peak.

Much Calmer LayerZero Airdrop

On May 2nd, LayerZero posted on X that they made the first snapshot, and… that’s almost it. The protocol pointed out that to protect their users’ interest, they won’t issue tokens to Sybil farmers.

If a user hacks the protocol, they will be blacklisted and get nothing. This is the first time when the protocol has used such mechanics to prevent hacks. As for other airdrop details, they are a mystery.

Scroll Has Launched Their Loyalty Program

The L2 project is launching its Scroll Sessions point system, which is very similar to the Linea crypto points campaign. Curve Founder’s $156M Liquidation Nightmare for

The Curve founder's credit positions on various platforms have entered the danger zone.

Mikhail Egorov pledged a total of 371 million CRV (approximately $156 million) through 5 addresses on 6 lending platforms to borrow $92.54 million, BUT since the price of CRV dropped to $0.42, his lending positions on various platforms have now entered a dangerous territory zone.

The multi-item lending ratio has dropped to ~1.1 (meaning if the CRV price continues to fall 10% without replenishment or redemption, liquidation will begin).

Last August, to avoid liquidation caused by falling CRV prices, Mikhail sold 159.4 million CRV in over-the-counter (OTC) transactions to 33 investors/institutions in exchange for $63.76 million to repay the loan. Sale price 0.4$.

New Linea Campaign & TGE Predictions

Linea has introduced Linea Voyage Program: The Surge and new points LXP-L:

The main goal is to rock the ecosystem's TVL.

The Surge starts in April right after Linea Park, and will last for 6 months till the blockchain reaches $3B in terms of TVL. Now it’s around $440M.

The project will launch a new SBT token LXP-L that will be issued for a current wallet balance and provide liquidity. A user could continue gaining LXP but as we know tokens for liquidity are way more valuable.

It also mentioned that Linea Surge will bring the last missing piece to their ecosystem. If the campaign runs till October, then the token may be issued at the end of fall or the beginning of winter.

Staking FXS is not that profitable yet, numbers are quite small. If you stake through Frax Finance directly, you get about 1% per year, and about 8% when using Convex Finance.

Until the 100% level is reached, all ecosystem profits go for increasing collateral. After reaching the 100% threshold, all Frax Finance profits will go to $FXS token stakers.

By the way, guys have published the first part of their roadmap ‘Singularity’:

Project scaling plans include creating 23 levels of L3 within a year. In addition to the four tokens in the ecosystem - FXS, FRAX, sFRAX, and frxETH - there will be launched several assets like rxNEAR, frxTIA, and frxMETIS. All coins will run on the Fraxtal network.

As for the staking interest, the project will come back to the sharing commissions mechanism. Half of which will go to maintaining $FXS liquidity and the second half to $FXS stakers.

The changes to tokenomics may provide 100% support for the FRAX stablecoin, as well as the “most competitive” staking returns in the industry. As a result, the main final beneficiaries in the system should be the FXS holders. We can’t wait for juicy yields on $FXS and $cvxFXS.
