Zyla Shares Insight Into Their Earnings From NFTs vs Web2 Platforms

On Monday, multidisciplinary (meta)label, Zyla, shared a thread on Twitter about the revenue earned from their first release. Inpouring EP (by @AlexRothMusic & @PurtonA) is an NFT release that earned $2438.09 in its first 4 months, proving the impact of web3. In comparison, the EP earned $0.38 on Spotify and $112.38 on Bandcamp.

In a tweet, they wrote “music is significantly more valuable than big tech companies would like us to believe”. They couldn’t have said it any better.

Kits Sales Break $15k in Collaboration With Web3 Music Pioneers

Kits, a sample pack marketplace, launched the sale of their Season 1 Preview Pack this week. In total, 933 Kits were minted and over $15k was raised. Season 1 involves artists and producers such as @TKtheLegend, @_AbJo, @dotmvsic, @msft_fml, @Edwin_Honoret and @ramzoidmusic.

The Preview Pack is a sneak peek into what’s to come from each of the artists involved. Each person who registered for the presale was granted access to 6 mints at a price of 0.01 ETH each for 48 hours, starting on February 8th.

Rihanna’s Song “Bitch Better Have My Money” Released on Opensea as Music NFT

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Rihanna’s hit song “Bitch Better Have My Money” was put up for sale as an NFT on AnotherBlock, offering holders a share of the streaming royalties.

The NFT was not released by Rihanna, nor is it endorsed by her. The release was a collaboration between a producer of the song, Jamil “Deputy” Pierre and music NFT startup AnotherBlock. Deputy sold a fraction of his own streaming rights to the song via 300 NFTs. Was this move smartly executed? Perhaps. Rihanna did in fact open with the song during her Super Bowl set.

Holders, however, only receive 0.0033% of the streaming revenue, which is estimated to amount to $13,50 a year. The earnings may not be impressive but this drop does give us a glance at how NFTs can boost the music industry.

DefJam Enters Web3 but Not Entirely How You’d Think

DefJam has entered Web3 by signing a virtual band called The Whales. The band is the result of a collaboration with The Catalina Whale Mixer, a collection of 5,555 NFT cartoon whale avatars on the Solana blockchain.

The artists behind the band are unknown, however, we do know that there is an all-star group of musicians and producers attached.

Although DefJam breaking into Web3 with a virtual band isn’t entirely expected, it is nothing new for Universal Music Group. In 2021, UMG signed KINGSHIP, a virtual band made up of NFT monkey avatars Bored Apes.

Oohlala Launches Direct Mint Feature

Web3 music player and aggregator, Oohlala, has developed a direct mint feature on their platform. This allows collectors to mint music NFTs directly on their platform, rather than having to use multiple different platforms to mint.
