There was a time when people used to write letters to their loved ones. A piece of paper, a pen, and an envelope; combinedly was the medium for sharing information. Through the ink, we used to cover all our emotions and expected a similar return from the person we sent it to.

Before the mid-20th century, there were only a few technologies through which people could communicate from a far distance. There were only wire-based technologies like telephone and fax. Only the privileged members of society could use those. For the rest, it was all paper and a pen.

During that period, social interactions were only limited to a locality where people of nearby households often met each other in person. Friends were only made in the schools or playgrounds. Letters and Telephone calls took an infinite amount of time to make two-person talk. That was the whole scenario of socialization in those days.

Then comes the Internet. Technology took a massive jump with this revolutionary invention. Computer devices could be linked with each other using telephone-based networks, and information could be passed-visualized and stored. In the beginning, this was only used for military and humanitarian purposes. Eventually, it evolved and opened for mass-level usage.

Web 1.0 - The Zero Social Web

The early internet era was composed of websites containing many web pages hyperlinked with each other. These webpages were simply static read-only visuals where a user could only see the information. It was also called Content Delivery Network (CDN), where companies used to showcase their business information or a website owner could publish news of their choice. Users had no other ability to interact with the websites except for viewing the pages. This era of the World Wide Web is called Web 1.0. In this era, users were only the consumers of informative content, nothing more than that. No social activities could be performed on the Internet via Web 1.0

Web 2.0 - The Social Web

At the beginning of the 21st century, it was realized that the read-only existence of websites could not facilitate businesses or website owners with that much information about their user base. As a result, we entered a new web era where user's participatory culture was vastly emphasized. We redeveloped websites and Applications with the purpose of two-way communication. It provided the users the ability to sign up as individual website visitors and contribute their side of information to the websites. User-generated content like texts, photos, and comments was allowed to integrate with the websites. This phenomenon revolutionized socialization ability. All the users could now interact with each other via social web platforms. This second generation of websites is called Web 2.0 or the Social Web.

In 2004, a website called Facebook was launched as a social media website. It focused on providing free web services to any internet user to have an online identity and share their life events online. Connecting with friends and family who had their accounts became effortless. There were other similar web platforms, but only Facebook could show one-sided domination in the market. In 2006, another social media platform, Twitter, was launched with a different online socialization method than Facebook. In the beginning, Twitter was not that successful, but eventually, it gained an enormous user base.

Twitter & Facebook have been redefining the social media concept with billions of users. But countless other social platforms provide single-focused services like event-organizing, dating, photos/video sharing, fundraising, etc. But all these social platforms run on a typical centralized control policy. As a result, there are so many setbacks that are arising for users while using these social platforms. Let's discuss some of them-

Data Privacy- On web2.0 social platforms, users share personal and social information. The activity of any user produces data for the platforms they use for targeted advertising. No matter the personality matrix of any user, he/she must see advertisements on their feed based on demographic angles.

**Monopoly -**So many new apps and networks have flooded our daily life that it is nearly impossible to escape social media. But there is a very challenging part of social media: the Big Tech Monopoly. Facebook-Twitter & Google holds the square share of all the social media business. With billions of users, they can easily manipulate the dynamics. The big players can easily minimalize any innovative measure by a minor player in the market via adopting an entirely copied feature to their platforms backed by billions of users. That makes the competition unfair.

Content Visibility- It is never the users who decide what they will be seeing after loading their social media feed. In disguise called "Suggestions" or "Recommendations," social platforms show any trending content or just getting promoted in a section of users. Users rarely understand the Blackbox algorithm these social platforms integrate to promote content.

Censorship- It is said, "There are always two sides to every story." Freedom of speech is regarded as the ultimate practice of human expression. Freethinkers, Social Activists have always spoken against injustice. Voice for the voiceless; is the only way to break the chain of oppression. But sometimes censorship becomes an obstacle to expressing true feelings.

Web 3.0 Social- The New Era

The latest version of Internet technology leverages AI (Artificial Intelligence), Machine Learning, & blockchain to achieve real-world human communication. This third generation of the Internet is called Web3.0. It interconnects data decentralized to provide a faster and more personalized user experience.

We have already discussed the major challenges users face while using web2.0 social platforms. As a result, the necessity of decentralized social media platforms is the time's call. And we can only do this by adopting web3.0 technologies.

Blockchain integration allows people to own their content and profile materials without any security concerns. It is not mandatory to equalize your personal and online identity. But at the same time, you can have sole ownership of any posts or relationships in a single timeframe. Any user with a decentralized identity can fully control the content visibility in his/her feed and make choices of advertisements. Where in web2 social platforms, online society is imposed on users, in web3 social networks, it can be composed.

Web3 Social Platforms also provide full-fledged support to content owners via genomics. Users who create value for the platform by creating high-quality content and moderating a thriving community are rewarded with crypto-based tokens that can rectify their performance and become strong community builders. SBT (Soulbound tokens) is a non-transferable, publicly-verifiable digital currency that can act as a type of CV for web3 users. This incentive model eradicates any chance of unfair monetization.

A few web3 social platforms have already been launched, gaining users daily. Oi! Network emerges as a gateway to onboard the next one million users into Web3.

Why Oi! Network?

Oi! Network provides a complete web3 solution; packaged in an easy-to-use app for Web3 social task creation & management. It provides proof and monetization of influence with verification.

