It’s been just over a year since our last studio update.

In that time, ORIGIN STØRIES has evolved from an experiment in AI storytelling into a full creative studio exploring sustainable models for artists and brands.

To mark the launch of my creator coin ( and as a nod to the blue-painted video that inspired it), I wanted to share something more personal: a short Q&A about what drives me as a creator, what challenges we face, and why I believe the future of art is participatory.

What’s your favorite part of being a creator?
I love the process — taking an idea from start to finish and executing it. It's incredibly rewarding when an idea becomes real. I feel lucky to get to create across many verticals, including development.

Your first instrument was the violin, you've been on Broadway, DJ'd at Ministry of Sound, and so much more. Is there a discipline you're not good at?
I'm not great at drawing. In kindergarten I actually went up to the teacher's desk and marked myself with an F because I was so disappointed. No young Picasso or Ernst here.

What’s a favorite side hustle you had while pursuing art?
Getting to wait tables at Nobu in New York. It was a surreal experience, plus I got the news of my Broadway debut at the start of a double shift, so it will always be memorable. Also my aunt is Japanese, and going through their training allowed me to learn more about her culture and the rituals around dining.

What’s a challenge all creators face?
Capital. Up-front capital for ambitious projects, sustainable capital throughout a career. Even with talent and momentum, ambitious projects often stall without early funding. It's not unique to the arts, but the amount of pre-production work can be daunting - especially in music and film. But we're now seeing places like the UK introduce a per diem for songwriters and Ireland experimenting with basic income for artists.

What was the first thing you created — and the most recent?
l wrote a seven-page essay on Leif Erikson in second grade. I've always been fascinated by exploration and travel. The idea he made it to continental America more than a thousand years ago was incredible to me.

The most recent? I was going to say this studio, but it's still a bit in formation. I think the last thing I've finished creating is the first single from my new music project "Lone Stars".

Who (not what) inspires you creatively?
So many people. A few off the top of my head: Janelle Monáe - seeing her live made me want to pursue music. Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, Imogen Heap, Josephine Baker, James Baldwin — and my friends. I feel lucky to know so many people who are pushing boundaries across creative mediums.

What do you care about?
The human race. We're far more alike than it seems sometimes in a sea of personalized algorithms. Quality of life. Nature. Health. Being normal. In the Netherlands there's a phrase doe normaal, just be yourself.

And water. I can stare at it for hours; it's amazing how it can clear your mind and also spark so many new ideas.

What are you working on now?
My second album and scaling ORIGIN STØRIES — leveraging AI and blockchain to extend creativity to audiences and help different sectors innovate. Our main focus is bringing the professional version of VPM.studio to market and raising funds to keep developing.

What will you do with your creator coin?
The aim is to showcase a new model for creators who think like brands to fund and finish projects and to share what I learn so others can do the same. I plan to hold it as an asset while really pushing what's possible as both a creator and a brand.

Over the next few months I’ll publish a few short pieces about what I’m learning: from our real-world AI-powered experiences, to tokenized funding models and how brands can collaborate with creatives in more equitable ways.

Over the last two and half years, we have witnessed the remarkable rise of Artificial Intelligence and a significant cultural shift from FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) to JOMO (Joy of Missing Out). This has given birth to new movements, including the "slow AI" movement. This transition from urgency to strategy reflects an evolving relationship with technology—one that emphasizes mindfulness and thoughtful engagement with new advancements.

I helped create the first text-to-image tool on the blockchain in 2022, nearly 12 months prior to the commercial release of DALL-E , ChatGPT, and OpenAI. During these early days, we saw not only the joy and surprise that visual AI could create but also experienced the challenges and transformative potential of Generative AI, particularly within the creative industry. As a result of these findings, the last year my focus has shifted to building real-world solutions for creative professionals. You can read a recent interview I did for Music Ally, about how I'm approaching this challenge.

At ORIGIN STØRIES, our primary focus is on educating ourselves and others, fostering collaboration, and demonstrating real-world use cases for emerging technologies. We strive to bridge the gap between art and technology, showing how these powerful tools can enhance — not hinder — the creative process.

