The unique thing about Degen is that the price really doesn't matter. You can earn the token in tips fairly quickly, making your initial investment null, which is a really cool feature.

I've seen both opinions on this.

The people who are against locking are correct in their views. Why should a token limit sell pressure by forcing its holders to lock? Why can't they market the token so there are more reasons for people to buy and hold?

The people who are for locking are also correct. If you're earning six figures monthly of a token by doing nothing but sitting on your ass and trading tips, why shouldn't you have skin in the game and lock tokens?

Although I'd prefer not to lock, I'm okay with it because I also don't plan on selling anytime soon and don't need to sell for financial reasons.

I've tried quite a few strategies. I've tried posting great content. Sometimes, random tips will come in, but most of the time, they don't.

I've tried buying mint.club tokens to grow my degen position, but this didn't work very well because there's not much volume on most of those tokens right now. It's still fun to buy them; I'm just not focusing on them.

I've tried tipping small amounts with each reply (50-100 Degen). This was more spammy, in my opinion, because you have three bots following you around. It's not really the best look.

What seems to work best is to find a handful of generous friends. Take advantage of the 15 tip4tip allowance, and don't be afraid to drop a decent amount of degen on their casts. After all, we're all degens. Why not share your allowance with your favorite people on Warpcast?

Additionally, joining hypersubs and buying farcards that have daily raffles works pretty well. Shout out to MM's farcard :)

With everything happening in the crypto space right now, if you have limited liquidity, it's best to keep your plays focused on high-conviction tokens. Degen is one of those tokens for me. Starting fresh and embracing challenges

Starting on a new platform is humbling. With no followers and limited reach, i had to introduce myself authentically. Farcaster was filled with people I respected — creators, builders, and thinkers reshaping the digital space. I knew i’d been missing out, so I took the plunge.

One thing that helped early on was $DEGEN tipping, which had just taken off.
Sharing my art across channels and connecting with new people, the $DEGEN community was incredibly supportive. I was creating art daily, meeting people, and earning in a meaningful way — it was surreal.

Creating my first viral piece on farcaster

Though many knew me for the peaceful groupies, my first real viral piece on Farcaster was reply guys — a tribute to the community that was always there for me. Friends like bfg, spit, apollo, and jason became essential to my early Farcaster experience, and portraying the reply guys was my way of honoring them.

Then came the trippy animated pfps. I'd take people’s profile pictures and give them a psychedelic spin. sSoon, everyone wanted one, and I found myself doing raffles, with people tipping $DEGEN for a shot. seeing people’s excitement made it worth every minute.

Building community through Art

The magic happened through my art. Taking something personal, like people’s pfps, and turning it into unique art created a real connection. It wasn’t just art, it was making people feel seen.
this connection opened doors i’d only dreamed of, leading to collaborations with rainbow, shillr, base, and even friends and collectors reaching out for physical pieces.

Demand for trippy pfps grew fast, so i began doing raffles twice a week and eventually launched my Hypersub: the yon experience, where top subscribers could get custom pfps along with monthly art drops.

Expanding reach in a quiet space

Farcaster’s channels and curated communities were game-changers.
unlike twitter, with all its drama, Farcaster felt like a space where people truly cared about art and its stories — not just the market.

I'm always experimenting, and Farcaster is perfect for that. Recently, i collaborated with aether (an ai agent) for an on-chain drop on Zora.
The agent suggested a concept, and i created the piece. seeing an ai prompt a human artist, rather than the other way around, felt groundbreaking. The best part is that all of this took place publicly, in a cast thread.
There are endless werid opportunities on Farcaster if you’re paying attention.

Consistency and Authenticity

Showing up daily, engaging, and staying in tune with the culture is essential. understanding inside jokes, knowing what people are talking about, and keeping up with Farcaster and web3 culture have been key to my journey.
I’ve learned that consistency can be as important as quality. I show up, create, share, and repeat. It’s a rhythm that’s become second nature, and it’s how i’ve built real connections.

Farcaster is filled with tech enthusiasts and builders working toward a better internet, and that energy and motivation fuels me. The whole community is a constant source of inspiration, and i feel like i’m exactly where i need to be right now.

Finding my place on the Internet

Farcaster isn’t just a platform, it’s a home for artists and builders in web3. it’s a space where i can be myself without the noise of other platforms. here, people get crypto, web3, and what it means to be a creator. It has given me a place to thrive and a community that appreciates my work.

