It’s just too ambiguous. Everybody comes to the table with their notion and opinion of what “Web3” means. Is it a technology, an idea, a buzzword, a video game, or a culture prop? On one hand the term cradles the idealism of decentralization, on the other hand it has the feeling of a culture cult where you have to know the secret language of gm, wgmi, and own a Bored Ape to gain entry.

It’s no wonder that everyone has big opinions on “Web3”. For some, it feels like progress. For others it’s a new religion. Still others believe it’s all a scam. Progress is messy and anytime money is involved the tone can get highly charged and the field full of pundits.

For my part, I’m moving back to the basics and trying to be specific with my language and my definitions. I mean, Forget the buzzword bingo and the hype. But, Self-executing data entries? That’s some truly badass tech! Merkle trees and cryptographic decentralized data design? It’s like magic! Blockchain won’t solve everything, but it sure does capture the imagination.
