As their own Website states *“…the world’s first dump-to-earn!”*

It’s an interesting and somewhat 50% utilitarian 50% playful concept to say the least. The idea is simple. Dump less desirable NFTs to receive Junkcoin tokens. Then use those same Junkcoins to fist for random (potentially more desirable) NFTs. Essentially it’s a way to dump old NFTs and choose new ones from random selections. Although at this very moment Junkcoins can’t be used for NFT fishing so in order to receive a spread of fresh NFTs, you’ll need to pay either in ETH or MATIC.

As their own Whitepaper “Junkpaper” claims in the Overview section:

“The Junkyard is a decentralized dump owned by a bunch of crazy rats. It’s a place where you can throw away your shitty NFTs to clean your wallet (and OpenSea) while earning some Junkcoin, but it’s also a nice way to try your luck at fishing some rare NFTs abandoned by degens in order to rescue the most valuable ones.”

NFTs that can be fished on ETH network can be valued up to 1.875 ETH at the moment of writing this article.

On Polygon network the most valuable NFT is priced at 110.94 MATIC.

How do their smart contracts communicate?

“We use Axelar technology for cross-chain communications between Ethereum and Polygon networks and a custom bot. To speed up the fishing process and because cross-chain calls are slow, we created the Junkbot that calls Chainlink on Polygon, every time a fishing attempt is made in order to draw the winnable NFTs faster. Each attempt is always verified on-chain afterward, and if the bot fails, Axelar will take over the fishing attempts anyway.”

Now let’s look at their socials and numbers.

On X (Twitter) they have 29.1K followers as of 20.08.23 and are followed by users like Axelar Network 129.7K followers (with a paid verification subscription badge).

On Discord their server is at 15.8K members though it is hard to tell the exact number of active users. Nevertheless the community is fun and friendly and quick to help one out.

On Zealy the Junkyard community consists of 866 members and at the moment their page doesn’t have any quests available.

On OpenSea the Secret Rat Society collection has a total volume of 161 ETH, a floor price of 0.0098 ETH, a total of 3,996 items out of which 1,260 are owner. Finally 32% of the collection is owned by unique wallet addresses. But lets keep in mind that only 3% has been listed.

The Affiliation page on their website has a “They Trust Our Shit” section that has logos of Polygon, Alchemy, Ledger, Axelar, Chainlink, CoinMarketCap, Hachen, OpenSea, Jarvis labs and Magic Eden. Although their Junkcoin hasn’t been listed on CoinMarketCap as of this moment. It is also worth mentioning that on X (Twitter), their profile is followed only by Axelar profile and not any other listed trusting business.

Conclusion

The project is interesting, the community friendly and the overall vibe of the collection is edgy, bold and fun. With that in mind, dump-to-earn concept is refreshing. I personally have been bombarded by useless scam-agitating NFTs and it’s a good way to get rid of them while collecting other tokens and fishing for better NFTs.

Nevertheless at the moment the project is too fresh for any serious predictions. Mostly because some details are still unclear and it’s hard to visualize how such an idea will be made viable long term.

https://twitter.com/DropdropH43570

Links & Sources

https://junkyard.wtf/

https://twitter.com/thejunkyardNFT

https://discord.gg/VgWTWfWq

https://zealy.io/c/junkyard/questboard

https://opensea.io/collection/secretratsociety