Any content owners can create social task reward pools on their supported social media in a permissionless way. These tasks are automatically added into a Task Feed for Networkers to interact with. All tasks created will be automatically added to the Task Feed – where users can browse all tasks as in legacy social platforms. In Oi! Network, you can quantify and mint your web2 social influence value into SBTs. You can also be a networker and monetize your influence with a non-linear incentive mechanism.

Key Features of Oi! Network-

Proof of Influence – You can capitalize on your off-chain social influence on this platform. It means you can mint your acquired web2 social impact to your web3 DID. Based on that, you can mint SBT as proof of your influence (PoI).

Social to Earn – Oi! Network allows you to become a self-motivated Networker and grow money-making potential. As a networker, you can monetize your influence via content curating & engagement boosting.

Social Oracle - Oi! Network uses a decentralized validator network – Social Oracle, to prevent abuses of the incentives and reward actual influence. So, the chance of any fraud is zero on this platform.

Oi! Network aims to be the platform for the underestimated & moderated people to Own & Grow their Web2 social influence value in the Web3 world. It wants to build an unprecedented connection and growth module for people worldwide.

Imagine a world without search engine optimization (SEO) and recommendation algorithm. What would this Internet use experience look like? Unfortunately, this is the Web3 social experience we have today.

Becoming 'The Next Gen' Is Sexy, But How?

While many Web3' SocialFi' platforms have emerged as the 'next Medium,' next 'Twitter,' or next 'Facebook,' users in large find it hard to get Web3 content exposure. Despite having the merits of account self-sovereignty or data ownership, Web3 content suffers from a lack of visibility or means to target and activate the audience without a centralized content algorithm. It would still not be able to compete with its Web2 counterparts.

On the other hand, Web2 social interaction, 'the elephant in the room' in data value, remains uncaptured by Web3 apps. Furthermore, Web2 users' efforts silos within social media largely without any rewards. How cool would it be if users could easily jumpstart an influencer career with instantly available monetization?

Web3, as an idea, is fabulous, but the adoption would be progressive. Users would only jump ship when the offer by 'the other side' is unrefusable. To onboard the next one million users into Web3, a gateway is needed for users to unlock value in Web3, which is not available in Web2, with an already familiar infrastructure and user experience.

Teleport Web2 Social Experience into Web3

As an experienced team in Web3-native marketing and community build-up, we are launching Oi! Network to make off-chain social media assets and activities a part of the Web3 experience and make influencer monetization available for everyone.

We aim to make Oi! Network mobile-first and blockchain-agnostic. We are about to start with the Twitter extension and then support Facebook, Reddit, and Snapchat.

Oi! Network consists of:

How Exactly Does It Work?

We applied the Social-to-Earn model and designed it as three modules: Content Creator, Networker, and Validator.

Product Overview

Content Creator Module

All tasks are automatically added to a Task Feed ranking by bounty pool size in descending order. Any user can donate to the bounty pool to boost the ranking.

Networker Module

Any users can start their social media monetization journey as 'Networkers' with simple four steps: Connect, Stake, Social, Earn

Connect: connect your Twitter account to evaluate your influence on Volume

Stake: stake $MOM to mint your Volume into Proof of Influence SBTs

Social: complete Twitter social tasks

Earn: earn in-app currency that is convertible into $MOM

Social-to-Earn is a non-linear incentive model. Users' rewards depend on many factors, e.g., Volume, staking, referral, and post engagement, to minimize farming and Sybil attacks while encouraging longer screen time and genuine interactions.

Validator Module

Gaps do exist between Web2 and Web3, so extra assurance would be necessary to prevent reward abuse through the withdrawal of interactions. In Oi! Network users can choose to become validators of Social Oracle by staking. Completed tasks will be distributed as validation tasks to 100 random validators to verify the existence of interaction. 51% of votes can decide the results and whether to send rewards.

The majority votes will share validation rewards, while consecutive minority votes will be deemed intentional vicious voices and could be punished.

So…Another X-to-Earn?

A' to-Earn' model benefits community and liquidity bootstrapping, but think bigger.

While not being the first Web2-to-3 middleware, Oi! might be the first one that brings quantified web2 social influence, off-chain social interaction, and Web3 together. This combination can open up a new front for Web3 onboarding and activation. The possibilities are endless, but here are some examples:

Membership Management (Web2-to-Web2): Oi! PoI Using SBTs as a feasible criterion for token-enabled membership management (like guild.xyz) to onboard KOL or ambassadors who interacted with your contents and have substantial influence

Social-Activity-Enabled Campaign (Web2-to-Web3): How cool it is if users can only join the allowlist after completing social tasks on Twitter, so you make sure people are spreading the word for you

Keep Your Brand Trendy: Own your hashtag by putting an ongoing bounty pool so Networkers can repeatedly engage and likely pump your # to the trending section of more people more often.

Prediction Market: Bet on which hashtags can make it into the top 20 in a particular region by tonight. You can even set up a bigger bounty pool to make your chance bigger.

Break Shadowban & Protect Free Speech

Web2 social media are notorious for their direct and indirect censorship, a.k.a. The shadowban. The visibility and reach of your message will be restricted. Oi! Network plays a role in free speech by finding you more mouths to spread the word, especially for hashtags. An account in Web2 can be easily banned, but a memefied message cannot.

We are excited about what this new mechanism can achieve towards the ultimate goal of 'onboarding 1 billion into Web3', and we hope you are too. Stay tuned and join our journey:

Twitter | Discord

About

Oi! Network is a mobile-first portal of Web3 powered by social media extensions used to build a blockchain incentive model & crowdsourcing system for off-chain social influence to connect with on-chain identities and activities.
