The Great Farcaster Migration & Rounds

This year Nouns embraced Farcaster, but apart from just migration, Nouns also contributed to its growth by funding the creation of 3 new Farcaster clients (unfortunately, only nounspace is still operational today), turning /nouns into one of the largest channels AND rewarding casters via Rounds.wtf!

Rounds.wtf is a great piece of tech made by seneca (and others) that makes it extremely easy to reward casters. It was born from the ashes of Prop House (which we've had to say goodbye to this year) and it's already helped distribute over 1 MILLION dollars in rewards!

Not only did the community get together on Farcaster, this year people also gathered in LA to attend the Nouns Fest at The United Theater on Broadway! The event showcased over 50 animated short films (after receiving over 400 submissions) and received positive coverage from Animation Magazine, OpenSea and more. Benjamin Latsko hosted the Nouns Town event with lots of activities in the days leading up to, and after the Nouns Fest. These included live painting and other creative workshops, live concerts, the premiers of Nogglers - Mavericks of Time, new episode of The Rise of Blus, Sunny in Nicaragua, Benbodhi Decoded and a visit to Bob Burnquist's Dreamland (there's a 4h long stream recording from Dreamland on YouTube)!

Nouns School in Uganda

Nouns funded the transformation of Ndurumo Primary School in Kiyanga, Uganda into a modern Nounish School. Even thought the construction got a little delayed, the pictures and videos Davin shared look great!

Great news for privacy - US Treasury's actions against Tornado Cash have been deemed unlawful by the court! Nouns donated 40 ETH (Prop 493 & 502) towards Tornado devs' legal defense back in January of this year and thus played a small part in this big victory.

WNX and NeroOne opened up an amazing IRL hub in Kuala Lumpur as part of their Nouns Beyond Screens project & they produced tons of amazing stuff both digital and physical!

Not only did Nouns Esports sign multiple full teams, a #1 Super Smash Bros player Cody and streamers, it also attracted Launders, one of the most famous Counter-Strike casters (who recently ran a Nouns-sponsored event in Toronto) and partnered with brands such as Matcha.xyz and Adidas!

Quack, Lola & The Rise of Blus

One of the biggest success stories in Nouns this year has definitely been the rocket rise of Quack & Lola! Created by Atrium, these cute ducklings won the hearts of millions worldwide. Their Instagram account currently has over 2 million followers, and their most popular short received over 9 million likes! They collaborated with multiple famous brands, such as Duolingo, Genshin Impact, and Erene, the creator of Book of Nouns!

As if that wasn't enough from The Atrium, they also released new episodes of The Rise of Blus this year (EP3 live on Youtube, EP4 still behind an NFT paywall) and earned a few awards like the Best Series award at the 17th Animator International Short Film Competition! Watch all the episodes here.

We've seen two tokens emerge around Nouns:

• $nouns directly tied to Nouns NFTs (with the option to exchange a Noun for 1 million tokens)

Nouns Esports restructured quite a bit recently and they are asking Nouns for more support and funding throughout 2025. In the upcoming year, they are focusing more closely on hosting their own Smash Bros events (dropped Dota and CS pro teams) and bridging the URL <-> IRL world via Nouns.GG (utilizing Rounds and more!).

Path to making $nouns useful and scalable: 1. Get it audited 2. Exclude $nouns’ Noun balance from totalAdjustedSupply (NounsDAOFork lib upgrade + NounsDAOLogicV4 upgrade to consume new lib) 3. Deposit some treasury Nouns (top N ID’s) 4. LP some of the $nouns, and distribute others as builder rewards Benefits: * $nouns won’t break governance quorum * More LP means less slippage, making it more feasible to use $nouns as a medium of exchange within the Noun ecosystem * Fractional treasury Noun distribution for builders rather then giving full Noun’s, which are mostly not being used (and themselves, hurting quorum) Prop 536 failed largely due to regulatory uncertainty and liability, but DUNA might solve this? If we decided on using client incentives, we should at least stay consistent with it. The only stat that really matters here is whether anyone is actually using the client, and that comes from onchain client incentive records, which I don’t see mentioned in this proposal. If no one’s using Nouns Terminal, what’s the point of funding it further? And if they are using it enough, aren’t the current rewards doing the job? If they’re not, shouldn’t we be looking to increase the incentives instead of just reverting back? We put nearly a million into Verbs this year, and as far as I know, the only thing they’ve fully delivered is client incentives, which, if this is the outcome, seem pointless. https://warpcast.com/nekofar.eth/0x9a663c2e

Nouns Shelter

At the end of October, the team organized an IRL event in China in collaboration with a local EV brand and university students, where they distributed a ton of cat food and 100 shelters! Apart from that, they also helped animals in Vietnam affected by recents floods. Full update here.

A proper referendum would have at least half of the eligible voters participating, right? We’ve got over 700 eligible votes, yet less than 100 are active, and even at peak, we barely hit 200. Has there been a broad, official announcement to the DAO members or a real call to action from the foundation? Are the objectives clear with the information provided? new funding meta just dropped 👀 i’m very curious to see how this evolves. at a high level i think it’s much needed and very differentiated from the prop by prop yes/no majority voting since that’s governance energy intensive and isn’t a continuous stream of funding. with flows we can fund non consensus ideas (some money will start to be streamed to things only a minority is interested) and it can be for lower amount continuous funding needed things. i think this is good for plurality in nouns and also just lowering barrier to entry as a builder. it’s a pretty intricate thing so curious to see how it works in nouns and what new things get funded through this 🙌 https://warpcast.com/rocketman/0xf99af83a

We support subcultures Nounstown, and especially the day at secret walls, made that very explicit to me. But it took me gushing over charlixcx, pc music, dark souls, dreamhack, magic the gathering and more over a coffee w 40 to drive home the point. (Almost) everything we do is rooted in subcultures w/o easy access to capital. It gives us a clear edge and reason to exist. Aklo secured a second place at a major Smash tournament!

