A pivotal element in this effort is the Compute Network State, a concept inspired by Balaji Srinivasan&apos;s &quot;The Network State,&quot; which aims to decentralize and democratize the foundational elements of our digital infrastructure: compute and storage.</p><h2 id="h-the-threat-of-centralized-ai" class="text-3xl font-header !mt-8 !mb-4 first:!mt-0 first:!mb-0"><strong>The Threat of Centralized AI</strong></h2><p>The trajectory of AI development is alarming if controlled by centralized entities. These entities could not only monitor our actions but also shape our perceptions across various domains—political, geopolitical, technological, and more. The rich and powerful would have the means to create biased AI systems, and without alternatives, the rest of us would have no choice but to follow suit. This bias could manifest in numerous ways, from an AI agent refusing to unsubscribe you from a service to maps displaying distorted geographical information due to underlying political agendas.</p><p>Such biases pose significant risks not only to individuals but also to nations. The scarcity of GPU resources exacerbates this issue, as only the wealthiest companies can afford to lead innovations in AI. For Web3 to succeed, compute and storage—the two core elements of the digital network—must be governed and controlled by the community. This idea of community ownership leads us to the creation of the Compute Network State.</p><h2 id="h-the-compute-network-state-a-new-paradigm" class="text-3xl font-header !mt-8 !mb-4 first:!mt-0 first:!mb-0"><strong>The Compute Network State: A New Paradigm</strong></h2><p>In the Compute Network State, community members can seamlessly contribute their computing power, forming small edge network states within their regions. These Edge Network States are accessible to anyone through a trustless and permissionless network, allowing for the development of an economic structure that benefits the entire community.</p><p>At <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="https://spheron.network">Spheron</a>, our Fizz Nodes and Provider Nodes are initial steps towards building this Compute Network State. In such a network, there is a single point of entry that can be horizontally replicated. From the discovery of electricity and the invention of the engine to the rise of the internet, none of these milestones would have been possible without experimenting with multiple ideas.</p><p>Amazon serves as a prime example of the power of experimentation and pivoting. Starting as the world&apos;s biggest online bookstore, Amazon evolved into a dominant player in cloud computing and e-commerce. Jeff Bezos&apos; willingness to experiment with various ideas was crucial to reaching this level of success.</p><p>Experiments should lead to tangible usage or adoption. If not, it&apos;s wise to pivot, leveraging lessons from past experiments. This iterative process, known as pivoting, is beneficial for both personal growth and startup success. Failing to pivot at the right time increases the risk of failure. While the timing of pivots is crucial, the essence lies in making informed decisions.</p><p>At Spheron, we have pivoted from website hosting to storage, and now to computing. As a founder, my goal has always been to find the right product-market fit. Our journey of experimentation in the infrastructure space led us to develop a Distributed GPU Framework. This would not have been possible without our initial ventures into web hosting and storage.</p><p>In Web3, pivoting is rarely discussed, leading many startups to fail by avoiding necessary changes. However, we embraced pivoting, focusing on bringing Web3 infrastructure into daily use by startups and corporates. Each pivot addressed critical infrastructure issues, ultimately helping us identify the most pressing problems for end users.</p><p>I am proud of our pivots and confident that we are now positioned to build a business that will significantly impact lives by connecting people to the digital economy through Spheron. This disparity raises a critical question: why are Web3 GPU marketplaces not even close to their Web2 counterparts in terms of success?</p><p>At Spheron, we delved into this issue and sought answers from existing users of Web2 marketplaces who have interacted with Web3 alternatives. The findings were eye-opening and have driven us to implement transformative changes.</p><h3 id="h-the-problem-awareness-and-trust-deficit" class="text-2xl font-header !mt-6 !mb-4 first:!mt-0 first:!mb-0"><strong>The Problem: Awareness and Trust Deficit</strong></h3><p>One of the primary issues is that Web3 products assume their market presence is known to end users, but it isn&apos;t. Many Web2 users we spoke to had never heard of any multi-billion dollar Web3 GPU marketplaces. Moreover, even Web3 AI power users are leasing GPUs from Web2 providers because they benefit from credit lines offered by centralized cloud players. This convenience significantly diminishes their interest in Web3 alternatives.</p><p>Feedback from our close AI engineers was equally revealing. While they appreciated the onboarding experience of some Web3 marketplaces, they were disappointed when their orders for H100 clusters resulted in receiving A100s instead. They also raised concerns about who runs the head node of the RAY, highlighting the lack of transparency and reliability.</p><p>Our due diligence uncovered that many Web3 marketplaces focus more on pumping their tokens than offering a product comparable to Web2 counterparts. They often build FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) among retail investors despite not having a competitive product. This practice erodes trust and deters users.</p><h3 id="h-the-trust-issue-flawed-design-and-lack-of-knowledge" class="text-2xl font-header !mt-6 !mb-4 first:!mt-0 first:!mb-0"><strong>The Trust Issue: Flawed Design and Lack of Knowledge</strong></h3><p>Trust is a significant barrier preventing wider adoption of Web3 marketplaces. Most current marketplaces are flawed by design and fail to build trust with compute providers due to a lack of foundational knowledge about end-user needs.