What if the endgame for AI is not to replace artists but to equip them with indispensable tools that amplify their creativity and make them irreplaceable in this tech-centric era?

The introduction of AI can preserve traditional artistic expressions and inspire capabilities that were previously unimaginable.

We believe that by combining technology with artistic talent, we can delve into bold new artistic directions that respect, celebrate, and extend the bounds of human creativity.

This is why we are participating in Season 4 of Artizen Fund.

Over the next ten weeks (approximately), we are competing in this important, community-driven initiative that supports groundbreaking projects in art, science, technology, and design. Fund awards match funding to innovative creators across a series of categories including the Common Goods Fund for Public Goods Pioneers and AI Filmmaking Fund for Generative Storytellers.

AI Literacy
AI literacy is continually mentioned as a vital part of this transformational period. But who is providing these workshops? Sure at enterprise level there might be internal workshops or paid for upskiling. But most creatives will not have access to these or the bugdget to attend the "expert" workshops or webinars that are being held. Some progressive societies, such as Sweden will bring AI into the classroom, but for recent graduates or working creative professionals, these opportunities will not be prevalent.

To assist in these efforts, we plan to host a series of free workshops and to create online resources that bridge this gap.

Research and Development
Research is crucial to truly understand what's possible with AI and how it can be best used. We start this fall as an invited guest to MTFLabs for a deep collaboration on data and AI in the EU Capital of Innovation, Linköping. This includes workshops to help collectively brainstorm an executable roadmap for AI literacy, lead by research team from Delft University of Technology. Our focus this fall is to continue to understand how to best serve the music event market and creative professionals. This includes testing and implementing new workflows that serve strategic use cases. We've already been doing this working through both co-owned and co-created mobile experiences, as well as partnering with festival experiences like Archetypes in Poland this September to create a personalized generative experience for all guests.

We are also focused on our next phase of development on our product, VPM. We will be working heavily on agentic workflows, to cultivate efficiency and refine our fine-tuned prompting frameworks. After finishing the Livepeer AI program we are currently participating in, we will also continue to push the possibilites of generative video, focusing on features like directional control and stylistic consistency.

Creating Public Experiences
We are dedicated to designing interactive public experiences where audiences can engage directly with emerging technologies, exploring how AI and other advancements can enrich creativity. Our goal is to make cutting-edge technology accessible and inspiring for everyone, allowing people to witness and participate in the future of art. We were able to showcase this in Stockholm this past June and look forward to continue this in the future, hopefully with the help of brands and partners who understand the value this can provide for them and their key target audiences. Amsterdam Dance Event is the largest dance music in the world. In our effort to educate artists and teams, as well as showcase the potential of our products we are focusing our efforts on AI literacy and brand awareness during this year's October Event. We will also participate in ADE Startup Day. Your support will help us to execute this first initiative in our initial go-to-market strategy.

We want to further encourage and provide spaces for artists as builders. In addition to aiming for a creative tech workshop we are also looking to host a public performance to showcase the potential of AI and Blockchain to unlock new revenue models and new experiences.

What sets us apart from the countless AI models and tools out there?

As an artist and creative entrepreneur, I’ve experienced firsthand the need for efficient, dynamic, and affordable visual content that matches the vision I have for a song, an event, or a client. This need becomes even more pressing in today’s world, where constant visual output has become essential. Yet, many creative tools try to replace the artist or designer, rather than assisting them in becoming more efficient. For most casual users, visuals might not be a consistent need, but for creative professionals, the demand is constant. The costs associated with creating these visuals can quickly add up, whether its subscriptions, stock video clips, hiring freelancers, or building top tier visual experiences.

While ORIGIN STØRIES works with brands and the B2B sector on custom experiences, our focus with VPM is on SMB creatives. We also aim to leverage AI to help artists explore new revenue streams. Recent reports, including this August feature in DJ Mag, indicate that the music industry stands to lose significant revenue due to Generative AI. At the same time, two recent articles in The Economist highlight how AI has yet to make an impact in the larger economy It’s more critical than ever to include artists in the conversation and build phase of emergent technologies.