On Sunday, I made a huge lower bracket run and ended up getting 2nd place at a major Smash Melee tournament! It feels to insane to me because just three weeks ago I placed 3rd at a different tourney, which marked my best major placing at the time. It hasn’t even been a month and I’ve already surpassed that! I find it somewhat poetic that my best placing ever also marks my two year anniversary of joining Nouns. I honestly couldn’t believe that when I read it at first. How quickly time has passed, wow. Getting a bit emotional just thinking about it. As Sasquatch said, I have not only grown as a competitor, but as a person as well. As stated in the previous issue, the Nouns Foundation said it is exploring a new legal structure for the DAO - a DUNA (Decentralized Unincorporated Nonprofit Association) and the community seems to be torn here with some praising the proposed transition and others voicing negative opinions (mostly focused on KYC). You can (try to) follow the discourse in the /nouns-duna channel on Warpcast or listen to a recording of the recent Nouncil call with 4156 and wag (just fyi, it's pretty long, around 2 hours).

The TI Dream is Over

Nouns Dota team made huge waves right from the start of The International after they obliterated last year's champions Team Spirit 2-0 in front of over 600.000 live viewers!

Unfortunately, it only got harder after the win against Spirit, as Nouns lost the match against last year's runner-up GG, and ended up descending to the lower bracket where the dream got crushed by yet another loss against BetBoom. This put the team into the "9th-12th" spot in the final placement - still an amazing outcome for an underdog!

You can support the project by buying one of the TI inspired t-shirts.

While in Copenhagen, Nouns Esports collaborated with FANGST and produced an Extra Nounish Trout (taste test by players here).

TNS also recently managed to secure funding for the next 6 months after smashing the goals of their previous prop and extending the work (thanks to a great treasury management and securing additional revenue) from the promised 6 months to 10 months!
(Btw they recently hosted the 800th Noun O'Clock live in a row! 800!!!!! Ain't that crazy?!)

We've seen the role of dynamic quorum rise in the past weeks (proposal defeated by failing to meet quorum as opposed to having a majority "against" votes) as krel rightly pointed out! Personally I'm excited to see how this impacts governance. To me, it seems to be a sort of extension of the "filter" happening with proposal candidates.

• before, an idea needed to excite a few nouners to get promoted into an onchain prop, which was enough to "force" other nouners to make a stance

• now merely getting onchain is not enough and props need to be more exciting to secure a big enough attandence to meet quorum

Spicy Saturdays: Hot Take …. Burn The Treasury Nouns 🔥 I’m considering putting in a proposal for this, idea would be there would be a set date, say Halloween when the burn would take place…. So everyone can get their swaps in ahead of time. Rationale: giving out Nouns dilutes the governance of active participants…. && historically the % of Nouns given out that are left unused or delegated is larger than those given out that do participate. The dilution of governance was also something I mentioned in Nouncil, thankfully we passed a vote to raise voting participation rate to double the previous metric. I know it’s a spicy topic, but would love to hear everyone’s thoughts…. To burn or not to burn, that is the question. 🤔

Revenue back to purchase nouns is a good intention, Personal preference would to see either the % returned in single bid. Even if that meant noun 1453 was purchased for 10.7e a 80% increase on noun 1452. Thus keep your voting block in parity to the Dao, and not just accumlating a controlling voting block with recycling Dao funded revenue. Maybe ensuring your Dao funded project had the appropriate nouns required to facilitate sponsoring props on chain. At a maximum. I wouldn't be excited seeing a project that became an extremely profitable venture turn into the controlling voting block because they signalled we will return x amount to purchasing nouns. @oshi

Great update from Josh providing an overview of the project he has been working on for over 2 years.

• Both of the vans (Nouns Vision Van and Mobile Vision Clinic) are being built, with an expected delivery around mid 2025. These vehicles are expected to screen and treat over 75,000 patients and will remain in service for many years to come.

• While the custom vehicles are being built, Sight For All United has completed over 26,000 screenings and provided more than 6,000 kids with exams and glasses using the Nouns Vision Van 1.0!

There was some discussion and criticism of the /nouns-retro rounds earlier today by my friend @peterpandam and others, with the main allegation being that the rounds have been full of builders simply executing their proposals and thus "double-dipping." Setting aside the fact that there are currently no active propdate rounds and there was no rule against active builders posting updates there, I just really didn't think that was a fair portrayal of how the rounds have been going (at least since I volunteered to help @seneca moderate them a couple months ago and have therefore been paying closer attention.) For my own sanity, I quickly went through the top 15 paid casts from each of the previous 2 rounds and did a little Saturday night spreadsheet warrior-ing to find that of these 30 retro rewards... Nouns DAO life is crazy. You can absolutely crush and do exactly what they ask and then come back and there is an entirely different sentiment. The DAO will ask for something that can normally take years to achieve to be done quickly, balking at the time and cost of greatness, and then second guess the long term strategy and ask to revert to previous strategies that they asked to pivot away from. They will ask proposers to constantly prove themselves while moving the goal posts and questioning everything, including their motives in public square. People with varying levels of experience and knowledge offer insight and critique on fields they don’t deeply know. Thank you to everyone who participates and experiments here.
