There are currently 14 full time employees working for Octav, primarily engineers, Baril said, adding that the machine learning platform looks to use some of the fresh capital to expand the marketing and sales team.

Seamless Integration of Crypto Invoices

Octav's transaction history page is where accountants and CFOs go to see all their crypto transaction history. Each transaction contains a single or multiple assets flowing in or out and specifies the protocol, transaction type, and profit and loss. For transactions done with Request Finance, the interface is enriched with more data as any invoices associated with that transaction are directly embedded on Octav.

You'll notice that even if there are multiple invoices associated with one transaction, all invoices are included on Octav too.

To connect the two applications, simply navigate to the 'Account' tab in your Octav dashboard and scroll down to 'Integrations.'

45k $OP growth grant secured

We are very excited to announce that we received a $45k OP growth grant from the Optimism Governance Council to help label and reconcile transactions on Optimism. The entire grant (worth $60,000 USD), will be distributed to the Octav community as a reward for interacting with the Optimism network and then validating their transactions on Octav.

Although The Brain has made a lot of progress in building its knowledge base of Optimism transactions from inputs from the team, this grant will help by bringing in potentially thousands of new users to help validate transactions. The goal is to reach a knowledge ratio of 80%, meaning that 80% of all protocols and transactions on Optimism are known in Octav’s Brain by the end of the campaign.

We will be rewarding not only the top validators every month but also randomly selecting validators who validated a minimum number of transactions (TBC) to ensure fairness and that anyone with any level of DeFi experience can participate. The exact details of the distribution quantity and timeline of the campaign will be announced in the coming weeks.

Octav’s validation process enables the community to actively participate in updating and refining the database. If a user interacts with a protocol address that is not recognized by Octav, they can inform the system about the protocol and the function they used. This information is then validated, and once approved, it is integrated into Octav’s “Brain,” the learning algorithm that powers the platform.

The beauty of this process lies in its universality. Once a transaction is validated for a specific user, Octav learns from it and applies this newfound knowledge to any other address that interacts with the same protocol. How to validate transaction on Octav

1. Sign in and connect your wallet to Octav

2. Head over to the “Transactions” tab and filter your transactions status by “to be reviewed”

3. Now all your transactions should have a red icon, meaning they need to be validated.

4. Click on any transaction and verify that the recommendation Octav has given matches the actual transaction you made with that wallet or protocol.

   1. If it matches perfectly, hit “Validate”

   2. If not, you can update the metrics to help Octav train its Brain. Metrics you can update:

• transaction type

• protocol

• asset label (in and out)

• asset quantity

• asset price

As you can see, you have the flexibility to edit almost anything for all your on-chain transactions. If you want to go back to the original value after editing a field, click on ‘Fetch original suggestion’ and your transaction will reset.

After you have made all the required changes, on the ‘Transaction’ tab, you’ll see the number of transactions edited since the last sync. Click the ‘recalculate transactions’ button to ensure your portfolio reflects the latest changes and stays up-to-date. This feature saves you time by updating all your transactions at once.

FAQ’s Validating transactions

Q: What if I interacted with a protocol that is not in your protocol list?

• If you interact with a protocol that says “Unknown” first check if it’s in our list. If it isn’t then let us know in our Discord and we will add the protocol.

Q: Why does the token price say $0.00?

• We pull some of our data directly from blockchain explorers, therefore if the token price on the data source is 0, it will be 0 on Octav too. We are working on a fix for this by increasing our data sources.

Q: Why do I need to validate my transactions?

• Validating transactions helps train Octav’s brain, not only so that you wont need to validate future transactions with the same protocol but also for the entire community who interacted with that protocol.

Q: Can I validate all my transactions at once?

• You can all validate all transactions for a specific protocol at once by clicking “recalculate transactions” after you validated one transaction.

Q: I made a mistake in my validation, how can I undo it?

• You can click on “fetch original suggestion” to revert your validation and then start again.

Octav offers you the ability to see your cost basis as well as your profit and loss. On your dashboard, you are able to see your entire transaction history without any restrictions. The Octav algorithm provides suggestions of how your transactions should be categorized, but you are free to edit the categorization as you see fit (See “Transaction Editing Feature” section below). As more people utilize Octav, the algorithm will learn to provide more accurate suggestions for all transaction types.

A great candidate for your browser’s homepage, the Dashboard provides a holistic view of your DeFi portfolio, and tracks the following KPIs:

• Net worth

• Total cost basis

Everything in Octav revolves around transactions. To put it simply, Octav is deciphering the transaction data provided by the blockchain, which means that 100% of your transactions will be captured by Octav and gathered in the Transactions section.

As just seen, you can edit pretty much any transaction info. 😎

• If you see the red magnifying glass icon, it means that Octav is interpreting this transaction to the best of its knowledge but it needs your input. Simply click on it to edit and/or validate this specific transaction.

• If you see the green check mark, everything is good! Octav was able to properly interpret, and categorize your transaction. No further action is required!

Transaction editing feature

Most importantly, Octav's main goal is to preserve your anonymity while you’re investing in DeFi. Every edit you make to price-related information is for your eyes only and it is impossible for other users to see your private inputs (e.g. asset price).

Furthermore, you can edit pretty much any transaction info including, but not limited to, transaction type, asset/token label, asset quantity and price, protocol, fees, and fiat fees. Ultimately, this is where the real magic of Octav occurs! Since Octav’s algorithm can receive input from its community, everyone can contribute to improve Octav’s algorithm.

There are two ways to contribute:

1. Simply by editing your transaction. Our algorithm will refine its suggestion for other users as well as your future transactions.

2. Open PRs in our public repository. During the bootstrapping phase, Octav needs a little more hands-on input. We’ve opened a public repository where any technical person can suggest a pull request.

Thanks to Octav’s edit function, you’ll have no more labeling issues. Your cost basis and P&L will reflect your actuals.

Finally, it will be possible to add manual entries to reflect external information which is not on the blockchain. This feature is coming soon!

Close positions feature

Interact with main EVM chains and protocols to close your open positions without having to go on a specific DApp (Octav started with EVM chains with the goal of integrating every chains).

The crypto ecosystem lacks proper monitoring tools to track all our DeFi investments. Once our trusty spreadsheets became too unwieldy to maintain, we went looking for better tools, but none of the solutions we looked at fit the bill. A few common failings we encountered were:

3. What is the goal of the closed Beta?

We are building the backbone of Octav: a powerful database that will provide the best and most accurate portfolio information in the industry. To do so, we have created an evolving, user-curated database inspired by the open and creative spirit of the crypto ecosystem. But this is just the beginning and we are fully aware that the algorithm is not yet fine tuned. That's why we need your help. The more input we give to Octav, the better it works.