Our goal is not to replace artists, but to give them the tools to become more efficient and engaged with their audiences, creating new experiences and opportunities for others.

• H.E.R. Con (ETHLondon): Collaborated with H.E.R. DAO, inviting participants to create their own 'Queen.'

• Cannes Lions: Developed a mobile experience featuring real-time user-generated stickers.

• Hybrid Visions (Paris): Blended fashion and surrealism with a former Louis Vuitton art director.

• ETHCC Brussels: Created an IRL escape room using an AI-generated game agent, supported by NFT Fest.

• FWB Fest: Experimented with personalized minting on Base Testnet.

• Amsterdam: Co-created tokenized DJ visuals with UFO Club and Fermi Collective.

• Stockholm: Hosted a live-streamed concert where the audience co-created visuals in real-time, with over 100k social impressions, 200 viewers, and 100 in-person attendees.

Through this we've begun to see a shift in perspective from artists and this was also validated in a recent report from the International Music Summit.

Our goal is to explore the uncharted territory between human creativity and machine collaboration.

This weekend, we’ll debut a new experience at Archetypes, a destination music event in Poland. We’ve partnered with a psychologist to create a personalized quiz that allows attendees to design their own archetype, which will be displayed on-site and given as physical tarot cards.

Over the past months we have been actively developing our product offering as part of the Livepeer AI program. We look forward to continue working with this team as they create valuable infrastructure for applications like ours. We are soon approaching Demo Day, where we will showcase this for the public.

We’re also excited to announce that ORIGIN STØRIES, our creative studio, is part of Artizen Season Five, a fund for creativity launching on September 17th. This marks the beginning of our larger fundraising efforts and AI literacy workshops for artists.

As people rush to build products at the intersection of AI and Crypto it’s important to not only examine market opportunity but thoroughly identify and understand existing problems that can be resolved by AI.

One of the biggest elephants in the room is that AI is theft. We are not here to debate this point, but the truth is that reference, homage and re-interpretation are staples across all art forms. In the right hands AI could unlock innovation, serving as building block on top of the thousands of years of recorded culture and cultural movements that have preceded it.

Not everyone needs to create images and videos. However there are many career paths that rely on this output. The exponential rise of social media which has led to the birth of the “personal brand” has made content creation a requirement. For small, independent artists and brands, being able to keep up has lead not only to burnout but also to poor quality creative. One of the superpowers of AI is quality and efficiency.

With this new potential unleashed, do we accept mediocrity or do we champion and push for originality?

Our stance is the later, but we know that time is of the essence. Many creatives fear AI because they don’t have access to play with it. Sure you may have heard of Hugging Face and Replicate and (insert free image generator) here but many creatives don’t know where to start.

This coupled with prohibitive costs make it difficult for AI to provide a true creative process for artists. AI models are already turning into “style kits”.  Imagine if every film in the world used the same lenses or every piece of clothing was made from the same material what a boring world it would be!

That’s where VPM comes in. We are multi modal allowing creatives to choose from a variety of models in their creations. We incorporate both image and video and have specific workflows in our roadmap to support musicians, filmmakers, designers, content creators, and more.

But our speciality is in efficient prompting. Built by creatives for creatives we understand the nuance of music genres and film styles, we understand the pre-production process and the tools creatives need to engage with audiences and the additional materials that could help support getting a seemingly complex project greenlit.

2024 AI Video Update: Tools, Trends, Traction

Last year I worked on an intensive research into AI & Video, with a deep dive into Web3 use cases.

Since then there has been a rapid evolution of the technology as predicted by many. Suddenly companies like Runway ML (founded in 2018) were everywhere. In terms of content types, short form video and live streaming still lead the pack in traditional social and media. It will be interesting to see how AI video is consumed and if this also ushers in more long form, "cinematic" content.

