Several other nucleic acids, recombinant proteins and recombinant virus vaccines, as well as a variety of monoclonal antibodies and other specific antiviral drugs, have also been rapidly advancing into clinical trials and conditional listing.

Yuan Zhiming believes that with the acceleration of globalization, the future may face a more complex and changeable biosafety situation and great pressure on the prevention and control of unknown and emerging infectious diseases. Only by making a good reserve of knowledge, technology, drugs and personnel can we have the ability to respond quickly when new viruses appear.

In Yuan Zhiming’s view, the high-level biosafety laboratory is responsible for the investigation of vector animal pathogens in natural foci and the research on virus distribution law, pathogenesis, detection technology and methods. Reliable physical facilities, strict management system and professional staff have become the key to the operation of the laboratory.

He suggested that through the establishment of biosafety innovation and training center, a platform for biosafety personnel training, information resource management and biosafety policy research should be formed, and a biosafety laboratory information sharing system should be established. At the same time, colleges and universities are encouraged to establish biosafety disciplines, so as to improve the professional ability of biosafety practitioners, the command and decision-making of biosafety laboratory emergency science and technology research, and the effective utilization and function of laboratory resources.
