DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) are innovative organizational structures developed in response to the need for transparent, decentralized, and automated organizations. The prevalence of blockchain technology underpinned the rise of DAOs, and today, we have many significant DAOs that manage everything from DeFi protocols to NFT collections and real-world assets. However, as DAOs grow in complexity and ambition, they can reflect and look to nature for valuable lessons in efficiency, resilience, and adaptability. Nature’s ecosystems thrive on decentralized networks. There is no central authority that decides how ecosystems should function, yet when you consider an expansive ecosystem like a forest, there is an intricate web of relationships between trees, plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms. Each of these organisms plays a role, contributing to the health and sustainability of the whole. Removing any single element can disrupt the ecosystem, but there will always be an automated response mechanism to compensate.

In this respect, all DAOs should strive to operate similarly to a self-sustaining ecosystem like a forest, distributing power and responsibility across a decentralized network of contributors, enhancing resilience, and reducing the risk of single points of failure. Another key strength of nature’s self-sustaining and organizing systems is adaptability and evolution in response to ever-changing conditions. Species evolve over generations, adapting to environmental changes and emerging stronger. Species that are unable to evolve are also slowly extinguished or are wholly removed from changing ecosystems. Ant colonies, for example, can quickly reorganize their structures and behaviors to address new challenges or opportunities. DAOs can embrace a similar iterative process, with the most successful DAOs capable of being agile and responsive.

DAOs can evolve their governance models and operational strategies depending on market conditions and the emergence of new technologies. This continual improvement process ensures that DAOs remain relevant and effective in the rapidly changing technological and economic landscapes in which they operate.

Finally, I would like to touch on biodiversity. Biodiversity is the variation among living organisms from different sources, including terrestrial, marine, and desert ecosystems, and the ecological complexes of which they are a part. Biodiversity describes the richness and variety of life on earth, and it is one of the hallmarks of any healthy ecosystem. Biodiversity maintains the equilibrium and balance of an ecosystem, ensuring life and prosperity for all the organisms that inhabit it.

DAOs can learn from this facet of healthy ecosystems by promoting diversity within their communities. DAOs that embrace diversity are usually healthier in all metrics that measure and ensure the success of a decentralized community. A diverse membership base brings a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and expertise, enriching the decision-making process. This diversity, in turn, can help DAOs better understand and address complex challenges.

At Push DAO, we embrace diversity every day, with a DAO Council spanning three continents and five different nations. This has greatly helped us in our personal growth and in fostering a rich, intricate web of relationships that drive innovation and collaboration across our global community.

As DAOs continue to expand and mature, they must not only draw inspiration from nature but also integrate these natural principles into their core structures and operations. By doing so, DAOs can build on the foundational strengths of decentralized systems, creating organizations that are not only efficient and resilient but also capable of thriving in a constantly evolving environment. The key lies in recognizing the parallels between natural ecosystems and decentralized communities and leveraging these insights to foster innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability in the DAO space.

All in all, nature offers a wealth of insights that can inform and enhance the functioning of DAOs. DAOs can build robust, resilient, and innovative organizations by embracing decentralization, adaptability, evolution, and diversity. Just as nature's systems have thrived for millennia, DAOs can leverage these principles to create sustainable and thriving digital communities.

About Push DAO

Push DAO is the community that governs, drives and shapes the future of Push Protocol through grants, community building and ecosystem development to expand the open communication layer that allows any crypto wallet/frontend to tap into the Push network and get any communication across. The Push DAO Council addresses and executes the vision of the DAO, introducing multiple programs for contributors and builders to participate in paddling together toward greater progressive decentralisation.

The world of Web3 is constantly growing and evolving, and the role of communication can never be overstated in its growth. Push Protocol offers a revolutionary way for dapps to connect with their users securely by giving them the power to send notifications and messages to their users directly to their wallets.

The dapps or builders who 'push' Push Protocol's boundaries are the pioneers of a more connected and secure Web3, and Push Grants were introduced to help accelerate this goal within the space. The Push Grants Program was created to provide financial backing to projects looking to build using Push Protocol technology. With the help of this grant, developers will be able to create innovative technologies that use Push Protocol, such as secure messaging systems for DAOs (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations) or new ways to receive real-time price alerts.

Push Grants v3: A Shift Towards Decentralization

With the release of Push Grants v3, a major step towards community-driven governance has been taken. Previously, the Push Grants Program functioned under a more centralized structure, but with v3, it has been decentralized, and control has been given to the community.

