Growing up in the 1990s, I remember the excitement my school friends and I had to get a hold of the latest Texas Instrument (TI-82) graphics calculator. It was not just to plot interesting algebraic or pre-calculus formulas for a visual representation to pass our math exams, but we soon discovered the ability to program our own games and play together.

One of my favourite games on the TI-82 was playing Snake. The basic premise is to go around eating food and the snake grows longer with each piece of food. Obviously, the player who can attain the longest snake ("highest score") held the bragging rights around the cafeteria lunch table as being the greatest.

I share this anecdote to say blockchain technology came some years ago, but it took a bit traction for people to see there are many possibilities to transform many ways we carry out interacting with data and people services in a digital manner. Once people started to catch on, the excitement of "building" new products and services, or re-inventing old ones into something better has lit up. Like discovering the ability to create our own games with only the motivation to learn how to code on a TI-82, blockchain programming is accessible to all walks of life and not only behind closed doors. It just takes a bit of getting the hardware and the know-how to code.

Blockchain, to me, levels the playing field for many across the world to join the creator economy regardless of the traditional old world regimes of control. Its inherent characteristics of decentralization, transparency, and interoperability brings us closer to the original intent of the creation of the World Wide Web.

Even this newsletter medium using blockchain technology is something I hope to learn and to inspire others and myself. I hope you will enjoy my journey as I write about it along the way.