Right now, i’m diving deeper into my Hypersub journey, dropping experimental pieces for subscribers each month and seeing my evolution in real time.
I recently moved to los angeles to be closer to the action and meet collectors, friends, and collaborators.
As for what’s next, i’m still experimenting, exploring, and seeing where this path takes me. ready to step into the unknown once again.

Once you're in the dashboard, click new post. That'll bring you to the editor. I like starting with an outline. You can either type that out yourself or go to an LLM and ask it to draft an outline for you, telling it to include the heading tag types for each section (H1, H2, H3).

To find your editing tools, just type "/", which will bring up a wide variety of options. The options you use most will probably be the Heading tags and image upload options. It's pretty simple: just select the tool and go to town.

With Paragraph's built-in AI, you can have a blog post in seconds, although I wouldn't recommend this. Instead, use the AI as your guide to get shit done.

Just type out your title, then use the star button (figure 1)

to generate both a subtitle and a first draft. You can even do that with the heading image (I did that with this article). Super simple, easy process and if the draft doesn't look good sometimes it's interesting to see what the AI generates and it can give you ideas for additional content to add to your article.

If you want to showcase a YouTube video, you can easily do that by typing "/YouTube."

If you think your post has a shot at going viral, you can add the "collect post" button by typing "/collect post." Feel free to collect this one even though it's kind of junk but hopefully helpful to new writers.

**C:** Back in 2006, I was 20 years old and I didn’t really know what to do with my life. I was already in a relationship with the person who would become the love of my life, but I was missing something that I was truly passionate in. I needed something strong to help me thrive and feel alive. So, I immersed myself in music and art. I sought a place that would nourish my mind.

**J:** On my side, I grew up in a family of artists where creative stimulation was always present. My hypersensitivity and my asocial/weird side had confined me further into a bubble where only creation mattered. I had already explored various artistic mediums: visual arts, drawing, object-making, graphic design, web design, music... all in a self-taught manner. For me, it was primarily about satisfying my taste for techniques, expressing inner images and emotions, and my great curiosity always led me to discover artists and musicians with a universe outside of trends, often in the avant-garde.

**C:** I discovered incredible artists, spent my nights listening to music, and had many wonderful encounters. I loved discovering new artists, especially those who were little known but had amazing talent, rather than listening to already famous bands. That’s when I discovered Jimmy, who would later become my partner and friend in the artistic project Anemale.

We had a lot in common: artists, music, and he had a truly different dimension. He brought something powerful to me; it was beyond just listening to music or seeing a piece of art. He pushed me to explore what lay behind a work, what we could feel deep within ourselves, what the hidden symbols were, and what meaning we could give to our own introspection.

**J:** For me, this meeting was a true human and artistic enrichment because Camille was always a step ahead in the search for the unexpected and quality. This shared taste fueled a genuine friendship that became increasingly inspiring. Thanks to him, I discovered new artists who, unknowingly, would become my references, without wasting time searching. My life became a rhythm of creations nourished by constant inspiration.

**C:** I really enjoyed having deep exchanges with him, and he became a close friend, even very close, with whom I talked every day about our lives, our loves, our private lives, our humorous and artistic references, and everything happening around us. Then he introduced me to his music, his art, and it really opened something powerful within me. I was in awe, contemplative. I didn’t know how to help him promote his works, but I wanted to help him, to highlight art simply and share it with the world.

**J:** I must say that I had many gaps in that area. I had always set aside the social, commercial, and administrative aspects... I felt so honored to be featured on his blog among the artists who inspired me. Camille always encouraged me and allowed me to grow because I felt his feedback was constructive and sincere, never complacent...

**C:** At first, I started a Tumblr to showcase musical artists, including his music. I even created a website that had over 400K views at the time; it was cool, especially for discovering little-known artists. Then I became interested in art and exhibitions. He introduced me to incredible artists like Yves Klein, Matisse, Jesse Kenda, lesser-known works by Dalí or Chagall. This adventure lasted over 10 years, where we were friends, always exchanging and nourishing our respective experiences.

**J:** A beautiful friendship, very present and important, without ever having met. We spent countless sleepless nights philosophizing about life and art...