New Tools and Technical Advancements:

Early last year Deforum lead the pack in terms of image-to-video tools and companies like Kaiber integrated these latent space creations into their offerring. Many projects are still in research or stealth phase, including the recently announced text-to-video model from ByteDance (the parent company of TikTok).

AI Hits Hollywood

The Hollywood strike uncovered some of the brutal truths about how fast artificial intelligence will be implemented and how it could impact jobs. The importance of unions to protect workers helped significant protections for writer's from the Writer's Guild. Actors part of SAG-AFTRA accepted a deal with lots of grey area. It will be interesting how this plays out and what AI looks like at the next negotiations. It's clear the landscape will look much different, especially following recently deals between SAG-AFTRA and Replica voice studios and the major text-to-voice advancements that have been made by Eleven Labs.

Artists, especially those who release on chain have been experimenting with AI for much more than album covers. And while not all were video, there were more than 2k submissions in the AI Art Category alone for We Love The Art.

Ethics and AI

While there might be a lot of public discourse and artists anger over the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and the training usedor datasets, many cultural institutions and businesses are diving deep into AI in both a research and product development phase. One example is Cultural AI, a collaborative initiative in the Netherlands , focused on the "study, design and development of socio-technological AI systems that are implicitly or explicitly aware of the subtle and subjective complexity of human culture."

What's Next?

The timeline and specifics of how exactly AI will be layered into society is still to be seen, but it's clear that it will happen. I'm sure the advancements when we check in for 2025 are going to be even bigger than the ones highlighted today.

Education was a core value of my upbringing and something I will continue to champion well into adulthood. In fact, the first thing I ever co-founded was a non-profit focused on life skills through the arts. We brought professionals from New York City to townships and communities in South Africa for intensive hands-on workshops, diving deep into valuable concepts and frameworks that could be applied across numerous industries and occupations. One student (who I taught to write a screenplay on a napkin during a lunch break), is now a Script Coordinator at Netflix.

While the internet democratizes access to information, it also fuels isolation. As our use of technology increases, I believe IRL collaboration and experimentation will be more important than ever. There is a nuance to humanity and bespoke learning environments and experiences are some of the most powerful ways to unlock this collective energy.

There is much to look forward to in 2024, but I thought it made sense to start with the end of Q1 and talk about Metaversité, which will take place in Stockholm this spring.

The first edition of Metaversité took place in Mexico City (and online) in 2022. It was a first of its kind creative hackathon, pairing creative and technical minds together. In the next edition it will have a sharp focus, specifically around AI and the creative industries.

There are many reasons why we chose Stockholm for the next edition. It is a city that upholds many of our ideals when it come to education and society, egalitarian and filled with diversity of people and thought.

• Sweden is ranked #2 in the 2023 Global Innovation Index

• Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm will have the world's first major in content engineering , starting in 2024.

• Sweden is a global powerhouse when it comes to music, not to mention producer/songwriter Max Martin who has had 25 #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

• Sweden even has its own GPT-SW3, a large-scale generative language model for the Swedish language.

It is clear there are many camps in the The Great AI Debate, many with valid points and fears. Fear of AGI, fear of plagarism, fear of human devaluation. But approaching problems from a place of curiousity can turn them into mere challenges. As a creative, this feels like the most natural way. The artist journey is filled with learning new skills, refining old skills, and building things that don't yet exist. And Stockholm is a place that is both forever curious and forever creative.

At the start of 2024, I can truly say that AI is fuelling me to not only put out work in the world in new ways, but also help others unpack what might be possible when leveraging this technology. Generative AI allows me to use my art and cinema knowledge and creative ideas in a new way that enhances the stories I'm trying to tell.

Now that we've covered a bit of why Sweden, let's talk about...

The Goals of Metaversité: Stockholm

How will Creatives and Creative Industries Approach AI?

During Metaveristé, we want to dive deeper than speeches and panels, and offer a space for creatives to ask questions, experiment, and get a bit messy. We want to tackle storytelling, show how to build custom assistants, and dive into coding for creatives.

