Oh, reader, I am happy that we have met, for you see, I believe we have met as well as any two humans have met in person. You do, however, have an advantage if you have read my work before, but I can only imagine that if you are reading this, you must understand love. I understand it too, and if you understand love, you must understand loss as well. The two in life are very often understood in conjunction, and when done in a healthy way, they lead to individuals I respect. So look at that, we must be friends already, for I cannot imagine anyone who understands those words could not be my friend.

We could be friends even with millions of years separating our lives as we usually understand it, yet the written word, when used to express concepts, does not submit to time as a master. Neither will our bond and understanding.

Perhaps you understand my plight in life, or perhaps you do not completely, but I appreciate your interest nonetheless. I wonder what is happening around you, my friend. What is life like where you are? What have you experienced that is different from what I have experienced and understood? What trials have you gone through, and why have they made you who you are?

What makes me happy is being able to reach my community even when I have no one else. The written word has held space in my being for the promise of better times and growth in humans in ways that bring community and unity, peace and harmony, while allowing us to continue to be individuals. While we await this utopia, it is our souls that live there already and remind us that we may be citizens of this civilization now if only we choose to be.

Maybe one day they will understand and study the worries and struggles of people living in a society that straddles democracy and a capitalistic system but now seems to be shifting toward an authoritarian outlook. However, I worry for the future because while humans have made great strides forward, humanity also takes large steps backwards.

I worry about the country. I have never seen it as divided as this. Ever since the pandemic, it feels like people have been short-tempered. Does every generation feel like the world is ending, or is that just us? Why does this seem like such a pivotal moment for humanity? I suppose the future will tell.