**C:** It’s true that our exchanges were very intense; I didn’t know anyone else in my circle who could understand me as well. A few years later, life took us down different paths, and for about a year and a half, two years, we didn’t talk much. I had my personal and family life; I had children, and I also found my way in my professional field, and I didn’t have much free time anymore. I trained to become a mental health nurse, which was a significant step for me to help people experiencing depressive episodes, help people facing social difficulties and mental health issues. I continued my life, but I always kept an eye on his creations. I always had this idea that one day he would be known because he had shown me his works, his videos, his creations, his music, his paintings, his sculptures. Yes, he is a multidisciplinary artist, a bit of a creative genius who was just waiting to be revealed to the public. The longer I waited, the more I saw that his social media posts had still not found the audience they deserved.

**J:** My creativity works in cycles, and I went through different stages, always responding to my curiosity, trying to improve without ever thinking about the commercial and communicative aspects. Externally, and probably naively, I thought that the notion of popularity could restrict the purity of intuition, spontaneity, and freedom of expression. So, it was very secondary for me, even though I felt a slight frustration.

**C:** Then, in 2021, with the crypto boom, I became interested in crypto art. I thought I should try something to help Jimmy, always with a sense of kindness, and I started to reconnect with him without necessarily mentioning what I had in mind, just to check in on how he was doing and to ask if his works had been revealed, shown, or exhibited anywhere. But no, nothing. He told me he continued to create out of passion, but that having a presence on social media wasn’t his thing.

**C:** So, I wanted to go much further. I needed to explore this world, but I also needed funds. So, I sold my bike to have a sort of investment and get involved in projects, understand how all these mints, marketplaces, and contracts worked. I tried to integrate ETH, but seeing the fees, I thought it wasn’t possible, and I didn’t have the necessary network. I didn’t have enough experience. I stumbled upon a really cool blockchain called FTM and an incredible network of artists and collectors known as the TombHeads auctions. I had finally found the beginning of our path. So, I started talking to Jimmy, telling him that there was something else, that physical art could be digital, and that we could finally do something with his art. I had this idea that one day his art should be highlighted, and I proposed to show him how everything worked and to launch him into the world of crypto art.

**J:** I can admit now that, honestly, at that moment, I didn’t understand anything, and I couldn’t imagine for a second where this project would take us! I was just happy to reconnect with my quirky friend, who hadn’t changed, still as obsessive and ahead of the game as before. He hadn’t forgotten me, and I hadn’t forgotten him either... And despite a few years of silence, I had every reason to follow him in his new plan.

**C:** He showed me a collection called Organic Dreams, and I told him we absolutely had to showcase this collection. That’s when he said to me, “I’m on board, but we do it together.” The two of us had really deep exchanges, and we arrived at the idea that we needed to link two people for the same dynamic. We wanted to create this project for a true collaboration because we think alike. He would be the creative hand, and I would be the brain, and yet, the roles could interchange. That’s the strength of a true relationship and project: mutually supporting each other and growing together.

We were, in a way, an artistic movement constantly in reflection or creation. He already had his works, but I had to channel his energy because you should know that Jimmy can spend nights creating and then stop for 2-3 hours...

**J:** It’s true, without eating or drinking, yes... lol.

**C:** ...and then go back to it because he has this urge to create. Sometimes he would ask me what I felt or what I wanted to express in the project, and he would create it from scratch. It was something powerful, unstoppable. Anemale was always awake, always bubbling, the hand of creation and the brain of project reflection as one linked entity.

**J:** What’s funny is that this relationship, although it evolved into a different project, still had the same dynamics as before—this mutual, nourishing, delirious, and profound connection. I see it as the essence or engine of our friendship.

**C:** That’s actually our logo: the hand cannot function without the brain, and the brain cannot function without the hand. That’s where everything took on meaning.

We then launched on FTM and held live sales on Discord every Saturday night for over a year, where more than 300 artists and collectors would spend 2 minutes presenting their works. We had our first introduction in October 2021, and there was a contest to create works around the theme of Halloween. I explained the concept to Jimmy, and he created 6 pieces that were all sold within 2 weeks. Very quickly, Jimmy continued to create, and we sold about fifty works. It was a powerful moment during the live auctions where everyone could react on the Discord live. We had incredible projects, and there was even a big project that wanted to bring us to the USA to present our work. (Yes, we are both French) A major gallery in Paris also wanted to exhibit our work both digitally and physically, but we needed to put up a significant amount of money to print the pieces with our printer, and we couldn’t carry the project through. We continued to sell our works and even printed some to send to the USA, Austria, and England; it was truly a great satisfaction.