We also want to explore what co-creation between artists and audiences look like in a live stream format. Now that we have a good grasp of developing custom generation tools, the next question is how could these create a dynamic experience for people that can not be present physically?

What is Valuable in a Virtual Space?

Metaversité is part of Season 3 at Artizen Fund - a new match fund powering innovation. Two of the tools we will utiliize as a part of this are Console and Mona.

As we think of what an "online version" of Metaversité looks like, we also have to ask the question, what would someone want to discover on the internet when it comes to AI and the creative industries. How can we offer a fresh perspective to such a robust narrative?

Resources are always valuable and we will use Console to provide this. As far as the possibilities within a virtual space we are exploring real-world concepts, specifically in the realm of art and music.

Our ultimate goal is to provide a public good (in the spirit of Funding the Commons) that pushes boundaries by gathering bright and curious minds together to examine and explore the new frontier of artificial intelligence. We will pair this with a unique experiential offering.

We've come up with three versions of Metaversité: Stockholm - S (small), M (medium) and L (large). In small size it will be a series of hands-on workshops paired with an intimate live music experience featuring local talent +audience co-creation. In size L, we will showcase what's possible at the intersection of human innovation and artificial intelligence with a host of local partners.

Our goal is for 200 artifacts to be collected before the Artizen Season closes. This will increase our portion of the match fund and ensure we deliver free, dynamic, and innovative programming this Spring. They are .01 ETH and available here. It was the kind of rainy night they warn you about when you move to Amsterdam.
But it was Saturday and so there were still people out, just like us. Inside a theater at the Nieuwe Achtergracht canal we were preparing for the second premiere of our live music x AI co-creation concept.

An AI generator and a musician walk into a theater...

We broke some "theatre rules" last Saturday night, instead opting for an informal and hands-on experience, also leaving room to ask questions. Theatre has a lot brilliant methodology including Viewpoints and Alexander Technique and is rooted in imagination. So what better place to play with artificial intelligence? Here's a recap :

We used Guts to handle ticketing, and every person attending was given access to the custom artist generator created just for the show. They were also given time during the show to submit their prompt, by answering a question related to each musical act.

We started with an acoustic duo singing holiday songs allowing people to use the holiday remixer. The initial image generations made with Stable Diffusion, I then re-made some of the top images with Midjourney and turned them into video. The below was made with the input of an audience member.

During the second act, we also played with juxtaposition, mixing images together in an experiment with Stable Video Diffusion.

Our pre-show and between acts activity was letting people play with the videoSD project from Backdrop on the big screen! Really cool project.

An important note: we never use artist names, film references, or existing IP in our content engineering.

While we tested co-creation with all three acts, the visuals created for Cherry Makes Waves was simple but effective way to include and engage the audience. Here is how we did it.

The first AI visual worlds from our premiere show in Helsinki are live on Zora. We are also testing revenue share with artists from both the Helsinki and Amsterdam shows.

Collect the Label (Local Designer Spotlight)

We aim to spotlight local designers and brands in our shows. For the Amsterdam show we collaborated with Collect the Label, which has two stores in Amsterdam. I wore two pieces from their collection which are also AR-enabled. This will go in our ensō collective board, as part of our idea to build the musician's closet and give audience and community member's access. We previously added designer Rolf Ekroth in Helsinki.

ØS Artist Spotlight: Markomallow

We created a visual world for "Alien" by Finnish artist Markomallow. Since premiering the song at Forum Box 1 December, the song has been featured on Spotify editorial lists, including New Music Friday Suomi (Finland). Taking Chances

This past week, we spent 72 hours showcasing how we plan to use generative AI to build custom generation tools, co-creation experiences, and real-world value across the entertainment industry. It was a big week for ORIGIN STØRIES, which included three real-world examples of how creative and tech can have a positive impact and also unlock new ways of thinking. Here's the recap of our first three milestones ⚡ ️

Milestone One: Unlocking Possibility

We were invited by Amazon Web Services to present a demo during their event at the Venture Café in Rotterdam. In this educational setting, we also wanted to showcase how audiences could be engaged in new ways.

