noticing more and more communities choose mighty networks instead of facebook groups. although am left feeling quite underwhelmed with the product that seems to just be mimicking and succeeding based on not being facebook rather than any truly exciting new ideas about how groups might come together online.

NKOTBdao was set up as a playful (and responsible) experiment amongst friends with various backgrounds in the arts, entrepreneurship, film, music, tech - all of whom are excited and intrigued by the cambrian web3 exploration we are living, but who also have reservations around by the aesthetic and creative sensibilities of much of the current NFT hype. first and foremost this is an experiment to help us all learn about DAOs, NFTs, and web3 by doing. secondly it is an opportunity for us to support projects that we are excited by, and get a first row seat inside the governance and development etc of those projects.
there is no expectation of financial gain from this experiment. we are not set up to trade, but rather to be long term owners of the assets we buy.
decisions by the DAO will be taken by simple majority - apart from decisions like selling assets or returning funds to members which will require a supermajority vote.
members will be able to sell their membership to others only with unanimous approval of current members.
members will have 3 days to vote on proposals. at the end of the 3 days, all current votes will counted and the majority vote will win. if we are tied, the vote will be considered a NO.

heard that betty davis passed on gilles’ show where i was also reminded that miles was gonna call it witches brew.... but betty davis said nah, call it bitches brew 🔥🔥🔥

and then watched the phil cox documentary right after the show.

tragic. really makes you feel what if our world opened to our potential. tender loving film-making, the best kind where the filmmaker is in some awe of the subject. and betty is so beautifully magic and human and so cool and - we learn - beneath the sexual fiery bravado so sensitive. hers seems like such a deep journey in acceptance, in morning and sorrow and in quietude.

in a concerted effort to maybe futilely regress, stop, or slow calcification, set a goal for myself this year to listen to different genres with a focus on dancefloor and electronic music (but jazz also!)- one of the primary genres of my late teens and twenties. honestly mainstream american ‘discovering’ this music i.e. the birth of something they started calling EDM with that whole vegas super club ting turned me off because of what american mainstreaming does to almost anything it touches! but also the drugs did stop working and moving to america definitely influenced the sound-spaces i lived w PNW white rock and NY black rap and jazz etc. burning man always increased the dance music share.

so now my weekly new music rituals include navigating to the dance music page on [[apple music]] to dig through new releases as well as diving into shawn reynaldo's [[first floor]] recs. jaques green's sweet fantasy ep was tipped at from a bunch of these pointers and i think actually made it on to my [[apple music]] #newmusic mix as well given ive listened to jaques plenty over the years. nothing groundbreaking here, each - as usual - gorgeously produced track could have been released at various points of club history over last few decades that ive been listening but hes a great craftsman and the tracks work on body and feels levels.

the lovely ()and lovely idea for a) #podcast And Introducing did bob dylan on their latest show and smartly and correctly based it on chronicles vol.1 which they treat a little too lightly laughingly comparing it to his blog and i discovered some great things on this episode like the bob dylan does U2 track series of dreams an outtake from oh mercy i think obv w daniel lanois and the now subscribed to podcast dedicated to bob called jokermen) which was also a great track i discovered on the pod, and the website expecting rain that maniacally and obsessively as dylan deserves try to archive his every everything.

just like SNAP , this is mainly post ATT impact - in a few yers FB's moat in terms of the most effective advertising platform on the planet is going to be even greater once they figure out how to fix attribution in post-ATT world
whatsapp alone - is so undervalued and under-monetized
instagram is still a core internet habit for kids even though it is less primary than it is for their parents
facebook groups is still huge dark web and though i could see it being disrupted slowly - still massive moat and also undermonetized
even if all the metaverse AR VR stuff is a total value destroying - its just like GOOG's moonshot experiments - irrelevant in the grand scheme

#vegyn - given my absolute faith in [[frank ocean]] and my much shared always ignored opinion that #blonded radio on [[apple music 1]] was the most electric radio experience of my adult life (and coming from my 🔥🔥🔥 history with revelatory radio that is near crazy talk) which vegyn co-hosted. apparently vegyn met frank at plastic people which is probably all you need to know to make time to listen to the [[don't follow me because im lost too!!]] which again he categorized by bpm i have had it on loop a lot and no doubt it will stay on loop for lots of 2022.

we started a lil friends-dao as a learn-play-invest-experiment and now after a way-longer-than-it-should-take given how cumbersome it was for some members just to send ETH to our juicebox! we are in the fun phase of trying to figure out what to invest in.

thinking through some criteria and approaches for us to consider:

NFTs that are part of a community, most likely attached to a DAO, that give us insight into governance and evolution of new web3 experiments
NFTs or projects by people we know
invest for long-term - not aiming for quick trades of flips
projects and art that we are genuinely excited by and believers in (rather than what is necessarily hot at the moment)
NFTs that dont suck

[[burnt sugar]] may be the band or i guess collective that i have seen live most in my life so i come at [[greg tate]] as a musician whereas i guess most came to him via his writing that rotating motley colored crew of amazing downtown musicians (my primary era was that of vijay, mutamasik, micah, morgan, vernon, suphala)were always on fire live and before the descendants of lil wayne took over they represented that first weird black culture that i could really vibrate to with no holding back - with butch morris already departed rest in power am gonna miss having the option to see the band in their lead. https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-rites/138194175 really wanna go back and dig into his writings now that influenced so many of my favorite critics. and another reminder of the HUGEness that the village voice was for so long.

last week was one of those honest mistakes all too easy to make in our listening-scape: assuming a track/lp on my new music [[apple music 1]] playlist is actually brand new so the #2022newmusic lp i listened to most last week it turns out was actually released [[December 2nd, 2021]]! oops maybe i need to recommend two really new projects this week to make up for it! der lange marsch - a gas lp that was suitably hypnotic for background and frontground listening one - recommended w the best headphones you can access.

singles-wise obv the #YE [[The Game]] #eazy track was deeply dissected

and the [[sonic youth]] teaser In&Out was rinsed although maybe doesnt really count given it was recorded in the 2000s!

[[the lost daughter]] was one of my favorite films of 2021 (most of the paltry viewing took place in the last couple weeks of december based off of various year-end lists). a horror of motherhood (the first in its genre that i can recall watching) so menacing, with its women on the verge dealing with the paranoia of overwhelm and the crushing solitude of motherhood. highlighting the natural unnaturalness of the most natural human act and the lack of explanation for our actions. loved the intimacy of voyeurism as we watched daughters as wild as nature's bugs and acorns.