**J:** It was at that moment that I wanted to explore symbolism. I wanted to create something that could tell stories and speak deeply to collectors in a limitless, free, and introspective way. I began creating simple characters and a universe of not entirely defined forms, allowing for a wide range of interpretations. All of this was combined with color arrangements unique to me, certainly inspired by my experience in floral art and decoration. Camille was very excited and continued to feed the emerging project with his ideas, tastes, visions, and shared emotions day by day. It was the first time we talked about my visual creations, that my artistic work was valued and contested around a price...

**C:** Then the crash happened, as we all know, and everything stopped very quickly. But we had to build something even stronger. At that moment, Jimmy was feeling a bit down; he was going through difficult personal challenges.

**J:** I was experiencing burnout and unfortunately harassment at work... which was both a trauma and a resolution, a starting point for a new life. Thanks to Camille, this brief experience in NFTs allowed me to realize what was most important and how I would approach life from that moment on: to create and take the time to love my loved ones.

**C:** I gave him the time to recover and supported him as best I could because I couldn’t let my friend fall. It took time, but he came back even stronger than before. One day, I was on vacation in Spain, and Jimmy started sending me layers by the dozen. Previously, I had talked to him about collections where layers could define a criterion and modify a work. Jimmy didn’t know about Web 3.0; he was far from it and didn’t know about this kind of collection, but I had to show him what was happening so he could draw inspiration from these collections and put the Anemale signature on them. That’s when we began creating the Symbolic Cities collection. We spent months on it, and the unique aspect was that I had my place in the creation and assembly. It was quite incredible; for 15 months, we created, assembled, imagined, and inspired each other to create this collection.

**J:** For me, it’s the best collection we’ve created. We managed to meet the criteria of rarity by creatively twisting them around symbols. Each city tells a story, an emotion, a whim, a reference. We talk about cities here, but they could all be immaterial, like a metaphor, a soul, something alive, intangible, resonating in the heart of the collector. Each layer contributes to the interpretation of a city, whether associatively or not.

**C:** The minting was very complicated because on ETH, it’s always the same issue—the network is closed, and no one responded to DMs. However, we did have some sales with major collectors, some of whom own CryptoPunks, but we wanted to showcase this collection or world. We continued to work hard; I kept sharing our works, and we were able to exhibit our pieces at NFT Paris thanks to Eleonora Brizi from SuperRare, at NFT NYC on one of the largest billboards in NYC, in Amsterdam thanks to Artcrush, and in Belgium thanks to HUG Gallery.

**J:** These exhibitions are still unimaginable to me.

**C:** I was going in circles on X when I stumbled upon Warpcast, and the story took a rapid turn. I met incredible artists, but I found that they were too confined within the channels; I was thirsty for curiosity. So, I wanted to discover something else and had amazing encounters on this network, including Jesse, Jonny, and Jason—the three Js, lol. Hypersub was also something significant because a strong bond was created between our collectors and us during our exchanges. We could chat in the group, and they were all very present daily. link here

I managed to carve out a little space for myself on Warpcast, and I thank Maretus for including us in this new episode on the Success blog. We have many artistic projects ahead, like bringing the Symbolic Cities project to Base (soon), Artnames with our friend Arrotu (soon), collections that have never been shared before, and collaborating with artists—not just on my own. That’s also what Anemale is about; it’s one of my values from the beginning. My project wasn’t selected for the Moxie Retro Grant 1, but I haven’t said my last word. Every day, I continue to support my fellow artists and collectors because, like many of us here, I believe we need to grow together and not just individually, I’ve minted nearly 400 pieces on Base and Zora, I create daily art, I highlight artists everyday and I don’t plan on stopping there. Jesse said it well: it’s not simply "higher," it’s "higher together." It’s a great inspiration for everyone. If you help each other, you will rise higher. This message resonated strongly with me.

**J:** What you can take away is that Anemale is in constant evolution. This project knows how to adapt while remaining true to its essence, and it is not lacking in resources.

**C:** I’ll conclude with this: the Fluid Matter from Mind collection is a great success with over 500 editions and 244 collectors still ongoing. Farcaster

Think of LLMs as your employees, and you're their manager. Put shit in, get shit out. It might take a while, but eventually, you learn how to communicate with these sophisticated machines.