Everything started with a QR code. We created an AI-generated QR code with a prompt referencing a futuristic version of the Library of Alexandria. When attendees arrived for the event, they were asked to scan the code which took them to a simple typeform with two questions: 1) What was your childhood car/vehicle (color, type)? and 2) What is a memory in this car?

Over 20 people responded within the first 30 minutes of the event. Then the workshops and panels began, ranging on topics such as social impact with cloud technology, and how to build low-code applications using the AWS tech stack.

Right before the networking session began, I took the stage to give a short demo about how co-creation can be used to enhance storytelling and create engaging experiences. While people had been in the previous workshops, I was entering their answers into a pre-structured prompt that was related to a new song I'm working on called "Home." There was a large range of answers, all different, and after generating AI images, I turned them into a video and then edited together a loop to display during our acoustic performance.

Education and Workshops are something we are passionate about at ORIGIN STØRIES, for both technical and non-technical audiences. We will continue to give demos, especially in the educational and public sectors, to help people gather new ideas.

Milestone Two: The First Audience Response

We chose Helsinki as our test city for a few reasons. The Finnish capital is constantly ranked as one of the world's most innovative cities. Finnish people are open, warm, and up to trying new things. And Slush HQ, one of the world's largest startup events, happens there every year. We scouted a beautiful white-walled gallery, Forum Box, next to the Helsinki harbour and spent some months reaching out to find some of the best untapped talent in the city. Many people might not know all that goes into putting together an event, especially with live music, but here is a shortlist.

During this event, we wanted to test the idea of audience co-creation. The way we accomplished this was as follows:

1. Work with musicians to create their initial visual world for one song. This is done at the moment through a chatbot on our website - www.originstories.live/feature

2. Settle on the visual world and the remix idea (aka how the audience can contribute)

3. Ask the audience to answer questions pre-show to include their imagery during the event

4. Create a custom generator that can be used on-site

The version which we created features visual worlds for the four musicians who played on Friday with image generation done using Stable Diffusion.

The next components of this are a collection mint from the show. We are testing minting the visual presets and splitting this revenue also with the artist. At the next show, we will test splitting this with not only the artist but also the audience members who contribute.

One additional piece we are testing is the digital closet. As part of ORIGIN STØRIES, we want to create a fashion inspired digital closet featuring items from musicians around the world who participate in our live shows. This is also a great way to highlight local designers. In Helsinki, we collaborated with menswear designer Rolf Ekroth and will showcase the pieces that I wore on our digital board on ensō collective. In the future, guests would be able to login with their ticket and browse the "Rockstar" closet, which will feature a collection of unique items worn by ØS performers.

Milestone Three: In Da Club

As part of Backdrop, we built another demo tool, which is aimed at creating high-quality dance music visuals for DJs, producers, clubs, and venues. While the demo tool uses a custom Python script to help gamify the prompting process, the choices are intentionally combined to ensure a great result.

To test, we worked with a promoter in Stockholm for their Afro Rave party at the world-renowned Debaser club. The party had more than 300 guests, and because it was our first event, we wanted to make sure the visuals looked great on the big screen. To accomplish this, we received the input from the promoter via our feature form and turned these into images in Midjourney. We then used Stable Video Diffusion to generate video and then turned those into an upscaled reel using Capcut.

The results were awesome, and in our opinion, the visuals look amazing behind the DJ booth.

We are testing some ideas here around subscriptions and post-event collection. Some organizers are not interested in co-creation; however, they just want top-notch visuals.

Conclusion

Custom generation, co-creation, and co-ownership are at the forefront of our mission. We are starting with the music industry because of the sheer demand and need for dynamic visuals required by artists, promoters, and venues in all genres. But filmmaking and fashion are also areas where we are confident we can drive value. For us it's important to get these tools in the hands of creatives as soon as possible so they have a chance to help build the future.
