Welcome to this week’s Arweave Weekly Digest. Lots of interesting announcements this week including ao’s mainnet tokenomics.

🇮🇳 Arweave India Demo Day hits high marks

Arweave India Demo Day landed on May 28th and showcased the top 4 projects coming out of the Arweave India ecosystem.

These are pretty big projects, and if you haven’t heard of them you should definitely check them out. The projects include:

• BetterIDEA - an IDE for AO

• 0rbit - A decentralized oracle network

• Liteseed - A new DePIN bundling network for Arweave

• Clickoor - A camera with built in uploads to Arweave

All came out of the Arweave India Hacker House.

🐇🕳️ Bitcoin Tokenomics? No, AO Tokenomics

No pre-mine or pre-sale?

21 million max supply?

Halving every 4 years?

Sound familiar?

AO Computer has opted for a very different approach to tokenomics compared to a lot of new blockchains. There are no tokens minted and sold to VCs before the public - it’s a 100% fair launch.

Likely users will benefit the most as tokens will be distributed by bridging to AO or holding $AR, as well as taking part in community initiatives.

NFA - but if you’re early into AO, this could be huge.

🦔 ArConnect hits 40k users

ArConnect, a browser wallet for Arweave, has surpassed 40,000 downloads on Chrome.

This is a pretty big increase from recent numbers, so great news for Arweave adoption!

This also doesn’t include downloads from other browsers, or other Arweave wallets like Arweave.app.

In this issue we’ll discuss some upcoming Arweave events (some sooner rather than later), new ao Computer releases, and community infrastructure being built around ar.io network.

Weekly Digest

ao 🤝 ai with AOVM

AOVM has recently been announced in the ao and Arweave scene, and seems to be the protocol for integrating LLMs such as Llama-3 into ao.

This is interesting as they are calling themselves a protocol - so this may sit on top of ao (and therefore Arweave) with its own consensus layer, and is taking inspiration from other L2 blockchains such as rollups.

Having a decentralized layer for AI is important, as it can help with issues such as content attribution and verifying the responses received by an LLM.

Not to mention it open up more opportunities for DeFi and AI, like Autonomous Finance’s DCA agents.

🛠️ Arweave Berlin and Arweave Day

Arweave Day has been announced by Forward Research and will take place in Berlin on the 7th of June.

Sam Williams, the founder and CEO of Arweave, has also teased that there will be a big announcement on the 6th to continue growing the Permaweb.

Arweave India Demo Day links went out last week, open to anyone who wants to learn more about the 4 biggest projects coming out of Arweave India.

🐘 ArSwap, now with memecoins

ArSwap are building out DeFi on ao Computer. Recently they announced a new trading pair with $TRUNK, the first memecoin on ao.

It may seem like small steps, but we’re slowly seeing an entire DeFi ecosystem come to life on ao, which is awesome as it’s all backed up by Arweave and permanent storage.

ArSwap also supports wrapped $AR from aox_xyz and a number of other test tokens you can trade for $AOCRED.

They’ve also released some improvements to the ArSwap UX to make trading more efficient.

ao summit takes place in Charleston SC, USA 💻

ao summit is the first ever event focused on ao computer to take place.

Other than it being a general place for builders, creatives, and Arweave enthusiasts to talk shop - it also was the stage for new ao announcements.

One of these was Outcøme, a prediction market built on ao. With Outcøme, you can predict and bet on events and milestones in the Arweave and ao ecosystem.

ar.io announce EXP airdrop 🎈

Since the launch of ao, we’ve seen a rise in tokenization, airdrops, and incentivized usage programs for users.

One of the more recent airdrops was ar.io’s $EXP token.

$EXP was airdropped to 20,000+ unique wallets, and acts as a proxy for future rewards once ar.io launches its mainnet.

You can check out the live EXP leaderboard, and don’t worry if you missed it - you can still get involved and earn $EXP with Zealy.

ao testnet hits 75M messages 🔥

That’s 75 million transactions stored on Arweave, through ao.