My journey always starts with Claude, and I think of Claude as your project manager. You'll go to Claude to kick things off and go back to it if your code has really gotten off the rails.

Cursor is your terminal and software engineer, you'll set up all your files and debug minor issues with Cursor.

Github is your deployment manager, making updates to your code after deployment very easy.

Vercel is your app host and deployer. Once your code is live, you can check the Vercel logs for bugs and errors.

Claude is the most powerful LLM for coding, and you can ask it to go slow when starting out, which is helpful. For example, you can specify, "I want to do XYZ," tell it what the first steps are, and it'll walk you right through it.

You can even set yourself up for success by loading in specific project knowledge, like I did here, before entering a prompt.

Claude will be your best friend throughout the whole process, and it doesn't care how dumb your questions are 😆

II use Claude to ask what files I need and what structure they should be in. Then, I make those files in Cursor and start dropping the code from Claude.

If you need help with a specific section of code, all you have to do is highlight and add it to the chat and ask your question. You can also add additional files as context in the chat prompt by hitting the plus button. Sometimes, I don't get the best answers for difficult bugs in Cursor, so I go to Claude for help. It's just something you get a feel for eventually on when to use Claude or Cursor.

Claude may tell you to enter commands in the terminal and that's the section on the bottom of Cursor. You may need to install npm if you haven't coded before and that can be done by running this command in your terminal: npm install -g npm

Test your frame here: https://debugger.framesjs.org/ or https://warpcast.com//developers/frames. These tools can also find bugs in your code. Just copy/paste logs from inspect, or sometimes Claude will even ask for the full page source. These can be found by right-clicking on the page.

Github is a must; make sure you create an account. You can push updates directly from your terminal. Use Claude to figure out what commands to use and how to push updates to repositories.

Finally, Vercel, this is where you'll get your share link to share your frame with the world! There are other programs you can use as well, but Vercel works well on GitHub, and it's free.

Once your frame is deployed, you can also check your Vercel logs for bugs and errors.

There is nothing in this post about programming. Choosing that skill was just a tactical excuse for me to explore being able to learn 24/7. In this post I share with you how.

It has been hard for me to write this blog post.

I believe it is because I don't feel comfortable putting myself into any sort of label.

"Being a programmer" tells the world a picture about myself that makes me feel tied to that identity. Constrained. Limited.

I don't like that at all. I am a boundless spirit that is looking for itself.

Through my experience I've realized that the path towards that lies in the process of developing mastery in some craft.

Programming has been -for me- one of the core vehicles for doing just that. To become a good programmer, I had to develop meta-skills that I believe to be more important than any other particular skills.

I'm going to use this piece to explore both perspectives and do my best to shift from the notion of 'me' to the notion of 'you,' so that I can help you learn how to apply my insights to benefit your own life.

You can become anything you truly want. I taught myself how to code, and because of that, I’m now working with an amazing team to build a Farcaster client that aims to bring a new story to the way we interact with each other (and ourselves!) through the internet: /vibra.

You can use these insights to learn how to write, paint, do 3D modeling and rendering, trade cryptocurrencies and make good profits, or pursue anything else you actually want to do.

I believe that the world is more open than ever, and the opportunities for us to do fun things, that heighten our spirit, are more alive than ever!

But you've got to show up, face yourself, and do the work.

So, welcome dear reader, and now let's get into it!

First, you have to make the conscious decision that you are going to target your energy in a particular direction. Whatever it is, you've got to choose it.

And with this I mean, commit.

You have to commit to the practice.

It is only through repetition that you are going to discover what is your (and only your) unique relationship to the craft that you choose.

So choose it.

Ask yourself: What do I want to do?

And commit to start doing it, every day.

When I taught myself how to code, I discovered the Pomodoro technique. It is a simple but very effective technique, that forces you into a time container (which is one of the most powerful tools you will have on your toolkit).

You work on periods of 25 minutes, and then you rest for 5. Then you go back to another 25 minute sprint, and then you rest for 5.

In this moment of my journey I used to sit down in the attic of my room, and my mission was to do at least 2 of these, every single day.

I committed to do it, no matter what. Even if I didn't want to. Even if I felt tired. Even if I didn't know what to do.

Especially when I didn't know what to do.

"The biggest predictor of long term results is learning to do things when you don't feel like doing them"

So I sat down, every day, to actually do the work.

