The cost of using Nillion services depends on factors such as computational complexity, storage requirements, and the number of nodes involved.</p><p>Node Staking Mechanics</p><p>Nillion requires nodes to stake NIL tokens to participate in the network, store particles, and run calculations. Nodes are assigned a Node Health Score (NHS) and a DAO Support Score (DSS), if applicable. All nodes receive an NHS, while only Full Nodes receive a DSS. The NHS and DSS are publicly available on the Node Leaderboard. Users can choose to use nodes with the highest NHS or select nodes with specific NHS and DSS levels.</p><p>The Node Self-Governance System creates a financial incentive for node operators to achieve a high NHS, which results in more particles being stored on the node and more participation in network functions. Over time, this increases the robustness of the Nillion Network, as nodes that do not maintain high performance are disincentivized from continuing to participate in the network. The NHS is based on Node Health Factors, while the DSS is based on DAO Support Factors. This can be useful in a variety of contexts, including cryptography, cybersecurity, and other fields where the confidentiality of information is important.</p><p>What’s Nillion brings as ZK-roll up solution?</p><p>Nillion allows nodes in a decentralized network to work in a unique, non-blockchain, way.</p><p>While Nillion represents a revolutionary leap from a predecessor technology known as Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC), unlike SMPC, network nodes do not have to communicate with one another. Unlike blockchain, nodes do not run immutable ledgers designed to store transaction data.</p><p>Instead, new Nillion technology, called <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow ugc" class="dont-break-out" href="https://nillion.docsend.com/view/qpmnn7g39iyy4uz9">Nil Message Compute (NMC)</a>, is purpose built for decentralized secure storage and computation and thus opens up new use cases (on the Nillion native network), while also enhancing existing blockchains.</p><p>The key thing is Nillion is a NMC, so let’s talk more about it</p><p>The NMC protocol powers Nillion’s decentralized and scalable public utility for the secure and fast information processing. ZKP allows a node (the “prover”) to prove to another node (the “verifier”) that a given statement based on the data they hold is true without sharing this data. Each cryptographic primitive is built for a different purpose and serves different goals.</p><p><strong>SMPC</strong> is a decentralized protocol that allows multiple parties to collaboratively store and process data while guaranteeing data confidentiality. In addition, some SMPC protocols are ITS (such as BGW [14], GMW [4], and SPDZ [15]). However, the main problem with SMPC is its scalability. Processing confidential data in an SMPC network requires the nodes to exchange a large number of messages when the computation is not trivial. This can easily lead to execution times that take hours. This lack of scalability has been the main factor preventing SMPC from use in many real-world applications.</p><p><strong>NMC</strong> is the cryptographic foundation underlying Nillion, as it is better suited than ZKP or SMPC for the decentralized storage and processing of confidential data. This means that any token listed on a local DEX can be exchanged globally, without the need to exchange their source tokens to a zkLink supported token list in advance. This saves users time and money, and reduces the volatility of potential sudden price changes of the involved token pairs.</p><p>Another important aspect of zkLink is its unique withdrawal system. One of the biggest challenges for any Layer2 protocol is the trade-off between assets security and long waiting times for withdrawals from Layer2 back to Layer1. zkLink addresses this problem by introducing the concept of “brokers”. When a withdrawal request is made, the optimal broker will then initiate a transaction from its Layer1 wallet on the target chain to the trader’s, via a zkLink smart contract deployed on Layer1 for data storage.