A Grants SubDAO has been established within Push DAO and will now oversee the new grant program. This SubDAO has a Grants Council composed of two elected community representatives and one Push team member, ensuring collaboration and a focus on community needs.

To jumpstart the program, Push Grants v3 is launching with a pilot round focusing on specific areas within the Web3 landscape:

Social dapps

Gaming dapps

Mobile dapps

Community Initiatives

DAOs

DeFi protocols

Education

Publications/News

We particularly prioritize compelling social, gaming, and mobile apps and female and diverse founders.

How do I get involved?

Here's how you can get involved: Push Grants v3 offers two types of grants to cater to projects at different stages, and they are:

Push Mini-Grants (Up to $2,000): This grant type is ideal for early-stage projects still under development or with a smaller user base. These grants will help kickstart the project's growth and enable it to leverage Push Protocol's technology.

Push Growth Grants (Up to $10,000): This type of grant is awarded to established projects already integrating Push products or projects capable of attracting significant new users to the Push ecosystem. This growth grant allows the projects to create incentives that drive user adoption for the project platform and Push Protocol.

Push is particularly interested in projects with a clear roadmap demonstrating how they will attract new users. Growth grants will be awarded through a more rigorous selection process than mini-grants.

Push Grants v3 goes beyond governance with a revamped application process designed for a smoother user experience.

Present day:

No matter where we are, the internet keeps us connected.

With the rise of web3 and general blockchain technology, we’ve hit a critical inflection point where we can take two paths.

One results in the perpetuation of the status quo, in which access to information is tightly controlled by the few, and most of us are cut out of any benefits that accrue from our contributions online.

The other takes us down a road that’s already being paved by all sorts of wonderful teams in this wild space we call home, a road that leads us to user-governed comms that don’t compromise on UX and truly do reward all involved.

This second, more emergent path is the one that we at Push Protocol have been following since our inception in 2020.

Since then, we’ve come a long way with over 600 total integrations, 250 of which are institutional, over 9 million notifications sent, and an aggregated community of well over 100,000 individuals from almost every area of the world, dedicated to our vision of making Push the go-to communications protocol for web3 and step-by-step, everyone.

Where we’re going:

This year marks our first major step into true community governance of the ecosystem. We believe in the progressive decentralization of a protocol, over time, with specific milestones that gradually attach more and more control through governance.

What does that mean in practice?

Let’s zoom out for a moment.

This is year 0 for Push DAO.

This is the year the foundation is laid for the greater house that represents our global community’s governance of the future of comms.

On June 5th, we’re kicking off the Push Grants and BD subDAOs.

The former represents the pilot of full community governance of Push ecosystem grants, while the latter is the first framework ever for proving that the community can drive the greater growth of Push itself.

These subDAOs will run from June 2024 to the end of August 2024, at which point they will enter a 3-month cool-down period while their performance is reviewed. On November 3rd, they will resume operations until the close of January 2025.

Push DAO, in year 0, is a growth vehicle for the Push ecosystem, run by the community itself. By year 1, aka, May 2025-May 2026, we envision a world in which Push DAO expands its responsibilities to include formally training designers, developers, gaming developers, DeSci professionals, and more to interact with and build on Push.

All in all, anything that happens after June 3rd is up to the Push community.

It’s just our goal, our driving force, to be the DAO that onboards everyone and helps them scale towards the future of communications, as one.

Where you come in:

To that end, we now have a formal governance structure where delegates can propose for and vote for the community. At the same time, anyone in the Push ecosystem can do the same.

Every vote counts. Everyone’s work matters.

Getting started is as easy as introducing yourself on the Push Forum and ensuring your Push is delegated to yourself or another individual you trust to vote in your interests. The future of comms doesn’t work without everyone.

If all of this resonates with you if you’re sitting here thinking, “I’d like to make an impact on what the future of all communications looks like,” there’s a place for you at Push DAO.

You don’t have to have a deep technical understanding of blockchains, smart contracts, or anything else to participate.

We need developers and creatives.

We need teachers and financial minds.

We need students.

We need those who want and need to do more, those who work better within a strict framework, and those who thrive outside of the box.

Whoever you are, we’ve got a place for you.

We’re dreamers and doers with an eye for both the minutiae and the strategies that connect them.

Communication, coordination, and collaboration drive everything. The future of comms is an interconnected web of protocols and networks that the users govern.

We’re already building that future.

Follow us on Twitter.

Subscribe here to stay on top of all things Push DAO.

Dive into the Push Governance Forum and introduce yourself.

From there, one of our dedicated DAOists will reach out and guide you forward.