I started with a simple tutorial. There are plenty of those on the internet. Pick one. Don't spend weeks choosing which is the best tutorial for doing what you want to do.

That is an excuse, and you will be hiding behind it.

Actually, that is a pattern that you need to be aware of, and that will repeat over and over again.

We have a natural tendency to hide, and learning something new is hard.

We resist it. It makes us feel fear.

Because doing it forces you to face your shadows. It forces you to assume that you don't know something.

And there is a big part of you that wants to be accepted and loved by the world, and embracing that you don't know something has always been seen as a source of weakness.

But do you know one of the most important pieces of wisdom that humanity has ever produced?

"I only know that i don't know"

Once you realize that assuming that you don't know something is the most valuable state of mind that there is, the world transforms into a playground.

Full of opportunity. Full of wonder.

And you start relating to it through the perspective of a kid that just wants to play.

And play is the most effective vehicle for learning.

So you need to cross this threshold between "i don't want to do it because i don't know how to do it and i suck at it and i will fail" into the "fuck it, let's see what will come out of me today" as soon as possible.

And the only way of doing that is showing up, and doing the work.

Even if you don't want to.

Even if you feel bad about it.

Some days, YOU WILL FEEL BAD ABOUT IT.

There is no way out of that.

The only way in is through. And that is where the commitment and focus comes to aid you.

Because you said you would do it.

And you do it.

Not because you told someone else that you would do it.

Not because there is people expecting you to do it.

But because YOU care.

This is about you, and how YOU are going to transform your life, from the inside out.

So commit to time windows, inside time windows.

The one that I created for myself?

88 minutes of deep work every day, for 96 days. Then I take a rest from this discipline for 21 days. I actually designed a calendar as a consequence of this structuring of time, and i'm pretty weird about it (More on that if you are curious enough to DM me and ask).

You do the deepest work that you can. You focus as much as you can. And then you rest.

Every day, when the moment came, I came to my computer, opened loom, opened the custom powerpoint presentation that I had created for this purpose, changed the date on it, changed the index of the day, set up the 88 minute timer, and clicked play to the recording.

Every day.

Videos that no one will ever see. But that is not the point that matters. The important part is that they happened!

And with that, we enter the second phase of our journey:

Or learning to accept life as it is.

If you are at least a little bit familiar with the practice of meditation, you may already have realized that these two meta-skills are the ones that are directly developed through it.

So of course my recommendation will always be for you to start doing it. Start with 5 minutes every day. Then move to 10. Then 15.

When I decided to learn how to code I decided that I would actually focus in two core skills: Meditation and Programming.

They are complementary, and each one of them sustains the other one.

So another invitation that I leave you is to find which are the complementary ones for you.

But anyway. Now we are talking about equanimity here, and that is the acceptance of what is.

Once you enter this process of focus and you commit to do something for a certain period of time:

You will, probably, suck at it. At least for a while.

And more than that being something "real" (that you actually suck at it), my experience tells me that this is more of an -eternal? necessary?- state of mind.

It has been 3 years since I first decided to start programming, and all of me thinks that I suck at it. I reject my relationship to the practice. I feel as if I didn't know how to do it. I feel that everything I do is a mistake.

Basically, I feel that I should be doing something else.

But the difference between that being something that makes me not do it, because I don't want to be seen as a failure, and the actual truth, that is that I do it every day (and ended up being paid for it and in a job that makes me feel valued and where they actually tell me that I add a lot of value to our company because of the skills that I tell myself I suck at) is that I actually don't really care about sucking at it.

Through the repetition of the practice, and the PRACTICAL, DISCIPLINED AND CONSISTENT focus that I had on actually developing myself on the practice, i ended up realizing that it is not about how "good" you do it.

It is about doing it. Showing up.

Letting go of the actual consequences that "doing it" had.

It is not about "learning how to do the thing": That is one of the biggest soul sucking lies of all of existence.

I have a two year old daughter, and I saw myself saying: "I need to learn how to play with her".

In that moment I realized: What?

You don't "learn how to play". You just play.

The same is true for any given skill, even on the first day since you commit to do it.

You don't learn how to write. You just write.

And at the beginning your writing will not be "good". But that polarity is the one that I'm referring to that needs to be dissolved. And that is what equanimity is.

Accepting what is, as it is.

Something being "good" or "bad" is just a mental construct that humans have developed in order to establish themselves as experts on some realms, so that they can use their knowledge to heighten their egoic relationship with themselves (and the world).