These milestones are important because as adoption of ao continues to grow, it strengthens the foundations of Arweave.

More utilization of the global permanent hard drive is always a good thing.

This week we shipped and launched (in record time) a fun little app for ao summit, called Rainbow Rabbit.

The aim was to make frens, and meet other builders by trying to catch as many different rabbits as possible. We gave away ~ $250 in $AR as a reward. It was fun, and we learned a lot!

ar.io announces migration to ao 💻

ar.io network are the team behind the biggest Arweave gateway nodes, which act as the “front door” to the Permaweb.

They also provide services such as ArNS, which map friendly names to Arweave transactions (like ENS).

ar.io services currently run as a smart contract on Arweave itself, however due to the complexity it’s hard to scale.

ao, being the hyper-parallel computer, aims to help with some of these scaling issues while keeping Arweave as the base layer for everything ar.io.

Create your own autonomous trading agent 🕵️

Autonomous Finance have just launched something super cool on ao.

This is a trading bot that anyone can use to set up their own portfolio strategies - e.g. automatically buying 10 $TRUNK every month.

This is just a blueprint, so much more complex strategies can be created, and there’s a lot in the works on this front. In the future we could see entire hedge funds operating onchain.

All of the code is open source too, so can be openly audited and updated by the community.

Weekly Digest

5B+ transactions and road to 50M messages 💬

Arweave hit 5 billion transactions on mainnet last week, which is the second largest amount of transactions on a blockchain following Solana, according to Sam Williams.

Arweave has seen a huge increase in transactions since the launch of ao, the hyper-parallel computer. Arweave saw 700M+ transactions in April, and 900M+ in March.

ao stores its smart contracts and their associated interactions (messages) on Arweave, using it as an immutable state layer.

ao has also surpassed 50 million messages this week.

HackMD promotes permanent storage 🐘

HackMD is a website for publishing collaborative documents and notes.

It’s quite well used within the Web3 ecosystem for research papers and more technical content, including by Vitalik Buterin.

The HackMD integration has actually been available since 2023, however it seems there is now new educational material about how to get started with it, and why users should use Arweave.

Whitepapers and other public docs on HackMD are great for Arweave, as it aims to keep them available for centuries to come.

aox_xyz announces bridge architecture 🏛️

A quick-fire one for aox: they’ve announced that they will be using the MPC (Multi-Party Computation) architecture for their ao bridge.

This seems a pretty sensible choice, as MPC is one of the more popular bridge architectures and can be faster to transact than traditional multi-sigs.

The beta launches in May.

We'll keep this one short, as there isn't too much public information on it yet.

What we do know is that aox is a bridge for moving assets in and out of ao, Arweave's new compute layer, and will focus on $AR transfers before moving onto $BTC, $ETH, and more.

Oh, and it's also built by the team behind everVision, who have tons of experience building payment and asset exchange infrastructure on Arweave.

The beta launches this May.

Get funded, and accelerate the future of compute 💻

ao Ventures was announced a few weeks back, and has now officially opened its doors for business.

Aspiring builders can apply for grants to build on ao, which is a new decentralized compute layer using Arweave for storage.

For those of you who aren't builders, still keep an eye on this - you can get in early on new ao projects, and it also brings both users and developers into the Arweave ecosystem as a whole which is great for longer-term growth.

DeveloperDAO, our beloved 🩷

DeveloperDAO, if you aren't aware, are an education-focused DAO that have just announced they are running their own Arweave gateway.

This is big because it:

• Decentralizes the Arweave ecosystem (the more gateways serving Arweave content, the better!)

• Brings more awareness to Arweave

• Helps educate people about a pretty tricky but crucial part of Arweave infrastructure.

Alongside their gateway launch, they're also running educational courses on gateways, led by the ecosystem's very own @K4y1s, who has already created fantastic content on Arweave.

A big shoutout to ar.io for partnering with DeveloperDAO, and leading the charge on Arweave gateway infra!
