We’re excited to officially announce information about the launch of Soul Name Service (SNS) on the Aptos mainnet. SNS is a naming system on the Aptos ecosystem. SNS allows Aptos users to map a human-readable name to their Aptos wallets. They don’t need to use not-human-readable names (e.g. 0x6b0erv0r6t328rtt9485769ee22eaa091b91faa233a1a90320f0ffb2314a4458), instead they can use human-readable names (e.g. james.soul) when sending a transaction.

SNS names also can be used as IDs on dApps on the Aptos.

Launch Date

November 20th 14:00 UTC.

Sales will begin at the same time.

Prices of SNS name NFT

Currently, registration costs are set at the following prices:

6+ character .soul names: 1 APT per year.

5 character .soul names: 5 APT per year.

4 character .soul names: 20 APT per year.

3 character .soul names: 60 APT per year.

2 character .soul names: 120 APT per year.

If you register for 2~5 years initially, you need to pay a small additional fee.

Because of the scarcity of 2 — 5 character .soul names, they are more expensive.

We are also setting our current costs low in order to give back to our community which has supported us since the beginning.

Please note that after a certain period of time, we will likely increase the registration cost for SNS names.

How to Get SNS names

The following steps to get your .soul name:

1. Go to SNS platform ( Coming soon)

2. Log into your Aptos wallet. (We support Martian Wallet & Petra Wallet.)

3. Search for a Soul name you want.

4. Click the search button or press the Enter key on your keyboard.

5. If the name is available, you can buy by clicking the “Resister” button. (If the name doesn’t follow the character rules below or if someone else has already obtained the same name, it is unavailable.)

6. Approve the transaction.

Available Character Sets

We are launching SNS with a limited character set in order to ensure that the system operates safely and correctly.

SNS name’s rules

• Letters a-z, numbers 0–9, and “-” are allowed.

• Only lower case letters are allowed.

• Names may not begin/end with “-”.

• Names may not contain more than 63 characters.

We will expand the available character sets as quickly as possible. However, we will do it as long as user safety is protected.

In the near future

We have many plans for SNS expansion. We’re working on some of them right now, and we will release soon.

1. Support many wallets

Now, we support Martian Wallet & Petra Wallet. We will support other Aptos wallets soon.

2. Primary name

We are developing a feature that allows users to set their primary name, which we will release soon.

When a user has multiple .soul names, this feature will allow them to set a single .soul name to represent their wallet address.

This primary name will also be the ID of the user in the integrated dApps on Aptos.

3. Subdomain

The subdomain feature allows users to create and use subdomains of .soul names they own.

For example, a user with “james.soul” is able to create multiple subdomains such as “wallet.james.soul” and “blog.james.soul”.

These subdomains can be assigned to their other wallet addresses, and will also be available as website domains, as described below.

4. Website domain

The website domain feature allows users to host their websites with .soul name as the website domain.

For example, when a user with “james.soul” hosts his blog with “james.soul”, this blog can be accessed by searching “james.soul” on compatible browsers. Subdomains like “blog.james.soul” will also be available in the same way.

This .soul website domains are not managed by the DNS, but by the users themselves in their own wallets, so the websites with .soul website domains are truly decentralized websites which is more censorship-resistant, more privacy-protected, and more secure.

5. Sui-compatible Soul Name Service

We’re planing to expand widely to other blockchains of the Soul programming language, and will first develop Sui-compatible Soul Name Service.

When we launch Soul Name Service on Sui, we are considering airdropping the .soul names on Sui to the holders of the same names on Aptos. (Details have not been finalized.) We have founded Soul Name Service in order to provide global IDs on the “Aptos ecosystem”.

We will continue to develop to achieve our goals. Thank you for your support.