When there is a critic and that critic goes to a movie and establishes it as "bad", the only thing that that critic does is building around the upcoming people that will experience that movie a cloud of expectation, of how "they" should perceive the movie because a "person that knows more about movies than them" said that that "should" be a "bad" movie.

But what is a "bad" movie, actually?

It may be that that same movie touches a core part of your being, and that your experience watching it transforms your life.

And it may happen that you don't watch that specific ("bad") movie because that critic said that it was not worthy of your attention.

Expectations everywhere.

We are overflown by expectations of how everything should be, especially about ourselves.

And this is true especially when learning a new skill.

You have a perspective of yourself. A notion of who you are. Where you are standing in life.

Then you start doing something new.

You suck at it. You feel disappointed towards yourself for not being actually good at what you want to do.

You want to be better, in that moment.

And that can be true, even if you have been doing the thing for years and years.

Not accepting the reality of what is the biggest source of human suffering, and learning a new skill is an important trigger for learning how to deal with it.

Equanimity is the practice of accepting what is, as it is.

You show up. You do the work that you said you would do. You practice your craft for the period of time that you said you would do it.

You allow yourself to feel how it feels to go through it. Everything.

You allow yourself to experience how it feels to explore. To play. To have fun.

To suck at it.

Then you smile...

And let go.

You rest on the awareness that you did your best, and remain in the knowledge that tomorrow will be a new day for practicing whatever you said you would do.

You do this, day in and day out.

Exploring what the practice will bring. Allowing yourself to grow and evolve as you learn how to do it with more precision.

Because the notions of "good" and "bad" need to come from the inside, as a consequence of the personal relationship that YOU have with the craft that you decide to explore through your actions.

As time goes on, you will develop a sharper, faster, and more unique capacity of transforming the ideas that you have in your mind into a reality through the craft of your choice.

You will enter that precious state that we call flow.

But: If it is knitting, at first you won't know how to do anything.

Maybe then you will do a pair of socks. Then a sweater.

And then a blanket.

As you get better at doing the thing by accepting that you don’t know everything and viewing each day as a chance to get better at it—you will be able to accomplish more and with greater precision.

And developing a unique and personal style, that can only be a consequence of YOU doing the thing.

Because you, dear reader, are a unique collection of experiences. Every output of a skill you decide to practice, filtered through your unique lens, is valuable.

It doesn't matter which one it is.

Or what you end up doing.

The world is opening, and in the coming years it will reward those that have been training these two core skills.

Because once you understand that these are the fundamental training ground for anything that you want to achieve in life,

YOU BECOME UNSTOPPABLE.

Because you actually know who you are. And that no one can stop you.

Because you know that it is all about putting one step after the other one.

Doing your thing, as focused as you can be.

Letting go as much as you can of the consequences of it.

Learning how to see life as a playground, that has as its core mission the unfolding of spirit through the human experience.

And that only happens by you being who you already are.

Developing a skill is just an excuse for that process to happen.

And for you to learn how to relate to it with love.

It sucks, but I did it.

And that is, actually, everything that matters.

I rest in the awareness of that.

Being in the right place at the right time is often all you need. My path is unconventional, to say the least, but it can be emulated by anyone reading this.

To provide context, we first need to understand why you can move forward and be instrumental in building the next big product or even industry. My previous experience is not the type that would be on the resumes of my peers in the crypto industry. It spans a variety of skilled and unskilled labor, from making snow in negative 45 degrees Celsius in the Rocky Mountains to building automated rail solutions in the very isolated Pilbara region in 45 degrees Celsius heat. In 2017, I didn’t even know what HTML was (don’t laugh).

Many successful people attribute their success, at least in part, to luck. From the outside, it seems like alchemy or magic, but this perception is due to the observer not directly experiencing the inordinate amount of hardship, depression, self-doubt, rejection, hope, faith, and exuberance that this luck consists of.

Recently, while watching the Netflix documentary "Dirty Pop", it was revealing how the reality of some of the largest boy bands in the world and the image I had stored in my memory were vastly different parallel universes. Subjectivity was the barrier. While I had a prefabricated image of these bands from their later years, I would never know what existed prior and during, behind the scenes. For the members of the Backstreet Boys, their experience was just another gig. They were plucked for a job and linked up with other people they knew from their present or past. In the early days, they were chauffeured around in a bus and floated by their producer around high schools, performing for teenagers. A wild ride ensued, and they became some of the biggest names in the world but ultimately never received adequate compensation and were pawns in a giant Ponzi scheme.

