Dogecoin which is known as the first meme coin was released as a joke December 6, 2013, and its name was derived from the famous DOGE internet meme that became popular earlier in 2013. A simple search for “meme coins” will result in a long list of cryptocurrencies claiming to be a meme coin. Although most of these meme coins are actually crypto tokens and not crypto coins by definition. Meaning these cryptocurrencies are running on either the Ethereum network or another network and not on their own individual blockchains. When searching these meme tokens you will discover most of them actually have no relation to memes at all. A few are merely riding on the Doge-tails of Dogecoin, inferring that these tokens are a part of the DOGE ecosystem. A meme token based on the original meme coin named after a meme. Confused? Well to simplify the idea, these tokens are the crypto version of a poser. The once upon a time “fun and friendly Internet currency” community of Dogecoin has recently re-established itself in 2021 according to dogecoin.com. This action brought several high profile celebrities to influence and pump DOGE.