But for an outsider or a professional in the early days, they likely would have balked at the idea of working 24/7 for no wage or little wage. From early footage, it was not evident they would become worldwide stars. It’s likely the boys thought very differently about this. Perhaps they had no other options, or they believed in the mission.

The fact remains that most would not have been in the right place, had the energy, or the foolishness to capitalize on the opportunity because, at that stage, the opportunity didn’t exist.

Three years later, from not knowing HTML, I had moved to a different country, learned enough about computer science to be dangerous, and lost the majority of my initial investment in crypto.

I still had a deep interest, but man, did I have some doubts. Would crypto really be the utopian savior from the world that was? BTC had lost the luster it once had with the general population, ETH was apparently on the path to move to the other most well-known consensus—Proof of Stake—but many didn’t think it would happen for several years, if at all.

I was still following a 2017 ICO-era project, stupidly thinking they would execute on their "roadmap." Part of this was to move to a hybrid consensus with Proof of Stake and Proof of Work. Long story short, and to save the technical details, I thought it would be a good idea to use the last of my capital and run "miners." I did this, absorbing the small cost to run the miners with no reward.

Being a part of this unique aspect of the crypto industry opened a few doors. Not wide open, but ajar enough to slip through the crack. It just so happened that many new projects funded in the post-ICO era were coming to a stage where they could be tested. Many of these projects were using the new PoS consensus. One problem: they needed ~100 validators to provide infrastructure for these protocols and also needed them to be "decentralized."

Many of the types of people/organizations that were capable of this were either very expensive, didn’t fit the decentralization criteria, or outright thought crypto was a scam. To acquire the needed participants, they had to be creative. Cosmos was the first of these, and Zaki Manian famously coined the term "the incentivized testnet" with their Game of Zones program. He has since been on the record stating he regretted creating it due to the mania it created over the coming years.

Here I was, with little but a small amount of experience, able to participate. Not through skill, but because there was no one else. From here, I was able to participate in many of these incentivized testnets and gain equity in some of these blockchains. While they were financially lucrative, the most valuable takeaways I got from this time were being able to access some brilliant people who became mentors and gaining experience in DevOps, business, coding, and getting to know the industry in an intimate way that allowed me to develop a unique perspective.

The moral of this part of the story is that no matter your experience, opportunities exist that even the most professional people don’t understand. In fact, it’s usually the professionals who are too ingrained with old knowledge to see the forest for the trees.

Often these days, when I find opportunities, they are hard to articulate to people as they are a collection of dissimilar dots that need context that is subjective through experience. I can usually tell almost anyone the opportunity, and they often disregard it for numerous reasons. A small example of this is Quillibrium—a very unique project that I was one of the several bootstrap nodes to start the network in October last year. I had only known about the project because I spent a bunch of time on Farcaster (a very novel decentralized social platform at the time) and knew the founder, Cassie, was one of the most intelligent people I had come across. I let my colleagues and friends know about this opportunity, and only one actually acted upon it. Not insinuating that all or these are profitable or end up anywhere, but if I would have liked one thing back in the early days, it would have been for someone to outline the traits that would make me more lucky. This is a bad way to describe it, but that’s essentially what it is—allowing yourself to have the most opportunities with the largest upside without competition.

While that seems like a falsehood to most people, I would argue there is a framework for setting yourself up for success. In short:

1. Do what others are not, for whatever reason it may be.

2. Don’t be afraid to fail. To fail is inherently wrong. It’s a step on a ladder to get to the next rung.

3. Know that only a small number of wins are achievable. But when you do, it will be from the failings and will have outsized returns, whatever they may be.

Ideally, you set yourself up to think like a venture capitalist about life. Work these days blurs the lines of personal and paid work. Create boundaries but do things you would want to do on a Saturday night (I’m literally writing this on a Saturday night). There are many opportunities that exist in the crypto space and life in general right now. While I write this the crypto market is quite bearish, Farcaster has lost its glow for a lot of people and the world seems on the verge of WW3.

Make no mistake, these are the best times to find the opportunities because the lack of competition gives you the edge that doesnt exist otherwise.

And always remember, just because someone is a "professional" doesnt mean they are right.
